On Windows 7... I had a "Recent favorite places" icon on my desktop. How can I get rid of him?

I've been running Windows 7 for about a week, but today I had a "Recent favorite places" icon on my desktop and I can't remove it.
When I right click on it I get "open, clear recent items and create a shortcut ' no deletion.

I do not want the recent items on the start menu. It's on my desk.

If I can't find a way to get rid of it, I'm going back to XP
