Numbering on the right of a paragraph

I need to add automated in InDesign CS4, similar to an AutoNumber, character, but it's a character point rather than a number. This special character must be on the right side of the paragraph rather than at the beginning of the paragraph. An example would be:

Section.

The period would be the automatic character.

It's something that FrameMaker can do, but is it possible in InDesign?

(cross-posted on the InDesign forum)

In addition to making the entirely justified text, it is not that you can do

in this topic...

Another possible suggestion would be to make the anchor text numbers

frames, positioned where you want.

• The Bookmark Script list align Page numbers on the right

Hello

I have a script that lists the names of bookmark, and then the Page number after the bookmark as follows:

Bill Smith #1

Jeffrey Jones Page #5

Christopher James Page #8

What I would like the script to achieve is to list the bookmarks and then align Page numbers to the right of the pdf instead of mixed together.

Please can someone tell if it is possible to do it in javascript?

The existing code is as follows:

/ * All bookmarks in the list * /.
/ * Work recursive l‟arbre bookmark * /.
function PrintBookmarks (bm, nLevel)
{
If (nLevel! = 0) {/ / do not print the root}
bmReport.absIndent = bmTab *(nLevel-1);
BM. Execute();
bmReport.writeText ("" + bm.name + "Page"+ (bm.doc.pageNum + 1) ");

}
If (bm.children! = null)
for (var i = 0; i < bm.children.length; i ++)
PrintBookmarks (bm.children [i], nLevel + 1);
}
bmTab = 20;
bmReport = new Report();
bmReport.size = 2;
bmReport.writeText (this.title);
bmReport.writeText("");
bmReport.size = 1.5;
bmReport.writeText ("list bookmarks");
bmReport.writeText("");
bmReport.size = 1;
PrintBookmarks (this.bookmarkRoot, 0);
global.bmRep = bmReport; do global
global.wrtDoc = app.setInterval)
"Try {'} '.
+' reportDoc = global.bmRep.open ("list bookmarks"); "
"+' console.println ("open Executed");"
+ "app.clearInterval (global.wrtDoc);"
+' delete global.wrtDoc;'
"+' console.println ("App.clearInterval Executed");"
+ "reportDoc.info.title = 'Bookmarks lists';"
+ "reportDoc.info.Author ="Bookmark Sequence list";"
{+'} catch (e) {console.println ("Meanwhile...:" + e) ";}"}
(100);

Any help will be much appreciated

The purpose of the report is seriously flawed. Beside the known bug page break in version 9 there are many other issues, such as the issue of alignment.

The best solution I found that it was to place the page numbers on a new line then align them with dash and raise.

• replaces the numbers in the names

Hello world

I'm doing a spreadsheet where I can easily update an entire table without going through the entire table (which is long).

This is the case, I'm a student living in a big house (24 students) and I have to manage the cleaning program. It often happens that someone leaves the House before the end of the schedule, so I can change it easily (so I don't change 1 name that fills the main table).

I did an example with ministries (representing the number of room), in which people 'work' (live) and they have to do a task on a particular date. I want that the left table to be updated automatically when I change a name in the right table top, preferably without expression if-long. I tried with the 'Replace' function (applied to A2 - A8), but miss me something, because the name in the fourth column of the table background is 1: "Sterling", but I want it to be 7: "Malory.

Basically, what I want is the left table is filled in names automatically according to the numbers in the right table.

Any help would be much appreciated

Hi Sam,

Is that what you mean?

The formula in B2, copied to the right and down, is:

= VLOOKUP(Table 1::B2,LUT::$A:$B,2,FALSE)

• Right-aligned numbers in lists numbered in the paragraph styles

Is it possible (in InDesign 5.5) to create a numbered list in a paragraph style that makes the numbers right aligned, in order to align a two-digit number to the right, the space between the number and the text being equal whether a number of one or two digits? I can do it manually with two tabs, but the bullets & dialogue of numbering in paragraph Options of Style only allows for the position of a tab. It would be useful to be able to automate this type of numbering.

• Once again on alignment to the right reference numbers with GREP

For some jobs, I want the reference numbers in the notes align with the period that I have Options of IDCS4 reference Add (with an en space) as the separator between the number of note and the note text. Not much so I set the paragraph style reference with a tab 'Match point' and then insert this tab at the beginning of the note. I recently stumbled on this thread of 2009 where RodneyA that describes more in detail, and Eugene Tyson added a GREP search to automate the addition of tab: replace (~ F) with \t$1.

I can't get this to work in IDCS4. It worked in earlier versions? Earlier this year, Jongware explained that GREP can not replace a reference marker, only to watch in front of or behind the marker to replace anything. Unfortunately, in my notes nothing before the marker reference of GREP replace until I manually put my tab there. Addition of these tabs to hundreds of notes by hand is not if bad (jumping with Ctrl + arrow keys) and ID's of the propensity to consume a way occasionally note, I need to check all the same. But I was mistaken in thinking that if I want to automate the addition of tabs I you do this via JSX?

Thank you

David

David, indicating when that you can't get something working, I must also tell you why

But when I tried your "replace (~ F) with \t$1 ' for me it became real obvious right away: the code ~ F is not only 'the footnote reference number' but also the note itself in the text. So, it all works in the sense that you get a tab before the code of reference number, you get loads of additional tabs in your text as a bonus.

There are several ways around this. The most obvious is to limit the operation replace all paragraphs in style with your reference style. If it is a single (mine is usually), it will work immediately. It is the first response of Eugene in the previous thread - possiblly you forgot to put this paragraph in the field Format style find.

Another way is to add a tab only when the code of reference number is the beginning of a line:

^ ~ F

replace it with

\t$0

(You're right noticing the trick 'postanalyse' cannot be reversed for an advanced search for just "opening of the line followed by the code of reference numbers". "It's the special flavor of an InDesign GREP Limitation).

This may fail if you have a note at the beginning of a paragraph

Still another way is to try to make use of the vertical position of the code reference number. If your references are superscript (which is fairly regularly) and the numbers in the notes themselves are not (that they may or may not be), you can search

~ F (+ position: normal)

and replace with himself more a tab before, as shown above. (A variation would be to use a style of character for referrals by exposing and seek [none] style to pick up those inside notes characters.)

What are the lighted numbers on top right of sk2023 k3yboard for?

Hello again redhue,

Thanks for the quick response!

In addition to the three lights, you see above your numeric keypad (on the left side up to now), there are all the lights on your keyboard? Is it possible to take a photo hence are these lights and publish them? Otherwise, the lights should indicate specific locks:

1. The NumLock
2. The cover lock
3. Stop scroll

Essentially, these lights indicate if you lock one of these three options.

I hope this helps!

• How to get page numbers in toc shift to the right

Hello

I'm working on a table of contents and try to get the (3, 4, 5, 7) page numbers against the level 1 and level 2] headers to the right. I don't know how to proceed. I would appreciate your help.

Lee is the screenshot:

toc.PNG

Thank you

You should have a tab between the number of para and text entry, as well as between the text and the page number, but do not display your text symbols (Type > show hidden characters) so I can't see them. Assuming they are there and the two paras TOC use header level 1 and level 2 header by styles (just uncertain of the page, but if I have a para tag names wrong, just replace the good):

1. Click on the first line of the table of contents.
2. Type > tabs.
3. Set a left tab align the left edge of the text entry and a tab right-align by a point of the leader of the page number. (To add: select the type of tab in the tab at the top on the left, then click on above the rule.) You can drag them left/right to move. A selected tab is highlighted in blue or orange, and you can add the point of leading to a selected tab.)
4. With the cursor on the first line, right-click on the name of the style and redefine the style so that the other 1-level headers are updated.
5. On the second line, drag the left triangle below to indent the line (the upper triangle comes along for the ride). Adds a tab on the left for text entry and a right tab by a point behind the leader for the number of page, under step 3 above.
6. Level 3 header and Style to redefine a right click.
7. Fact!

• How to change the page numbers after adding & save page numbers in the pdf document - need to change the existing page printed on the upper right in the header numbers

How to change the page numbers after you add and save the page numbers in the pdf document - need to change the existing page printed on the upper right in the header numbers.

These page numbers were initially created using Acrobat PDF header and footer.

I have a 750 page pdf document that I've created.

I have to sometimes the pages up and down after that I added the page numbers in the document by using the Header_Footer tool on the right column of tools.

But after you save the document, if I get a few pages around, I can't go back and change the page numbers.

I thought that the page numbers, as indicated in the header and footer must have changed automatically, but I guess that once its print, that it cannot be edited - is that, as what is?

So I guess we should always first get a copy without numbers of pages before confirming the documents and the creation of an index.

A way to remove these page numbers already there and add new page numbers.

Its a lot of work to align 750 court documents and then realize that you must move some and then realize the page numbers cannot be changed and thus begin to do this all over again to compile which can take about 10 hours.

My question is quite simple, but I hope that overall, I got my point. Sorry if I made it is too complex.

If no simple way, want to know if anyone has another different tool or a few recommendations to better highlight what I'm doing wrong.

Thank you for your review and response.

You should be able to update with tools - Pages - header & foot-

• Grep which finds quotes and review for those on the right, but only after the numbers...

Hello

I'm trying to find all the quotes that follow the numbers and turn them into quotes.

I'll try to put this in a GREP style eventually, but in the meantime, I examined it with find and change.

Here's what I did... but it does not work.

To find it - I have a positive look behind to find a digit, then pasted into the curly quote

• Problem with creating numbered lists the paragraph style...

I have a numbered list, using "bullets and numbers" paragraph style But I don't know how to get the numbering to work properly.

If I set the "mode" to "continue from previous" mode, whenever I use this paragraph style continuous numbering since the last issue of the previous list using this style.

If I put the 'mode' for ' start in ' a number, say '1', then all numbers in the list are this number.

I want that each list is independent of the final list. The only thing I can understand is to create a new paragraph for each list style, but which does not seem a good way to go.

I have been exploring for some time but have not been able to understand this.

Place the cursor inside your paragraph of the list where you want than to restart numbering.

Choose from the menu:

Type > bulleted & numbered lists > restart page numbering.
