PC specs for CS5 using "Non-Techy.

My head is swimming with all the talk of tech on the best configuration to run Photoshop CS5.  I've read all the articles and know a lot of you technicians are in disagreement on certain specific points, but there are MANY of us there photographers who use photoshop for portrait retouching, creation of composite, picture banners, etc., and no 3D or video/games but rqmnts are ignorant about these details.  Of course, I have a suggestion on the purchase of a new PC for someone who does not know how to build them.  (I know how to add more RAM...!) ?

I went to NewEgg and on the power of desktop search, see lots of choices that I don't know how to fill.  For example:

1 CPU Type: according to me, dual core, that's what I need so I should choose Core 2 Duo; Core Duo or Pentium Dual-Core?  (maybe all the same?)

2 CPU Speed: I think 3.2 GHz min claimed that I read.

3. type GPU/VPU: help!  Too many choices.

4 memory capacity: I think I'll settle on 8 GB initially so should I choose DDR, DDR2 or DDR3?

5 disc HARD ability: I think I'll go 1 TB, but I read a suggestion of a 3 x 1 TB-where can I determine this? store us a lot of pictures (photography of the school).

6. I know that I need a 2nd hard drive which I think is for a disc to work (this is a mistake I sometimes get on my current pc).  I like the suggestion of a 1 x 60 min GB SSD, so where do clarify this?  Should I buy separately and watch a YouTube video to see how to install?

7. I read to have 3 hard drives, application/storage/scratch.  Do I really need all 3 for my use or 2 above would be good?  I use an external and online for backup storage so especially focused on what I have to do my job at the momemt.

Maybe there is not a computer that I can buy, but maybe someone could recommend a basic model, and I'll find a YouTube to learn how to add the rest.

Thanks a lot.  I appreciate of course someone who comes down here in the world of the ignorant and help me out.

You are welcome and thank you in return.

I am an engineer in technology career, but I tend to avoid the real nitty gritty gathering different parts, since there are companies like Dell, who are doing a darn good job with the design of the system.

With the purchase and the 'reconfiguation' of a machine used/given to nine, you take system integration tasks yourself (compared to buying a new turnkey system), but he is nowhere near as involved as an accumulation of parts of system.  You take on the responsibility to replace/repair parts you buy if they have to go wrong, but many do not have their own guarantees (for example, new discs come with their own guarantees).

To answer your questions...  Bascially you plug the drives SATA 0, 1, 2... Cables/connectors provided on the motherboard, plug the provided power cables, mount disks in their tasks and you're ready to go.  Things may become just a little delicate if the workstation does not come with all the plastic parts who are used to mount the drives in their spots and if you want to mount a 3rd internal you should put it where a second optical drive would go.  You can order these parts from Dell, but I made several corner brackets for small cubes of rigid packaging foam discs, which also has the added benefit of reduced vibration and noise.  Simply ensuring that most of the chassis in the car is open to the air for cooling.

Once installed, there are BIOS menus in these precision workstations that you access by pressing a key during startup, and they can be used to configure the RAID array, which is not too difficult.  But while she can really improve performance, RAID is not strictly necessary.  If you have used, for example, only two drives (I have three), you can just configure them as C: and D:.  You don't want at least two letters of readers (physically separated readers) for better performance of Photoshop.  You, for example, your operating system and files programs, etc. on the C: drive, then you'd be free to use D: for data files and using Photoshop scratch.  With or without a RAID C: drive, Windows 7 just charge right on, no problem.

Here is a picture of the inside of a Precision T5400 showing the locations of the car bays, which pivot on for the insertion of the disc.

It is a RAID configuration screens...

If you should get one of these machines T5400, I'll be happy to help you with the details of the installation, since I've been there myself.

Yes, there are risks involved in overclocking.  The material you specified is up to the task, however.

This is not the forum for how to do this. This means really is making some changes to the BIOS settings and keeping the temperature of the processor i7 specifications during execution of programs of extreme stress (LinX or Intel Burn Test) for an hour. Be sure to get a huge heatsink for your processor. All I can do is point here and you'll have to decide if this is something you might want to know how to do.

  • Another post "this set of operation will be OK for CS5.5?

This again is another question "is the computer I want to be good enough for CS5.5." Before I ask you to please forgive my ignorance and the length of this post. I am new to having to worry about hardware. In the past any decent PC meets my needs, but I find that this is the case I now need to edit video.

So I'll start with my special needs. I need portability. I am a student and directing a summer camp. In my role at the camp, I identified the need to improve our hardware promotional camp, and that's where video editing comes into play. I will be filming and editing of several short promotional films and a couple of short documentary style using DSLR footage and perhaps a small camcorder or two. After much research and play with some free trial software, I have it set on CS5.5, but there is that one problem, my computer is not up to the task. Conveniently enough, my current computer has seen better days, and it's time to spend anyway, so I was searching and shopping around trying to find a suitable computer. That portability is a must and I can't afford a decent desktop and a laptop (and even if I could it would be boring data transfer back), I've been looking at laptops. It seems that any mobile off - the shelf that is well suited to run adobe isn't really all that portable. Of course, you can carry it much easier that a computer desk, but you can't expect to get a full day in the life of the battery out of it, are not a reasonable weight to carry around the creation (my point is that a computer 17 "laptop is out). I did some digging, and after reading a lot of posts on this forum and a lot of information from other sources, I think I came up with a solution. I am looking for admission in any people of enthusiasts see potential problems with my idea, and for dell sales representatives are not tech savvy, so I thought it was a good place to discover how well adobe would go on my set - up proposed (I'm not a pro and won't be of feature films (, edition, so I don't think that I need the same performance that your desktop wearing I have just need to perform well with as few hold ups as possible).

    Here's what I came with:

    Dell XPS 14z:

      • Intel core i-7 2640 M (2.8 GHz, with "turbo boost" up to 3.50 GHz)
      • 8 GB Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM
      • 750 GB SATA, HDD 7200 RPM
      • NVIDIA Geforce 520 M 1 GB graphics card
      • The only information about the screen resolution I could find on the site web of Dell were "true 720 p HD display" after reading a few reviews, I found the specs are lower that the minimum recommended by Adobe, I forget exactly what they are.

If this computer is no longer that I never needed for my needs no video editing. On paper, it's a nice small laptop, a little expensive ($1300!), but they can be had at a very reasonable price ($700 - $800) refurbished Dell online workshop. None-the-less, I see several problems with this configuration.

First is the screen: it is not enough. Which is easily solved using an external monitor, and you can get a pretty decent screen off tiger direct for less than $200. I can tolerate a video editing at a desk, I need portability to other applications.

Second is the hard drive. Reading this forum, I understand that editing with a single hard disk can slow things down a bit. I was wondering how big a deal it really is for the occasional Editor? There are adapters that allow you to place a second hard drive, where the optical drive is in this laptop. If necessary, I intend to put a second 750 GB 7200 rpm HARD drive where is the optical drive. Problem solved, right? Did anyone see any problem with this idea? My next question on the subject of the hard drive is: how would a third hard drive really benefit me? And data transfer using a with a USB 3.0 external HARD drive connection be fast enough to be a viable option for a third drive? Anyway I could take an appropriate hard drive and caddy for a little less than $175 and $100 for a USB 3.0 external HARD drive to be used as a third drive if necessary.

The third potential problem is the RAM. It seems there are a lot of opinions out there about how much is enough. 8 GB is enough? According to the website of intel, this particular processor is compatible with up to 16 GB of RAM, and after searching the forums I found a few cases of people expand their RAM on this computer to 16 GB with no problems. I understand that I can replace the 2 x 4 GB current implemented with 1x4Go + 1X8GB or 2x8GB to give a total of 12 or 16 GB of RAM. Is it necessary or even beneficial?  8 GB would be more than enough for anything else I do, and since I have some experience with video editing I thought I would ask those who know. Need an upgrade of RAM? By using this configuration, I could update the RAM 12 GB for about $100 and 16 GB for about $200.

Finally, the graphics card that is provided with this computer is not on the list of cards recommended by Adobe. I understand that this is because it only supports CUDA, how much of an issue is it? I'll be able to edit video without recommended card effectively?

The point of all numbers is as follows: 800 + 200 + 175 + 100 = 1, 275. $ 1275ish seems to me that I could get a very reasonable video editing set up which is always portable. It is less than the price of the tile on these laptops and much less than a Mac book pro, which is the world's first recommendation when I mention that I want to use the computer for video editing. This looks like a very reasonable price for a laptop with a processor intel 2.8 GHz i7, two 750 GB 7200 rpm HDD, 12 GB of RAM, and an external monitor when I want to sit and change. Am I delusional thinking it would go well with CS5.5?

So I guess the point is the following. Life is any compromise, since I need portability and I am not a professional (just an anal consumer with high standards :), I am willing to trade a little performance for improved portability of video editing. I want the opinion of those who have experience using CS5.5 with different layouts, my proposed set-up seems like a reasonable compromise? Improvements are still needed? They would be sufficient to provide a reasonable editing experience? All the other tips (not to mention than buying a desktop computer or a computer wicked expensive 17 "laptop which weighs two to three times more expensive and chews through the battery life)?

Thank you for sticking with it and give me any comments. We appreciate it!

    Benson,

Trying to stick with your original objectives and I think I can see where you're going, I have some tips and suggestions...

-Since the SLR CAMERAS and camcorders (I guess as ACHDV) are very difficult codecs; I suggest that you consider only Intel QM 32nm processors (i.e. i7 2670QM w / 4 carrots + hyperthreading); Having twice the nuclei is HUGE for CS5/5.5

-Suggest that go with a 14 "display 1600 x 900 for a good compromise between size, weight and cost

-A video installation of nVidia level "gamers" will allow the massively useful EMT be put on (carrots GPU cuda)

-8 GB of RAM will work; of course the 16 GB would allow for faster burns to DVD, but I don't feel that to be a need

-Supports for the conversion of optical Bay NewModeUS are asesome to add a 2.5 "2nd if you need to change on the fly, but since you said you don't need this capability I suggest you get the external drive USB3.0 to 7200 RPM bigger, more formidable, you can plug in when you change. Of course a RAID 0 (disk 2) peripheral USB 3.0 would be even more ideal, but it can also break your budget.

-Dell Alienware M14x meets all of these criteria; Yes, it will be a little heavier. Yes, it will be more expensive. But, more important still, it will get the job done. Any laptop ' thin, light and smooth "and which includes the current more little line of Macbook Pro won't be so IMHO.

    Kind regards

    Jim

  • What are the copyright rules for the use of the clip art images in Microsoft Word?

I guess you can't use them in an article you want to sell, for example, a book or a work of art.  You can use them in a binder for a seminar (you get paid to run the seminary, but do not sell workbooks).

    Clip art.

You can use clip art in your projects and missions of the school.

    2.

You can use clip art to create a company logo.

  • Serial number not working not not for CS5 Design Premium

I downloaded the English version for CS5 Design Premium. The original product is (partially) in Finnish, which is no longer available. I suspect that this is perhaps why the series is not accepted, but I don't know where I could download the product of the Finnish language is. Downloads have InDesign in Finnish, for example, available for individual download, but my serial do not work on individual downloads no more.

The platform I used when I purchased the CS5 design package is Mac os x, now I have Windows, which could be the sescond be reason why the serial number does not work. I was not able to find information on how to buy, for example, the change of os x for windows. Premium Design license was pretty expensive and I would use the program again.

Two factors, the language and platform will have an impact or a serial number will work them.  In both cases, the resolution is not available through Adobe, because they provide no platform exchanges of older products - or they sell older products.

Current Raw plugin is the 6.7.1.340 version

What updates should I do to be able to open my raw files?

the 7 d mark ii is not the same as the 7 d.

the mark ii has cr 8.7 or better and ps cs5 can not be updated beyond cr 6.7.

your options are to continue to use the dng converter or upgrade ps (cs6 or better).

    Ok thank you

Have you created an EMU config file to save the. OST /. With EMU PST file? If this isn't the case, would this then, that every time that you start Outlook, PST/OST files is created (preparation for first use Outlook)?

The best way is to redirect your. OST /. PST file in the network or the user's home directory. (so if possible, try to find out why Outlook ignores your redirection)

  • What is the last camera raw update for CS5?

I would like to know the last camera raw update for CS5 support a6000 Sony raw files. I also need to know how to upgrade the plugin.

The latest version of Camera Raw that you can use with Photoshop CS5's Camera Raw 6.7. To get support for your camera, you need Camera Raw 8.4 or newer. You have several choices:

1 use DNG converter 8.4 or newer to create DNG copies of your raw files and modify those in Photoshop CS5.

2 subscribe to the plan of photography creative cloud and to get the latest Photoshop and Lightroom.

    3. Add Lightroom to your workflow by buying a stand-alone license for Lightroom 5.

How can I download updates for CS5 Extended when I get the error message "this serial number is not for a product calling it"?

Updates are not related to series numbers, so you must have done something compared to try to use an upgrade rather than an update.  Adobe not revise older versions of their software to adapt to the latest hardware/devices.  They create/sell new versions of their software for it.  If you subscribe to the Cloud at some point you shouldn't have a problem with the software becomes obsolete.

How can I get a twain driver for CS5 for Windows 7?

Since you have photoshop cs5 in the x 86 program files, then you have the 32 and 64 bit versions of photoshop cs5 installed.

the 64-bit version of photoshop cs5 is in

    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS5 (64 bit)

and the 32-bit version is in

    C:\Program Files (x 86) \Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS5

If you have not changed anything in the menu programs, while two versions of photoshop cs5 should be included under Start > all programs

Photoshop CS5 is the 32-bit version

Photoshop CS5 (64 bit) is the 64-bit version

You put the Twain plugin in Win32 folder from the link listed in the #1 message in the Photoshop CS5 32 bit Plug-Ins > import file

    C:\Program Files (x 86) \Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS5\Plug-ins\Import-Export

    TWAIN plug-ins | Photoshop CS4, CS5, CS6

VueScan that mentions Ronald Keller is also a good option if you do not want to be restricted to the use of the 32-bit version of photoshop cs5 to scan in photoshop.

Scanner VueScan for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux software

Photoshop cs5 should also be able to use WIA support for your scanner.

It would be under the file > importantmenu t in photoshop cs5 after you have your scanner is connected and turned on

  • Installation in silent mode for CS5.5?

I was able to get a silent installation for the DPS tools work very well for CS6 (v27), but I did find a method effective for CS5.5 (v27), set apart from the use of JAMF to perform monitoring of file system.

    The commands I tried:

    sudo /Adobe/DPS/r27/cs5.5fp/Install.app/Contents/MacOS/Install--mode = Silent

    Starting the installer...

    In silent mode.

    Successful installation.

Leave the installer with the Code: 0

    &

    sudo /Adobe/DPS/r27/cs5.5fb/Install.app/Contents/MacOS/Install--mode = Silent

    Starting the installer...

    In silent mode.

    Successful installation.

Leave the installer with the Code: 0

They always communicate that they are running properly, but do not actually seem to install anything. If I remove the silent flag, the Setup program runs successfully, but with the intervention of the user, which is not desirable. If anyone has encountered a similar issue or have a good way around it?

Even if I have already provided the private solution I post here as well in case other users are facing the same problem.

The correct syntax for silent deployment is:

    sudo. / Install - mode = silent - DeploymentFiles = "path".

    Thus, for example:

    sudo./Install.app/Contents/MacOS/Install--mode silent =--deploymentFile=deploy/AdobeDigitalPublishing-mul.install.xml

(here, the assumption is that the user is in the directory where is Install.app.

The command line, you should see "successful Installation. Leave the installer with the code: 0.
