  Now try control-alt-shift key (Ctrl-alt-shift on Windows) and start Photoshop. An option button will open and opt for delete the settings file - see if that helps any.

Adobe will always accept the license number for an older version, or will they fall in the hope that I'll change to take on their creative cloud malarkey? I found many apparently on Amazon, although the occasional journal described that Adobe are not accepting their serial numbers. Saying this, most comments say it fits well with little concern, so I don't know too much about how she would treat me. I'm in England, incase it would affect anything. The indices of anyone?

  I have it is a genuine copy, no open standard version and CS5, no Photoshop 5.0, then you will be able to record it.  If it's a Student Edition, I believe that the current versions are supported.

  You may want to Photoshop elements 13 if you want to a perpetual version.
