Pavilion 15: Conflict McAfee - Defender

Hello

My wife bought a laptop 15-p076 Pavilion with Windows 8.1. (Prodnbr: J1S86EA #UUW,)

Number of series: (personal information)

She would like to replace the pre-installed McAfee SW with the free Windows Defender security so you do not have to pay an annual subscription of McAfee.  I tried to activate Defender according to HP Support Assistant help but I get the message «this application has been disabled...» Close the "."  Creating and connecting to a account administrators as well as McAfee deactvation and repeat the procedure do not help.

Please notify. I would prefer not to uninstall McAfee, until I see that the Defender works on the laptop.

Kind regards

Brunnich's Guillemot

Hello

You will need to uninstall Mcafee to enable Windows Defender. Windows will appear a message immediately after uninstalling mcafee to market the Defender.

Use the Mcafee removal tool...

http://download.McAfee.com/Products/Licensed/cust_support_patches/MCPR.exe

After the restart to search a defender and activate it if not yet in the market.

  • Windows Security Center won't turn on!

    Hello
I recently tried to download something on which my McAfee jumped up to tell me that Trojans had been detected and removed. Needless to say, I deleted that has been downloaded.
Since that incident, my Microsoft Security Center was off and on again, whereas before it had worked, even with my McAfee.
Also had problems with Windows Defender, which does not at all, even though reading some other questions in the forum, I summised that he is a McAfee-Defender compatibility issue and followed the steps recommended to turn off defender.
Downloaded SUPERAntiSpyware and am currently running so far, no threat detected.
I am at a loss to know what to do now to unravel the Security Center!
I am running Windows Vista Home Premium.
    Help, please!

    Hi Steve,.

Thanks for posting on the Microsoft answers Forums.

You please try and run a restore of the system to a date and a time before when you installed the program prompted by McAfee to say you had a virus.

To restore the operating system to an earlier point in time, follow these steps:

    1. click on Start, type System Restore in the Search box, and then click System Restore in the programs list. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type your password or click continue.

    2. in the System Restore dialog box, click choose a different restore point, and then click Next.

    3. in the list of restore points, click a restore point created before you started having the problem, and then click Next.

    4. click on Finish.

All the steps listed above comes from the following article: (feel free to refer to this article if you want more details.)

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/936212

Please post back and let us know if you could use Windows Media Center after you do a system restore to a date and time before the error.

  • cannot access the internet wireless or wired. Not a router problem.

I'm running windows vista on a dell xps m1330 laptop computer.

My computer recently went crazy; blue screen came, said something about a dump of memory and rebooted. I was then invited to enter the product key windows again and re save my copy of windows. It worked well, but since I can't access the internet. I tried to use wireless and wired connections, but it just says: "unidentified network: local only.

I tried watching drivers etc. but am not too computer savvy and nothing seems obviously wrong. I ran a mcafee, defender of windows and malware bites scans and nothing shows.

Oh and certainly nothing to do with the internet/router, I run several other computers with no problems.

I feel like a fool now I locked my firewall when the computer crashed and I forgot to turn it off!

  • 2nd problem I have is Windows Vista, Windows Defender & MCAFEE.

My biggiest at this stage it is above mentioned. The problem I have is whenever windows is a updated and downloads of updates of their software and restart the computer, I lose access to MCAFEE. I can't access it using the icon on the desktop or the start menu. I get an error msg that bed the point mcshell.exe that this shortcut refers has been changed or moved, that this shortcut no longer works correctly. He then asks if I want to delete this shortcut, or not? I contacted MCAFEE to find someone at the tip to help solve the problem. I had a rep help me solve this problem, so I thought. It's a pain, because I have to redownload MCAFEE whenever this happens. MCAFEE has advised me to switch to their premium to $89.99 package so someone on their end can remotely check if the computer I'm using has virus. I said no. I can't afford it. Windows Defender will also result in a conflict with MCAFEE. I tried to disable Defender, but I guess I did not right. Help, please

    Hello

What about McAfee landing forced and switch to something that causes less trouble and best free protection?

Use the McAfee removal tool so that there will be no harm because of the remains.

Download - SAVE - go to where you put it-click on - RUN AS ADMIN.

Here's what I use and recommend:

Avast and Prevx proved extremely reliable and compatible with everything I threw at them.
Microsoft Security Essentials and Prevx have also proven very reliable and compatible.

Avast Home free - stop any shields is not necessary except away from Standard, Web and network is working.

    Prevx - Home - free

    Windows Firewall

Windows Defender (is not necessary if you use MSE)

    Protected IE - mode

IE 8 - SmartScreen filter WE (IE 7 phishing filter)

I also IE always start with asset if filter InPrivate IE 8.
(Sometimes you have to temporarily turn off with the little icon to the left of the + bottom right of IE)

Avast - stop home - free - all shields you do no need except leave Standard, Web and network running.
(Double-click the blue icon - details look OK. - upper left Shields - those that you do not cancel).
    http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html

Or use Microsoft Security Essentials - free (Avast or MSE but not both)
    http://www.Microsoft.com/Security_Essentials/

Prevx works well alongside MSE or Avast

Prevx - Home - small, fast, exceptional CLOUD free protection, working with other security programs. It comes
a scan only, VERY EFFICIENT, if it finds something to come back here or use Google to see how to remove.

Also get Malwarebytes - free - use as scanner only. If you ever suspect malware, and that would be unusual with
Avast and Prevx running except a low occasional (not much), updated cookie and then run it as
a scanner. I have a lot of scanners and they never find anything of note that I started to use this configuration.

  • Is it possible to run windows defender and mcafee Security Center?

Right now my windows Defender is disabled. If they we're running both would be conflicting firewalls?

McAfee should turn off WD because it contains the same properties as WD and there would be a conflict. Give up the WD. I doubt you could get there anyway.

Yes, that's why. Microsoft Security Essentials, AVG, Norton, and
McAfee all turn them off Defender. It's good, not bad. Not only is at - it
potential conflict, but there is no reason to have both. they are all
basically have something very similar to the built-in Defender.
and both running at once will be your performance level and create the
risk of problems that are contrary to each other.

also try to stop a web sight to come whenever I start the computer. Cannot delete because the Defender is not on.

It is not correct that you can't remove it without defender. Use
MSCONFIG, which is part of Windows.

  • Windows Defender is legitimate and can be used with McAfee?

I never noticed before Windows Defender and do not download it.  So I wonder if my copy is legitimate or harmful.  And I use McAfee antivirus.  If it is legitimate, do I use it with McAfee?

I noticed in the Panel of the icon next to the time in the lower right corner, but it has now disappeared.  It was a symbol of an exclamation mark, then he had a rotating blue circle saying it was scanning after that I started the scan McAfee because I was not familiar with Windows Defender.  But he finished what he was doing and it has now disappeared.  I just wanted to know if it was true or harmful, and if there was all I had to do about it.

    Thank you!

If you use Vista, Windows Defender is part of the system. It comes with it. It can not be uninstalled either.
    operating
McAfee has his own defender and run 2 defenders in the same machine allows to create conflicts. McAfee is supposed to close Windows Defender.
That should explain what you saw, i.e. exclamation mark and others.

It is ok. You have no problem in this regard.

  • Pavilion dv6700: Pavilion driver update conflict?

Good day my friends well informed most HP! Yet once again, I come to you with a bit of a quandry on a laptop of a friend of mine. She has a HP Pavilion dv6700. He is currently running Win. Vista. I'm going to the HD format and install a fresh and activated win version. 7 ultimate. My question is: although I found most, if not all the necessary drivers listed in the "Download drivers" section, I want to know for sure if there is a conflict with the drivers in the new operating system? Any opinions? Thanks again, for any response from your knowledge "wiser"!

    Hello:

    I have a dv6700 (dv6810us) and run W7 x 64 on it very well.

The only thing I can't confirm works is the microphone and webcam.  My dv6700 does not have a webcam and I have never tested the microphone.

Most of the Vista drivers will work on W7.

  • If the window Defender performs the same work as McAfee Total Security, why is it when I uninstall the McAfee I get a message that I don't have anti-virus protection?

    Above says it all.

    Above says it all.

They do * not * do the same thing. Windows Defender is an anti-spyware program only. When you uninstall McAfee, you have p anti-spyware [protection, but no anti-spyware protection.]

Moreover, in my opinion, McAfee is one of the worst of the available security programs.  For an anti-virus program, I recommend eSet NOD32, if you are willing to pay for it. If you want a free anti-virus, I recommend one (do not run more than one) of the following three:

    Avira AntiVir
    Avast
    Microsoft Security Essentials

  • AVIRA with DEFENDER vs MCafee

AVIRA works wth Windows Defender? How they compare with efficiency and functionality?
    Dave D.

    Hello

You can use Avira as one scan on demand (must see their support for installation instructions) but only
Prevx really works alongside another antivirus. Windows Defender will work along side many antivirus products
However McAfee and others will be out there.

Remember if you decide to remove an antivirus/antispyware/security product, you should secure the withdrawal of the constructor
    tool and/or special instructions.

  • Conflict between McAfee and Microsoft Security Essentials?

I installed Microsoft Security Essentials on a system that had McAfee.  I thought I had the features on McAfee off the coast.  I started a full scan with MSE.  He locks up in Microsoft/Installer, which is where McAfee says that he kept finding three horses of Troy, ZeroAccess.ee, ZeroAccess.eh and generic.DX!12536d125737.  I finished the scan, but now at startup, Windows says that it has identified a problem and you need to restart in one minute.  I discovered that when I made off McAfee, it was only 15 minutes, therefore, it was still running when MSE was running her scans.  Now all McAfee services are turned off, but the problem persists.  I guess that both programs are in conflict.  The one minute message that the computer will be restarted lights Mode safe as well.  I did a restore (Vista) system and still have the problem. I guess I should remove one of the security programs but do not know what should be my plan of action.  Any help?
