PERC H330 and Raid 5, try adding another SATA drive raid 5 array

Hi all

I have one server PowerEdge T330 with 8 slots of disc and have currently 3 SATA drives running a raid 5 configuration.  I have a virtual disk configured for Raid (must).

The operating system recognizes the disk and is able to use the resources...

My desire is to add another hard drive to the table (hard disks of the same size, same brand, etc.) with 4 disks without losing any data.

I looked in the settings of the iDrac and the only adjustment was to add the new disk as a global hot spare or a hot spare dedicated to the virtual drive.

I also looked in the BIOS and do not see a way to add the new drive.

Does anyone know how to increase capacity?  I can blow the virtual drive if necessary and start over without problem.  I intend to gradually accomplish this Act until adding 8 disks. (5 times).

Help!

Hello.

Management controllers RAID and tables is not made in the BIOS iDRAC or systems. For the management of the RAID (virtual disks) arrays, you have OpenManage Server Administrator (OMSA). If not installed, see the link: http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=TK61C once installed, go to-> Storage->-> H330 PERC controllers-> virtual disk--> sub tasks available-> select reconfigure and run-> then check a box to add the fourth disk on the next page. Follow the prompts and allows you to extend your range of RAID 5.

  • Suggested Drive setup for new h8 - 1360t with SSD and Raid-1 array

    All,

I need some advice on how to configure the drives in my new system (waiting for construction and delivery, sigh).

I bought a plan to replace the 1 TB drive with a new drive SSD that I start from and H8 - 1360T (Win 7 Pro).

I also have a Raid-1 array in an old HP 4999 T system (Vista) disks Western Digital Caviar Black 2x2TB

By looking at the motherboard plug appear to be only SATA0/1 6 GB/s, the others are 3GBPS.

I was a little surprised by that and need some advice.

    1. If I put the SSD on SATA0 or SATA1, the quickest way?

2 or do I put the drives Raid-1 array and move the SSD to path of 3 Gbps?

I think this last (option 2), but wanted to get your entry in case missed me something.

    Thank you

    Ruette,

Thanks for your comments. Looks like I should start with Option 1 as a better starting point.

  • Configuration of the bios/add another SATA drive

I just added a 500 GB Sata Drive in my Dell8300. I cloned it with the info of the Sata 120 GB drive came with the system.

I left the orig. cable/HDD attached as he was to the Mboard and plugged the new drive in the free sata connection.

When I go into the bios, the only way I can get the new boot disk is to turn off the device of the orig. If this isn't the case, it will boot to the old drive.

I guess I have to swap the cables on the sata connector of Mboard for him to start again disc? Or, can I I put in place in the Bios to do? (I tried, but in vain)

Also, when I get it started properly, how can I do to get Windows XP to show both drives in Explorer? At present, if I have two drives is enabled in the bios, it will start on the old disk, but not to show new disc in Explorer...

Just a guess here, but I wonder if, because the old drive has been cloned on the new drive, I have to rename the drive letters to get to show?

Motherboard is Dell 0W2562 and BIOS: Dell Computer Corporation A03 19/09/2003

  • Dell R730xd with mode PERC H730 and RAID/HBA

    Hi all

I have a new Dell R730xd with a PERC H730 card. I have six 4TB readers connected to it. It works very well in RAID mode, but the map also has support for the 'HBA' mode In other words, the card works like a basic HBA and disables the RAID functionality. When the HBA mode map software can see the disks, but they never make it through the operating system. Readers are not detected in the MESSAGE as no RAID and there is no option to convert them to no RAID.

I talked about this through with technical support, which have been really helpful, but we can't find a solution. It seems to work on their server, but not mine.

So I write here to see if anyone else uses this configuration, or to find out if anyone has had the same problem and maybe even resolved. Let me know!

    Thank you
    Tim.

We had the same problem as well. I was able to solve the problem but doing a factory reset in the HBA. After the reset and reboot retype again HBA configuration and activate the HBA mode and your good.

I've already studied the basics > it's an IDE / ATA, is therefore of my office. Oops > my new one is a vista the hd is xp > hm how to handle that? Any help will be appreciated.   Thank you

    Hello

You can follow the link given below and check if that helps.

Install or remove a hard drive

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/install-or-remove-a-hard-disk-drive

Note: You will not be able to use the operating system on the hard drive that you added as may not be listed in the start menu.

    Hope this information is useful.

  • Adding another SATA CDROM to XPS 8900

I added an additional SATA CDROM to my 8900.  They both work but I'm curious to know what SATA ports on the motherboard are optimal for the CDROMs to plug.  Thank you.

Hello!  CD-ROM can only send and receive data much, much less then the max of a SATA 3 Port and even less SATA 6 ports which seem to be in your computer, so you don't have to worry about port to use.

  • If your computer comes with a hard drive of 32-bit pc will work better by adding another hard drive of 60 bits or transfer all files on the hard drive of 60 bits?

The pc is a hp pavilion a706n and windows vista ultimate.

    Hello

You confuse the version of Windows with the hard drive.

A hard drive is a physical device for Windows (operating system)
are the programs installed. When the data is created and saved which are written in the
hard drive. A hard disk is analogous to a wardrobe as a storage device.

Hard drives are not little dependent, which means that you can run Windows 32 or 64 on them
If the rest of the system is compatible with every version.

Windows can be 32-bit or 64-bit. But not all hardware systems can run both.
Many 32-bit systems cannot run 64-bit Windows.

Your computer came with at least a possible hard disk to add possibly
    internally, and certainly outside.

    WiKi - hard disk drive
    http://en.Wikipedia.org/wiki/Hard_disk_drive

As TrekDozer said that your computer cannot run as 64-bit Windows if you need to stay
with 32-bit Windows. However, you can add additional hard disks of extra disk space.

Check with HP support, their books online and the drivers, diagnosis, and
their forum are good sources of information from others with the same or similar
    systems.

  • Try adding a hard drive to esxi

    Hi all

I have a 2 TB SATA existing hard drive I want to add to my esxi server.  I want to add this new record (there currently NTFS) so that I can share its data with the VM on the server.  If this can be done with an existing NTFS file system, how can I add this player so that it can be split between the virtual machine?

    Thank you

    Jordan

OK, sorry to be obtuse, I think that I get it now.  I can't directly add NTFS drives to esxi and therefore against zero functioning of the virtual machine on the esxi - they need to be mounted on a conventional and shared system to the virtual machine.

    absolutely correct.

Let me ask you the question: can I add the drive to the esxi Server (let esxi format her) then add this drive to the windows on the same server esxi virtual machine?  Can I create a virtual disk on the disk then mount in windows virtual machine and then share via SAMBA?

    fix again...

I'm not able to get what you're trying to do. you want an ordinary action for all the virtual machines? This means that the share will be only for the operating system inside the virtual machine and not as a virtual hard drive. So what you said earlier is good enough. If you are looking for a common database shared among all virtual machines, then you'll love "openfile".

  • PowerEdge R630 - adding a SATA drive

    Hello

We have a new Poweredge R630, who arrived with 4 x 300 GB SAS disks in RAID 5 turns. All is well with them.

However, we would also use a SATA (SSD) (we have an exceptional SV300S3 extreme of Kingston). We insert it with a basket of spare and set it up as a new virtual disk, it seems fine. The only doubt I have is that if we can leave it without an AIRLOCK inserter in front of her. More precisely:

    (1) the leap card would increase its performance? Or the bottleneck would be the SATA: Rev 3.0 (6 Gb/s) interface of the SSD even?

    (2) only the fact that the SSD is attached like SATA hampers, somehow, 4 SAS drives running?

    (3) if we wanted to add an inserter, which part number should we buy?

Just to be complete: the performance now seems acceptable farily (but I have no clear reference in mind). In a reading test sequential, it works a bit worse than the readers of spinning (~ 360 MB/s against ~ 595 MB/s), but on a random read/write test, it surpasses clearly them (~ 10 x are PAHO / s).

    Hello

No, one leap is not necessary, does not affect the performance and will not affect the performance of SAS drives only.

I do not show a disk for the R630 support option that includes an inserter or a separately listed inserter.

    Thank you

  • The PERC H710P will support third party company 8TB SATA drives?

I'm looking to extend the life of an old 2950III of PE with 64 GB RAM and Windows Server 2012 R2 which is used as a repository for copies of backups. Anyone who has used successfully 8 than TB Enterprise-class WD, Seagate or Hitachi drives with this controller successfully?  The server is currently configured to use Windows Storage Pools, but I plan to migrate to ESXi 6.0 and vSphere. I have read the reports that to 6 discs have worked successfully, but as I buy 6-disc I'd like to optimize storage space financial available if possible if the cost per TB makes sense going with a 8 TB drive.

If these drives will work, should the card be flashed?  I've read only reports of the flashing with the firmwares on this forum and that you have used personally the official flash versions of Dell.

    Thank you.

Ah, I noticed that earlier in the thread title... might want to put all the pertinent details within your post, as the title for a reason any is not visible when you reply.

So... maybe. Non-certified discs are guaranteed to certainly not to work and the less mainstream you will (as to 8 disks), plus it is likely that there will be a mismatch. I recommend you get to go somewhere with a good return policy and try just to test.

  • PowerEdge 2900 (and 2950) with PERC 5i - extend Raid 5

    Hello

I have a Dell (PowerEdge 2900) server with a Raid PERC 5i (with BBWC) controller and 4 SATA drives installed (a virtual disk Raid 5, Windows 2008).

Now I have an extra drive (same capacity, same speed) and installed on the server.

I tried to expand the existing virtual disk (and the disk group) with the new physical disk drive in the BIOS of the controller and openmanage server administrator (managed node) running on windows.

But it is not possible to do with this Raid Cntrl?

Is there a way to do this without loss of data and maintenance of raid 5 redundancy?

The same procedure I need to do on a PE2950 (PERC5i)

    Thank you and best regards,

    loop11

What have you tried exactly, and what has happened or what have you seen?  You did not mention anything that leads me to believe that you tried this in the right place :)

The PERC 5 / I can do without a doubt:

With the disc, go to OMSA, PERC, case/bottom of basket, storage, physical disks and make sure your drive shows ready.

If ready, go to the OMSA, storage, PERC, virtual disks, select Reconfigure in the drop down menu to your RAID 5, follow the wizard to add the disk.

If the record shows the foreign, go to the OMSA, storage, PERC, Information/Configuration (link at the top of the page), click on foreign/clear in the dropdown menu, then follow the directions above.

You try to install from the Web or Adobe Creative Cloud application?

If you had installed the Adobe Creative Cloud desktop application, launch it and connect.

Once logged in, click on the tab menu Apps.

After loading the list of apps apps, Photoshop and Lightroom and click Install next to him.
