photos on an external hard drive

I have thousands of images on an external hard drive that have not been imported into Lightroom. I wonder if anyone has any advice to streamline the process to put some photos in lightroom? The final destination is on the same hard disk. Most of the pictures are of no value to me, but I'm not sure I want to delete them immediately. I create new folders and import only the photos that I am more interested?

I create new folders and import only the photos that I am more interested?

In the import dialog box, you can view thumbnails of photos and check the ones you want to import (and don't mark those that you don't want). No need to create new folders for benefits of Lightroom, it seems unnecessary to do; work While you can certainly do it if you want. Use the add import option.

As a matter of philosophy, I import ALL (it is 100%, no exceptions) of my photos in Lightroom if I decided to keep them and the ones I don't want went from my HDD immediately (they are usually too over/unedexposed or too blurry for any use). It seems to me that you have your job back, you want to choose if you want to keep these pictures or not, to get rid of those that you decide you do not want to, and then import the rest in Lightroom.

    Hello

I bought an external hard drive Sansung to save all my music, but when one copy all my external music files hard drive thumbnails disappears. I uncheck the "always show icons, never thumbnails" in folder options, I tried large icons on display options, I even checked "display thumbnails instead of icons" on the Visual effects tab in the Panel of the Performance in Advanced system settings. ' " Prevented, Windows Vista is not able to see the photos in my external hard drive.

Looking forward to your audience you shortly.
    Thanks in advance,

    1. click Start allprograms,Accessories, System Tools folder and Disk Cleanup

2 check the photos and click OK.
NOTE: Cache view the size of your thumbnail. More browsing, it can make.

3 click delete files button on the confirmation window.

4 disk cleanup will now clear thumbnail cache and close.

This should clear up your tiles and once you access the program again the cache database will be recreated with the right thumb nail (we hope).

  • If I saved photo on an external hard drive, now remove the laptop backup files to free up space?

If I saved photo on an external hard drive, I can now delete backup files from the laptop for free space - my 'E' drive is full and cannot run backups more.  Also other documents that have now been removed still have backups that I need?  How will I know what backup should I keep not individually through hundreds of files?  Thank you in advance.

Original title: can anyone help please?

    Hello

You can take a safe backup.

After you create your first backup, Windows backup will add new information or changed to your subsequent backups. If you save your backups on a hard drive or network, Windows backup will create a new backup, full for you automatically if necessary. If you save your backups on CDs or DVDs and could not find an existing backup disk, or if you want to create a new backup of all the files on your computer, you can create a full backup. Here's how to create a full backup:

    1. Open backup and restore by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking system and Maintenance, and then clicking the backup and restore.

    2. In the left pane, click on create new, full backup.

  • Download of photos from an external hard drive

    New to Photoshop.

IMac OS X Yosemite - Photoshop Elements 13

How can I set Photoshop Elements download as opposed to import my photos of my external hard drives?  I want to avoid the 'missing file' & reconnect "."  Memory cards import all data: external hard drives can probably do the same thing?

I found information on how to manually drag on but it does not work either.

I don't want any of my eternal hard drives to synchronize with Photoshop, as they do at the moment.

I read learning and support and tutorials but still impossible to locate any 'preferences' in this regard.

    Regards Tina

Hi Tina, if you want to keep the external drive connected as a drive to work, then you must copy pictures to a folder of photos.

Then use the menu of the Organizer:

File > get Photos & videos > files & folders

Then navigate to your location in images.

Right-click (Ctrl-click on Mac) on a parent folder and choose the location of the update folder.

I have a macbook pro with only 128 GB of hard drive. I installed lightroom and all my photos on an external hard drive. Can I keep my library on the external hard drive also lightroom?

Yes. Find LR catalog file in Edit/settings/general catalogue. Close LR and go to this place. The catalog file is one that ends by .lrcat - move it where you want. Beside the .lrcat file is a subfolder called Previews.lrdata. You can move, but if you don't not LR will generate new insights. Double-click the .lrcat file in her new home and LR will open with this catalogue. Set preferences in more recent catalogue.

Hi ya'll! I'm still learning how to navigate my way with Lightroom. (Last time I wrote, I got a few responses that work.) Thank!) Now, I have another question. When I try to copy photos to my external hard drive to a CD/DVD, no matter if do leave LR or my car, I get the message; "Disc burning is not supported by LR on this computer." I've tried everything I can think of, so, I thought I'd see if anyone can find out if there is something I can do. Or could it be that my computer just can't handle it? Help! So frustrating!  I have a Lenovo PC, I don't know if that makes a difference. Any ideas? Thanks a lot for your help!

You burned discs with other programs using this computer? Are you sure that you have a drive that will burn the disks?

  • I imported my photos from an external hard drive in Lightroom, edited my photos but then...? !

    Adobe,

I imported my photos from an external hard drive in Lightroom, edited my photos and when I decided to export the originals had not been updated and deleted photos were not deleted. How I set up so that once I have import photos, edit and export they are then placed in their original case reviewed and updated?

I managed to export photos to another file, but they were exported with an Adobe.xmp file. What is it and is it necessary?

    Thanks for your help!

OK then so when you export edited LR images to tell the Office I do not need to use xmp files unless I want then to re - edit still say in Photoshop or another app?

You don't need the files xmp during the passage of LR to Photoshop. Right click on the image or in the develop module, click Photo > edit in... According to what you have set in the preferences of the image then opens like FFT, JPEG or PSD - 8 bit / 16 bit - and the new TIFF file for example automatically will return to sitting next to the original RAW LR library. If you are exporting a RAW file edited to the desktop to JPG/TIFF then changes will be permanently stamped in the EXIF of the created files.

Basically import my Raw files on the drive from Carmera card, then in LR. Edit in LR, finishing and export again say in the office. Keep or throw originals that I please...

Yes, but why would you throw your originals? You can later return to the original and the re - change all over again new experiences learned etc..

Can I see the modified pictures made in Photoshop in LR later?

Yes, see first paragraph above. If you already have a file in LR, take it in Photoshop as a JPG/TIFF/PSD, it will be automatically reduced in LR. If you modify a file outside the LR and that is not already in the LR library, say by locating the RAW file in Explorer and then open it directly in ACR/Photoshop, then LR will have no idea what you did except in LR, you choose to import the image later. Remember though, this is one of the examples where you will need to configure save metadata in xmp (at bridge) so that when you import the edited outside the file RAW LR, LR will read the xmp file changes and save it in its own database.

  • Library share of photos stored on external hard drive

I currently have a library that is much too large for my MacBook Pro. I use Aperture with a referenced library, stored on an external hard drive.

I would like to be able to share our library on my MB Pro, my wife and our iPhones and iPad MacBook. When the pictures came out, I was informed that I couldn't use iCloud with a library referenced and sharing across different devices iOS and mac. (In fact, I would need only to share a part of the library on our computers and devices. Some must be on my MBP.

    Is this possible with pictures?

Or anyone has any other suggestions how I can share the photos I have with my wife book Mac and iPhone?

    Thank you very much.

    None

There is no way to share a library with Photos Aperture - there is no way to share a portion of a photo library (or iPhoto or Aperture) - library iCloud requires pictures and that's all or nothing - you can have several libraries with the photos you want to share in one and all the others in another

as for ways to share Photos and opening - a third-party site like Flickr or export to DropBox and import from there

  • How to copy my photos on an external hard drive?

I'm trying to move some of my photos on my Mac on my external hard drive. So far, I've tried exporting but it fails everytime and I read on the internet, each site help and can not understand one of them.

I've only had my Mac a couple of weeks after laptops Windows all my life and it's really frustrating that one is as simple as copy and paste pictures of their folder on my hard drive!

So please can someone give me simple instructions on how to get my pictures on my hard drive?

How did the external hard drive formatted and connected to your Mac? It must be formatted for OS X Extended (journaled) with the property set to be ignored.

Also what system version are you running under which version of Photos?

  • Transfer photos to an external hard drive in 11 days?

    Hey guys,.

I just bought an external hard drive of 1 TB (Toshiba Canvio Basics) with a USB 3.0 cable and transfer the photos from library Photos takes long time. There are about 65 GB of photos and videos.  There is an estimate of 6 days for photos at the end of transfer on my first try. I left after 5 minutes because I thought that maybe I don't plug it right.  On my 2nd try, he gave me an estimate 1 day, I left who once again in 5 minutes. On my third try, I change usb ports and it gave me an estimate 11 days to get it to transfer. I have a MacBook Pro 2012, if that helps. Is this normal? or something is wrong with my Macbook or my new external hard drive?  How can I improve the transfer speed? Any help would be great. Thank you very much.

    Two things:

What format is this player? How are you connected to it?

In addition, the Finder is a liar. He considers all sorts of things, but the estimate changes, 65 tis can take a few hours, but it will take more than that.
