P2V conversion for a remote source of Debian Linux

I tried to convert (P2V) my server physical linux (debian), but I can't.

I use a stand-alone server of vConverter4.

The conversion always stop on "connection to the server for assistance on the VM converter target."

I can access the virtual machine to help but I don't know what to do.

Help me please!

Then, you should try to make your help-VM to pings. Starting conversion, change the setting of VM for assistance, check the virtual network card adapter/device is "connected". If it is already connected, disconnect and then reconnect the back and now try to ping your IP VM Wizard.

  • P2V conversion for Windows 3.1 box

I have a client who we would like to P2V Windows 3.1 sound box because of some old, * but still useful *, applications out there, he is a candidate.  I looked at the specs for the vCenter Converter, and Windows 3.1 is not a supported operating system to do this, while VMware does support Windows 3.1.  How can I go on the conversion of this machine to a virtual machine?

    Thank you!

Wow - someone who still uses Win3.1 in production? -cool

I volunteered to help remotely if necessary

    Anyway-, here is the procedure...
Forget the converter - it won't help.

Plan A: requires a Ghost or Acronis LiveCD

Start the Win 3.1 machine in the LiveCD and create a full disk image and store it in the network
Then, create a new virtual machine with a slightly larger than the original IDE drive
Start new virtual machine in Ghost or Acronis LiveCD and restore the image via the network

the next time you start, make sure the disc starts the disk and cross your fingers

    Plan B
: requires a Knoppix LiveCD or a BartPE live CD or similar

Start the Win 3.1 machine in the LiveCD and create a zip of the bootdrive content and store it in the network
Then, create a new virtual machine with a slightly larger than the original IDE drive
Start the new virtual machine in an image disk BACK
Run fdisk to partition the drive - restart
format C: and sys C: execution to make the bootable disc
then start in LiveCD and unpack the archive that you have created before - copy archive network

the next time you start, make sure the disc starts the disk and cross your fingers

Plan C: remove the hard drive and attach it inside a USB box to a computer that is running VMware Workstation or VMplayer 3

This is the way with the best chances, but it requires a few steps...

  • P2V conversion where the Source is on the remote network?

    Hi all

I am new to this forum and a little new for VSphere 4.

My company offers off-site data protection and storage services, and has recently begun branching out in recovery of virtual network. In a Word, virtualize us network services essential to the customer on our ESX 4.0 host servers and make them available for access secure site-level disaster. Until recently we have used a re-usable restore starting from active state backups online system on servers as our means of conversion model VM P2V. It worked pretty well with one notable exception - a Windows SBS 2003 server.

As a work around the BMR virtual conversion, we would like to perform a 'traditional' system P2V conversion. The challenge? The source system is physically located miles on the customer's network.

So far, we have installed the VMWare Converter Stand alone on the source system (stand alone seems to be something wrong to get the VMWare Infrastructure compatible conversion, you must communicate with the destination ESX Server) and open the necessary ports on our firewall to allow communications with our ESX Server. Everything seems to work properly; However, the destination for the new VMDK cannot be the ESX Server. Since we need all volumes on that server to be cloned, the resulting 200 GB of a value of data transferred over the network will make this process impractical.

How can convert us this system to a virtual machine that is:

    1. written on a removable unit attached locally for transportation later and later import to our host server VSphere ESX 4.

    2. compatible with VSphere ESX 4.0.1

Hope for an answer or a 'trick '.

Some of the VMware machines are available as files of the FVO. If you go into the file menu of the vSphere client you will see "Deploy OVF model". Who can be a URL. I'll see if I can find a deployable unit of the FVO and post the link.

  • P2V conversion and snapshot

    Hello

I found the below on one site. Can someone please clarify?

    Q. What are the parameters that are taken into consideration when we initiate a snapshot?
SNA. Configuration of the virtual machine (what hardware is attached to it)
Status of the virtual hard disk file (back if necessary)
The memory state of the Virtual Machine (if it is under tension)

    Could you please develop meanings?

    Q. What are the requirements to convert a physical machine into a virtual machine?
SNA.  An agent must be installed on the physical machine
VI client must be installed with plug converter
A server to import/export virtual machines

    (What agent)

(Where the VI client must be installed and what is converter plugin)

    (Please specify)

    Answer to Q1:

on the application of a snapshot is to be able to return to exactly the State of the virtual machine in which the snapshot was created. In order to do this, all the (content of the disc, memory,...) must be restored. One of the reasons to come back to a snapshot may be an update that did not work as expected.

    Answer to Q2:

P2V installs the converter on the source machine agent.

The Client Plugin is no longer necessary. It was part of the vCenter Converter Server which was provided as a plugin for vCenter Server. With vSpehre 5 the converter is not supplied with vCenter Server, but provided as a separate application.

For a P2V conversion, it demanded to have a source and a target to which the source machine is converted as a virtual machine.

  • P2V Conversion error (ignored Socket)-

    Nice day!

I would like to ask for help with the issue, I met with my first try of P2V Conversion with a Server Live (RHEL4) with SAP, I used version 5.5 of ESXi.

Please see attachment for summarized error encountered.

    Nice day

It is usually advisable to attach the beam of any newspaper. Usually the server log contains no interesting information. In this case however the original error has been adopted if something can be seen.

I would recommend you stop all the essential services (especially Oracle) before the conversion, and then try again. Converter uses cloning with 'tar' to the file level. Even if the conversion itself was successful, you'd have incompatible application files if the services were running in this.

--> tar:. / oracle/PRG/origlogA/cntrl/cntrlPRG.dbf: file changed as we read it

--> tar:. / oracle/PRG/sapdata1/system_1/system.data1: file changed as we read it

  • Blue screen after the work of completely P2V conversion completed

    Hi all

I have try the P2V of Powered - on Windows XP conversion.

The conversion work was finished with the status "completely."

However, after that, when I try to power on the target of the Win XP on ESXi machine, the machine displays the blue screen and does not start.

If there is a way to solve this problem, would you please let me know?

    [more info]

    1.

I chose the installation of vmware tools option in the conversion with VMware Converer autonomous steps.

However, it was not installed in the target machine Win XP on ESXi.

    2.

In this Windows XP P2V conversion, I can always find a certain caveat on the sysprep file in Converter Wizard.

The warning is "Impossible to locate the necessary Sysprep files."

Due to the expiration of the period of support for Microsoft's Windows XP, I can't do anything about this warning.

The default disk for XP controller is BusLogic, specially for 32-bit Windows. It might work with LSI Logic, too but with SAS - hardly.

The warning of sysprep is on the customization steps. If you do not it - ignore it.

In regards to the VMware tools - you can install later vsphere client, after fixing the boot

Damn! Found the problem thanks to locate you worker journal for me! :-)

(wonder why it has not been included in the package...)

The Linux server, I was trying to P2V was our external DNS server. If DNS has not been working so I changed my local Win7 to google.

Later, I changed our internal DNS to use google instead of our external as the "next hop" and I forgot to change my DNS Win7 config to use our single internal instead of google DNS.

Now the P2V for my Win7 PC is running...

Thank you :-) for a ton for your help

  • P2V conversion

    Hello

While P2V, which is the agent that is installed on the physical server.

If it is filled with 60% and stopped for some reason, what happens at 60%. data, it is saved? or what will happen?

    Thanks in advance.

    -Prashant

If the P2V fails for some reason, the virtual machine will be removed from the inventory and in some cases may present themselves as disabled or orphans.  If this is the case, remove the inventory will remove the bad object.

The source server is not affected in anyway.

  • SQL database Suspect after the p2v conversion.

When I run my server sql p2v conversion 2000, one of the databases appear as 'suspect' and will not rise? I've been running conversions every day for months without problem, but has added an array with a MSA50 P600 controller and moved databases to the MSA50, and left the logs on the server (placed in a directory). I don't understand why this data appears as a suspect after the change. I can't knock the sql services since this is a production server. I run on VMware server 2.0 p2v conversion.

You should try using the version converter 4.0 beta because we made some improvements to solve these problems (some changes in the way which we snapshot). Also use Converter 4.0 beta, you can choose to stop SQL services before taking snapshots, so ensuring consistency of the database.

What are the network requirements for the remote server of the Panel?

I tried for awhile now to set up a Control Board.  I can connect to my remote panel of computers from other computers on my local network but nowhere else.

Whenever I use web publishing tool gives me a URL in this format: Http://Computer-Name.Corporate-Name.local:8086 / VI - nom.html apparently it means I have a local DNS server and this URL is meaningless to the public.

When I try to connect with the Operate > Connect to... remote control, I get this error message:

    "Connection to Server remote panel...".
"Connection refused by the server remote control specified: make sure that the LabVIEW Web server is enabled on the specified server.

I got the same error when I tried to host a remote panel from my laptop at home, on my Wi - Fi.  Is there some network settings or firewall I'm not seting?  Would it be my server or the router or the private network?

My goal is to be able to host remote panels of my laptop while I'm on the international scene, creating using 4 G internet mobile.  Is it still feasible?

As he Turners on my router had to be put in place so that my Port is in the rage of transfer.  Also I had to disable DHCP.  Without that you cannot host behind a router.

  • DMA between host and target FPGA is not supported for this remote system.

I try to cover with my FPGA (on the cRIO-9002) of the RTO.  I have install upward of anOpen good VI reference without error, but as soon I try to access thefifo I error-63001 and the attached message wrote:

Error-63001 occurredat reference FPGA VI opened in the target - multi rate - variables - fileIO_old.vi

    Possible reasons:

NOR-RIO FPGACommunications framework: (Hex 0xFFFF09E7) DMA from the host to the FPGA targetis not supported for this remote system. Another method for controller of e/s or climatiqueLes associated with the FPGA target.

What other I/O optionsdo I need to move the data asynchronously to the RTO for the FPGA. I have triedcreating memory, but it seems that I can't write to the memory of the RTOSside.

We have also a 9012sitting around will using this cRIO rather solve this problem.

I'm very very greenwhen it comes to LabView, so I apologize if this is an easy question.

As stated in the readme of the driver NOR-RIO, DMA is not taken in charge from the host to the FPGA on the cRIO-900 x series. The cRIO-901 x supports DMA transfers between host and FPGA and FPGA to host all the cRIO-900 x series controllers only support transfers the FPGA host DMA. As a result, LabVIEW returns an error if you try to transfer using DMA controller for cRIO-900 x.

The 9012 looks like the ideal solution, you are very lucky to have additional hardware laying around

There are many photo editors that allow to resize the images, something good and some are not good. You can use Paint to resize or use the (free) product:

Acrobat CC is not compatible with MS Office 2003 and currently, we only sell Acrobat DC. However, if you opt for a subscription of Acrobat DC you can install and use Acrobat XI that is compatible with Office 2003, but only to a certain update.

Please check details of compatibility here: web browsers and applications of PDFMaker
