Physical to virtual clustering on vmware

Hi all

We plan to convert one of our (AD) domain controller in Virtual box, then must make grouping with another physical box (DHCP).

Can someone help me on this...

First need to know

1 can we do clustering on physical Virtaul-bix in a windows environment. ?

2. Keeeping (ADC) box of vmware domain controller is recommended... a... ? If so can we Virtaul virtual or physical to virtual clustering.

Note: The controller (ADC) of area intended only DHCP enabled no specified ROLE on this.

Thanks in advance

Concerning

Konate

What do P2V ADC?

This is a wrong approach

AD is a database structure that could not be stopped on a running system.

So the only way to make a coherent P2V, it is use a cold conversion (but you need the Enterprise Converter) or try to do it in Restore Mode Active Directory.

    Welcome to the community-

    (1) as long as the DRS HA cluster hosts see data even warehouses there will be no problem

    (2) once more, also longer than the nose can see data warehouses including the LUNS as the RDM it home should be without issue.

    (3) Yes multiple instances of the free version of ESXi can access LUNS shared - Yes it can be used in a production environment, but remember you can not handle the free hypervisor with vCenter.

  • Physical RDM virtual RDMs taken in charge in vSphere 6.0

Anyone know if this process in KB 1006599 works in vSphere 6.0 +?

VMware KB: Switching between physical and virtual compatibility modes in ESX/ESXi, a mapping of raw data

We are about to move a bunch of RDM to VMDK, but we need to convert physical to virtual RDMs first (you can live storage migration [to VMDK] with virtual RDM but not medical examinations). The other part of the story is that we are running vSphere 5.5 and are about to upgrade to vSphere 6.0

KB wrote on October 17, 2014 and I wonder if this is still the method support in vSphere 6.0 and that it has not been updated; or if it is no longer supported, in which case I have to do the migration before the upgrade?

    Thank you

I see no reason why this will not work in vSphere 6, given that the procedure is simply to remove the physical RDM disks and add them again as RDM virtual disks... In my view, that the KB is just outdated.

  • Physical vs Virtual DMZ

I implement the vCloud Suite of products in a multiclient environment and currently do not have a demilitarized zone.   In seeking to define what the DMZ network will look like, devrais I guess that I need one that is defined by a separation of physical networks such as the following:

(Outside of the physical <>- physical <>- DMZ-<>- Firewall firewall network <>- internal network)

Is to have a demilitarized zone in a conventional, as above, with two firewalls of both sides, always recommended?

Can I do the same thing with POSSIBLE and when is it appropriate to set my DMZ in software vs hardware?

    Hello

Well the following will work using only virtual Firewall:

    <->outside the physical switch <->outside Teddy <->VDS <->FW <->VDS DMZ <->FW <->Outside outside inside VDS

Physical switch <->Teddy <------------------------>VDS DMZ DMZ DMZ

Then attach a physical DMZ via the DMZ VDS and specific ports outside your chassis and a physical switch in the DMZ upstream.

Or the following if you want to combine physical and virtual firewall

    Outside <->physics FW <->DMZ Phsysical Switch <->Teddy <->pvNIC <->DMZ VDS <->FW <->DMZ VDS from inside the DMZ

If you want to use a DMZ or not depends on what you're really trying to do.

  • Convert physical SLES of use via VMware Player

    Hello!

At last VMware vCenter Converter Standalone Client. Any way to convert an area of SLES 11 physical to virtual for use via VMware Player? Tried with converter, but the only way I see is the VMware Infrastructure Server destination, do not. No option to choose a location of files etc.

    Any ideas?

    Thank you more, Alar.

My host system is Windows 7 Home Premium.  I put in place of virtual systems in VMWare Player (4.0.2 build-591240) for Windows 2000 and Windows 8 CP (among others), and all this hard work.  The host has its own antivirus (Avast) and firewall (ZoneAlarm more own Windows).  Network for virtual systems connections are bridged and all work very well to access internet and local network.  My question is: are the antivirus and firewall on the Windows 7 host sufficient or virtual systems also have their own antivirus and firewalls?

    PD

You can install Mac OS X Server v10.5 or later directly on a Virtual Machine under VMware Fusion, so there is no need to install in physically in first, then image to a virtual machine.

No you can not move it to a non Apple host OS as that would violate Apple SLA is the only product of VMware Server OS X 10.5 or later version will operate legally under VMware Fusion.  Any use on a product other VMware then VMware Fusion violates not only Apple ALS it would also require the prompt of illicit hacking so he can work.

  • Cannot import Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 with Hyper-V virtual machines to VMware ESXi 4.

    Hi team,

I use VMware vCenter Converter Standalone to import certain Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 with Hyper-V virtual machines to VMware ESXi 4, using another Windows Server 2008 R2 as the machine Agent Converter. Well, the agent connects to the Windows VM source very well (I used the net use command to create a line of conduct...), perhaps no chance to connect to the computer target VMware ESxi 4 and make the converter doesn't work...

    Following is the error message:

"Unable to connect to the host specified" from the converter agent machine. " It is perhaps because the host is not available on the network, there is a problem with the network configuration or management on this host services do not react. Check all components of converter to be able to connect.

So, my question is; is it possible to create a work around (like the net use Windows command above) to make possible the connection of the converter Agent on Linux VMware ESXi 4 machine Windows machine, to directly import the virtual machines of Windows Hyper-V to Linux VMware?

    Thanks in advance,

    It's even easier than that

    Use this: http://www.winimage.com/

Which will convert *.vhd *.vmdk, so you don't need to do all this... Of course, another way is to start the machines, leaving them on Hyper-V and go through the network and process virtual machine as physical machines and do a P2V on the network...

  • RDM (Raw Device mapping) physical or virtual?

I have VM and will add a hard drive.  RDM will be, but I was wondering what "Compatibility Mode" choose "physical or virtual?

before 3 years, I bought a win 7 pro PC - recently, I fee install 8.1... How to download and use my prior Win 7 Pro in a Virtual Machine in VMWARE PLAYER?

Unfortunately, you must have prepared a recovery disk in advance or use the one provided with your computer.

For 5 years, Microsoft made it fairly easy for users of the Windows 7 operating system to get reinstall media. If you have lost your support disc or installation retail collection; either it has been damaged or defective; You can download a copy of the edition that you have licensed from a membership site called Digital River. More recently, Microsoft ended the availability to reinstall media that you can download as a. File ISO in Digital River, which is a digital reproduction of an optical disc.

It was particularly convenient for people who could not easily get the manufacturer's recovery media, did not want to pay the fees required to get or preferred a clean configuration without the software packaged manufacturers or even a recovery partition does not work. It's easy to use, all you had to do was reinstall and reactivate using the product key located on the certificate of authenticity and download all the drivers on the manufacturers website.

Given that this option is no longer available, what are your options? See the article for more details:

  • Possible to have the physical and virtual units of ESA in the same group?

Given the scarcity of available information about virtual appliances, anyone have any ideas if it is possible to run a physical C160 and a C300V running the same version of ASyncOS in the same cluster.  I need to migrate from physical to virtual and has been evalualting the possbilty of the migration to the C300V from the C160 by adding a C300V to a cluster and then decommissioning the C160.

    Someone know about this?

    Thank you

    Nathan-

Yes.  You can, as long as the appliance and virtual appliance running the same AsyncOS.  The "clusterconfig" command will work in the same exact way.  You need to just make sure that your C300V has the featurekeys loaded in order to run the cluster.

  • How to activate the Internet connection on Windows Server 2003 is installed in the virtual machine in VMware Workstation 8?

I have Windows Server 2003 is installed on a virtual machine in VMware Workstation 8. I need it to learn and practice the use of the Active Directory. I've also set up 3 Windows XP workstations connect to it, which means that they can communicate with Server 2003. What is lacking is the Internet connection on all of them. When I run ping 8.8.8.8 in one of these virtual machines, I get, 'Destination host unreachable.'

I'm not sure, what if the problem comes from the settings in Windows or the settings of the virtual machine.

    Can someone help me?

Thank you, guys. I was finally able to put in place. It was quite an ordeal to deal with IP addresses and virtual networks. Here's how I did (in the screenshots) in case someone else needs it.

(I also confess that it is perhaps one of the ways to implement. Maybe there is an easier way to do it with DHCP...)

    1. in your computer where is installed VMware Workstation 8 begin the "Virtual Network Editor." It is located in the folder of installation of VMware Workstation. And implement the network following (VMnet2 in my case):

2 then in VMware Workstation itself in the virtual machine when Windows Server 2003 is installed set up two network as connections:

This one is for external access to the Internet:

And this one for intranet communications AD:

    3. then in the machine virtual de Windows Server 2003 set up what follows for two network adapters:

    For Internet access:

Then, you need allow this connection to share:

And then for the ad access to workstations (ensure that the static IP address is in the range specified in the virtual network over VMnet2 network editor). I've also set up DNS to 127.0.0.1 because I installed on this Windows 2003 DNS server:

    4. from the Windows 2003 VM try ping 8.8.8.8. It should work now.

    5. go to each workstation, in my case, Windows XP, each in its own virtual machine and set up the network in the VMware Workstation as follows:

    6. then in the virtual machine, configure the network connection for Windows XP workstation. Don't forget to assign a new static IP address for each workstation, which not coinside with IP of the domain (this IP address must come from the range specified in the virtual network over VMnet2 network editor):

    7. try first ping the domain, in my case ping 192.168.237.128. And then Internet, ping 8.8.8.8. The two should work!

    Continue with steps [5-7].
