Outlook Express in Windows XP SP3 edition. My incoming emails started to go directly in my deleted items folder.

I use Outlook Express in Windows XP Service Pack 3. several weeks ago, some of my incoming emails began to go to my Inbox deleted instead of my box. All shippers are in my Contacts List.Why is it?

As I said in my first answer, click file | Identities and establish a new identity.  See if that solves the problem, which will remove any possible corruption of the registry for OE.  In addition, antivirus and antispam programs do not work well with OE, so they could contribute, depending on what you are using.  See www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3

    There is no bar in WLMail 2011 and 2012. What version do you use? The last version to work under XP (this forum) is WLMail 2009 and having a Menu bar with file on it.

  • Import e-mail messages from Outlook Express in Windows Live Mail?

    I have recently moved to a new PC with Win7 and have been using Live Mail - more often with success, I thought with the exception of one or two faults, but I'll probably post a question on those.
    On the audit of my old PC today, when I open Oulook Express have been downloaded more than 100 emails that have not appeared in Live Mail - dating back to the time I went.
    I tried to export these messages of OE, put it on a USB key and then import in LM LM do not seem to recognize them - these are the dbx files. Suggestions anyone please?

    If both computers use the same e-mail address, you must do this to get the messages on both.
     
    On both machines: tools | Accounts | Mail | Properties | Advanced - Check: leave a copy of messages on the server.
     
    On a single computer only, make sure to delete messages after X days to satisfy your allocated space that you get from your server.

    If you just need to transfer these 100 messages, put a Windows folder on the desktop. Drag the messages of OE this folder. Copy the folder on the new machine and drag the messages into a folder of WLMail.

    I followed your instructions and now have "storage folders" visible. However that a single user account recorded message records showing if you keep double clicking and scrolling down. There are 3 other user accounts whose records are not visible. I tried as well by importing and using Windows Easy Transfer for all alphanumeric codes in Outlook Express.   • Move Outlook Express on Windows XP to Windows 8

    I'm putting my new PC running Windows 8. My old PC is running XP.

    I have used Outlook express for email and have email POP3, my provider supports IMAP too.
    I started implementing the messaging application on Windows 8, but quickly found that, unless you use webmail is VERY limited. I have been using outlook express for years and currently have all my emails organized in folders for ease. I would like to find a way to transfer all emails, complete with the folder structure for a new e-mail program I can run on windows 8.
    I already have a hotmail address and a gmail address, which are related to the Windows 8 messaging application.
    What is the best way to go about this? I am happy to download new software, but prefer to stick to the free software. I read solutions using Windows Live Mail and Mozilla Thunderbird, but I do not know how to best to achieve my goals.
    The old PC works always (but at snails pace) if that helps with a simple solution.

  • Right click menu 'tools' in Outlook Express 6 (win XP SP3), the element 'account' no more exists. __

    My ISP provider made a swap to the ADSL2 + for that my old ADSL modem is not no longer works.

    I changed it and now I'm using a suitable Modem-router that does not use a "remote connection" as before, but a framework of LAN.

    Well: Internet Explorer 8 is okay work, Outlook Express 6 (Win XP SP3) continue to ask for a connection that does not exist and here, it stops.

    I went to see my O.E.  setting 'accounts', but it is no longer possible because by clicking on the 'Tools' menu, the element 'account' no longer exists.

    The problem has been fixed (I think) but in a most unusual way. Let me explain.

    When I was closing down to give the computer a rest yesterday, there was a pop up saying that vprotector expected to close. He really wanted the process of closing until I clicked on finish the process. Curious to know what vprotector is, I searched on the net and got a lot of shots, saying: it is a virus and should be deleted pronto. So I searched the hard drive for the vprot. * and found in the folder program files for AVG!

    I then went to AVG to see if it's really a part of AVG and they said yes. If there is a problem with vprot, the toolbar is at fault and needs to be reinstalled. There was one click here to download and run the part of the program to fix the problem. However, I had WebRoot antivirus running that stopped the download of this program as a virus. Because I trust AVG, I've disabled WebRoot and reinstalled the AVG search bar.

    I haven't restarted WebRoot and computer flying along as it should, and OE is the link to IE when I click on a link as it has always done.

    Seems to me to be the faulty AVG toolbar and a cross with two virus programs upward was at fault. Thank you for your time. Your reply gave me a chance to think differently this problem could arise.

    Computers are really complicated machines and we have to be complicated to deal with their problems.

  • XP: Outlook Express to Windows Live Mail - Emails have disappeared

    My boss had some problems a few months where a piece of his e-mails have been deleted.  Like a year or two of a value.  He had a ton of emails in their Inbox.  Just recently he started having the same e-mail repeatedly.  I decided to download windows live mail and install it on his computer.  It is running XP.

    I installed live mail.  He acknowledged the current e-mail account, he is using Outlook Express (POP3).  However, there is only the latest e-mail messages.  So, I went to windows live mail and click on file - import - and I imported Outlook Express 6.  He asked me what files and I clicked on the button that says it all.

    He went through the process and declared finished.  It was supposed to put the files in the storage folder.  I check the records of storage and there is nothing in the Inbox sent items folder has its old emails in them.  I looked around, in the other Inbox for the normal email account there and there is nothing more.

    I'm going to switch back to outlook express and its Inbox has no emails as well.  I'm like ooohhhh _.  If anyone can help, I would really appreciate it.

    I don't know if it compacted emails in outlook express.

    For now, let's deal with Outlook Express.

    Two reasons the most common for what you describe is disruption of the compacting process, (never touch anything until it's finished), or bloated folders. More about that below.

    Recovery methods:

    If you use XP/SP2 or SP3, and are fully patched, then you should have a backup of your dbx files in the Recycle Bin (or possibly the message store), copied as bak files.

    To restore a folder bak on the message store folder, first find the location of the message store.

    Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store folder will reveal the location of your Outlook Express files. Note the location and navigate on it in Explorer Windows or, copy and paste in start | Run.

    In Windows XP, the .dbx files are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in the Solution Explorer, you must enable Show hidden files and folders under start | Control Panel | Folder options | View.

    Close OE and in Windows Explorer, click on the dbx to the file missing or empty file, then drag it to the desktop. It can be deleted later once you have successfully restored the bak file. Minimize the message store.

    Open OE and, if the folder is missing, create a folder with the * exact * same name as the bak file you want to restore but without the .bak. For example: If the file is Saved.bak, the new folder should be named saved. Open the new folder, and then close OE. If the folder is there, but just empty, continue to the next step.

    First of all, check if there is a bak file already in the message. If there is, and you have removed the dbx file, go ahead and rename it in dbx.

    If it is not already in the message, open the trash and do a right-click on the file bak for the folder in question and click on restore. Open the message store up and replace the .bak by .dbx file extension. Close the message store and open OE. Messages must be in the folder.

    If messages are restored successfully, you can go ahead and delete the old dbx file that you moved to the desktop.
     
    If you have not then bak copies of your dbx files in the Recycle Bin:

    A general warning to help avoid this in the future:

    Do not archive mail in default OE folders. They finally are damaged. Create your own folders defined by the user for mail storage and move your mail to them. Empty the deleted items folder regularly. Keep user created folders under 300 MB, and also empty as is possible to default folders.

    Disable analysis in your e-mail anti-virus program. It is a redundant layer of protection that devours the CPUs, slows down sending and receiving and causes a multitude of problems such as time-outs, account setting changes and has even been responsible for the loss of messages. Also, I copied my old laptop Favorites in the news (via a hd post), but they do not appear in IE8. I know where the files are, I can't just them getting in the browser. What should I do?

    My grandfather is not familiar with Windows 98, I understand that it is a version absolete. It is impossible to access his e-mail from your Windows Live Hotmail account I would like to know how to import messages from a hotmail account in Outlook Express for Windows 98.     Is there a reason to worry about the tons of emails stored in folders other than the Inbox, individual?  I get a lot of emails and can not find the time to edit and delete unwanted emails probably I have no more did not read or did not have time to read, but want to keep my Inbox under control.  Other computer storage capacity, should I be concerned about the volume of emails that I store in a lot of different folders?

    Yes. Very well then.

    General precautions for Outlook Express:

    Do not archive mail in the receipt or sent items box. Create your own user-defined folders and move messages you want to put in them. Empty the deleted items folder daily. Although the dbx files have a theoretical capacity of 2 GB, I recommend all a 300 MB max for less risk of corruption.

    Information on the maximum size of the .dbx files that are used by Outlook Express:

    After you're done, followed by compacting your folders manually while working * off * and do it often.

    Click Outlook Express at the top of the the folder tree so no folders are open. Then: File | Work offline (or double-click on work online in the status bar). File | Folder | Compact all folders. Don't touch anything until the compacting is completed.

    Disable analysis in your e-mail anti-virus program. It is a redundant layer of protection that devours the processors and causes a multitude of problems such as time-outs and account setting changes. Your up-to-date A / V program will continue to protect you sufficiently. For more information, see:

    I'm afraid that if I upgrade the form Outlook Express to Windows Live Mail, I will lose all e-mail addresses in my address book current as well as the information contained in the files - models etc.

    If you install WLMail on your XP machine, it has to import messages and addresses automatically and nothing will be lost of OE.
