  Yes and no. Your processor meets the minimum requirements of the system but, your ram only. However, even if you had more ram I wouldn't recommend. Personally, I found win 7 does not work well on anything less than 2.5 GHz processor. I he would go on 512 MB of ram if I tweaked even though the requirements are 1 GB. Your processor is your problem.

  May I ask why you want to replace the dual-core Intel clocked at 1.6 GHz with the old Pentium 4 2.8 Ghz?
  For me it makes no sense because the Dual Core 1.6 GHz is much faster than the P4 2.8 Ghz.

  The name says it all; Double heart means two cores of CPU at 1.6 GHz. SO if you would add the performance of two hearts, will get it better performance than the Pentium 4 2.8 GHz.

  By the way; as far as I know the P4 supports a different presentation so it s is not compatible with the card!

  Hey, so since my dad need a computer work (Word, Excel; sometimes Visio or some CAD software at low cost) as soon as possible, to buy the best model at a price online was not an option. So we had to buy one on site, and although it offers in shops was rather poor (as expected), we finally chose Dell Inspiron 15 3542 (one with 4 GB of RAM and Pentium 3558U).

  Generally, we are not happy about how poorly Windows 8 made on this machine. The operating system has perhaps as ~ 10 programs installed (excluding things like Visual C++, .NET Framework etc), a program is launched at startup (this is the COMODO antivirus), but the laptop feels really slow. Each individual operation lasts much longer than I should have. In addition to the General slugginess, which includes:

  • using Windows Explorer to browse files
  • the start of the above programs and open documents using these programs
  • surfing the internet at least 3 tabs open - the browser crashes sometimes just (tested on many browsers, including Opera, Chrome, Firefox, Vivaldi)

  It seems to work much better under Linux (xubuntu, to be precise), but most of the programs that need to work, won't work correctly even with wine, and run a virtual machine with Windows XP on a computer small is not an option (Yes, I tried).

  I am aware that the processor is the main reason for my disappointment, but I'm wondering how much of a sudden boost could replace the drive to a SSD 128 GB cause. Has anyone here with a Pentium 3558U processor do that?

  Also is there something I could do to improve performance? I remember the system used to process as ~ 50% of the CPU, but I already troubleshooted and fixed that, and this is no longer the case.

  Try running disk clean up and remove unwanted system files and folders. Through disk cleanup, you can delete all the temporary files and folders that are not needed on your computer.

  1. open Disk Cleanup by clicking the Start button picture of the Start button, tap all programs, accessories, click System Tools, and then click Disk Cleanup.

  2. in the Disk Cleanup Options dialog box, choose whether you want to clean your own files only or all files on the computer. Need administrator permission if you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
