    * original title - how do I know which programs to take off the windows Installer CleanUp list? I don't want to uninstall or remove a program that I always use currently__ *.

Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility
http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/290301 (MS Office only - replaced by the 'Fix It' utility)
(Note: the Windows CleanUp utility has been replaced by the "Fit It":http://support.microsoft.com/fixit/ )

    The Windows Installer Cleanup utility:
It was created to correct software installations that failed during the installation process and leaving a bunch of files (including a file name that ends with an extension .msi (= MicroSoft Installer .msi). For example an installation failed MS Office (note I said "failed").
    See: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/help/HA011185721033.aspx

Also if when you installed MS Office you decided at the time you had no need of Power Point and chose not to install it. You find out later you need to make a Power Point presentation, insert the Office CD and try installing PowerPoint and it causes an error.

The tool using Windows Installer Cleanup will remove damaged installation files (located in C:\Windows\Installer). You then install Office and Power Point, once more, as they are not more present in the list of programs in the Add/Remove Control Panel. But at least this time Office and Power Point will install without errors as the Windows Installer Cleanup utility did what it was designed to do.

The unfortunate side effect of the cleanup tool is when you select and delete software that works correctly you then will no longer be able to install this software because it is no longer in the Add/Remove Programs list.

Now as to why there is so many files in the C:\Windows\Installer:
You will find lots of them. MSI files belong to software such as Java, Microsoft .NET Framework software AV, Norton Ghost, file downloaded during a Windows Update session and so on. It would seem that some software will clean up after itself and deletions, this is the file that were in the folder C:\Windows\Installer. Windows Update failure will create and leave the folders and files behind every time that you try to install the update and so you could end up with a large number of files taking up disk space.

It could also be a lot of files (is most needed) orphans.
If you still have the original Windows Installer Cleanup utility, and then by using the msizap (msizap g!) command removes all cached Windows Installer data files that have been orphaned.

  • Windows Installer CleanUp utility has messed my windows?

I ran an installer which provides a plug-in, PluginA, for the program "ArcMap.exe. Later, I tried to remove this program, but it did not work. The problem seems to be a bug in the plugin installer.

I browsed the Internet and found the "Windows Installer CleanUp Utility 7.2" tool which I installed it.

I ran this utility and managed to remove the plug-in.

However I noticed that when I started Outlook, it had to be configured each time :-(.

    So I uninstalled the utility.

Then, I installed a plug-in for the program "ArcMap.exe", PluginB. This program installation, I know to be bug free.

However when I run ArcMap.exe it displays "Please wait while Windows configures PluginB" and this process never ends.

I tried to uninstall PluginB and it works, but I need to have installed PluginB.

Also, I always have the problem with the installer of windows running everytime I open Outlook.

It seems to me that "Windows Installer CleanUp Utility 7.2" screwed up my installation of Windows.

How can I fix it? Unfortunately I was not wise enough to have any system restore points useful.

    Thanks in advance for answers!

Microsoft had removed and abandoned the Windows Installer Cleanup utility several years ago.

    Click Start
Type: CMD, according to the results, right-click CMD
    Click on "Run as Administrator"
At the command prompt, type: sfc/scannow

This will check for any breach of integrity

    Restart your system

  • Windows Installer Cleanup Utility cannot run because corrupt Microsoft installation Service

I can't get the Microsoft Installer Cleanup utility to run, I get an error message "the Microsoft Installer could not access the Service."  I tried re-registration of the service nothing is done.  I work on a customer's computer and can not get KB2467173 or Windows Live Essentials update, so I am unable to run internet explore in the standard 32-bit functionality.

I would avoid reinstalling Windows if possible.

Note: Windows Installer Cleanup utility is no longer supported and is not available via a Microsoft page.

Comment: If your client is in the habit of running "Registry cleaners", a clean installation of Windows will be your only recourse.

  • How can I fix problems created with Windows Installer Cleanup?

I had some problems installing a software on my Windows XP and had to run the software Windows Installer Cleanup before the program installs. I was stupid and didn't choose carefully what programs should perform the Windows Installer Cleanup. So now my automatic updates for my XP will not be installed.

Here is the message I get when trying to install the automatic updates:

    Initializing installation... done!
Install the update of security Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Service Pack 2 for Windows 2000, Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP (KB974417) (update 1 of 1)...

    Here is the result:

Some updates not can be installed.
The following updates have not can be installed:
A security update Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Service Pack 2 for Windows 2000, Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP (KB974417)

This is the only notification I receive the updates failed. I think it's because the link to the installer of windows has been removed by the software Windows Installer Cleanup.

How can I correct this situation?

    Kind regards

    Red Cloud

    Red Cloud,
If you look at the history of the update, which is the error code for the update failed?  Go through the steps of KB923100 and post back with the results.

  • Problem with the Windows Installer Cleanup utility

I'm having a problem installing of a particular program, and told me to run the Windows Installer Cleanup utility.

I downloaded msicuu2.exe and when I ran, got a Windows Script Host window:

    Script: C:\Users\AppData\Local\Temp\IXP000. TMP\StartMsi.vbs
    Online: 17
    Char: 1
    Error: Permission denied
    Code: 800A 0046
    Source: Microsoft VBScript runtime error

What that tells me, and what I (think I) do?

    Hi Ernest,

Try to run the Windows Installer Cleanup utility as administrator and check if that helps.

    To run as administrator

    1. right click on the .exe file

    2. Select run as administrator

Check if it works fine without any error message.

    Hope this information is useful.

  • Unable to run the Windows Installer Cleanup utility

My problem is that I can't run the Windows Install Cleanup Utility (WICU). I'm wanting to run what I install iTunes. I get an error that I don't have permissions to change the text. I can't uninstall the program as well because of this permissions error. I am the administrator and the only user of my laptop.

I also received the error that the program is not associated with file associations. Honestly I don't know what to do.

    Thanks for the reply.

In fact, I had already tried all the things and suggestions you gave. I tried to fix this by myself before writing in the community ;) Today I thought it will be the last time I'm trying to fix my laptop so I took your answer and followed step by step. Hello

Important The Windows Installer Cleanup (MSICUU2.exe) utility that was previously referred to as in this article has been abandoned. Although the Windows Installer Cleanup utility solved a few problems installing, it sometimes damaged other components that have been installed on the computer. For this reason, the tool has been removed from the Microsoft Download Center. program install and uninstall problem solving

  • Problems with iTunes re-Setup - "there is a problem with this Windows Installer package"

I tried to re - install iTunes with the latest version because I had received an "error 7" message instead of iTunes. You had covered the steps to uninstall and reinstall iTunes by removing iTunes, Quicktime, and other applications on my computer. I had uninstalled iTunes and Quicktime, but when I tried to uninstall the Apple software update, I get the following error message:

"There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your supplier of staff or the package of support ".

How am I supposed to fix my problem with iTunes, so I can download music if I couldn't uninstall programs I need to uninstall? Can I try reinstalling iTunes at the moment? Please let me know what I can or can't do.

Specific file names are mentioned in the error messages?

Here is the standard advice for dealing with problems of installation of iTunes.  Because you are having trouble to uninstall one or more of these applications, you must use Windows Installer Cleanup mentioned below or Free Revo Uninstaller to uninstall applications difficult.

Caution: Cleanup utility Windows Uninstaller has been removed from Microsoft download servers because sometimes it seems more removed he was supposed to (I believe this was linked to Office uninstall).  You can still get Windows Installer Cleanup here--> http://majorgeeks.com/Windows_Installer_CleanUp_Utility_d4459.html utility if you use it, you must create a restore point from the system first (or back up the registry with C:\WINDOWS\ERUNT).  An image full disc would be safer if you have this ability.

If these steps do not help, ask for help in the Apple forum: https://discussions.apple.com/community/itunes/itunes_for_windows?view=discussions&tagSet=1234#/

Have you tried completely removing all software related to iTunes and files, allowing you to perform a "clean installation" of iTunes? It comes to my technique proposed, taken from the article in Support of Apple HT1926.

Go to control panel > Add/Remove programs
    Remove these applications:
    1 Apple Software Update
    2. Apple Mobile Device Support
    3 Hello
4 iPod for Windows (this may or may not exist, be it, it is not necessary, then we can remove it)
    5 iTunes
    6 QuickTime

Open my computer > C: > Program Files
    Delete this files (if present)
    1 iPod
    2 iTunes
    3 QuickTime

    Empty your temp directory:
Open my computer > C: > Documents & Settings > username > Local Settings and delete the contents of the folder called "Temp".

If you don't see the local settings, enable hidden files:
Tools > Folder Options > view tab
Select Show Hidden Files & folder, and then click OK

Once this file is empty, restart the computer

Download & install the Windows Installer Cleanup utility:
    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/290301/
Launch the utility: start > programs > Windows Installer Clean Up
Select one of the applications mentioned above and click on remove

    Restart the computer
Download & reinstall iTunes from here: http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/

  • Utility Windows Install CleanUp

I have recently installed Windows Installer CleanUp Utility.  I read that the warnings on the MS download page on some applications have to be reinstalled.  Elsewhere on the download page of this application is marketed as aclean tool that removes just wandering or oprphaned install files install form incomplete or broken.  I would like to clean up and remove any unnecessary or corrupted files to try to get my computer to recover his speed, but when I open this utility and it scans all installed applications, and returns the list, he warns that some or all applications will need to be reinstalled.  Is - this utility not clean up stray or incomplete installation files without affecting the application installed with Windows Installer?  I don't really have the resources for many applications to reinstall them, if there is a high risk of corrupting applications until point duty reinstall maybe I should just remove the Windows Installer CleanUp utility and forget the orphans to install files that may be present...

    Any advice?

I don't think that the Windows Installer CleanUp utility is the right tool for you.  It is intended to clean up after installation (or uninstallation) installation failure error messages or interferes with the installation of other programs.   It completely removes a program, requiring you to reinstall in order to use the program.

Revo Uninstaller may be able to do what you want.

Just have the unnecessary files on the disc won't slow down your computer, unless it is critical to running out of disk space.  Find out what programs run automatically at startup and disable or remove those that are not necessary. Boulder computer Maven
