• Why my Drop Shadow effect has disappeared?

  If you put the text layer that has shadow top above the layer which is the cause, it will go away.

  If the effects of two layers are performing each other then you just put one on the other.  You need to go and fix it manually.  There are two ways to do this:

  (1) in the menu effects for shadows check the box that says 'layer mask hides effects '.  Then create a layer mask and simply hide the shadow where you don't want to.

  (2) put the layer with the shadow in a group and put on a mask of clipping on the group.  You can then paint in the shade.

  Stamp 3) visible, then layer mask.

• Missing shadow effects

  I use PSE 6 for mac over a network and under the local user shadow effects appear under Effects-> menu of Styles of layer, but when I connect on the network these effects do not appear.  How can I get these shadow options to see?

  Hi IL2RBs,

  I'll risk to guess that it is a permissions problem with network, with you / PSE is not allowed over-the-network access to the folder that contains the styles. It would be great if you could check where are styles and also know with your network administrator if there is no restrictions in place.

  I'm carrying a book in InDesign 5.5. The book is sent in PDF format to the Publisher of the book. The book includes about 400 pictures that many are wrapped in the text (clothing). My question is: what are the pitfalls or problems that might result if I apply a shadow to photos using InDesign, drop shadow functionality?

  I see two check boxes in the Drop Shadow Effects dialog box:

  Object mask Shadow & honors other effects of shade. I guess I want the object to knock out the shadow?

  You're probably going to want to knock out the shadow. There are times where you might want to do otherwise, but unless you are very familiar with the overprint and knockout, I would recommend to stay away.   The only trap I can think in aesthetics. Shadows are used when used subtly. To facilitate your work, instead of individually apply a shadow to your objects, you can apply a style object.   I think you want to just play with the settings of the shadow from the corner. The default angle puts the shadow to the lower right. You can move that kind of shadow is just below. Then play with the distance and the amount of fabric softener. This is a .png of Fireworks with some changed settings:

  

• Drop shadow effect is not visible

  I use CS4 for Windows and I have several great books for her, but I'm still fighting fill a simple shadow on the picture effect. No matter what I try to use the fall simple shadow fx or suggestions complex building several different layers, I never see the final effect on the photo. I even click and uncheck "Preview", but it makes no difference. The photo displayed in the window of my CS4 continues to look like the photo when I first opened it. Am I supposed to flatten layers or somehow bring together them into a single layer?

  I'm puzzled.

  I'd appreciate any help. I'm sure I'm doing something completely ignorant, but I'm willing to drive me crazy to finally resolve this issue.

  When you have 'created' the canvas, did you actually go to the Image-canvas size and expand the area of the canvas, or just fill in an area around your existing image with white?

  You must understand that the shadow appears outside the edge pixels of the layer, so if your image is taking up all the space of the canvas, the shadow will drop simply fall outside the visible area. Try to make a new layer and fill in a little box with any color, then apply the drop shadow effect, and you will see that it is not the edge of your box. The shadow on your image layer is applied the same way.

  A man holds a flashlight illuminating a girl in the front (she is a bit away from him in an open field), now the shadow of another person walks between the torch and the girl. The shadow is being cast from left to the right end of the frame, falling on the girl, too, as it moves.

  It is now much clearer. you need advice VFX before your shoot. You must have a shadow without the man, be there. I think you can go 2-way with this: shoot twice the place or go to the green screen approach. each with its own complexity and the advantages and disadvantages. I will describe the basic principles:

  Approach to location

  If you want to try to do on-site, you can:

  1. turn your scene with the man and shadow

  2. pull on the same stage without human and shadow

  3 mask man with the rotoscoping and tracking

  This might work if you have no movement in your scene. or if you have motion control of drilling that will exactly twice the same movement.

  The green screen approach

  your question - if you can touch a person out and make him a shadow on the floor - YES. It's the way I'm going to try to do - it's called a Shadow Catcher - a layer that only accepts your shadow. This might work with or without movement of the camera.

  I usually just use the base pen. I draw the object with a few clicks of the pen, fill it with whatever color, the hue value if you want, then use the settings more or less as below.

• Remove the shadow effect - I can't stop!

  So I used the shadow PSE 6 effect successfully.

  But I can't figure out how to disengage from this effect.  I started to use the Clone Stamp tool after I am done with shadow, and have now all my clone stamps shadows!

  I don't not want to shadow.  How to stop?  I looked and looked and can't see anything obvious.  Thank you.

  Select the clone tool and try a reset.
