Oracle DBA study material

I am preparing for certification Oracle DBA so wanted to find out what equipment is right for reference.

I checked the Documentation but it seems complete database Oracle and I'm confused what order should I follow to get the Documentation.

I know oracle databases SQL and LSPQ and now wanted to do an Oracle Certified Professional. I have the syllabus for OCP, but is it enough to be an expert like you.

I saw many Post of oracle in this recreational but after reading your posts, I'm really confused if I am following correct path.

You're experts so wanted to be an expert like you.

Please guide me a good way.

Thanks in advance.

You are not an expert just by reading a few books. You must have a hands on experience too.

Man learns by experience.

Go to Oracle University courses as your will be learning database to Oracle University.

    Thank you.

First of all, I suggest refer you to the Oracle Certification page and he surfed a bit-> http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=39
There, you will find enough information on exams

If you want to get a material for the preparation of the review, just give a little research using the name test in this forum, or simply scroll down and surf between subjects. You'll find lots of information here

  • Oracle DBA will never offer 2nd chance for certification tests?

Oracle DBA will never offer 2nd chance for certification tests?

This time Oracle Sun java offers a 2nd chance for testing certification.

So if you miss the 1st try, you get another free trial.

    Thank you Roger

Think about that provide you a URL so that people can read the fine print.  Also certification of high-end Java identifythe which he made, and does not apply.

Like any seller Oracle can offer carrots if she feels she will lead directly or indirectly, profits increased.  My guess is that they probably won't this offer on DBA tests... remember the historical lineage of exams have been through Sun Java...

  • All files generated by a coil in sqlplus receive ownership of oracle: dba instead of the user of the BONE started sqlplus and run the script. There's a file with users owners of BONES of the coil.

All files generated by a coil in sqlplus receive ownership of oracle: dba instead of the user of the BONE started sqlplus and run the script. There's a file with users owners of BONES of the coil.

Script launched in until OS user 'A' on the 'A' server which launches sqlplus, then connects to a remote database through a service of tnsnames.ora as another user of the database and the results of this script are spoulées on the server "A".

The file queued on the old server is written with rw-rw-r: read write user, group read the writing, reading and possession header that is the user of the OS. The file queued on the new server is written to rw-r-r user: reading writing, reading group, public reading and ownership oracle: dba.

"" The user then has no privileges to modify the file and continue the process of transmitting the file, editing and deleting the file for the next set of commands. This allows us to keep the possibility to migrate to the new server we are unable to process orders.

    $ORACLE_HOME/bin/sqlplus - s user/password@prd1 @./script/CustomScript/R12_OM_UFPC-oracle.sql

Background: old server running 4.8, Oracle 10.2.0.4 OEL

New server running OEL 6.5, Oracle 11.2.0.4

    Tested so far:

File and update umask to 0002 instead of 0022 is now generated as rw-r-r. However, the property is still oracle: dba.

Update of ownershipt of $ORACLE_HOME/bin/oracle.exe of oracle: oracle (edi added the user to the oracle group) and chmod 6751 oracle.exe. This created several problems where crucial scripts, that is to say of sqlplus failed to run.

Added! chmod 755 output.file.name - OS user 'A' is not allowed to change to mod.

Added! command cp MV output file and that generated the file as a user of the operating system: oracle. It is a potential work around in case of emergency, but the developer would have to rewrite the countless scripts.

    Any ideas?

I have reproduced the behavior of the old server and am able to spool a file via sqlplus under OS user. No changes have been made on the remote database server. All the changes have been on the new server hosting a small 11.2.0.4 database on a server running OEL 6.5 32 - bit OS.

    (1) removed the sticky bit $ORACLE_HOME/bin/sqlplus using chmod u-s, g-s, o - s suggestion of Billy ~ Verreynne

    (2) modified the main group for the 'oracle' user match the user operating system applications, while maintaining membership in the groups 'oracle' and 'dba '.

-We are dealing with here EDI processes, so the Group was called edi.

    (3) modified property of the files tnsnames.ora and listener.ora for oracle: edi

    (4) restart the receiver

    (5) disconnect / reconnect

Script runs as expected, the output file contains the correct ownership and permissions.

Thank you all for taking a look and offering options.

  • Language/tool I can use to develop some Applications Oracle DBA

    Hello

I want to develop a GUI application. This application will help in the tasks of Oracle DBA. I want this app to interact with the operating system (LINUX), database (11g) can use JDeveloper to develop this application if not what application/tool/language I can use for this?

    MSM

You can of course use JDev for this task. Like you are a little vague on what it is, that we can say to help your application does.

JDev features of pl/sql and java development, but also of modern UI technologies.

  • Which is better foreign language must learn an Oracle DBA?

    Hello

I intend to learn a foreign language (for example: Chinese, Japanese, french, Spanish, German etc,) this year. I am an Oracle DBA. Looking for some suggestions on the language in which I should choose.

    Thank you
    Delphine

If the goal is to make it potentially easier to communicate with colleagues, whose native language is not English, I'd think Hindi or Mandarin would be the choice (even if you'd probably high enough to clear before your Hindi bar was better than English your colleague). If the goal is potentially do it yourself employable in other countries, as others have suggested, it would be important to look at which countries you are interested in - Spanish, French or German are likely to be relatively common in different parts of the world.

  • Being a new Oracle DBA

    Dear friends,

Have a big question in my mind.

I work nearly 6 months as a DBA and especially the my tasks involve using a certain application/tool that interacts with Oracle.

It has everything necessary for the development of applications using Oracle. As the creation of tables, objects and so on.

So to use pl sql, I need to use the api is available in this tool. I can't access or touch any table without these APIs.

It seems that I'm investing and will invest more of my time in learning the architecture and methods of this tool.

Is he running around where I use this custom stuff? I could not use Oracle directly, it would be bad for me? The application has Backup, migration, and many other facilities, but I do not use it.

I wonder if its healthy for me in my career as an Oracle DBA training.

    Please advice.

    Thanks in advance.

    Nith

Well, something using something to your work is something else and tests/playing/making/breaking things on your own playground are something else. I don't know what else I can suggest except say that if I would have had been in your place, I would be attempted to replicate everything in my house on my home boxes and torn it hand piece by piece, forgetting what made the automatic application of the work place and how?

  • Oracle DBA courses

    Hello

This is not a technical question.

I wonder if anyone knows a good Oracle DBA course for 6 months or a year. A course of good value that anyone can afford and not just a company.

    Thank you.

Is the course you should probably attend

    http://education.Oracle.com/pls/web_prod-PLQ-dad/db_pages.getCourseDesc?DC=D50102GC20&p_org_id=51&lang=E

The above link gives you a good description of the content and goal of the course.

Your site Web of Oracle University in Spain is

    http://education.Oracle.com/pls/web_prod-PLQ-dad/db_pages.GetPage?page_id=3&p_org_id=51&lang=E

Check it out for occasional free webinars and other free content apart from the responsible course there.

Prices are a bit expensive, it's true. But you hardly find the same quality and reliability elsewhere. Apart from that, you have to follow an Oracle University course as a requirement for the OCP review you can reach later.

    Kind regards
    Uwe Hesse

  • The daily tasks such as production Oracle DBA & developer DBA

    Hi all DBA,.

I'm curious to know what you do every day as production Oracle DBA or developer DBA. More than a year ago, I became a DBA and before that, I was PL/SQL Developer. I navigate in the Administrator's guide and, now, in the middle of the Oracle database concepts. Then I intend to read backup and restore. As my day job: I check the backup log file. Check db objects and make sure that all are valid and check free space on each tablespace and adding data files if necessary. Also monitor top sqls session or above through OEM and tried tune sqls top of the page. Meet the demands of users, such 'kill a suspended session' and synchronize the data of a table between databases and refresh QA production db app. sometimes the air in the alerts log too if we have problems. Some people suggested TKPROF each file in short why trace the trace file generated. Don't you think that it is really beneficial? What should I do to improve the skills and abilities as an Oracle DBA. Really appreciate your ideas.

  • Some doubts about Oracle DBA...

    Respected, professionals

I am new to Oracle RAC DBA. Knew just CARS and have some doubts, associated with Oracle RAC databases and a few other s/n basic questions.

    (1) client connected to one of the rac node in the database of node three cars by scan listener. The node to which it is connected was dead. My question is - is that its connection automatically goes to the next available node

without using TAF? Or he needs to connect again? I have to configure TAF as in 10g RAC? or the configuration of TAF to perform a SCAN is completely misconceptual?

    (2) a database connection request will be going to one of the node system of three-node rac (shooting technology in return for load balancing). How can I connect remotely to PuTTY tru particular node?

Do I need to enter particular node (virtual host as IP) TNS in tnsnames.ora in my system oracle client?

    (3) we have a listener to scan with three IP for RAC 3-node addresses. If you add a new node, I need to create another listener with a single IP address scan? or do I need to add another IP existing scan listener? What should I do to connect again with existing scan listener node?

My sincere apologies over the three questions are completely misleading or false.

    (4) incremental 11 g rman are speed, compared with 10 g rman. WHY?

    (5) how connect us using sqlplus. (No high level architectural decoration). I mean what happens when connect us to the database using SQL * more (SQLPLUS scott/tiger)?

My sincere apologies if any inconvenience caused... I know this isn't a chat BOX... Please forgive me If my way of questioning is insulting and rude.

    Thank you

    Hello

If there is no TAF not configured you will have to reconnect.

TAF can be configured on the side client (tnsnames.ora) or side (srvctl) server.

    (2) a database connection request will be going to one of the node system of three-node rac (shooting technology in return for load balancing). How can I connect remotely to PuTTY tru particular node?

Do I need to enter particular node (virtual host as IP) TNS in tnsnames.ora in my system oracle client?

You can connect to one of the nodes via PuTTY using the public IP node.

To connect to a particular instance through SQLPLU, then you must specify the IP node-vip in tnsnames.ora.

    (3) we have a listener to scan with three IP for RAC 3-node addresses. If you add a new node, I need to create another listener with a single IP address scan? or do I need to add another IP existing scan listener? What should I do to connect again with existing scan listener node?

You don't need to create another auditor SCAN.

For your new node, you must assign the listener SCAN and LOCAL_LISTENER REMOTE_LISTENER must be defined on node-VIP.

  • Oracle Dba automation Scripts scenarios

Please share some scenarios DBA oracle automation, so I can develop the Pearl script or shell of my update of knowledge / I also suggest for my environment, if Automation is concern for management of performance, then it will be very beneficial for me.

    Thank you
    Nathalie

NO Nathalie, which isn't true. what they're saying is quite true... you can automate things dbconsole so... they are many ready to use of measures in there, simply configure the associated email parameter according to your set needs and you get e-mail alerts in your Inbox. Alerts generated are often faster than a script to demand in the crontab.

But the script shell scripts is kind of fun... I would suggest that you start with the shell script (provided that you have the time) and the transition to the dbconsole configuration.

  • Oracle DBA jobs

    Hi all

Please don't mind my question if I violated the purpose of the forum and if yes, then I am truly sorry.

I work since nearly 3.4 years in Oracle Database Administration. I mainly worked on Dev-Test platforms where we keep no interruption of service. I don't have the hands on the CARS or a lot of knowledge. I worked on 10g, 11g.
I know that the concepts and methods of implementation of data keep (Eve), I worked on RMAN (duplication and incremental backup, complete/incomplete recovery), expdp/impdp and exp/imp, small amount of (SQL/Shell), database server management scripts (for the most part have exp on Linux), Installation of RDBMS/ASM, Databases(manually/DBCA), Security(privs, roles, auditing), Tablespace and other management staff of logical structure , HOT backup, cold backup (and restore from it), database upgradation, patch (PSU, a one-off, attach/detach from stocks), tracing, SQL Loader, ensure monitoring and creation, database monitoring and maintenance, segment management and defragmentation, maintenance of database object, Configuration of OEM etc., manipulation of the different types of Oracle, including critical errors errors like 600,7445 etc... Read and extract the AWR/ASH...

Can I get a job outside of my current company? As I don't see a lot of growth there. Not even happen to have exposure to other platforms... Most businesses want personal CARS.

Please suggest and help me (if possible)... I am really in tension on what will be there in my future because here I will never get to work on the CARS and the architecture of high availability...
This is the reason why now I think spend my business for better technological growth...
Should what I know in this phase of my career. pls suggest... I am from INDIA

    -Looks
    DBA struggling

If you get another job is a completely local issue. Ask a local recruiter how the job market is for the DBA. In my region (the United States), it seems that there are a decent amount of demand for the DBAs, but you could work in a local economy that is stagnant.

Chances are, in 2013, that any new DBA job will involve some element of redundancy of data.

In a few years, I suspect that most of the places will be CARS or Exadata systems for their critical databases. It will probably be a major breakdown before most companies will spend the money for clustered systems, but eventually, they will be included like that. Same Oracle Database Machine is a RAC configuration if you think about it - and that's what they're trying to plant smaller customers.

I remember about 10 years ago CARS was rare (I remember installing RAC 9.2.0.1 for a customer - boy, which was DIFFICULT). 'All' that you must do to be a DBA then, was to understand things from single instance.

Five years later, most DBA needs to know about RAC/ASM/data Gurd if they wanted to be Production DBA - they had to understand specific, cluster, ASM and Data Guard stuff.

I can see that in a few years, DBAs must be competent in Exadata or similar - so they will need to understand specific, cluster, ASM, Data Guard AND Exadata stuff (networking, storage cells, etc.).

My point is that the DBA role changing faster than any tech specialty. Fortunately, Oracle makes things easier to administer the technologies we have to master to become more complex: I can testify how difficult 9.2.0.1 was put in place for CARS - management of a system of 11.2 is so MUCH more enjoyable!

Unless you work in a place that have no plan to upgrade their databases (due to legacy systems) and to grow as a business, then chances are that you will be finally exposed to what you are looking for. Of course, if you work in a place like this, then we could suggest you better find somewhere else to work. Stand still must be turned towards the back, etc...

Good luck. It is good to be ambitious, but don't forget that a DBA role is a this experience absolutely request - if you have 3 years to be a Production DBA and having to call this in the middle of the night, you probably better experience than someone who spent 6 years as a development DBA (IMO).

  • New to Oracle DBA

Recently I have been thrust into a role of DBA (kicking and screaming). My supervisor put me through the Oracle Sys Admin I & II workshops, but it's a starting point; It seems that many of the features that have been addressed are not used in our environment (ASM, AMM, RMAN, EM) that makes my life less funny!
My job now is to monitor the database for all performance issues, the prevention of proactive failure, the backup and restore (BU / R is managed by NetBackup/BCV with Symmetrix disk mirrored between).

I was an admin systems for many years, and I've been able to generate scripts a few sanitary controls outside the DB; at the level of the BONE. I'm starting to look at some of the views v$ that allow me to see what is happening in our system.
I have a few generalized questions, I would ask (if I need a separate thread for each of the questions let me know and I'll repost):
    1. How can I determine what features are used by the database (outside the features mentioned above)?
    2. what should be followed on a base < interval > (hourly, daily, monthly)?
    3. what should I look for when I followed him? (right now I look at the alert log every day for entries "ORA" - and send alerts...)

I'm sure I'll have many more questions, but these are ones I have on my mind right now.
I apologize for the generality of my questions, I'm sure we'll get more accurate that the discussion continues.

    We had the following:
Oracle 11 g 2 HA (Veritas Cluster NOT oracle cluster or grid control) mode running on Solaris 10...
Thanks in advance for helping me understand this complex beast!

    Hello

    1. How can I determine what features are used by the database (outside the features mentioned above)?
    A >

Under query will give the features that are currently enabled on your database.
    Select * option $ v where the VALUE = 'TRUE '.

This will give you the details usage report features db if used

    Select * from DBA_FEATURE_USAGE_STATISTICS where CURRENTLY_USED = 'TRUE '.

    2. what should be followed on a basis (hourly, daily, monthly)?
    A >
S/n should be followed always schedule/carefully, but you can't be human control grid or cronjobs (with automatic e-mail alerts) should be programmed.
AWR/ADDM features are available that allows you to go back in time & see what was going on in DB giving excellent statistics of the DB

    3. what should I look for when I followed him? (right now I look at the alert log every day for entries "ORA" - and send alerts...)
    A >
As grid needs licenses the simplest to be a SYSTEM administrator is to make some shell scripts and place a few jobs long life in cron
This cron so captured ORA-, err, corrupted fail, warning, down, stop channels alerts log
Apart from this you can also have scripts in place for session locking/blocking in DB, cpu/memory/IO TOP consuming SQL at the request to ship you once use Server metrics goes high
One of the most important is alert, space free OS space, tablespace space free sql must always be runing in cron every min

    Thank you
