Tecra 8000: Desk Station V + chipset/HDD on Debian Linux?
Hello!
I have a Toshiba Tecra 8000 and a desk Station V, currently under Debian Linux.
The HARD drive I have in my docking station is functional, but very slow (and I know that's not the drive itself, it works very well in another computer). I can't seem to activate the DMA ("' HDIO_SET_DMA failed: operation not permitted", is it still possible for hard disks anchored? "), but it works with one internal. The HD internal (had) gets pretty decent speeds, but externally (hde) works at a snail's pace:
Ulmo: / etc # hdparm-t/dev/hda
/ dev/hda:
Calendar of the disc in the buffer reads: 14 MB to 4.94 seconds = 2.83 MB / secUlmo: / etc # hdparm t/dev/hde
/ dev/hde:
Calendar reads disc in the buffer: 2 MB in 3.92 seconds = 522,50 kB / secAny suggestions? A fact, anyone know if the Desk Station V requires any configuration of chipset/IDE controller or support?
Thanks for any help whatsoever.
Hello
As much as I know the Station V Plus office devoted additional features to Enhanced Port Replicator II as follows:
a PCI/ISA bus and a bus PCI expansion slots, a Bay 5 inches.
a selectable Bay and a built-in SCSI-2 (Small Computer System Interface) controller.
I also found information on the net that the Desk Station V plus supports also only the UDMA2.Well, I think that the internal interface for laptop is a bit faster than the DSV.

Debian Linux Bootloader and VMware Player and Windows 8.1
I installed VMware on laptop windows 8.1 and begins installation of Debian Linux.
Warnings about partitions and especially the bootloader potentially make my laptop not boot gave me cold feet so I bypassed the charger installation of.
At this point Windows system seems to be intact.
So here's my question. If I come back and install the boot loader, boot linux OS only when I press on play on VMware Player or it will make windows unbootable?
If the latter, how do I install the bootloader on a USB?
Hi again, plc775!
Severe warnings are because the operating system has no idea that it is inside a virtual machine comfortably insulated from the rest of your host. As long as you created the virtual machine in a pretty normal way (for example, by using the instructions in your other post) and did not have something really unusual (for example, through a physical disk from the host to the virtual machine), hard disk of the virtual machine is quite secluded and the guest is unable to make your host does not start and you can go ahead and install this Bootstrapper on the hard disk of the virtual machine.
(By the way, I noticed that you post in the forum VMware ESXi 5... I'll make both of your messages on the VMware Player forum, where they will receive a more appropriate audience.)
See you soon,.

Hi plc775and welcome to the VMware communities!
The version of Debian you downloaded is intended to be run directly on an ARM processor. VMware virtualization products virtualize the architecture of x 86 / x 64, no ARMS. You will need to download a version of x 86 / x 64 Debian (I suggest the "amd64" version) to run in VMware Workstation. You can then configure a build environment cross-targeting ARMS in your VM 7 Debian amd64.
I hope this helps!

I was wondering if anyone knows an m.o. to convert physical Linux vmware using converter 5. I looked, but everything I've found using Converter 4.0 + using Boot CD. For converter 5.0 can I us still need to boot CD or activation of SSH on linux... etc. If anyone can help with a step by step procedure really appreciated.
Thank you
Hello
Option 1
(1) save the file/etc/fstab
(2) try to re-create the file/etc/fstab without additional options for.

Try restarting the server.
Option 2
Edit the /etc/rc.local

P2V conversion for a remote source of Debian Linux
I tried to convert (P2V) my server physical linux (debian), but I can't.
I use a stand-alone server of vConverter4.
The conversion always stop on "connection to the server for assistance on the VM converter target."
I can access the virtual machine to help but I don't know what to do.
Help me please!
Then, you should try to make your help-VM to pings. Starting conversion, change the setting of VM for assistance, check the virtual network card adapter/device is "connected". If it is already connected, disconnect and then reconnect the back and now try to ping your IP VM Wizard.

Debian Linux suggestions for Satellite M60-135
Hello
I would like to have a Linux Debian functional system as a main OS on my M60-135.
So far, I have tried several Live CD and DVD:
-4 debian itself
-Knoppix to 5.2
-Kanotix 2006
-Sidux Chaos
-Ubuntu and Kubuntu (the two 6.10)
-Linux Mint 2.2Also:
-Fedora Core 6
-Free Mandriva 2007None of them work due to problems with the X server.
Obviously, the ATI graphics chip does not.
Setup continues correctly - even up to the sounds of the operating system startup - but the screen remains black.
So no way to enter the console, do not change the files or whatever. Now my answer:
Anyone who manages to get a Debian system running on such a machine an if-HOW?
Please keep in mind that I am a newbie to Linux and I have for these reasons forward rather 'visible' explanations ;-)By the way:
OpenSUSE 10.2 recognizes the graphics card properly and boots up to a visible screen.
What's different here?
However Suse is not my way of Linux...Thanks for all the ideas!
BluesHello
the thing is that linux is not perfectly executed on EACH system, so if you want first linux then use a distribution that works out of the box.
Thus, it doesn´t matter which distribution you use, if you are a beginner then start with suse. It s distribution perfect to start and after some time of practice, you'll have more experience and you would be able to configure your system if something goes down.
It s just a matter of time what distro you use, but don t overload with dists as fedora, gentoo, or something else.
Try it with suse and make your way. :)
Welcome and good luck

I have a problem with the keyboard of the laptop HP Pavilion 15 ab062nl.
the problem is with the keys ALT SHIFT and CTRL on the keyboard.for example when I use the shortcut ALT - TAB, after a few seconds, the ALT - TAB menu disappear as if I release the ALT key, but is not so.
Another example is when I surf the web, when I scroll with the mouse wheel, sometimes the beginning of the page to resize, as if I am pressing CTRL command while marching, or if I write a text, sometimes the borwser launch shortcut, as if I am pressing CTRL while I type text , for exaple so I type letter 'b', open bookmarks...Another example is while I'm typing the text, if I press the SHIFT key and that you start to type, started writing letters and after awhile, written in lowercase as I released shift, but I'm always pressing shift.
for example, if I press SHIFT + s, the result is this:
SSSSSSSSSSSSSSsssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss
some letters are capitalized, but others are tiny.I have not found a solution.
the only way to fix it temporarily, makes pressure for a few seconds the shift only, after that, the problem goes away indefinitely, or until the next reboot. This problem occurs with all versions of ubuntu (x 86 and x86_64), now I use Ubuntu 15.10, but I also tried 15.04, ubuntu 10.04 ubuntu ubuntu ubuntu 12.04, 14.04.
In addition, I have this problem too with the other Distributions of GNU/Linux (I tried Fedora, OpenSuse, ArchLinux, Antergos, Debian, SteamOS).
but is not and the hardware problem, because on Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 I don't have these problems.I also tried to connect an externa USB keyboard, and if I use external USB keyboard I have no problems.
In my view, is a compatibility issue with this laptop's built-in keyboard.
I tried to follow these problems using XEV, and results which is also if I use a cell phone, sometimes XEV reads an ENTRY from one of these 3 keys (SHIFT, CTRL, ALT) and while I'm pressing one of these major 3, XEV see also if I release and immedialty after press.
This is an example of the input while I touch Left_ALT for awhile

Add this line in the file/etc/default/grub

to the

for example, this is my config

grub update and restart

Damn! Found the problem thanks to locate you worker journal for me! :-)
(wonder why it has not been included in the package...)
The Linux server, I was trying to P2V was our external DNS server. If DNS has not been working so I changed my local Win7 to google.
Later, I changed our internal DNS to use google instead of our external as the "next hop" and I forgot to change my DNS Win7 config to use our single internal instead of google DNS.
Now the P2V for my Win7 PC is running...
Thank you :-) for a ton for your help

NB100 Linux - problems with Linux update and BIOS
Toshiba NB100
Memory 1 GB - Kinston - KTT667D2 / 1 G
Ubuntu 8.04 - Ubuntu Netbook Remix - CD from Toshiba
CD-rw/DVD-rw LG GE20 externel USB key
Keyboard differencesHello
I was very happy to buy my Toshiba netbook.
First of all, I configured the system ready - to reach the time Ubuntu-desktop, the first and everything was fine. Then I browsed menus and soon found "Aktualisierungsverwaltung" in German - should be 'Updatemanagement' in English - and began. After that I got a slow system, no sound card and later downloaded bios-udate 1.6 does not work too.
I bought the DVD LG (~75US/~60Eur) burner and restored with the Remix DVD Ubunto system. Who works well and takes about 10 minutes. I bought a Kingston memorymodule too and I've replaced the original one. The Kingston-modul works fine too.
After that I had read the thread, that work of doesn´t-update BIOS after update Ubuntu I tried again and now I have a good job of BIOS 1.6.
But I still 2 faullts:
The ' | '. (vertical bar) is not as shown on the keyboard Fn + X - it is Fn + Alt +.<>
The 151-update "package" still damage the system - I tried it for 2 times doing nothing but the restoration, of networking, and update.
The new 1.06 driver sound that I found at Toshiba-Germany and France-Toshiba are dead links (404), the line will help Toshiba now resolve this problem since 2 weeks and don't call back.
Any ideas?

Toshiba e-Studio 167: printing documents ODT LibreOffice 4 Linux problem
Hello
I'm trying to solve a problem when I try to print some documents ODT of LibreOffice 4 (13.04 Ubuntu operating system) on a Toshiba e-Studio 167 printer.
I have not received any response from my service technical so I hope someone can help me here.
When the document contains fonts as liberation, liberation Serif, etc., I get a printed page with the following error:
ERROR:
invalidfont
THE OFFENDING COMMAND
$definefont
BATTERY:
--nostringval--
WASRNP + LiberationSerif
--nostringval--
WASRNP + LiberationSerif
--nostringval--
--nostringval--
17However, if export ODT file in PDF format and print PDF files or if I print another PDF Acrobat file, it is not a problem. It works too, if I print a document Word (doc) opened to LibreOffice (usually with a Times New Roman font); in this case, LibreOffice indicates that the document has Times New Roman font, although it is not installed on the system, at least I can't see fonts in the drop-down list. In these cases, that the document prints well, but the new ODT documents with fonts system fail, what happens?
If I print in a local printer (HP Laserjet 1020), he has no problem with any document.
I tried to apply the solution given in the son, but if I change the type of PostScript printer language, I get the same error:
https://AskUbuntu.com/questions/69014/unable-to-print-from-LibreOffice
https://AskUbuntu.com/questions/68909/problem-printing-in-LibreOffice-writer-but-not-in-Adobe-Acrobat-Reader-or-EvolutThis is how I installed the printer driver:

The wizard has automatically detected the network printer: Toshiba e-Studio 167 Foomatic / Postscript (en)This site says that the printer works under linux:

Satellite A300-1EI: Debian Linux does not detect DVD drive
Hello guys,.
I am trying to install Debian debian-40r5, but the first issue I encountered is that the DVD is not detected correctly and the system setup program is not loaded.
What happens is...1. start the program installation of Linux and its load.
2. I am invited for selections of region/language/KB. Then when debian tries to detect the drives, the dvd is not detected, and I am asked to load the driver manually. I tried to load the drivers in the installer, but without success. If anyone knows how to load the appropriate driver, please me advice.
Thanks in advance,

All-in-one j6480 using linux, problems during the update of the kernel
I have a platform of linux opensuse 11.0 (printer was working fine before the update) and updated the linux kernel and lost the connection to a printer, is the hpj6480 all-in-one printer, then updated to hplip 3.9.2
using auto-install in the terminal, installed latest driver hplip 3.9.2, by checking installed software packages poster old version 2.8.4 printer hplip currently works as a USB direct connect but not wireless
other than the obvious question how do I solve this problem... What is the plan for the installation of the printer basic logic (IE... direct connect USB - wireless - cable) or install also completely wireless? ... I should completely uninstall the printer and system drivers and re - install as a new system... And are there associated lib files that it removed the old driver of 2.8 and 2.10?
It turns out that the hplip should be reinstalled... but which has also compounded the problem was that the firewall should be removed to complete installation... Thank you for your help
