No write access to vmfs volumes

Hi people,

first my setup:

SAN storage to a DataCore SANMelody Server (HP DL380 G5)

2 2.5.4 ESX servers accessing the (VMFS 2.52) vmfs2 volumes via FC HBA (HP DL585 G2)

ESX 3i (3.5.0, 123629 (1) to access the vmfs2 volumes via iSCSI (HP DL585 G2)

In Configuration\Storage the volumes that all are listed (readonly or protected against writing).

The server SANMelody says I have read/write access to the storage.

What could be the problem? ESXi is not able to write to vmfs2?

TIA

Kelsey

  • SAN access to VMFS volume snapshot

So here's the deal.  I have a Compellent SAN can I take replays (snapshots) of the volume.  I spun this VMFS volume and tried to attach it to an ESX Server.  The problem is that ESX server does not see anything on the volume even if it is indeed a VMFS volume.  My guess - there is something on the volume as a GUID or something that the VMFS volume snapshot matches the orginial and forces him not not to be recognized.

Any thoughts on how to pull this off?  There are a couple of VMDK files on this shot I have to take out of it.

    Thank you

    Richard

Hi Richard, you are right. The host is detect it as a snapshot so it won't be installed because it would have the same UUID as a volume already mounted (you will see a message to that effect in the vmkernel journal). To work around this problem, go to advanced-> LVM-> and the value of LVM. EnableResignature = 1 and LVM. DisallowSnapshotLun = 0. And then perform a new analysis. The LUN should get mounted as a data store named "snap - 0000001 - < datastore_name >" or something similar. Be sure to change the settings advanced to LVM. EnableResignature = 0 and LVM. DisallowSnapshotLun = 1 after seeing the snapshot data store appear just to be sure. Hope that helps!

The problem was a combination of factors.  Specifically, THIN LUNS on EMC VNX with Windows 2012 R2.  It's to do with how 2012R2 TRIM questions and cancel orders MAPPING in the table.  Basically, he blows on MS and has a knock on effect on all LUNS.

The thing in our case is that we have a chassis package HP blades, for the most part running ESX, Windows R2 2012... and we essentially had a single physical machine 2012R2 out the table in its entirety...

Defrag on 2012R2 exasperated this issue and was a way to find the number of logic (light IO) massive unit on the Page file for example, LUN during the defragmentation operation

  • Discs of ESXi supports local (UFS) as a Volume/vmfs/volumes - didn't want not!

    Hi all

    Updated from 5.5U2 to 6.0

A race of NAS VM using two disks using RDM (virtual) to get direct access to disks and smart State - created with the flag - z.

After the upgrade to 6.0, ESXi now mounted (s?) drive - which are SoftRAID(4) 1 and have a file system UFS - to/vmfs/volumes/sink. This happened only after the second start, but now there is no way back for me.

After the first reboot after upgrade, I was able to assign the disks to a virtual computer and restart it. On the next reboot, the problem above has occurred.

Perhaps interesting to note that the volume is not mounted as a VMFS storage (at least it seems), but directly in the folder/vmfs volumes - and it is not a symbolic link like usual data warehouses.

    Tried Altready:

/ recreate the files with vmkfstools RDM

Unmount the volume/vmfs/volumes/disassemble sink via esxcli file storage system (using all the u/n/p options, but ESXi said he "can not find the nas drive", which is not really sense)

There is a thread on serverfault (not mine) with the same problem and similar details.

VMware - 6.0 ESXi RDM mounting as local volume - Super user

For the moment, I went down to 5.5u2 to access the virtual machine to work.

    Any help is appreciated.

  • Access to VMFS existing via iSCSI storage

    Hi all

In a test environment, I'm trying to access a VMFS existing via iSCSI data store.

In the storage adapters, I clicked on Rescan. The SCSI target is displayed correctly. However, it is not in the storage, even after clicking on refresh.

If I click on add storage and select disk/LUN, I can see the storage device, clicking on watch then the primary Partition as VMFS. Of course if I click Next again this reformatted it as a new data store, something I don't want to do.

How can I get this existing VMFS volume is displayed in the storage?

    Hello

A client of ours wondered if we can run our Labview executable and runtime on their computer without having no write access to the installation directory?

    Grateful for any comments.

As far as I know the terms of access rights for the updates are the same for the basic facilities.

However, given that your program is running on a factory floor, I recommend disabling updates. I don't think you want to come down because a computer does not have an assembly line update.

It will appear a lot of files-
Click on the WoW program file instead of the pitcher-
    will start your wow game-
    Log in as normal-
then he will come to the top to update...

After the update your wow will work as usual!

    1. How is - that Mount you the drive on the computer?

2 Di you use any third-party tool to mount the drive?

I suggest that you remove the external drive using the disk management and check back later if you can change the permissions on the drive.

If you change the permissions, make changes to the permissions on the drive and then mount the drive.

  • Budget write access

    Hello

I had a request that some users need a write access to budget not on actual expenses (they should read only access real who already have). Is there anyway to give that.

    Thanks in advance

Hello. Yes, on each of the scenarios, there is a class of security called attribute. Assign different classes to the true and budget scenarios, with users with read access to the attributed to real class and all (Edit) access to the class assigned to budget.

  • Write access is necessary GL_TRACK_DELTA_BALANCES?

Hello, I'm under FDM/ERPi version 11.1.2.2 extracting data from Oracle R12.  Our Oracle R12 GL_TRACK_DELTA_BALANCES table has only read permissions.  The data seem to shoot and charge in FDM very well, but I wonder if this will create a long-term problem.  Can someone comment on why we should change to write permissions?  Thank you much for the help!

Write access is required to allow EBS GL keep track of shipments of additional data that have been performed by ERPI. This allows only the differences between the last load for a period and a new charge for a period to be charged, rather than load the full set of data each time. If you plan to use incremental data loads then write access would be necessary.

  • After integrated error of VMFS volumes

    Hello

I have a 5.5 installed on Dell PowerEdge T110 2 ESXi which worked well. I decided to migrate to 6.0, but in case of a problem, I made a clone of my records. During the clone, I had a built-in long and the UPS has been unable to support, and now I cannot start the system and cannot be updated.

If I try to boot ESXi 5.5 I got an error:

    Error loading misc_dri.v00

If I start the update with the ISO burned, I got:

The selected disk has a VMFS volume, which can not be scanned. It may be damaged or disconnected. Please select another disk or fix the problem.

So I thought I'd start with 5.5 ESXi ISO to fix the system, but I got this error:

The system has found a problem on your machine and cannot continue.

Cannot load multiboot module: invalid parameter.

I also tried to burn 2 times each ISO for you ensure that they are not broken but doesn't change anything.

I don't see anything on the forum to help me, maybe I missed something?

Also, I've migrated front of 5.1 to 5.5 and worked well. If I restore the 5.1 system, do I loss my VMs?

    Thanks for help

I would try a new installation of a key to 16 GB + USB or SD card, first of all and then try to add the data store. Follow this KB: VMware KB: installing ESXi 5.x on a USB flash drive or SD flash card support looks like your least partner/OEM support (DELL) storage controller, and you need the drivers for it.

If the data store is mounted with this temporary system first of all, I would like to make a backup of all your virtual machines, otherwise you can try to fix it.
