NULL.sys fails to start, error code 24

Windows Vista on Sony Vaio laptop

Device driver
No Plug-and-Play drivers
Null value

Order status (available Start button, but does nothing)
Check the solutions give 'could not load driver software.

Already changed all the "Away Mode" disabled power settings.

Any thoughts on getting this driver fixed or working again?

Had this error as a result of some kind of malware.

I managed to remove it and fix the other errors and changes, he did. This one I left speechless.

After many hours of research, the only solution seemed to be re - install the entire operating system. So, I decided to try and simply replace the null.sys file in the drivers folder. I thought that if it made the system unusable, without loss, I had to reinstall anyway.

I couldn't delete the old file, but I managed to rename it. I then copied the null.sys of my vista cd, rebooted, and it all works perfectly now.

I hope this helps others in the future.

    Hi gbislay,

I think that you are able to get on the desktop after changes have been restored.

Step 1: Auditor of file system (CFS) scan to fix all of the corrupted system files. To do this, follow the steps mentioned in the link below

How to use the System File Checker tool to fix the system files missing or corrupted on Windows Vista or Windows 7

Step 2: Download and run the system update tool. This tool runs an ad hoc analysis of inconsistencies that might prevent future maintenance operations.

Step 3: Clean boot the computer

Important: n ' forget not to put the computer to follow normal start-up step 7 in the link.

Step 4: Disconnect all external devices (printers, scanner, USB (universal serial bus) readers, etc...) Except the mouse and keyboard and then try to install the updates.

    Hello

System update readiness tool will take some time, so I suggest you wait a while until the process is completed.

You can find newspapers by accessing this folder.

    c:\Windows\logs\cbs\checksur.log

I would suggest trying the following steps and check.

    Method 1:

Note: Important this section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you proceed with caution. For added protection, back up the registry before you edit it. Then you can restore the registry if a problem occurs.

Back up the registry - http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Back-up-the-registry

Methods 1 and 2 require changes in the registry to do. Make sure that you back up the registry before you proceed.

I would have you look at the article-

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/971058

    Method 2-

Note: The Chkdsk command will try to fix bad sectors on the hard drive. All the data on these areas could be lost in the process. It is also possible for the computer to enter in a start State no.

    Proceed at your own risk.

  • Vista: The device can not start (error Code 10) for a USB CDC device which works fine in XP

I have a USB device 2.0 DCC which works very well under all of our Windows XP machines, but not based on Vista.  The device uses the usbser.sys driver and emulation of the virtual Comm Port.

The text of the listing shows the same information on Xp and Vista, except under vista it shows no open pipes.  Shows Device Manager: device can not start (error Code 10).

Using Vista I can't connect to the vista of CDC through concentrators or device to any other device wireless hub except for a Dlink Wireless hub, which has a layer of software between the CDC device and the PC.  With Xp, it all works very well on more than one PC, with Vista, there are questions.  I use the INF manufacturer provided for Vista, still no results.

    http://www.Microsoft.com/en-US/Download/details.aspx?ID=9622 and run it standalone.

However, when I try this, Windows Update Standalone install displays the message"this update does apply to your system."

I can live with that (if the message is actually true). But if if this patch does not apply to my system, then why Windows Update keep trying to install it as an update 'important '? How can I get off the list so that the Windows Update log is not cluttered with all of the failed attempts?   Finally, I ran Windows Update Fixit tool available.  He fixed a couple of things (default location, another minor config) but not this problem.

P.S. running BitDefender 2012 if it matters...

To answer my own question, you can reset the status of the following method KB2509997 8 download and rename the folder C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution. It would be nice if there was a less force brute to do this, because she loses all your update story and settings, but at least it works.
