Open/Save dialog differences

I'm curious to know why the open/save dialog boxes vary depending on the application being used. Some will show only these last places, office, library, computer and network, while others seem identical to Windows Explorer.

It is the responsibility of the developer to implement? Microsoft made recommendations or provisions that allow developers to implement properly and it is simply ignored?
I'm trying to help Mac users like me to assimilate to the Windows environment and this kind of inconsistency is odd, so any help is appreciated.
I am hoping for a definitive response from a Microsoft engineer and not conjecture.
Thank you
Colin

It isn't really right to Microsoft recommend a dialogue option

Microsoft provides several patterns of dialog files (some are also highly customizable) and developers choose their own
Also the developers must stick to them and can write their own subprogramme for file dialog boxes
I hope this answer helps you snack miss Microsoft engineers this thread

  • Open/Save dialog box as in Windows 7 appear not

    Hello

I have an intermittent problem with Windows 7.  I tend to keep the programs up and running for weeks, because every day instead of shutting down the computer, I put on standby.  The problem is, after a few weeks to go in and out of sleep, the open/save as box stops in programs which were broadcast during weeks of dialogue.  Here is an example:

I open word, excel, firefox, January 1.  I opened random documents by clicking through Explorer or just browse the web.  But I never completely close all programs.  I could open up doc1, doc2, doc3, doc1 close, open doc4, narrow doc2, etc..  All programs stay in memory.  After a few weeks, said Jan 28, if I select file-> open, the dialog box is not pop up.  I can open via the documents Explorer, but no file-> open.  Also, I can't make a file-> save as.  I can do-> file save (saves the document), but nothing that causes the dialog box.  It is reproducible in word, excel, firefox, or any other program, I leave the door open for several weeks.

Here's the weird second problem.  Say I got word, excel, and firefox open for weeks.  If I exit excel completely, and then restart, the dialog box continues to work in excel.  But it remains broken in word and firefox.

Everyone race in this issue?  Somehow I can fix this without having to restart the program?  The main reason, it's a problem for me is because I do not often know that this problem occurred.  Hopefully, I'll open a spreadsheet from a web page and start editing.  I try to do a save as, only to find the pop dialog box - up will not appear and I can't save the work I do.  Or I have a word document open for weeks.  I usually just hit the Save button, but this time I want to save it under a different name.  I can't do it while this problem is here and I have to close microsoft word completely to get the box to start working again.

    Thanks for your help!

    Hello

The key is that every so often, you have to restart things, windows programs, the computer itself, in order clearly to all the memory, unload all managers, the .dll files - indeed clear the cobwebs from the computer. If you do not, you can continue to run into the problem you describe.

For my part, even if I do not turn off my computer, I restart from time to time to get a fresh start, for me, that means being able to have all the features with drag-and-drop processes; for you, this is the Save as dialogue box.

    Nothing else to do.

    Kind regards

  • Open/Save dialogs doesn't work does not correctly.

Environment: CS6 (PS 13.0.1) Mac OS X 10.7.5. A lot of material. (Usually starting with. CR2 RAW.)

    Two problems open/save

Recently (perhaps since the 13.0.1 update?), I have had problems with it open and save as dialog boxes.

First of all. The dialog box open the file by default always to activate: white (i.e. any type of active file). Whenever I go at the bottom of the drop-down list, then select "Documents readable by all the" before I can open ANY type of file. I searched in everyway I can think about looking for a method to have OPEN by default to "all readable" but can't find anyway to do. Does anyone have a suggestion? I admit that it is a nuisance more than anything, but when autour whisk to stop every time and make this change due date is irritating. No other program has this problem (including Illustrator and InDesign). PS5.5 does not show this problem on the same machine.

In the second place. When I save under and try to select any file format, for example going from psd to TIFF, the drop-down list format ALWAYS selects the format above whom I choose. Example: If I choose JPEG, PS tries to save as .iff. If I pull the selection down to JPEG2000 it will then save standard JPEG. Yet once just an irritating but, tiff (which I need for several other programs) is the last on the list so there is no way I can go one below for the tiff format. It always comes out in png. Also note that the selection of the Format shows the correct format - in the case of tiff, the dialog box displays TIFF selected, but the program is apending .png. (Continuing save it as (without altering my selection) always leads to the wrong shape no matter what the dialog box said Format in the Save as operation.) Yet once, no other program that I work with (including several Adobe products) exhibits this behavior.

Seriously, I need to be able to save as a tiff. Anyone with any ideas on that?

    Thank you very much

    Robert

    Look at help-> system information.

If you see the Adobe plug-ins in the list not required, you have made a mistake.

If you set the optional plugins preference folder to point to an earlier version of Photoshop: you made a mistake.

Somewhere you duplicated formats of files, most likely from a previous version of Photoshop.

You must get rid of these files duplicate and all the plugins Adobe formats you copied by mistake from a previous version.

Reinstall will not change your preferences, or plugins that you copied by mistake.

It would be only to reinstall bits which are provided with CS6 - which are not a problem.

  • Action needed to open save dialog box and STOP it. Help!

So, here is the background information, in which case it is useful to know why I'm looking for this option - I'm in pulling photos off the coast of an internal database of the company. I can't access these pictures as normal files - I have to go to our Web site, enter an employee number and do a right-click, copy. Therefore, all options related to the editing commands, if they even help otherwise, come out for that first step

In the meantime, I created an action that opens a new doc and resizes the photo in the pasta. Assigned as the shortcut F5. Then, to save my dexterity (: P) I also reassigned the shortcut 'open save for web and devices' to f6.

However, it is such a massive project, and coming from a lack of time, what I really want to take the measures which I have created even more cutting of this second stage (open save w / f6).

I googled and I'm apparently not phrasing the question right, no matter how hard I try.

HOW in the world, if possible, add a step to my action which simply OPENS the save for web and devices dialog box? I know how to open and save, but not anymore. I need to open and everything STOPS here, so that I can simply hit enter and enter the desired file name.

Is this possible? I will love you forever if you can tell me what and how to do it! BTW, I'm on Photoshop CS4.

For your F6 save action files, save it to a file saving (it's okay what or where at the moment)

Now in the actions palette, click on the box to the right where your backup is action. A dialog box appears saying "this will toggle the State of all the dialogues in this action...". "Click ok beacause we want to cede control of the backup user. Now, when you run your backup action dialogue will appear and you can save the file where and as you want.

    I hope this helps.

  • Open / Save the truncation of the dialog box items and miniature

When I use the open/save dialog box in Adobe applications in Mac OSX Yosemite, the image of the file and information intersect on the right instead of the fitting of the column. This can be solved by clicking on the column separator and choose the size of the column, but if I choose a different file, it regresses back. Is there a fix?

Use the display of the list. It is a bug.

Select a file, and then press the SPACEBAR to preview. Work within the dialog box.

    So I added that.

  • Click on a .pdf link does not open the .pdf file, it opens a SAVE DIALOG box

Recently, when I click on a link to .pdf file I'm not able to open the file in an adobe reader or a FIREFOX Web page or open it using the full program from adobe. Instead, it opens a dialog box SAVE asking me to save it on my hard drive. I don't know what happened, and I'm trying to find someone who might know what is happening?

I had the same problem, but I got by the following methods:

Go to Firefox > Options > Applications > Portable Document Format (PDF)

And for the Portable Document Format (PDF) set the State as "use Adobe Acrobat (in Firefox).

    Fact

Now the PDF opens in the Firefox browser without having to download the file to open.

  • How to get the "Date Modified" column in the open/save file dialogs in El Capitan

I recently updated to El Capitan and noticed that the dialog boxes open or save include the column "Date added" only when you are using the list view. I used to have the column 'Date Modified' in Yosemite that was quite handy when viewing files in descending order based on the last modification. I would like to have this presentation in the file open/save El Capitan dialogs, but could not find a way to configure it. No one knows how to do?

    Thank you

Right-click (Ctrl-click) in the column heading and you should get a pop-up menu with the options.

  • Dialog OPEN/SAVE not appearing does not in ALL programs.

Open and save diagouge boxes do not appear in all programs, although o know their, brcause when I try to click on the program, it is not anythingm to do more when I press the program escape to become accessible, please somone help

Try this. This practice on a window you can see open a file opens
dialog box. Press Alt + space. To move, then press M. and move the mouse. This
should align the window with the mouse. If this is not the case, use the arrow keys.

If M does not try S for size and see if you can resize the window.

It is a little curious that all part programs that. Office programs use their
Own to open dialogues not the system. Some programs to specify the location
of the dialog box. Well try the above.

  • Win 7 64 bit - 3rd third party apps won't open Windows dialogs (save money, save, open, import, etc.)

I'm running Windows 7 pro 64-bit. I have Office 2010 installed and a host of 3rd party applications. The problem is that all my 3rd party apps are impossible to open a dialog box or the child window.

For example, if I use Open Office and am writing or Calc and go to save a document by clicking file > save, the Open Office window will quickly blink a couple of times and nothing will happen. No dialog box opens. Therefore, I'm unable to save the file. Keyboard shortcuts don't work either for this purpose. However, if I change the options in the preferences of Open Office to use dialog boxes Open native Office, then everything works fine.

The only problem with this approach is that very few applications have this option. All native applications of MS just excellent work. It's only a 3rd party app problem. So, what I get out of this is that there is probably a registry problem where applications are trying to make a call, but the key is no longer there or corrupted in some way. I'm trying not to reinstall Windows 7 because I don't want to go through the pain to reinstall all applications.

Things I've tried so far: uninstall antivirus, repair Windows, disable all controls user account, disable firewall, compatibility running administrator mode, mode reinstall application, latest updates of windows, video drivers, safe mode and updated firmware mobo. No dice. I do not have a restore point to before time, I started to notice the problem. I'm not sure that I have installed, uninstalled or removed which may have caused the issue.

This problem is killing me. Any help is appreciated.

    Hello face down.

There are a few things you can try to see if it helps.

One, run SFC/scannow to see if you have files corrupted in Windows 7 system.
    Click Start
Type: CMD, according to the results, right-click CMD
    Click on "Run as Administrator"
At the command prompt, type: sfc/scannow

This will check for any violation of the integrity and repair any damaged operating system files.

    Reboot your system.

Then, try and see if you are still not able to open Windows dialog boxes. If this isn't the case, then I think your next option would be to do a upgrade in Place who fixes Windows 7.
However, you will need to have the Windows 7 DVD.

The upgrade in place is a tool to fix the system. Thanks to the special upgrade process, we will be able to repair the system. The upgrade in place will not affect the settings like photos, movies, documents, etc. that are saved on the computer. Although this operation will not remove or modify the files and installed programs, I suggest always that you back up important files before you do. In addition, you may need to reinstall the device drivers after this operation.

The detailed steps are included as below:

    On-site upgrade
    ====================
1 log on to the system first.
    2. Insert the Windows 7 DVD in the DVD drive of the computer.
    3. Click Start and select computer.
    4. find the "setup.exe" file in the DVD-ROM and double-click it.

    5. click on install now.

    6. When you are prompted to enter the product key, please click Next directly without entering any key. The installation wizard will prompt and ask if you confirm to install Windows 7 without the key and choose please confirm.

    7. When you get to the screen ' which type of installation you want', click upgrade to upgrade the Windows 7 system files.

Note: When running the upgrade on the spot, the system will restart automatically (several times) to merge the files and programs, please leave the computer alone and does not configure it until the 'upgrade on the spot"finished. The system should start Windows 7, once it is upgraded. Once the computer is running "upgrade on the spot", you can go and leave the computer and it completes automatically.

Please answer back with an update and let us know if it helps.

    Marilyn

  • Adobe PDF opens the dialog box "Save as" when you simply save an existing file

Any time I hit "Ctrl + S", or go to "File - save" when you are working on an existing file, it opens the dialog window "save under. And that is not enough, the window "save under" is this new version which adds an extra step (because he wants to know if I also want to save the file in the cloud) and makes me also navigate the current folder and when I hit save it also opens another dialog asking me if I really want to replace the current file... How heavy one set of steps just to save a file that you opened to make a little change - we do not save money, just save.

Please, can someone fix this? I think he was born in the current version, the last, so it could probably be a bug (the 'Save' option is set by mistake the method "save under") or a poor handlebars by developers.

Adobe staff has tried to help me, asking me to "Run as Administrator". This does not solve the problem, and my post has since been ignored...

Any help would be apprciated. Thank you

Re: Why Adobe PDF opens the dialog box "Save as" when you simply save a file

  • Why Adobe PDF opens the dialog "save under" when you simply save a file

When I make changes to a file and close (or just press 'Ctrl + S'), rather than overwrite the current file with the one Adobe PDF, newly edited now opens the dialog "save under" and I have to navigate to the folder that I need. Why does it replaces the file, as it used to? This behavior can be fixed?

Re: the various save dialog box, try this: go to the menu, then Preferences, then click the general tab, on the left. On the right, uncheck the radio button 'Show online storage in check'. Press OK in the Preferences dialog box, and then try to save again. Now, the platform save dialog box must be indicated directly.

For the other issue you reported (Save as are save under), you can tell us:

1 do you have permissions to modify the file. On OS X, if the file is locked or is the file "belong" to another user?

    2. can you choose the same file that you opened when you are prompted to save and are able to replace that?
