Order of operations NAT on Site to Site VPN Cisco ASA
Hello
I have a question about the order of operations NAT on Site to Site VPN Cisco ASA 8.2.x. I have a scenario where the internal IP address of the range 10.17.128.x are NATTED IP public 31.10.10.x. below is the config:
Tunnel normally passes traffic to dmz - 31.10.11.10, 31.10.11.11 servers.
But the servers NATTED (10.17.128.x <->31.10.10.x) does not work.

He started to work when I did another group of object by name PHX_Local1 and added to the list of access inside_nat0_outbound, instead of the object group PHX_Local, as below:

No inside_nat0_outbound access list extended only to allowed ip object-group PHX_Local-group of objects HK_Remote
inside_nat0_outbound list extended access permitted ip object-group PHX_Local1-group of objects HK_Remote
Can you please help me understand why group object PHX_Local failed with access-list inside_nat0_outbound, but he began to work with the Group of objects PHX_Local1.
Also, if you could tell me the order of operations to NAT via VPN Site to Site, it would be useful.
Thank you
Kind regards
Thomas
Hello
I think you could have said the original question in a way that could be missleading. In other words, if I understand now.
From what I understand now, you have the DMZ set up the server that are measured with a public IP address on the real servers. And for those that you have configured NAT0.
Then you have other servers that do not have public IP addresses themselves, but they are translated on the SAA.
If this is the case, then the next question would be. The server with the NAT should attend the L2L VPN connection with their real IP or address IP NAT.
Of course if you configure static NAT for the same servers and NAT0 the NAT0 will always win.
You have these guests who were not able to use the VPN L2L
31.10.10.10 10.17.128.20
31.10.10.11 10.17.128.21
31.10.10.12 10.17.128.22
31.10.10.13 10.17.128.23
IF you want them to go to the VPN L2L with their original IP address then you must configure
object-group, LAN->
host of the object-Network 10.17.128.20
host of the object-Network 10.17.128.21
host of the object-Network 10.17.128.22
host of the object-Network 10.17.128.23
object-group, REMOTE network
host of the object-Network 102.1.1.10
inside_nat0_outbound list extended access allowed ip-group of objects LOCAL object-group remote
outside_cryptomap_50 list extended access allowed ip-group of objects LOCAL object-group remote
IF you want to use the L2L VPN with the public IP address, then you must configure
object-group, LAN
host of the object-Network 31.10.10.10
host of the object-Network 31.10.10.11
host of the object-Network 31.10.10.12
host of the object-Network 31.10.10.13
object-group, REMOTE network
host of the object-Network 102.1.1.10
outside_cryptomap_50 list extended access allowed ip-group of objects LOCAL object-group remote
EDIT: in this case you naturally do not configure any NAT0 for actual IP addresses we want precisely the IP addresses to be visible to the L2L VPN with the IP NAT address.
Or you can of course use the same "object-group" as currently but change the content in an appropriate manner
Be sure to mark it as answered if it was answered.

Troubleshooting IPSec Site to Site VPN between ASA and 1841
Hi all
in the past I've implemented several VPN connections between the devices of the SAA. So I thought a site link between an ASA site and 1841 would be easier... But it seems I was mistaken.
I configured a VPN Site to Site, as it has been described in the Document ID: SDM 110198: IPsec Site to Site VPN between ASA/PIX and an example of IOS Router Configuration (I have not used SDM but CCP).
I have run the wizards on the ASA with ASDM and the current IOS version 15.1 1841, with CCP.
It seems to Phase 1 and 2 are coming although my ASA in ADSM reports (monitoring > VPN > VPN statistics > Sessions) a tunnel established with some of the Tx traffic but 0 Rx traffic),
On the ASA:

It seems that the routing on the 1841 is working properly as I can tear down the tunnel and relaunch in scathing a host on the network of 1841, but not vice versa.
Trounleshoot VPN of the 1841 report shows a message like "the following sources are forwarded through the interface card crypto. (172.20.2.0 1) go to "Configure-> routing" and correct the routing table.
I have not found an error on the 1841 config so if one of the guys reading this thread has an idea I appreciate highly suspicion!
It's the running of the 1841 configuration

Joerg,
ASA receives not all VPN packages because IOS does not send anything.
Try to send packets to the 1841 LAN to LAN of the ASA and see is the "sh cry ips its" on the 1841 increments the encrypted packets (there not)
The problem seems so on the side of the router.
I think that is a routing problem, but you only have one default gateway (no other channels on the router).
The ACL 100 is set to encrypt the traffic between the two subnets.
It seems that the ACL 101 is also bypassing NAT for VPN traffic.
Follow these steps:
Try running traffic of LAN router inside IP (source of ping 192.168.37.x 172.20.2.254) and see if the packages are not through the translation and obtaining encrypted.
I would also like to delete 100 ACL from the inside interface on the router because it is used for the VPN. You can create an another ACL to apply to the interface.
Federico.

2 one-Site VPN Cisco 2801 and with crossing NAT
Hi guys,.
I would like to configure two Cisco 2801 using IPSEC/IKE. Both routers are connected to the internet through DSL lines. The DSL line have RFC1918 address side LAN where routers connected to the internet face. I can do NAT on DSL modems.
Cisco IOS 2801 routers allow to configure site-2-site VPN with NAT crossing?
Here is a model of physics/IP configuration:
LAN<->2801 Modem DSL<-Internet->DSL modem<-Priv ip-=""> 2801<-Priv ip-=""><-> LAN
Thank you
Gonçalo
Yes, you're good to go only if one or both of the sites has an IP address which is natted with private IP address statically. The implementation of IPSec on SRI NAT support in most crosses so that shouldn't be a concern

IPSec site to site VPN cisco VPN client routing problem and
Hello
I'm really stuck with the configuration of ipsec site to site vpn (hub to spoke, multiple rays) with cisco vpn remote client access to this vpn.
The problem is with remote access - cisco vpn client access - I can communicate with hub lan - but I need also communication of all lans speaks of the cisco vpn client.
There are on the shelves, there is no material used cisco - routers DLINK.
Someone told me that it is possible to use NAT to translate remote access IP-lan-HUB customers and thus allow communication - but I'm unable to set up and operate.
Can someone help me please?
Thank you
Peter

How the DLINK has been configured for traffic between the site to site VPN subnets? You are able to add multiple remote subnets on DLINK? If you can, then you must add the pool of Client VPN subnet.
Alternatively, if you cannot add multiple subnet on DLINK router, you can change the pool of Client VPN 192.168.6.0/24, and on the crypto ACL between the site to site VPN, you must edit the 180 existing ACL

Also change the ACL 190 split tunnel:

access-list 190 allow ip 192.168.1.0 0.0.0.255 192.168.6.0 0.0.0.255
Finally, replace the remote subnet 192.168.7.0/255.255.255.0 192.168.6.0/255.255.254.0 DLINK.
Hope that helps.

Site to Site VPN problem ASA 5505
Hello
I have a strange problem with a site to site VPN. I configured it completely and I added 3 of my internal networks to be encrypted and access the remote network across the tunnel.
For some reason, I can access the remote network of only two of the three internal networkls that I've specified.
Here is a copy of my config - if anyone has any info I would be happy of course.
Thank you
Kevin

Site to Site VPN Cisco IOS 1941 15.0 (1) M1
Hello
I am currently developing a Site VPN site between an ASA and a router in 1941. Configuring VPN on the SAA seems to be ok, because it works without problem with router 1841 with IOS 12.4 to the other site. The same VPN configuration on the new router in 1941 with M1 IOS 15.0 (1) does not work. It seems that the access to the crypto map list is the problem. The router never start the VPN connection. When the ASA attempts to establish the VPN, the debugging of the router log shows:

site to site vpn with ASA 5500 series SSL?
We have routers DLink DIR - 130 5505 s ASA and PIXen, all work well with our PIX 515E, we need to replace.
We also have Internet satellite in two places. High latency makes IPsec VPN to DLinks on these very slow sites.
We were informed by HughesNet that a SSL VPN will mitigate some of the problems of latency.
However, we cannot use a VPN client for the biometric timeclocks in these places, the clocks need static IP addresses and are more or less "dumb terminals".
The machine of series 5000 ASA VPN site to site similar to OpenVPN or only the most comment client-server type SSL VPN connections?
Thank you, Tom
Hi Thomas,
The SSL VPN on ASAs feature is a client/server relationship where the remote computer can connect without client (browser) or clientbased (AnyConnect) to the ASA.

Hi guys
Two sites are on connection MPLS and things work fine. Is now looking to connect a second ISP and create a failover site-to-site VPN. If the main ISP goes down (in the case of a power failure full at the ISP level which is unlikely, but just in case) then MPLS should failover site to site VPN which will be completely on a different secondary ISP. Can someone provide me with options as if I have to use ospf, bgp and ip sla? If the follow-up involved how can I follow the MPLS? is it even that track just interface or any special routing required? etc and... your help is greatly appreciated... Thank you...
Hello
It actually depends on what is already at work.
I usually do with IP SLA is not running Routing Protocol, OSPF, BGP are always my first option.
IP SLA parameters should be the same, just point to an available IP address accessible through the main connection and follow your routes using this instance.
In terms of VPN, make sure the encryption card is on the secondary interface, and it should do.
HTH.

Remote VPN site to site vpn on ASA?
Hello
I would like to know if it is possible to have this configuration with an ASA5510:
(1) - remote access VPN (access by the external interface)
(2) - site to site VPN (same access interface)
The goal: users of vpn (1) can access the server remote vpn (2) and vice versa.
Is it possible? and what is the best practice to do?
Thank you very much!
J.
Yes, you can do it.
Same-security-traffic command traffic to enter and leave the interface even when used with the
keyword intra-interface, that allows the VPN support has spoke-to-spoke.
Here are a few examples.

Publish a server with NAT anchored through a tunnel VPN with ASA
Hi all
Thanks in advance for helping me out - I know somebody did, and I have trouble finding how do. I don't know that I'm missing something simple.
I have a client who wants to view a DVR device through a VPN tunnel that is published through the public firewall to collocation. Endpoint DVR is endpoint ip assigned dynamically which tunnelle the host on demand (I know that the tunnel could fall).
So I think / thought I could hairpin hair/policy nat this, but I'm not the best at this.
Let's see if I can get this
IP public 1.1.1.1\
> External interface of ASA
2.2.2.2 / private ip
My config as I know it is pertinant is as follows:
permit same-security-traffic intra-interface
list of allowed incoming access extended ip any host 168.215.x.x
Access-group interface incoming outside
public static 168.215.x.x (outside, outside) 10.10.x.xnetmask 255.255.255.255
I am running version 8.2.5 of the image of the SAA.
If you could take a look and let me know what Miss me you please.
Thank you
Hello
The problem here is of course the fact that we can not configure NAT0 without causing all traffic from the remote Internet can flow through the VPN connection.
So I wonder if another type of NAT configuration would actually work.
I would call it static political identity NAT if such a name exists yet.
Something like that
Note of DVR-POLICY-NAT-list of Direct HTTP access to VPN traffic
allow to Access-list DVR-POLICY-NAT tcp host 10.10.2.253 eq 80 a
public static 10.10.2.53 (inside, outside) access list DVR-POLICY-NAT
This should basically do what
- When the DVR is sending any traffic source TCP TCP/80 (essentially the traffic back to the connection from the main site) to ANY destination address (The Internet) then the host must translate to himself.
- If we consider that NAT is performed before the VPN rules are processed this should mean that since we have concerns address itself, it must match the VPN rule only in this particular case where the traffic is TCP/80, which could only be the result of her replying to a link any destination TCP/80)
- Which leads me to believe it shouldn't cause any problems with the Central connection on remote site (NAT0 is processed before political static NAT) or the RECORDER to Internet
- Unless the DVR must be accessible directly via the Internet connection of the remote site. (He would send his answers to these HTTP connections outside with the originating source IP address) Or maybe even completely before connecting the phase failure. I have not tested.
Hope this helps

Hello
I have a question on a Cisco ASA.
We strive to set up a VPN connection with a provider of our using the 172.16.1.0/24 subnet now that they already have another customer using 172.16.1.0/24, then NAT traffic on a different subnet before connecting to the provider. Is this possible? If yes how can I configure something like this?
172.16.1.0/24 is also used to access the internet.
That's what I have right now:
!
internet_cryptomap_2 to access ip 192.168.0.0 scope list allow 255.255.252.0 (subnet provider)
!
card crypto internet_map1 3 match address internet_cryptomap_2
internet_map1 crypto map peer set 3 (IP address of provider)
internet_map1 crypto map 3 the value transform-set tubis-transformset
internet_map1 crypto map 3 the value reverse-road
!
This VPN works, but only for the subnet listed in the cryptomap_2 unfortunately, I can't use 172.16.1.0/24 for this.
Anyone has any ideas how to solve this problem?
Kind regards
Tom
Yes, you can...
Assuming you want to 172.16.1.0/24 NAT to 10.16.1.0/24 when accessing the provider subnet 192.168.0.0
access list static-nat-to-vendor permit ip 172.16.1.0 255.255.255.0 192.168.0.0 255.255.252.0
public static 10.16.1.0 (inside, outside) access static-nat-to-provider list
access extensive list ip 10.16.1.0 internet_cryptomap_2 allow 255.255.255.0 192.168.0.0 255.255.252.0
Assuming you have ASA 8.2 or lower.

Hello
I'm trying to implement a VPN site-to site. I've never done this before and can't make it work. I looked online training videos and thought it looked fairly straightforward. My problem seems to be that th ASA does not try to create a tunnel. He doesn't seem to know that this traffic should be sent over the tunnel. Both external interfaces can ping each other and are on the same subnet.
I glued the two configs below. They have just basic configs with all VPN orders, having been created by the wizard. I did put the routes that both devices are on the same subnet. If you can see my error, I would be very grateful if you could point out or even point me in the right direction.
See you soon,.

Hello
Then your ASAs directly connected by the same network do not need a route to connect with eachother that VPN traffic still has a route to the remote network so that the traffic will be forwarded to the VPN L2L connection.
To my knowledge that the SAA should do a route search before everything about the VPN is made. In this spirit the cant of the SAA is really decide where to forward traffic that it doesn't even have a default route for traffic that he does not know the specific road.
So I guess you have to be to add this on the two ASAs
card crypto outside_map 1 the value reverse-road
and/or
Configure a default route on each SAA pointing the other ASA, so they can choose the interface appropriate for traffic to destination across the VPN L2L.
Try these and let me know if it works for you.
Hope this helps

Hello
I'm trying to set up a VPN site-to site on a cisco 877 that connects to an ISA Server.
It fails on Phase 2 with the following error:
000320: * apr 21 12:11:07.028 PCTime: IPSEC (validate_proposal_request): proposal
Part #1
(Eng. msg key.) Local INCOMING = 83.X.X.X, distance = 87.X.X.X,.
local_proxy = 172.16.25.0/255.255.255.0/0/0 (type = 4),
remote_proxy = 87.x.x.x/255.255.255.255/0/0 (type = 1),
Protocol = ESP, transform = NONE (Tunnel),
lifedur = 0 and 0kb in
SPI = 0 x 0 (0), id_conn = 0, keysize = 0, flags = 0 x 0
00323: * apr 21 12:11:07.028 PCTime: map_db_find_best found no corresponding card
00324: * apr 21 12:11:07.028 PCTime: IPSEC (ipsec_process_proposal): proxy identity
IES not supported
In accordance with the foregoing, it seems to be using the public IP address of the peer for the 'Remote_Proxy' and not the local network: 10.0.0.0, 255.0.0.0
In my definition of the crypto map, I have 'correspondence address 104", which is an access list which reads:
access-list 104. allow ip 172.16.25.0 0.0.0.255 10.0.0.0 0.255.255.255
access-list 104 deny ip 172.16.25.0 0.0.0.255 anyAnyone know what can be the problem?
Kind regards
Simon
If you can, try to ping from another device on the subnet 172.16.25.x.

Quick question on site to site vpn to ASA 8.2 code
Hi, I seem to remember that if you change the settings of vpn through the CLI you must remove the front interface cryptographic card & reapply after. This is always the case - that is to say you have to have the existing vpn downtime when counterparts added new vpn - FYI we run code 8.2 for our ASA...
I can't imagine this to be the case...
TIA
Mark
Hello
There is no need to remove the encryption from the interface card more.
If you delete the peer say... you get a card crypto incomplete... error but that's all.
