  AVG, McAfee, MSE, Norton and several other anti-malware programs turn off WD in Win Vista to avoid potential conflicts.  If you are trying to activate WD, you will receive an error message.

  Perhaps WD has been disabled by your resident antimalware program.

  What does say on the "crash dump"? Usually some information (or code) is shown on the screen when the system displays the blue screen of death. Details of the accident must also be stored in the observer of events (logs Windows-> system section) or reliability monitor.

  It is possible that the problem is hardware related - your hard drive may be damaged (check it's SMART status using this program for example), your computer may be overheating (check the temperature by using this program for example), etc. Check your RAM to find errors as mentioned here.

  It's normal. Windows Defender is disabled or in XP uninstalled when you install Microsoft Security Essentials because MSE includes the Windows Defender antispyware feature. If you use XP and Windows Defender is still listed in Add/Remove programs you must uninstall/remove it.

  If you use Norton, AVG, Avira, Microsoft Security Essentials, McAfee, etc. the default action is for Windows Defender must be disabled, that these AntiVirus programs have their own Antispyware Applications.

  There is nothing to worry.

  Using both programs at the same time can cause system conflicts, etc.
