Password protect a folder in the Finder?

I want to protect certain folders on my desk of passers-by. Is it possible to require a password to open a file on an Office Open in the Finder?

There are various third-party applications that can encrypt files or "hide". Nothing built in El Capitan, however.

  • How can I protect my folder on the external drive?

    I don't see a clear answer to this question online. I want to protect a folder on my external hard drive which has some personal data. I have to protect the whole disc, just a folder + subfolders. I see that the 3rd party software programs box password protect a folder, but when uninstall you them you may lose the ability to access again if you aren't careful, and they aren't full evidence for someone who is computer savvy and I really want to see this data.

    I watched a video on here EFS: EFS but it is a senseless video and provided no help to understand how it works. I created a folder to the test and does what it says. The name of the folder turned green so I know he did something, and it prompted me to create a key with password and save it, which I did. However, I can always freely open that folder and see the content, so anyone who has access to my computer is able to view that as easily as any other folder. Don't ask a key or password or anything like that. No sense for me...

    I need to a single folder (and subfolders) on my drive to be protected, encrypted, whether, for other people cannot access it even if they steal my external drive and connect it to another computer. I don't understand why it is so hard to find something that can do this and how to do it.

    If you enable encryption by file (or folder) with this option, which cannot be done because it is encrypted specifically with a hash of your account.  It also means that even if a system admin force - reset your password, the hash is invalidated and files that have been encrypted in this way will be unavailable.

  • How to password protect a folder

    I want the password protect a folder that contains several excel files.

    This question would be better displayed in the Windows topic given that it relates to the definition of the permissions on a folder.

    Here is a link to a page that explains the definition of permissions on folders and files for Windows XP:

    Hope that helps!

  • Drag files from a folder on the docking station to a folder in the finder (El Capitan)

    We have recently improved Mavericks in El Capitan at work and I noticed some lost (apparently) features. Is no longer, I can click on my downloads on my dock folder and drag a file into a folder in the Finder. When I try to do it now, nothing happens, regardless of the file type.

    It is a small annoyance, but it was very convenient I wanted to download a file and do not have to navigate to the folder that is specific to each time. I often deal with lots of images and files on a single task, so it's much faster to send them all to my downloads and grab them off the Dock since she ordered chronologically downloads it.

    Someone has the same problem and have a solution?

    (Card: OS X El Capitan, Version 10.11.6, iMac 27 inches, end of 2013, 3.5 GHz Intel Core i7, 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3, 500 GB, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 775 M 2048 MB)

    What happens if you try to drag the file in the downloads folder in your user/Home folder?

  • Folder in the Finder has no arrow click on contents of the folder see the

    I just change the contents of a folder in the Finder.  When I finished, I see that the folder icon has no arrow on his left, on which you click to display the contents of the folder without having to open the folder.  It is also true for all folders in the folder in question.

    How to restore the arrow click on content enable the folder to display in the Finder?

    Change the ' sort by ' votes to zero, i.e.

    Finder > view > sort by > no

    I don't know if this behaviour is a bug or a feature, but it intrigues many users.

  • Open a folder in the Finder?

    Hello

    I had the script below in a .jsx file, it was located in the "Adobe Photoshop CC 2015/settings presets/Scripts" and it worked perfectly.

    Now for some unknown reason - it won't open the file hardcoded in the finder

    If something has changed in a previous update, which makes this useless script?

    Any ideas how I now just open a folder in the finder, directly from a script?

    Thank you in advance.

    var f = file ("Applications/files/Photoshop\ Tuts\ and\ Plugins Plugins/Photoshop\ /'");

    f.Execute ();

    If this is what has been returned then it should work.

    var f = Folder("/Applications/Files/Photoshop_Tuts_and_Plugins/Photoshop_Plugins");

    {if (f.Exists)}

    f.Execute ();

    } else {}

    Alert ("file has not exist\nPlease check your way!");

    I want to use my Lightroom 5 to index my slide collection architects who are now safely scanned on my new Mac in the images folder in the Finder. Previously I had successfully started putting these in Lightroom, but decided to change the format of deposit and deleted (I think) all these previous efforts of Lightroom. On my computer, now I would like to, but when I open Lightroom to try to import them from my computer, the Destination Lightroom Panel does not appear. What I am doing wrong?

    The Destination Panel does not appear? Try right click on one of the other names of Panel on the right side of the import dialog box and select Destination.

  • Wish of blackBerry Smartphones that I could password protect BB while in the Holster ONLY

    I would love to see RIM put up-to-date, or perhaps a third-party seller 'improve' the security options available on our BB. Here's what I'd like to see:

    The ability to enable protection by password, with a timeout of "never" (currently 1 hour is the maximum), but allow "Pocket Holster lock.

    Here's my reasoning: around the House, when my BB is not in my hand, so I leave degaine on a table, counter or in a base charger. I am not concerned about security in my house. If I "lose" it, I'm not worried. When I leave the House, I got the case. That's when I want password protected. If I lose, I'll be in a world of pain.

    Can you help me and others I am sure RIM? Software developers?

    Thank you for reading this and offer you! (BTW... I am aware of the apps like smartguard and others, but really wish someone could resolve what RIM has provided with their operating system)

  • I have a problem when going into Firefox, it is password protected and I forgot the password I can't get anywhere.

    When I click on my Firefox I immediately get this message, (image). The problem is that I forgot my password and I can't even click on settings to disable this option, I can't get anywhere.

    You have never installed this extension:

    https://addons.Mozilla.org/firefox/addon/master-password-timeout/
    or is this one:
    https://addons.Mozilla.org/firefox/addon/master-password/
    or this one:
    https://addons.Mozilla.org/firefox/addon/master-password-timeout-UPD/

    In order to bypass the extensions, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode. First of all, make sure that Firefox is completely closed and does not appear in the Manager of tasks (Ctrl + Shift + Esc). In particular, make sure that firefox.exe is no longer running on the processes tab. Or you could do that after restarting Windows.

    Hold down the SHIFT key when you start Firefox.

    A small dialog box should appear. Click on 'Start mode safe' (not update).

    Then you can go to the Add-ons page and remove this extension. Either:

    • CTRL + SHIFT + a
    • "3-bar" menu button (or tools) > Add-ons

    In the left column, click Extensions. Find it on the right side, then click on remove. This should take effect when you exit Firefox then start it again normally.

    Success?
