PDF only open in Internet Explorer

If this is the wrong part of the forum, I apologize... Now on to why I'm here...

I have a user who has Adobe Xi Pro installed locally with IE8. To the requirements of employment of opening several files hourly pdf and change them, how would get us it set up so that they will be open in adobe pro vs. open in the browser instead.  I tried to check the page of the intranet preferences pro but get this following instead check open browser.  I checked the addons for IE, we tried to turn it off, one or all of them.  Also tried the same steps for IE 11 through our server from citrix, including tried disabling EMP mode to see if it could also be causing it.  Modifications resulted in the same, the PDF, open in a browser window.

Hi kc_guy,

Could you please do a right-click on any PDF icon and check under ' open with > choose default program ' If you have selected Adobe Acrobat or another program.

Also, go to the menu Tools of IE > manage add-ons and select "All add-ons" under "Display" label.

Then, check if Adobe PDF Reader is enabled, and then click the disable button and close the dialog (as shown below):

Now, let's see if the PDF files open in Acrobat or in the browser.

Let me know if it helps.

Kind regards

Ana Maria

  • How can I disable a shortcut that says 'open in Internet Explorer' and default back to FF

    I use FF as my default browser. A few shortcuts work best in Internet Explorer, so I select the option 'Open in Internet Explorer' and it works fine. Now I would like to cancel one of these shortcuts and opened it in FF by the original. I tried to delete the shortcut, but all new shortcut FF for this website automatically opens in Internet Explorer.

    How to cancel this initial transfer to IE so it opens again in FF?

    "Open in Internet Explorer" is not a default feature, it is added by one of a few different extensions. If you tell us exactly which you have installed the extension, we can help to change the preference of the frame far from opening this page in Internet Explorer.

    Hi JP,

    in such a short, it seems to me we/you can use the "turn" - technical. I want to say this, where after some time the swap images are displayed, usually in the following seconds. Now, you are using hours, instead of seconds, as we know half a day to 12 hours, if it works in the same way, right?

    Here, I experimented with it and used:

    delay in milliseconds between the swap image 1000 = 1 second
    var delay = 5000

    http://www.Goldschmiede-Blumberg.de/AdobTest/rotate/rotateB.html

    Now just do the calculations, the milliseconds how much we need 12 hours, ready? Hans G.

  • I always have to specify to open with Internet Explorer or other programs

    Original title: A link can not remember which program to start

    I have a machine with Vista and and when I get an email with a link to the internet - a PDF file, a site, or something else, I can't just click on the link - a dialog box appears and I have to specify witch program to start with - I don't then tap Internet Explorer and check the "Allways" and click on OK - but next time I have to once again!

    I tried right click and use 'Open with' and still tick "Allways" - but same result!

    How can I make the program witch visit remember to use in the future?

    I don't know what Outlook Express - 110%!

    It's a computer for my aunt and I distance control - me, he looked like initially to Vista, but need XP then.

    But the problem is that he doesn't remember witch program to start when you click on a link - not only in a mail, but on the desktop too!

    I tried to use 'Open with' and point to IE and checked "Always", but the next time she click it asks new witch program to start.

    We had been going round in circles in 2 different threads. It all comes down to confusion about which operating system and subsequently e-mail you what program use.

    If it's XP you use with Outlook Express e-mail program, please transfer to the XP forum.

  • Adobe PDF Reader - control ActiveX Internet Explorer 11 fails with unspecified error.

    Hello, I'm responsoible to our company's web applications. Part of this application displays PDF files into the browser. Please read the overview of things that I already tried before offering suggestions. I write here before raising the issue through CC for the support teams in the hope that someone is aware of the solution or workaround.

    Recently, we received a large number of requests for assistance regarding files PDF no longer display in the browser window on Internet Explorer 11 despite the current plugins and update being installed. I have reproduced this problem on several machines now. All are running Windows 7 Professional x 64 with IE11, and all Microsoft and Adobe updates are up-to-date. I have limited access to test on other combinations of BONE; However, given the number of customers who have called us, I am sure that the issue is widespread.

    When you try to instantiate the ActiveX control, there is a non-specific error returned: "Error". The following code in the console displays the message:

    try {var ax = new ActiveXObject ("AcroPDF.PDF") ;} catch (e) {console.log (e) ;}

    • I tried using the latest version of the plugin installed by XI Acrobat or Adobe Reader XI (11.06.70). Uninstalling and reinstalling does not solve the problem.
    • I ran the installation repair on the Help menu in Reader and Acrobat, nothing helps.
    • ActiveX filtering does not cause the issue. I checked that it is disabled. The control is not blocked by the preference of the user. I checked that it is authorized to run the site in my configuration.
    • Internet Explorer, Enhanced Protected Mode is not causing the problem. I tested in several security zones and lowered all minimum of IE to the strict security settings.
    • The number of instances of increments AcroPDF.dll during an attempt to instantiate the control, then it is called by EI; "Error" is returned from the DLL not the OLE Automation Server.
    • Other ActiveX controls can be instantiated and will work perfectly, including controls only 32-bit.
    • I tried editing the registry has suggested to "HCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\TabProcGrowth" (DWORD) to 1 to no effect.

    Thank you, everyone for the advice.

    I fixed this problem by following these steps:

    -Reset IE11 (Tools-> Internet options-> advanced)

    -Start the ActiveX Installer service in services
