Outlook Express with ATT U-verse Internet

Could use REALLY help!  I recently moved and changed to ATT U-verse Internet service.  I'm trying to continue to use Outlook Express for e-mail.  Used OE for more than 10 years without any problem on 2 different cable operators.  After changing the settings of accounts / start ATT U-verse Guide, I can't send or receive email.  phone support (ESL) level 1 has failed several times to share control and told her level 2 that he was 'out of their reach!  Looks like they give bad information about the settings as ATT servers (actually Yahoo!) simply reject access. SMTP error is 0x800CCCOF.  Error POP is 0x800CCC18.  Of course, cannot recommend U-verse Internet service!

Try going to tools | Options in OE and set it as default value for it.  Also in Internet Explorer go to tools | Internet Options | Programs and set as default OE it as well, or click the reset web settings button, if it is present.

Outlook Express broke down.  With Windows XP SP3 can get detailed instructions on how to uninstall and reinstall Outlook with original disc?

OE gives an error message standard it is not correctly installed.  Its a remnant message from OE4 and is false.  You probably corruption with folders.dbx and you should remove it.  See www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#7 then, after departures OE you must back up your messages and given the corruption, go to file | Identities and setup a new identity for you give a fresh message store and then you can use file | Import | Messages to bring them from the old identity.

    1. The error message indicates a corrupt Inbox.
    2. Messages if even received any at least in the second ID, in tools | Accounts, you also have the first account ID listed. First fix the Inbox.

    Error number: 0x800C0133 = a corrupt Inbox.

Move any message you want to save to a local folder that you create. Then, remove the problem of Inbox as follows.

Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store folder will reveal the location of your Outlook Express files. Note the location and navigate on it in Explorer Windows or, copy and paste in start | Run.

In Windows XP, Win2K & Win2K3 the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in Windows Explorer, you must enable Show hidden files and folders under start | Control Panel | Folder options | View.

With OE closed, find the box of Inbox.dbx and delete it. Another will be created automatically when you open OE.

To avoid this in the future:

Do not archive mail in the receipt or sent items box. Create your own user-defined folders and move messages you want to put in them. Empty the deleted items folder daily. Although the dbx files have a theoretical capacity of 2 GB, I recommend all a 300 MB max for less risk of corruption.

After you're done, followed by compacting your folders manually while working * off * and do it often.

Click Outlook Express at the top of the the folder tree so no folders are open. Then: File | Work offline (or double-click on work online in the status bar). File | Folder | Compact all folders. Don't touch anything until the compacting is completed.

Disable analysis in your e-mail anti-virus program. It is a redundant layer of protection that devours the processors and causes a multitude of problems such as time-outs and account setting changes. Your up-to-date A / V program will continue to protect you sufficiently. For more information, see:

  • Outlook Express with Windows XP folder capacity

Is there a reason to worry about the tons of emails stored in folders other than the Inbox, individual?  I get a lot of emails and can not find the time to edit and delete unwanted emails probably I have no more did not read or did not have time to read, but want to keep my Inbox under control.  Other computer storage capacity, should I be concerned about the volume of emails that I store in a lot of different folders?

    Thank you, Mark

Is there a reason to worry about the tons of emails stored in folders other than the Inbox, individual?

    Yes. Very well then.

    General precautions for Outlook Express:

Do not archive mail in the receipt or sent items box. Create your own user-defined folders and move messages you want to put in them. Empty the deleted items folder daily. Although the dbx files have a theoretical capacity of 2 GB, I recommend all a 300 MB max for less risk of corruption.

Information on the maximum size of the .dbx files that are used by Outlook Express:

After you're done, followed by compacting your folders manually while working * off * and do it often.

Click Outlook Express at the top of the the folder tree so no folders are open. Then: File | Work offline (or double-click on work online in the status bar). File | Folder | Compact all folders. Don't touch anything until the compacting is completed.

  • Try to use Outlook Express with the service is possible?

    Has anyone tried this before?

You must have an SMTP server which is already available, and then the information would be provided to you.  Otherwise, you will need to set up your own server and then enable SMTP on this server.  But the account would already have to be implemented in OE before that you could initiate a shipment.

  • I can ONLY connect to the internet with IE7 and Outlook Express

I have Win XP SP3, home wired network, Netgear router, cable internet, Lenovo desktop.
I can run IE 7 and Outlook Express and connect to the internet very well with these.  However, I can not connect using FireFox.  Windows Update returns an error and does NOT connect to scan my computer and display the necessary updates.  I just installed tax program this year HR CD block and it is unable to connect to internet to download the updates.  I used IE7 to go to the web site of the tax program to download the update manually, but it doesn't connect either.  I also can't complete installation OF Adobe (Digital Editions) program because it must connect to the internet in order to make a registration.

I have disabled the Windows Firewall, do not have a configured proxy.  So, I can browse the internet with IE7 and get email with Outlook express.  I went on the site from Google Chrome to try to download it and install it that (using IE7 of course), but after I press the "Download" button, IE7 says that it cannot connect to perform the download.

I scanned this forum and not seen similar symptoms that would allow me to reach a solution.  Everyone knows about this issue and how to resolve?

P.S. I have two other laptops Win XP which CAN completely connect to internet with IE and Firefox via the same router and the modem cable.

I tried trojan remover and none of the things in the menu utils found any problems.

But it turns out that my problem was a hidden/partial copy of Symantec Client Firewall that I thought was deleted.  Over the months some programs had been updated and Symantec didn't know about them, so it was blocking their access: FROM Adobe, HR Block, IE8, Firefox, etc.  Given that I have not seen it listed in the start menu and it was not listed in Add/Remove Programs, I didn't have to try to remove it.  And it was not poping up to tell me of a new program attempts to access the Internet.

I used the Symantec tool to remove all THE stuff of Symantec and it cleared up my connection problems.  I then reinstalled Symantec Client Security (antivirus and firewall) and turned off the Windows Firewall.

  • I can get my emails through outlook express running internet explorer 9?

I am trying to receive emails from work using outlook express with windows 7 Home Edition, its 9 internet Explorer running.

Outlook Express can only be used in the Windows 7 via a virtual (or similar) XP operating system which takes in charge the OE.  Windows Mail (aka OE in Vista) can be hacked to run in Windows 7.   (See www.oehelp.com/OEnWin7.aspx)  But OE can be run from Windows 7.

If you access webmail for your email provider, you can use IE9 to access e-mail.  Try to go to your webmail provider and see if there is a link to connect to your e-mail.

  • Outlook Express file delivery with mailto address:

Sites with mailto: links do not pass through the address of the recipient to Outlook Express with Firefox 5. This problem has persisted for at least 4 months now, and a fix was promised months ago. I am running 5.0.1 on a PC with Windows XP. Outlook Express runs, but does not open the new message window and of course nothing is filled in.

    MSIMN.exe is Outlook Express.

As far as I know Outlook Express has been replaced by Windows Live Mail even if use you it just like Outlook Express on your computer, not on a web page. But I had been on Windows 2000 and am now on Windows 7. You are on XP.

When I looked at mailto: mine shows "Windows Live Mail (default)" and shows 'WinMail.exe' details chosen and Yahoo Mail and GMail. And the commentary to the dialog box for the selected-"this application is located in: C:\Program Files\Windows Mail\WinMail.exe".

Most things seem to be found by dumb luck, even more luck is when what you find, it's something that you really want. Someone else will probably have the same problem a day - please mark the issue as resolved so that all those who are seeking answers to the same problem knows that there is a solution available. I doubt that I would have looked beyond the default selection. Do you want to show Outlook Express in the title bar, or you do not show Windows Live Mail (or something slightly different, that I do not remember what was between the two).
