Paragraph styles, do weird things

I'm having a strange problem that drives me bananas.

I copy and paste a document quit in of MSWord (something I've done MANY times before without problem). For some reason, the text is placed in police Didot, all uppercase, followed 50 - although I have never and would never do that style anywhere in my document.

When I tried to use the styles I've implemented for formatting the text, they do not work. Only strange Didot font style remains. I can't replace it anyway. I went through all the settings "based on" in my style, and this font (and these settings) do not appear anywhere. It's like InDesign decided, this is the default setting for all of the text and does not allow me to change it.

If I change it manually, it works, but as soon as I try to apply a style, it immediately snaps this madness of Didot.

I have never seen this before and it keeps all my work. Any ideas?

This also occurs if I try to spent in the text of the Pages. And paste without formatting is not available as an option. Don't know what else to try.

Almost all of the issues I've seen with paragraph Styles involved a rogue character Style making its undesirable magic

  • Some styles of weird para I can't understand or break...

    I have a document from someone and it comes with many styles of para and char loaded. Weird thing is when I highlight text and use shortcuts to increase line spacing (I put it in 0.5pt increments in prefs) the linespacing does not change until about three hikes during which point it jumps up to spcing of the double line or triple. Then it does increase no more after that when the increase in the number of linespacing in the toolbar or by using keyboard shortcuts.

    I measured using some text I typed in another frame in characters of the same type that is 24pt 12pt (so yes exactly double!). I thought that maybe it's because of some combination of settings/balancing frame/column combinations, so I cut out a text and put it into a new image into a new doc. same question. So I took off the Para Style, no change (as you know).

    Left me speechless... Here is a link to a simple document with a sample of the text which is made as well. I seconded it styles, but they still exist in the document.

    The fonts in the text are Century School book (or New Century schoolbook is same/simmillar and when I opened my century in InDesign suitcase has not accepted I had to replace century by century) and Calibri (ugh!).

    I can't look into your document, because I do not work on a computer where he could at the moment.

    But I guess that your paragraph style is aligned with the baseline grid.

    BTW, your method of changing text doesn't sound very professional. You MAY use paragraph and character styles. Do not manipulate the text without styles. Such a document will be get wired and cause a lot of problems to other people who have to work with this document later.

  • Why paragraph styles did change his mind during a project?

    Using CS6 (CC), I am to convert a booklet our firm designed for Kindle. Since we would cut apart all of the text, and it has been published several times in the original, I'm cut and paste into a new document, implementation of brilliant new paragraph styles and essentially creating a clean export document.

    However, some weird things happened along the way, the following:

    1. a created paragraph style is "intro text". Based on 'no paragraph style', the black value Adobe Garamond, etc, etc. It works perfectly in all of the document except the first page. When I apply the same paragraph of its text style, the text shows quite differently (bright red, Meta). No substitution showing. Can I just retype the text and try setting up from scratch, but no idea why the same paragraph style that works on all other pages does not work here? (Screenshot showing the selected type and style that works everywhere else below.)

    2. the book is indexed by section color, so the first section has all red heads/subtitles, next heads yellow/subtitles, etc. I created the yellow subtitle based on red, the color change in the "color" box in paragraph styles. Several pages in the second section, the style of Pará yellow subtitle abruptly changed his mind and refuses to do the subtitle yellow unless I have replace manually in the text box. Even if the yellow is shown in the color of the box (see example below), and although it worked perfectly for several pages, this style now refuses to act according to its parameters. However, this works perfectly if I apply it to another type of text where I don't want it to work (see example below). If the same paragraph style works differently when applied to a different text on the same page. (aaaarrrrrgh)

    Everyone knows about this problem or questions, and what did you do to solve / them?

    Thank you!

    Some of what you describe could be caused by the application of styles to characters in addition to the paragraph styles, but it also looks like there may be a few file coruption. See remove minor corruption by exporting and see if that helps.

  • paragraph styles

    without valid reason I later move to really use paragraph styles. but I encountered a small problem. the document that I'm actually has a TON of garbage styles attached to it from the word document (which has an OCR would scan...). But right now, I'm going to have this problem when I try to apply styles for titles and whatnot, but the style is applied to more than what is highlighted, probably only indesign because I'm stressing only part of a "paragraph", and it's all 'paragraph', even if it is actually just part of a title. Is there a way for the UN-paragraphize things? For things before and after should not be the same style? Mac/CS6

  • Script or a paragraph Style?

    I have an Excel worksheet with name, phone and category.

    It is true - I'm a noob InDesign - but I pick up things quickly.

    I want to format this info (more than 600 entries) in an almost "telephone directory" as put on the page.

    3 columns, "BOLD" first line, tabs: leader dashed, the phone number of regular fonts, the line category: italics.

    This link:

    The name of the company ... (555) 555-5555

    I also need to adjust the spacing between each (space) after paragraph, kerning between company name and the beginning of the «...» "(and after).

    Paragraph style does not... style entry all as the first line.

    Should I build a script?

    Thanks to anyone who takes the time to add an idea.

  • Paragraph style keeps preparing for [none].

    I have 19 pages sent me in trouble. Each is a product. Each contains information on the product. Different types of information have been put in text boxes. Each of these text boxes was given to a specific format that is used on all product pages. Several times now, the styles for the areas has been set to [none]. This causes all sorts of problems. Setting the box on each page back to the desired paragraph style is not very difficult, but the process removes any great scripts, indices and options of the ball.

    What can I do to prevent reset paragraph [None] muse styles? There is a lot of work to keep setting things back.

    Thanks for the reply. It turns out that there is a bug in the software that displays when you use 'copy the text formatting to all breakpoints' on a framework. In my case, it would be left to zero styles None when the Muse file has been saved and reloaded. I use a work around for now.

  • Paragraph styles apply bad

    Hello. I have a strange problem here that I've never met before. Somehow my paragraph styles do not apply to the right. In the options, everything seems fine, but when I apply a certain style it turns into a bad (ultralight instead of ordinary for example) font style. When I try to apply a different style of paragraph after that they can also be programmed to the ultralight, even if they were working properly before styling that paragraph with the certainty of preset. If I change the font manually style to what it is supposed to be, the "+" - sign only appears next to the paragraph styles in the paragraph styles. Styles of police, UltraLight and the style of play seem to be considered compliant with the paragraph style.

    I created several passages until I encountered this error and they have no change, and display right. There is also the number "+" - sign next to their paragraph in the window styles paragraph styles. I can also change the paragraph style in these paragraphs, and nothing strange happens. It works very well in these frameworks of related texts. So it could be a problem with linked texts executives newly created, I suppose.

    I have two styles of paragraph for each goal, one for a dark and the other for a light background. They are named as follows: "[purpose] (black) ' and (brilliant) [purpose]", so that they begin with the same word pairs (I don't know, but maybe that's the key?).» None of my paragraph styles is actually St. to UltraLight. As I wrote, I had no problems with these styles two days ago, when I created them or yesterday. They began to occur today.

    I hope someone can help me. Thank you in advance.

    First thing to check is if a character Style is applied.

  • Cannot find the paragraph style, which is apparently in use

    Hello.

    I'm working on a document with the text that I have imported the word. After you have applied all my character and paragraph styles, I check to see if there are styles original Word still in use. Can I do a search/replace for those still persistent and change them to mine. There is a paragraph style, named normal, what don't get me. It seems to be in use - when I try to remove it, he asks what style should be used to replace it. It shows also upward on the Panel of cross references when I try to create a new cross reference. I tried to change its definitions to something with the big guy and a strong color, so I could find it easily on the pages, but not luck. When I use find/replace to the style, I get the message "cannot find match". I even tried the police search of the style, I do not use on my styles, but nothing appears. Am I missing something?

    Thank you.

  • Question of paragraph style

    I seem to be having a weird problem with paragraph styles.

    I have a heading style linked to the h1 in big orange text (Tenso Black, pt 24) tag.

    I also have a paragraph style related to the p tag for my body to the black text (Cantarell, 14pt,).

    My question so that, despite the h1 style definition and subsection of style that are obviously not to be completely different, the text always in style h1.  In fact, the image, I enclose below I have removed the completely normal h1 style and the style of tag p (and you can see the style settings clearly Mbbls, black, 14 PT...) but if I highlight text and apply this style turns into orange text (as you can see to the right of the image).

    If I delete the paragraph style (so I have no style), and then type the text in Cantarell, black 14pt, etc., as soon as I save the style to the p, the orange text changes tag.  If I copy the text of the paragraph Canterell in a new text box, it always sticks orange...

    Is this a bug or am I doing something stupid?

    textissue.png

    Hello

    Well, I think I've sorted it.  You mentioned character styles, and Yes, there is a defined character style (the text in orange).  It is this style of character that would repeal all paragraph styles.  I deleted the character style and now I can apply and implement paragraph styles.  That said, I've not really (knowingly) implemented this style of character.

    See you soon.

  • Problem affecting the existing paragraph style

    Hi all!

    I have searched all morning and can't find a lot of good documentation on the use of existing scripts paragraph styles to HAVE. I know that you can build a live, but more specifically, I want to add in the tabs and don't see this as an option to add paragraph styles in one of the refs to javascript.

    I do an "export log" that captures the version, date, time, artist name/layers assigned to help our team of quality control. My problem is that any new text added to the box ignores existing paragraph styles, and I do not see so he can apply what I have in the file.

    I can find the style, so I don't know it exists, and I can also draw the text box, so I think that these paths are correct and working, it's just the applyTo seemingly does not. Here is my code below:

    //get the textBox with the sign off content
    exportLogText = docRef.textFrames.getByName("RT_Signoff");
    //add the sign off text
    exportLogText.contents += "v. " + versionLetter + "\t" + theDate + "\t" + timeStamp + "\tExport by: " + username + "\tLayers: " + layersExported;
    exportLogText.contents += "\r"
    //identify the "Export_Log" paragraph style that already exists in the AI doc
    var paraStyle = docRef.paragraphStyles.getByName("Export_Log");
    for (ps = 0; ps < exportLogText.paragraphs.length; ps++){
        paraStyle.applyTo(exportLogText.paragraphs[ps], true);
    }
    redraw();

    Once it hits the applyTo line, the script stops. I found similar posts claiming this code should work, so I don't know what I'm missing! Any help is appreciated.

    I found a similar code here:a paragraph style for blocks of text in the document

    It's really a matter of aesthetics, but I can't stand the text to look like this:

    issue1.PNG

    When he could look like this!

    issue2.PNG

    Looks like it was a problem with my file which was causing the anomaly, not the script. Things seem to be working now! Thanks for the input guys!

  • Not applying paragraph styles does not correctly

    I don't know even how to describe this problem except that... weird.

    For example: I put a style particular to 21 PT 22 PT. leading. When I apply this style to a paragraph, it sets the text to 42/44 - twice as big. Even with a heading style. I updated PT. 41 and it comes out to pt 82. It does this for all my styles. The '+' is not appear on any of them, this isn't a matter of substitution.

    Has anyone else seen elsewhere? I'm getting nowhere attempting this nail.

    TIA

    The text has been transformed? This will mess up the paragraph styles. Do not apply to the size of the game. The paragraph style will be applied, but then the transformation will also be applied.

  • ID CC 2015 crashes as soon as I (try to) apply the paragraph style to the text.

    I work on a Mac Pro (mid-2009), OS X 10.10.4, 16 GB of RAM

    Original hard drive is 1 TB (where applications are installed), second drive (designated as working drive, and where all the work files are housed) is 2 TB.

    Currently subscribe to Adobe CC 2015, using InDesign with last update

    I have been working for several days on a long paper (paper) and have developed 12 paragraph styles, using two fonts - Garamond first Pro and Helvetica Neue LT and the document has facing pages.

    Yesterday, my client (the author) has asked all text flow on the odd pages, for illustrations on all pages, so I did all the text boxes thread directly downward of pages on the right (odd pages).

    The first three chapters were style before I changed the threading of text box. Now, when I open the document and begin to apply styles to paragraph for the rest of the text (nine more chapters, which automatically adopted the style of main text as soon as I stuck in the newly-threaded text boxes), ID crashes when I highlighted a section of text and click a paragraph style.

    I checked the permissions and preferences. The only thing I can think is from the document from scratch.

    Any other suggestions?

    Thread the text boxes only on odd pages cause the problem, since it does not have facing pages?

    Thank you.

    There could be corruption in the document.

    Save the document with IDML and reopen the IDML in InDesign.

  • I've updated all paragraph styles in my site, but the code is not generating of heading and paragraph tags.  Help!

    Try to increase the SEO on my site of Muse.  I didn't know I could implement paragraph styles when I first built the site.  Just went and built styles but the generated HTML map includes all the text in the img tags instead of the header/paragraph tags.  Help!

  • The font color do not apply on a paragraph style

    Hello

    I try to change color on a paragraph style, and it won't change. I try another color, another paper, same thing. So, it's a software problem. Not a file. I delete InDesign and re-install. I fix the permission with disk utility and Cocktail. I restart the computer. I have reset PRAM.  I run the last ID CC 2014 on Yosemite. No problem since the update. Do you have a solution for me? Thank you in advance.

    If you select the entire title is an applied character style? The character style must be set to [none]. What you are showing can also occur via a style nested inside the paragraph style.

  • Where is the paragraph style tools in Indesign CC2014?

    Hello! I just started to use IDs through creative cloud on a new computer (using CC CS6 for two years), and the installer gave me rather than CS6 CC2014. So it is a question only on CC2014.

    Where is the window paragraph styles? Specifically, how can I edit, create and organize the paragraph styles, and how do I get a window up on the main screen with all stated styles? All these things were easy to find in CS6, but I can't find them in CC2014. The only thing I get (and with a bit of customization). is a drop-down list on the main toolbar, which allows me to choose from among the existing options on an existing document.

    There is no option of paragraph Windows Styles > Styles.

    There is no option under Type of paragraph Styles.

    The only paragraph window that appears is designed for text editing as you go along, don't not to apply styles.

    Using the options all point me back them to the entrance for CS6 and tell me to go to Type > paragraph Styles (which does not exist).

    I can't get a window up on the main screen to instantly apply styles in a list. I only get this drop, which has no other options.

    Can someone tell me some updated guidance or explain where all paragraph options are and how do I use them? If not, can I go back to CS6? It was easy and intuitive on the front, and now it's not...

    Thank you!

    Nothing has changed on the styles. It's exactly the same thing as CS6. Perhaps you need to restore your preferences.
