  Yes, you can keep the old version of Windows on any machine if you wish. You can upgrade a machine and then when it is TOTALLY satisfied with Windows 10 you can improve other machines later. Please note: you have 1 yeart free update of July 29, 2015. After that you have to pay.

  I don't know if there is a limit to how many times where you can upgrade, but the upgrade to ESXi 4.1 to 5.1 and 5.5 is supported and works (I just tested it in my lab).

  I understand that you want to add more space to install programs and don't know how to do this. You can attach an external hard drive or insert a memory storage card. Windows 10 allows you to change when your applications are installed. Here is a link to windowscentral.com to guide you through this process.  How to install Windows 10 apps on an external drive.
