Open a new tab does not work

Yesterday the + tab opens a new tab when you click it. Today, it doesn't. New tab file does not work either. I use OS X El Capitan. I really want to use FireFox as my browser - it's much faster than Chrome. But I'm not going to open a new window every time I want to start something new.

Continue the behavior mode without failure of Firefox? https://support.Mozilla.org/en-us/KB/troubleshoot-Firefox-issues-using-safe-mode

If Yes, then we can rule out assorted settings, Extensions and themes. Next step is probably malware analyses, but I don't know what scanners are good for Mac OS.

If not, then it is time to start weeding the themes and Extensions 1 by 1 until the culprit is found.

Try Firefox Safe mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe mode is a troubleshooting mode that disables certain parameters, disables most Add-ons (extensions and themes).

If Firefox is open, you can restart Firefox Safe mode in the Help menu:

    • In Firefox 29,0 and above, click on the menu button

      click Help

then select restart with disabled modules.

    • In previous versions of Firefox, click on the Firefox button in the upper left of the Firefox window and click help (or click on help in the Menu bar, if you do not have a Firefox button) and click on restart with disabled modules.

If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Mode safe mode as follows:

    • On Windows: Hold down the SHIFT key when you open the desktop Firefox or shortcut in the start menu.
    • On Mac: Hold the option key during the startup of Firefox.
    • On Linux: Exit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox-safe-mode
(you may need to specify the installation path of Firefox for example/usr/lib/firefox)

When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "start mode safe."

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to understand that one. Please follow the section Troubleshooting extensions, themes and problems of hardware acceleration to resolve common Firefox problems to find the cause.

To exit safe mode of Firefox, simply close Firefox and wait a few seconds before you open Firefox for normal use again.

  • new tab (+) does not work after the upgrade to v 23.0.1 forefox

I had firfox version 22 I guess... Now, today morning I upgraded to v 23. It displays a message from one of the plug-in is not compatible with wud and therefore be disabled. now later I still once downloaded the plug in to check if its works or not but TI worked (as I had already guessed), or its display in modules or plug-ins.

Now I don't get why the new tab does not work. Not at all. Its so very annoying. I googled the question and tried to reset firefox and the new tab in subject parameter: config. But nothing helped.

I think that its because of this plug-in I've read somewhere that the parameters can be getting replaced by one of the defective Add-ons.

    Help, please.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Firefox/tools > Modules > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is the cause of the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Firefox/tools > Modules > appearance).

    • Do NOT click on the reset button on the startup window Mode without failure.

You can use the SearchReset extension to reset preferences to default values.

Note that the SearchReset extension runs only once and then uninstalls automatically, so it will not appear on the page "> Firefox Add-ons" (topic: addons).

If you do not keep the changes after a reboot or have problems with preferences, see:

  • The new tab (+) does not work, or the file/new tab feature

The new tab (+) does not work. The function of the file/new tab does no more work. Both had worked correctly until noon today. I haven't added any software, plug-ins or extensions today, I do not have the Ask toolbar. I tried several of the suggestions made on this site, nothing helps.

This problem may be caused by an extension that does not work in the current version of Firefox.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/tools > Modules > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is the cause of the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/tools > Modules > appearance).

    • Do not click on the reset button on the start safe mode window or make changes.
  • New tab does not work - could not open a new tab

I can not open a new tab, using OSX 10.9.4 and 31.0 Firefox. I tried the '+' and the key combination. Thank you-

Many users have discovered that this problem (in Firefox 30 and more) is caused by led modules, for example a plugin Conduit and/or an extension "Community Toolbar.

You can check and disable the extensions on page modules. Either:

    • Command + shift + a
    • "3-bar" menu button (or tools) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Extensions. Then, when in doubt, turn off.

Often, a link will appear above at least an extension disabled to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links in the last step.

What helps with the button "+"? If so, you can name the specific extension that caused the problem?

You can also see the Plugins page modules. You can never use 'activate' to disable plugins that you do not usually use.

  • My 'new tab' button, the ctrl + T and go to file, new tab does not work

When I click to open a new tab, it does not open. If I do ctrl + T, it will not open a new tab. If I go to folder and select the new tab, it will not open a new tab. The only way it will open a new tab is if I click with the right button on a link somewhere on the page and click New tab. It's weird.

And while I'm at it, I went to download firefox 4.o it came with an error page so I can't download firefox again...

This problem may be caused by the Ask.com toolbar (Tools > Modules > Extensions)

Start Firefox in Firefox to solve the issues in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions of the origin of the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Modules > appearance/themes).

  • The button new tab does not work, niether is the 'new tab' in the file menu

When I click on the new tab button nothing happens. It also will not open a new tab when I click on 'new tab' in the file menu. I have windows 7

  • 'Open the link in a new tab' does not work. I tried with all disabled add-ons and it still does not work.

When I right-click a link and select 'open in a new tab' and 'opens in a new window', nothing happens. In addition, nothing happens when I type a query in the search bar and press ENTER. I tried to restart firefox in safe mode and disabling all add-ons, but the problems continue.

The setting in "tools > Options > tabs: open new windows in a new tab instead" is for links that specify a target window (for example, target = _blank) to open the link.
This option allows to divert these links into a new tab instead of a new window.
Links that do not specify a target always open in the current tab, unless you redefine that with a middle-click or Ctrl (Mac: Cmd) left click (new tab) or a left click UPDATE (new window) or via the context menu.

You can check if you have the XML files including Google's default search engine in the browser\searchplugins file in the Firefox program folder.

If this isn't the case, then you need to reinstall Firefox.

Try to delete the file search.json and possible search - metadata.json and search.sqlite files in the profile folder of Firefox to reset the default search engines.
You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder currently in use:

Firefox will rebuild the file search.json from the default search engines in the folder "browser\searchplugins" in the Firefox program folder and the searchplugins folder in the Firefox profile folder.

  • ion will open a new window does not work

Firefox 3.6.3, Windows Vista 64-bit. When I 'open in a new window', it is not the case, but apparently another instance of Firefox opens in the background. After closing Firefox, if I open the ask Manager, I see another instance running I have to kill before I can restart Firefox. I also noticed that my help to download the video no longer appears in the navigation bar, or on the Tools menu, even if he says he did when I look at the options Add on. Not sure if this is related. I completely deleted Firefox and installed Firefox 3.6.3 and the problem remains.

  • For some unaparent reason for opening a new tab does not open my google homepage. OK for years

Now on Firefox 28.0. I had an update for Divx and installed. Following this new tabs have been directly at search.conduit. I uninstalled it but now when I open new tabs I get a blank page and have to manually directly to my home page. Previously, a new tab automatically open as my homepage (Google). From Firefox puts me the correct home page. How can I make sure that each new tab opens on my homepage?

Your settings may have changed when you installed DivX. You can set the new tab page to something different from what follows:

    • Go to about: config
    • Click on I'll be careful, I promise!
    • Search for browser.newtab.url
    • Double click on the string, delete Subject: newtab and enter whatever you want (www.google.com)
    • Close Firefox and reopen.
  • the + button or 'open a new tab' does not match. I also tried with Ctrl + T, but I can not open a new tab, except if I click on a link in the tab existed. What can I do?

I saw nothing relevant in the options

The Ask toolbar is originally only in versions of Firefox 3.6.13 +. Uninstall this extension.

There are a few places to check for the Ask toolbar:

  • Creative cloud office 'Apps' tab does not work

I bought the license to CC a couple of days, but since installing I couldn't install/manage applications. Office CC 'Applications' tab will not open correctly only saying "download error".

I got the CC on this computer in the past by another employer, but I uninstalled it when the project took end. I never encountered this problem with the CC of this time. I also got CS5 on this computer all the time and in the past with CS5 and CC has not caused any problems.

I have now uninstalled and reinstalled this new CC a couple of times but the 'Apps' tab does not always work.

I then also uninstall the CS5 and to be sure, I removed manually all the Adobe stuff like this guide: Re: how to remove and cancel the creation could f...

After that, I reinstalled the CC but always the 'Apps' tab does not work. May be there is always something left (on this computer) the subscription of Creative previous cloud (another license) that is causing the problem with this new CC subscription?

I have a Mac Book Pro with Mac OS X 10.9.5

If you have uninstalled but did not follow upwards with the help of the vacuum of CS then you have probably some remains that could interfere with other facilities.  If you uninstall, then use the cleaning tool, you may have better luck.

    Adobe Creative Suite cleanup tool

helps resolve installation for CS3 thru CS6 and creative cloud problems

    http://www.Adobe.com/support/contact/cscleanertool.html

In addition, it should have been without having to uninstall the original CC that you had with another employer.  You must only have signed out of it, and then you could connect you with another subscription thereafter.

  • I upgraded to latest version firefox 29,0 in windows machine 7. All the user interface looks very good. Undo close tab does not work for me. Is that not been addressed?

You can do this via CTRL + SHIFT + T as well.

You can try to start Firefox in Mode safe to see if Firefox works correctly without error? You can start Firefox in Mode safe below:

    • Windows/Mac: choose Help > restart with disabled modules
    • Linux: run firefox-safe-mode in the Terminal/Konsole

If Firefox opens fine with no problems, it is probably one of your extensions that is causing the problem. You can reactivate your modules one by one until you find the one that is causing the problem to be re-activated.
