Photoshop Elements 6 - travel catalogs?

My husband uses Photoshop Elements 6.  It has a Windows XP computer that is dying, and I set him up on a new computer with Windows 7 (I'm primarily a Mac person, but I think I understand quite well Windows).

Thus, all our pictures are on a mapped network as "P:" drive on its older Windows XP computer and the new Windows 7 computer.  I'm trying to find out what files on the XP machine should be moved to the Windows 7 machine so that she'll just take its current catalogues and use them on the new computer.  No pictures should have to move, because they are on an external drive.

I thought maybe it was the apdpreferences.xml file, but that does not yet exist in the directory on the Windows machine appdata.  It copies over there did nothing.

Is there a way to his 'setup' just move to the new computer?  We do not want to do the 'backup' of the catalogue which would result in the displacement of the photos, because they do not need to be moved.

Thank you.

DZ

You must move the catalog folder, that you can find on the old computer by help > System Info.  The file can be placed anywhere on the new computer.  To open the catalog on the new computer, in Windows Explorer, navigate to the catalog folder, and then double-click catalog.psedb.

Note that PES 6 and later versions ignores letters of disc network - instead, it uses the path UNC (for example \\myserver\photos), make sure that the UNC path is the same on both computers.

In fact, if you install PSE11 in the same computer as PSE4, you can convert the PSE4 catalog to the new version, and the new catalogue will recognize your media files. See the limits of conversion for some types of creations in the link above.

The other way suggested by Preran (which is to make a complete backup of PSE4 and restore from the PSE11) is a good way; It is necessary if you are migrating to a different computer or operating system.

I have a lot of photos with tags and metadata in Photoshop Album 2.0 version and I want to shoot you images, metadata and tags in Photoshop Elements version 13.0 on a Windows 7 computer. Searching the Web I found that this must be done with the convert function.  I tried file, catalogs to manage, convert and point to the folder holding my Photo project Catalog.psa file, but nothing happens. Apparently, it is not the .psa file.  How can I get my .psa catalog migrated to 13 items?

  • Is it possible to import a Photoshop Elements 3.0 version catalog in Photoshop Lightroom?

Is it possible to import a Photoshop Elements 3.0 version catalog in Photoshop Lightroom?

PSE 3 uses a different database to the current SQLite. Your version will host a Microsoft Access database, which is stored in a file called for example MyCatalog.psa.

You can download the trial version of PSE14 and try to convert your catalog to the current format during the installation. If successful, that should give you an optimized file named for example MyCatalog.pse14db. You can then import into Lightroom. See the link below for more information on the differences in catalog:

  • Photoshop Elements Organizer 10 backup freezes at 49%.

I have a big collection photos (~ 80 000).  I tried (unsuccessfully) for a week back up my collection.  Whenever it freezes at 49%.  I did all the steps here: ts.html http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop-elements/kb/troubleshoot-catalog-backup-conversion-elemen even of freezing. Then I did a full scan of the disk/repair and tried all the steps again.  Always in freezing.  I am running Windows 7 on a powerful machine.

I want my collection to a new hard drive, so I really need to use the bulit in the backup.  What else can I try?

I was able to make the backup of photos only, I can try with the videos?

    This is very good news.

    Here are a few ideas:

-from your original catalog, create a copy leaving only the types of video media, just like what you did with the photo files.

-the offending video file types are usually not with video formats 'common', rather with the cell phone formats.

-There may be a "corrupt", but unrecognized formats are probably more frequent

-To have a look at the different formats (file extensions), look at the total number of video files and take a note of it.  Use the search by file name, 'files', then select a visible file extension in space navigation (avi, mov...). Take a note the number of files in each category.

For each category, select all and hide files. Continue with the next category and so on until nothing is visible.

You will all have your extensions of files with the number of files in each category.

Now, to show all files and make a second copy of your video catalog.

Try a backup of video files after you delete one of the categories. I would start with the less popular video formats.

Try this until the backup works well: you will know that the offending format.

A variant of this method would be to select videos by device type, rather than by type of format.

Something you could do with the video catalog until you find the offending or corrupt format file (s): you can try to move (in the organiser menu) all the video files somewhere on a new empty folder in the master as standard (backup no PSE). You can get important messages in the process. Note that this 'movement' may be unable to "undo" in case of problems. A more secure variant would be to 'export' instead of 'move '.

  • How can I make the best use of a new external hard drive and a new catalog full of photos just loaded into Photoshop elements 14 Organizer?

How can I make the best use of a new external hard drive and a new catalog full of photos just loaded into Photoshop elements 14 Organizer?

Keep all the files on external hard drive image?  Nothing else and no pictures on the desktop?

Keep all image files both places?

What is the best way to go through thousands of images in the Organizer to identify and place them in files?

Once I've placed a file, I just leave it in the entire catalog or a way indicate to me that it has been sorted?

As overwhelming, any tips/shortcuts/schemes, you can offer are welcome!

As I only have the version of the EP, here is some info on the organiser:

    https://helpx.Adobe.com/Photoshop-elements/how-to/use-elements-Organizer.html

Independent of how this feature works, you want to have your photos in one place and have a backup (second copy) somewhere else. All hard drives will not be successful at some point - some more early, some late - never trust to have your files in any safety devices if they are on a single disc. Once you have your sorted, it would be useful that you will organize/name/tag new photos immediately if the task is relatively short and simple. I copy my photos on my internal hard drive for my camera, take a quick look with preview to see who needs some changes and then decide where to put them - either drop them immediately after naming them or bring in an editing application and then file them away.

  • Catalog in Photoshop elements 11 to 14 update

I am running windows 10 and 11 Photoshop elements.  Recently, I had to reinstall the operating system.  I thought I had my catalog in a secure location on a different drive, but I guess it was on the main drive that has been wiped out.  After you have reinstalled Windows 10, I decided it was the right time to upgrade to Photoshop elements 14.  After the installation of 14, I found that it lacked the catalog file.  I still have all the pictures, but not the catalog that has the tag.  I tried to do a restore in 14 from a complete backup of Photoshop Elements I've done with version 11.  The backup could not find a *.tly file in the backup directory.  I also tried a restore with version 11, but it is also a .tly file.

The complete backup folder has what appears to be a copy of everything in my catalog.  There is even a file named catalog.buc.

Does anyone know a way I can recover my catalog file?

Thanks for any help you can offer.

In short, your files are still where they were on the same computer (no change for the reader) and you have a backup without a "backup.tly" file folder If this file is missing, which means that the backup was not successful; the .tly file is the last created when everything is saved in the backup folder, and the best way to verify that a backup is good is to check the presence of this file. Without it, the normal restore process is impossible.

Since you have a "catalog.buc" of PSE11, this file is a copy renamed your database file 'catalog.pse11db '.

Create a folder somewhere, like "my catalog restored", place a copy of the catalog.buc and rename it to catalog.pse11db.

PSE14, try the button "convert" in Catalog Manager after having sailed to the new folder.

No guarantee that it will work, but it's quick and easy to try.

  • Photoshop elements 14.1 (Windows 10) crashes after importing multimedia files in a catalog to convert

In addition to 12.1 PSE, I installed PES 14.1 and converted to catalog.pse12db catalog.pse14db without any error message.

Import... Download the pop media button to the top of the "Coppying - XX % Completed" progress window, which evacuated then at 100% and PhotoshopElementsOrganizer.exe crashes.

Kill PhotoshopElementsOrganizer.exe with the Task Manager and go to PSE14 show media files had nevertheless imported free of errors.

Adobe Photoshop elements 14.1 reinstalling does not fix the problem.

Open a new catalog and importing multimedia files in this new catalog.pse14db runs without error.

Catalog.pse14db contains the beginning marked more 6000 photos with Photoshop elements 3 (on my old PC with Windows 2000) and thus has been transformed several times during its history. The volume_table table includes readers/devices from the old PC, which do not exist in PCs today.

Although I'm not familiar with SQLite, using sqlite manager (add-on Firefox) help solve my problem (if it's really a question of catalog.pse14db)?

    Any ideas for me?

    Michel,

    I took a break.

Apart from that, I'm at a loss what to try next...

A few days before Pentecost, I resumed outages by install the trial version of Photoshop elements 13, conversion of catalog.pse12db into catalog.pse13db, from Photoshop elements 14.1 and transform this catalog.pse14db catalog.pse13db.

He has no problem now to import media files in this converted catalog.pse14db. I will continue using PSE14.1 with the converted catalog whatching to find errors.

I wonder why the repair function on the Catalog Manager solves this problem, and what will be the opinion of the team of Adobe.

    BTW

Import media files offer 'Get media' or 'Open' - what is the difference?

    Kind regards

  • Convert Adobe Photoshop Album catalog in Photoshop Elements 13

    Hello community!

I searched Google this question, but I have not found a response that helped me.

The old computer of my client with Windows XP operating system is getting replaced by a new one with Windows 7.

There is Adobe Photoshop Album on the former, which is no longer supported. My client has had more than 15'000 images on his old PC I have already copied on the new computer. Now, he wants his albums, tags and stuff from Adobe Photoshop Album, so I decided to install Photoshop elements 13 because of the elements Organizer tool.

Now that I've seen answers in the forums that sayed that all these information is saved in the catalog file "My Albums.psa", I already found on the old computer and copied to the new. Some people sayed that would work with the option "convert" to post-secondary studies, but it does not work for me, because the PSE does not see the .psa file. So, I tried to convert my file .psa with this tool, but in the middle of the State, he said that he failed and that I should try to fix the EPS file. I'm now stuck here, with several different solutions, and yet I don't know what to do now.

I read something about the structure of folders and images and records should be on the disk hard when you try to convert the .psa file. All the photos are on the new computer, but of course records are not the same on the new OS.

He would be happy if I find a solution as soon as possible of a person in the community.

Thank you and have a nice day!

Here is the link explaining the backup/restore process.

When the backup is completed successfully, you get a backup folder in which you have a renamed copy of all the files in your photo and your catalog, as well as a file named backup.tly.

The restore process, initiated from the new computer will allow you to choose the location where you want to restore your photo folders tree. Normally, the restoration is automatically followed by a conversion of the old catalog to the new format. In your case, you will need to use the conversion utility to resolve the issue of 64-bit.

If the backup is ok you should retrieve all your information tagging and folder organization. In your case I would choose restore to a new master folder and delete the copies that you did when you are sure that everything is ok.
