To access the servers non - VMFS volumes ESX (i)

Suppose I have a FC LUN with a VMFS volume.  It is not accessed by a host ESX (i).  However, there are old VMDK on the logic unit number I want to recover.  If the LUN is delivered to a physical Linux server, and this physical server is zoned / correctly mapped to the FC LUNS, can I access the VMFS LUNS for the vmdk off of it?

Thank you

Yes.

  • A procedure to follow to change the block of VMFS Volume size?

We use a VMFS volume with size of 1 MB blocks.  As the virtual HD size must be greater than 256 GB, to change the size of the block to 2 MB.

We would like to confirm that the following is correct:

    (1) to migrate all VM this VMFS volume

    (2) delete this VMFS of ESX Cluster

    Add 3) as storage again

    4) format with the 2 MB block size

    Is it Miss?

    Thank you

There is not another possible procedure

But as already shown reflect the selection of block size.

  • To access the servers in the DMZ

    People:

I have a PIX 515E and I need to access a SQL Server that is inside the network... I don't know if I should activate NAT on the demilitarized zone to be able to 'see' the servers inside...

    I tried a

    > static (dmz, inside) 192.168.2.0 192.168.2.0 netmask 255.255.255.0

to activate servers on the DMZ for access within the network without translation... but I can't create a static to a low security to a high security interface...

I wonder if anyone has the same configuration problem?

should I try to activate NAT on the DMZ also?

    It's my current setup!

    Thank you very much!

Did you apply an access list to allow traffic from the dmz to the inside interface?

Also, try to be specific with the server you are trying to provide access to the.

static (inside, dmz) xx.xx.xx.xx xx.xx.xx.xx 255.255.255.255 netmask (where two groups of xx.xx.xx.xx represent your address of sql server)

Then add the following list of access

access-list 101 permit tcp any host xx.xx.xx.xx eq sql (again, xx.xx.xx.xx is sql server)

Access-group 101 in the dmz interface

(test you can do initially access list permit all traffic instead of just sql, then tighten it to the top when you are sure that the static command works)

Hope that helps. Allowing less than an interface on a security interface traffic higher security is carried out with controls static and ACL (or ducts), so you seem to be on the right track.

  • A procedure to remove a VMFS Volume?

    Hello

We use EMC CLARiiON CX4 SAN

We have created 5 VMFS volume and am migrated VMs.

We will remove the VMFS-3 volume.  We would like to ask for your opinion if the next step is correct?

    (1) remove the Volume VMFS VI client

    (2) remove the VI Client VMFS Volume

    (3) delete the storage group logical unit number in EMC Enterprise Manager

    (4) destroy the LUNS in EMC Enterprise Manager.

    Thank you

  • No write access to vmfs volumes

    Hi people,

    first my setup:

SAN storage to a DataCore SANMelody Server (HP DL380 G5)

2 2.5.4 ESX servers accessing the (VMFS 2.52) vmfs2 volumes via FC HBA (HP DL585 G2)

    ESX 3i (3.5.0, 123629 (1) to access the vmfs2 volumes via iSCSI (HP DL585 G2)

In Configuration\Storage the volumes that all are listed (readonly or protected against writing).

The server SANMelody says I have read/write access to the storage.

What could be the problem? ESXi is not able to write to vmfs2?

    TIA

  • VMware 5.5 Upgrade breaks access the VMFS data store (kind of)

Now, before I get off, I will say that I am sure that the host I'm doing this on IS NOT on the HCL.

(why I'm running old hardware?-c' is a community organization that I volunteer for which relies on hardware dontated)

    However, please read on.

Updated an IBM x 3500 and a x 3650 (same generation - they are basically Tower and rack mount versions of the same kit) to esxi 5.1 to 5.5.

(Exactly the same problem on both)

Local storage - IBM Serveraid (aacraid)

I was a bit confused as the controllers of disk and LUN show always also visible (just no VMFS didn't recognize any time how I rescan).

(normally the LUNS do not appear due to a driver does not)

I found that I was able to get future LUNS by practice

    'Add a storage '.

    "Disk/LUN.

(30-60 seconds then shows the LUNS)

    1.png

It shows the drive bays, I click Next and select "mount disc and keep the signature '...

    2.png

The lun then comes fine and everything works.

However rebooting it gets lost again and I have to repeat the process to get the VMFS volumes to come back.

Someone at - it useful ideas?

    Thank you!

Either you have to will the volumes - or clean all paths dead in your esx.conf

  • Can access virtual servers, but not the server host after vpn

When on the network, I can access the host server and all other virtual servers (virtualized with virtualbox). But when I connect with VPN I have no access to the main server, but I have access to any of the host servers - and I can get access to the main server of one of the host servers.

    Where do I start looking?

using of 5505 and asa version 8.4 is (2).

The nat setup is like this:

3 (inside) (outside) static source any any static destination NETWORK_OBJ_10.10.10.0_28 NETWORK_OBJ_10.10.10.0_28 non-proxy-arp-search to itinerary

    translate_hits = 0, untranslate_hits = 0

4 (inside) (outside) static source any any static destination NETWORK_OBJ_192.168.1.128_27 NETWORK_OBJ_192.168.1.128_27 non-proxy-arp-search to itinerary

    translate_hits = 0, untranslate_hits = 0

    5 (inside) (outside) static source NETWORK_OBJ_192.168.1.0_24 NETWORK_OBJ_192.168.1.0_24 NETWORK_OBJ_192.168.254.0_28 NETWORK_OBJ_192.168.254.0_28 non-proxy-arp-search of route static destination

    translate_hits = 37, untranslate_hits = 63771

6 (on the outside) to dynamic interface of the NET-VPNPOOL source (outdoor)

    translate_hits = 0, untranslate_hits = 0

On the host, I see that you have 2 default gateways configured. It can have 1 default gateway, and to the other interface, you must configure static routes for specific access.

The interface that needs to connect to the Internet should have the configured default gateway. The traffic that pass through the interface of the SAA should also go in and out the same set of interface, IE: If the host server connects to the interface via dmz out to the external interface, the return traffic must also go through this path, apart from the interface and return to the dmz interface.

  • My newly created vmfs volume is the only version 3.46?

Hello, just trying to understand what is happening.  I just created a new VMFS volume on my 5.0 (build 914586) and when I look at the version in vCenter it says that his version 3.46?  When I look to the top of versioning it states my new volume should be 5.54. None of these hosts have been upgraded on the spot they are all fresh versions of ESXi 5.0 914586.  How can I create a volume and ensure his 5.54 early?

    Thank you

    Don

When you create a data store, you can create a VMFS5 or VFS3 data store. Can you confirm that vmfs5 is selected in the wizard?

  • Should the hosts to access the same VMFS * always * be grouped?

    Hi all

As stated above, given a config where there are several ESX / I host & multiple VMFS volumes, you should set up clusters, then present the storage shared for clusters, etc.

However, I see a config for the moment where there are a number of 'independent' hosts (managed by the same VCenter) that are * not * in a cluster, but each host is running VMs to the same shared storage.

Is this a reasonable config? It is not me! I'm looking into why they have not grouped (they have business licenses), but I wanted to check if it is an acceptable (i.e. supported) config because it seems a little strange to me!

(If I could be pointed toward a document covering so it would be ideal to support my argument).

    Kind regards

    Paul

    Hi Paul,.

You are right, there is no such requirement as incase of Windows Cluster.

    Concerning

  • Clone the virtual machine between two ESX 3.5.0 servers (low connection)

    Hi all!

I have two ESX 3.5.0 servers that are managed by a vCenter servers one have just the connection of 32 KB.

I need to clone one of my virtual machines from one to the other ESX is W2k8 created with 40 GB HARD drive. I tried to start it clone trough my low connection, but the task is about 86% for 4 days :|

Is it possible to clone virtualmachine on one of my ESX for its local storage and after that, get it by vCenter for example an external HARD drive and then copy them all to my second ESX? How to run copied virtual machine on my second ESX? Maybe I can do it with another way - ideas?

Two ESX are the same versions and machines, only the names and the ip addresses are different.

    Thanks for the tips

    Kris

I don't think it is possible since the virtual disk will be 40 GB in size - I was suggesting using a laptop as a server NFS ESX sees and access the virtual machine for this storage clone - it take the first vessel of ESX host it to secondary site attach NFS datastore on the second ESX Server and using the browser of data store you navigate to the cloned VMX of VM file and to him the second ESX host - you can cold migrate leaving the second host and then move the cursor above for the storage you want.

  • SAN access to VMFS volume snapshot

So here's the deal.  I have a Compellent SAN can I take replays (snapshots) of the volume.  I spun this VMFS volume and tried to attach it to an ESX Server.  The problem is that ESX server does not see anything on the volume even if it is indeed a VMFS volume.  My guess - there is something on the volume as a GUID or something that the VMFS volume snapshot matches the orginial and forces him not not to be recognized.

Any thoughts on how to pull this off?  There are a couple of VMDK files on this shot I have to take out of it.

    Thank you

    Richard

Hi Richard, you are right. The host is detect it as a snapshot so it won't be installed because it would have the same UUID as a volume already mounted (you will see a message to that effect in the vmkernel journal). To work around this problem, go to advanced-> LVM-> and the value of LVM. EnableResignature = 1 and LVM. DisallowSnapshotLun = 0. And then perform a new analysis. The LUN should get mounted as a data store named "snap - 0000001 - < datastore_name >" or something similar. Be sure to change the settings advanced to LVM. EnableResignature = 0 and LVM. DisallowSnapshotLun = 1 after seeing the snapshot data store appear just to be sure. Hope that helps!

Please, help me by awarding points for a 'useful' or 'proper' response if you think it is useful!

    Hello

    1. don't you make changes to the computer until the problem occurred?

2 when was the last time it was working fine?

I suggest you try the steps below and check if it helps

Method 1: Try to run fix it from the link below:

System icons do not appear in the notification area in Windows Vista or Windows 7, you must restart the computer

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/945011

Method 2: Try the following steps to add the volume icon in the taskbar

    i. right click on the Start button and then click Properties.

    II. click the Notification area.

III. put a check mark on the volume icon.

IV. click apply & OK. Check if you see the volume icon in the taskbar.

Method 3: If the problem persists, try the steps from the link below http://windows7themes.net/volume-icon-missing-in-windows-7-restore-it.html

  • Lack of access to the balance of audio volume control

The balance function is 'available', but now hidden in Windows 7. Is it possible to use a script or macro to quickly access the balance control? W7 the access sequence for me is 1) Windows task bar (click to view)--> Start (button)--> Control Panel (list)--> material & audio (hyperlink)--> system (hyperlink) change sounds--> reading (tab)--> helmet (icon)--> properties (button)--> levels (tab)--> Balance (button)--> press '1' (scroll bar) and the key '2' (scroll bar)!

A previous post, "can not balance sound in Windows 7", addressed to this situation with a label that showed more frustration a question. The response was useless for recommended action reduces the string above: click right volume (icon)--> (list) of sounds--> reading (tab)--> helmet (icon)--> properties (button)--> levels (tab)--> Balance (button)--> press '1' (scroll bar) and the key '2' (scroll bar)!

My comments are: 1) I could not designed access more complicated if I had a degree in software development. 2) what's up with "Key 1" and "key 2"? People have a left ear and right ear. (3) I read that more than 10% of the American population live with hearing loss. The loss is not symmetrical. A balance of ready-access control is an important element.

Please consider to improve this feature.

    Hello
