Photos library build stops at 24%

I'm migrating from an old Macbook Pro (10.8.x) to a new MacBook Pro (10.11.x).  While the Photos builds my selected library (created in iphoto 11, v.9.x) whenever it stops at 24%.  The first 24% is built within 20 min and then stays on 24% for nearly an hour.

What I am doing wrong, or do I have to do differently?

It is a problem in various ways on this OS 10.11.x.  Migration of files on any media (wired Ethernet; and then the shot of lightning; then on wifi), ended before the migration complete, gave no indication of what the transfers succeeded, which offended the migration file or where to take them back.  Ironically, wifi was the closest to success!

Construction of library of Photos is just another disappointing effect on this OS 10.11.x.  I attribute it to the operating system that the processor is the same, but faster. double the RAM; and double the HARD drive space.

What I am doing wrong, or do I have to do differently?

Where is iPhoto as Library located? Have let you go several hours past when it seems to stall? What version of iPhoto do you have on the old system (full version number) which version of the operating system you have?

Work on a MacBook and recently installed Sierra 10.12.  Everything worked fine until all applications 3rd party such as Word, Excel, Powerpoint, (office 11 14.6.8), Photoshop Elements 10 has ceased to recognize the new photo library.  iPhoto and photo booth developed but not the photo library itself. The actual program pictures works fine. I also see the library by email and online (as a download on shutterfly). 2 hrs with tech does support last night and 3 people later no resolution.  Reinstalled Sierra. No change. Everything is updated.

  • Should I Photostream if I use iCloud photo library

Hi, I use iCloud library on my MBP, two iPhones and iPad and I still active Photostream.

I'll try to find our knowledge if I need Photostream as well as use iCloud.  I have more than enough storage for the moment in the cloud then from what I can tell Photostream is not something that would fail me if I turned it off.  At the same time, I can't find a definitive answer anywhere!

Grateful that if ever I decide to stop using the cloud, I can turn Photostream for my last few thousand photos.

I also try to work if there is anyway that I can reduce the amount of space on my iPhone which currently takes about 13 GB of photo library.

    Any help would be welcome.

    Thank you

    Matt

If you do not use my Photo Stream, turn off all devices.

You need my photo only, stream if you also use older devices with iOS 7 or more, which can not support iCloud photo library. But if all your devices are set to synchronize with iCloud photo library, you don't need my photo stream. It might even cause problems.

  • iCloud photo library is not available

I have an imac with mac sierra.  When I go to system-> Preferences-> icloud and try to choose 'photos', he keeps by unchecking it. no error message. When I opened the photos app and go to Preferences-> iCloud library its selected.

They both should not be selected?

Also at the top left there are 'photos' I thought showed pictures.  under the albums, there is a folder "all photos". Celle one of the high 'photos', seems to have stopped to update, as the choice of background under albums, "all photos" has all the latest photos and continues to update.  Anyone know if this is normal or what is wrong?

I have an imac with mac sierra.  When I go to system-> Preferences-> icloud and try to choose 'photos', he keeps by unchecking it. no error message. When I opened the photos app and go to Preferences-> iCloud library its selected.

I had which also occur at first. Is photos showing a short message 'check library' before it resets the check mark for iCloud > Photos?

In this case, fix your photo library.  After I fixed the library, it was possible to activate system preferences-> icloud-> Photos.  See this help page: https://help.apple.com/photos/mac/1.2/?lang=en#/pht6be18f93

Important: You must back up your library before repair of your library.

    • If the photo is open, choose Photos > Photos of quit smoking.
    • Press Option-command and double-click on the Photos icon in the Applications folder (or click the Photos icon in the Dock). The library of repair window opens.
    • Click on fix to rebuild your library.

The second problem can also indicate a problem with the library:

under the albums, there is a folder "all photos". Celle one of the high 'photos', seems to have stopped to update, as the choice of background under albums, "all photos" has all the latest photos and continues to update.  Anyone know if this is normal or what is wrong?

Photos seems to be missing in the 'Photos' album, but the power be sorted differently from the album picture all.  Select one of the photos in all the Photos that does not appear in the Photos, ctrl-click and use the command 'display in the moment '.  If she does not appear in the Moments in Photos, fix the library.

  • How to handle Monster pictures 30 K in iCloud photo library? Segment or archive, suggestions?

    Hi there-

I managed to hang a new iPhone 7 now and want to put up, but I'm struggling under the weight of a photo 32 000 iCloud photo library. Yes, I know it's my fault - we had iPhones for years, I'm an accountant family and the taker of the photo, I take too many pictures, I save too many photos, I have teenage girls who take a LOT of pictures.

SO I think they are in the library of iCloud.  When I'm on my phone with iOS 10, I see "All Photos" and the total is slightly less than 32K - BUT I don't really need TO see all 32,000?  In fact, I don't really want to?  I would like to know that they are saved in their original resolution, but never need access to all those who, on minutes notice: they took 10 years to build up!

Can I 'archive' in iCloud library?  They segment somehow?

I have 7 more than 256 GB iPhone memory - isn't a storage thing, it's just something exaggerated.  I'm considering a facility clean b/c I'm also about 1000 apps more than 10 years old.

But once I sign in iCloud, I think that 30K pictures will come streaming back, right?

    Other info:

-My use of Photos on my 6 current iPhone is about 40 GB

-J' have 800 GB available on a 1 TB iCloud account

-In my iCloud account, it says that my photo library ICloud is 97 GB

-I don't have an unlimited Smugmug Pro with photo storage account (although I'm not really all 32K of these-there are many who are not guards).

-J' I download Google Photos to try to save it, but there still 30 000 pictures to back up.

-J' have a MacBook Air but (gulp) do not have upgraded the operating system to have Photos for Mac yet.

I would really appreciate it here a road map to get out of this situation - or not "stack" putting them all on my 256 GB iPhone 7 more and just accumulating more!

Thanks in advance for the help!

Why not only the photos in the photo library of iCloud?

  • photo library mobile problem drive ext

I moved my library on an external drive by following the instructions in the previous discussions, I copied the library on the external drive and then re-launched photos, hold down the ALT key then selected the library copied. Then, I put the copied as the library system and active re iCloud library library. but then I got a message saying I have available insufficient storage in iCloud. my library is close to 600 GB, and I'm on the 1 TB storage plan. Looks like photos trying to load the entire copied photo as a new library library. is it possible to stop this and to recognize the copied the original library, because I don't want to upgrade my storage iCloud simply to have 2 copies of everything in my library like I don't want to have to wait for 600 GB to download to get the library on the mac back in phase. I think I might just start a new library system on my mac and then download icloud, but I don't know if I'm doing this that I lose all the info from faces that I added to my existing library.

While we're on the subject of the faces there at - it a way to sync on devices that I have this library on my mac mini and also I have the photos app on my macbook pro synchronized in the same photo library and but iCloud account info "faces" does seem to not copy on iCloud, is this correct, and is it possible to synchronize the faces

    Thank you

    Mike

Don't you can't stop it and it will not download everything but is checkin to be sure, the library is in sync - nothing will be duplicated

Yes, you can start a new library and Yes you would lose your face albums but keep the tags face making re more quickly - identify and when OS X Sierra came out Photos will manage faces totally differently, but until the software is released, no one knows exactly what it will include or how it will migrate

  • Apple TV, you see only not my new photo library

I have Apple TV and 2 Macs that use home sharing to display pictures of selected iPhoto library.  It has worked well for years, through several generations of ATV (including this, the latest).  Today, on a Mac, I've converted a library of photos from iPhoto in Photos.  In fact, I have 2 libraries - one of which is a 'starter' library created last week, put up with all my keywords and the structures of startup (to clone for new photo projects) records - he has 11 photos.  The second Photo library (which is the most recently accessed Library / edition) has 900 + photos, created today.

I am running the latest version of iTunes, under El captain.

When I get home sharing in iTunes...

.. .to select photos to share, the default value presented is for 'Photos' (Yes, I don't know iPhoto its more long!) - BUT it's the 11-photo 'starter' library, like this:

When I use the drop down menu to choose a different folder (the library populated), I choose the file, but it shows 0 photos, like this:

What should I do to get the iTunes to recognize my populated library?  (I quit and restarted iTunes - I also stop and restart the Mac.)

I'm tempted to remove the Starter 11-photo Library, so that there is only a single library on the Mac... but I hate the idea that is the solution for iTunes and the Photos app talk to each other.  With iPhotos, I had literally dozens of libraries and constantly under tension between them.  I wouldn't think that the ability is lost with Photos.

    Thank you!

Ah, ha - think I found the answer.  In the preferences of Photos, there is a "button to specify a particular library as the library of the"System. "  My Library recently populated did not have this set:

I set its State to "on":

and iTunes now sees this library instead of the ' starter when sharing with "Photos".

The option "Chose the folder" doesn't seem to do anything useful, so it seems that it is the new way to do this when the Photos app is used for photos of the ATV.

  • Download the video in MPG format to iCloud photo library

Is it possible to download a video file, MPG to a Mac to iCloud photo library?

I stopped using iCloud photo library on the Mac due to low disk space, however I always use iCloud photo library on other devices and would like to have the video available here. I tried to use the web interface to iCloud by using Safari, but I get a message that the format is not supported

I guess I could convert the file in another format, however, I do not want 3rd party applications on my Mac, and I worry about compromising video quality. Is the other way to do this? Could using Photos (1.5) on the Mac and the activation of my photo stream get the video to appear in the photo library of iCloud?

As we told you MPG is not a format alternative for ICPL

Types of files that you can use with iCloud photo library

Your photos and videos are stored in iCloud, exactly as you took them. All your images are in their original format in full resolution, JPEG, RAW, PNG, GIF, TIFF, and MP4, as well as special formats capture you with your iPhone, like slo - mo, Time lapse video 4K and Live Photos.

  • Photo library - iCloud how to remove duplicates

All, someone knows something about OSX/IOS 'Photos' app will detect and remove duplicates photo9?  My library 'Photos' 63 299 photos & videos of 2135 from may 2016 and at least 10,000 + of these photos are duplicates (based on an analysis of Photosweeper). I have checked the results of the analysis of Photosweeper by doing a manual visual comparison and check images original in iphoto library (using the function location of show) and confirmed that these 10 000 + photos are images duplicate identical with names of different files in different parts of the photo library database.

So what is happening and how to stop 10-15% of my picture library being duplicate files! I will raise this directly with the apple support payment for the 1 TB icloud service to cover my very large library 'Photos', which should probably be just a large Photo library!

A few other comments for those who have a double problem:

-L' old iPhoto application used to "detect duplicates" when import but the new application 'Photos' does not. Anyone know about this?

-J' saw the documentation from apple saying the icloud search duplicates in 'Photos' when in the icloud, but clearly not work or it does not work if duplicates exist also in the version of the imac to the library 'Photos '.

-Beware of apps that claim to find 'photos' duplicate and are recommended on various Internet sites, a number of them don't work with the old iphotos app the new application 'Photos' (I discovered after you pay and download). If you need a remover of duplicates of photos that work with 'Photos' review and stay away from any application that do not specify clearly and explicitly he works with "photos" and has been seen since the release of the Photos app.

+ I paid $10 for "Gemini" dual Finder and has been a complete waste of time that didn't work only not with the "Photos" application (it wasn't not clear documentation or support, and when I trigger it supported by Macpaw that they said gemini does not support photos and told me to buy another app macpaw - I told them to go jump in a Lake).

+ I found very good Photosweeper that you can set to match exact or variable (for example photos of accidental burst which are 99.99% identical but 0,1s collapse) and then you can right click to view original file / image in the library to manually check duplicate (if you are paranoid like me) - there are many other paid apps that also make this store then around

Photos detects duplicates when you import pictures and when you synchronize with ICPL

Photos does not analyse the duplicates, but checks for them during import and download of IPCL

There are a few duplicate programs that are tested as safe with Photos, including PowerPhotos, PhotoSweeper for the pictures and Duplicate Annihilator for Photos - do not use a tested and documented as safe\

And I'm not clear what your post is about since you are asking how to find duplicates and then provide a good answer - photoSweeper - it is one of the safe and effective ways to remove duplicates for Photos

  • Disabling iCloud photo library on my iPhone

    Hello

I tried to disable iCloud photo library (~ 15000 photos) on my iPhone.

    1. Everything went well (or almost) until the end: ~ 250 pictures remained on my iPhone, not be deleted after hours.
    2. I tried to manually delete the remaining photos but it deleted on iCloud as well.

Why do I always have photos on my iPhone? Is that because I "IPhone storage to optimize" turned on?

I would like to disable iCloud library turns off and not of picture about it. How can I keep everything on my iCloud library?

Thanks in advance for your help.

    L.

Try going to settings/iCloud and stop synchronization of Photos. Just to be safe, go to settings/Photo and camera and make sure that the synchronization stops there. Now you should be able to remove the pictures from the phone.

  • ICloud photo library - double images and memory iPhone 5 c problem

    Hello

After months of deliberation, I decided to convert my Aperture on Mac in photo library and link the family three iPads and my iPhone to iCloud photos. I made sure all software updates have been installed on all devices, including the Mac. After 22 days of continuous download, I have now all the pictures in the clouds!

However I have 2 problems. My 30 k + original images expanded to 40 k + with thousands of duplicates and my iPhone 5 c memory (8 GB - what a mistake!) is now full and I cannot take photos more or update applications on it. I guess that duplicates are albums on iPads.

Before I converted, I checked and the documentation stated that the Photos would be recognition of duplicates and not replicate in the cloud. I also checked the box to optimize the images on my iPad and iPhone not realizing that even with the optimization of the paltry memory on the 5 c would be totally inadequate - the iPad is very good.

Now I have more documented and install PhotoSweeper on the Mac seems a possible solution to the problem in double - the alternative is to go through each image!

Re the problem of the iPhone, the only solution I see is to stop the iCloud photo library on the phone and then remove the images on the phone. Who will free the memory, and I will then be able to take pictures I have to take pictures by other means. It's not ideal for a functioning flawlessly, but when my contract is up this summer the next phone will be a greater amount of memory and hope it will be seamless!

Any advice please before going further?

Photo Sweeper is a good package and works well and is course - so are duplicate Annihilator for Photos and PowerPhotos

You could try turning off ICPL on the small phone, cleaning of duplicates and leaving all s = complete uploads and downloads and stabilize and they new the on with photos on the iPhone - optimized it can handle then - worth a try

  • Unable to repair the photo library.

Recently reinstalled OS X on my Macbook and have been bringing things plus one by one from a Time Machine backup. I dragged out of the photo library of backup to disk of the Macbook and put it in the images folder. I opened the Photos and a prompt appears that the library must be repaired in order to work properly. I click 'fix' and it starts. It stopped at 95% and gives me this message:

"The library could not be opened. Pictures has tried to fix the 'Photos' library, but is unable to open it. »

I tried to update the computer.

I tried an older version of the backup of the library.

I tried to force Photos of repair via the option + command thing.

    I even fixed the permissions.

    I tried 5 times now.

    Help, please!

    OS X El Capitan 10.11.3 (15 d 21)

I dragged out of the photo library of backup to disk of the Macbook and put it in the images folder.

Drag you it directly from Disk Time Machine? A library of Photos should be restored by running Time Machine, otherwise the internal links may not work.

Try to start Time Machine and restore directly from the display of Starwars.

Select the pictures folder, and then open it.  With the folder of photos open in the Finder more window start Time Machine. Go back at the same time you did your backup, and then select the photo library and click on the button "restore".

  • Photo library no longer sync to iCloud

On a whim, I decided to check to see if my photos on my MacBook Pro (in OS X version 10.11.3) have increased on the library in my iCloud account and found out that the were not the pictures. It seems that other than 2 pictures (of many) on 24 December, nothing has been transferred to iCloud for my Mac since October 9. Photos taken with my iPhone 5 s appear in the iCloud library, so this seems to be just a problem with the Mac. I also see that the changes I made on the Mac for iPhone photos are not sync iCloud or my library on my iPhone. I signed up for storage iCloud around August or September 2015, while I could use as a backup of my photos and have them sync between devices. In System Preferences/iCloud/Photos, I remember selection iCloud photo library, but not my stream of photos or iCloud, photo sharing. However, when I look at these options today, iCloud that library is not checked and My Photo Stream and iCloud, sharing of photos are checked. I thought I could change it right back, but when I check the option library iCloud now, it shows that I don't have enough space on the cloud. I plan to store 200 GB and only 56 GB left, because the majority of my photos (144 GB) is already there. How can I get new photos and retouching to iCloud and ensure that it continues to work as it should? Of course, I don't have photos that are already in place in iCloud to redownload. Which took several days to get them right the first time! Thank you very much for your help!

I suspect that it is a temporary problem until you get you Mac fully synchronized with the cloud again. You should not, but I guess that if you have subscribed to the plan of 1 TB for a month, the problem may resolve itself and you might return to the 200 GB plan. If you went down this path I'd be inclined to contact Apple first to see if you can not re-credited for your temporary subscription.

The other alternative would be to stop iCloud photo library on your phone, manually transfer the missing photos on your Mac, delete all the photos in the cloud and then turn it back on in iCloud photo library on the Mac. I'm not sure I want to try it myself.

  • Transfer the Aperture/Photo library to new Mac: how to manage the referenced pictures

Here's the scoop.  I was a long-time user of Aperture with half of my pictures handled as pictures referenced to an external drive.  Photos, as I understand it, also sees the photos as mentioned.

I then acquired a new iMac and want to now all of my photos to reside on his hard drive and I'll give up on opening.

So, if I transfer the Photos library file to the new computer, how can I get these files referenced on the new computer?

Do you want the photos to be referenced or you want to group as managed in the Photos?

If you want to keep the referenced pictures, use Aperture on your old mac to move files referenced in a folder on the new Mac, before opening the Aperture Photo library to convert it to a library of Photos.

If you are satisfied with transforming the library to a library of the crib, you can use pictures after the migration the photo library to build the library.

Pictures has the command "file > consolidate" to move the intone library pictures and make managed, it has few tools to fix the referenced files broken, but it can not move the referenced files. No matter what move you want to do, do it in Aperture, while your library is still an Aperture library.

Opening 3.6.is still work under MacOS X 10.10.3.
