Player BluRay/Streamer BDP-BX520 won't play MP4. Is there a work around or should I return it?

It's really frustrating.  I connected an external hard drive to the BDP-BX520.  There top of videos in format MP4, and the unit will not play them.  There are some that are in Bluray format which it will play from the same HARD drive without a problem.  Customer service told me it was just programmed to recognize the MP4.  I bought a Sony Smart TV about 3 months ago and it reads and plays the MP4 from the same HARD drive without any problem.  I had to change the format of the initial videos because they were in .avi and the Smart TV would not recognize them.  I thought I was OK with the MP4 format for the new Blu - Ray player because it worked with the TV.  I mean, how difficult is it for Sony allow the Blu - Ray player to recognize MP4?  Would it be just an update of the firmware?  Hoping I can get answers on it before you pull the plug and turn it over.  I also want to say that Sony customer service is completely dysfunctional and they do not seem to care.  Tried the live chat twice and it is never connected with anyone.  Telephone support was basically worthless.   Thanks in advance for the advice.

Hello tedgwathmey,

Thank you for your message.  Please check the formats of reading this article on page 40 of the instructions for use, according to the information available, it will support it as long it has the correct audio codecs which are AAFC for formats MP4, if its via a server or a NAS installation it will not support based on the operating instructions of your Blu - ray player.

We recommend that you follow the steps in the link below:

  • BDP - BX2 will not play Bluray Avengers

Avengers bluray will not play. Player says "invalid" and the display shows "cannot play the disc. Now, I did all the troubleshooting listed: firmware update (didn't even until now to do) - doesn't not work, plugged in external USB hard drive - has not worked, turned off live BD - does not work, disconnect the player for several minutes-does not worked, even bought a second disc bluray, thinking that it was a damaged drive (now I get this extra money) n ' has not worked. Talked to esupport online twice, first it was helpful, secondly a step so they told me to call tech. So I called and associated with all that was on the list of troubleshooting I had already done. It takes a minute and told me that the update of the firmware, I did is the most common. He was released in June or July 2012. Large. Bad news is unfortunately the Avengers movie just released 09/25/12, requires an update to be played. Frustrated is not the word to describe how I felt. There is no update and the person cannot say when it will happen. I never had problems before with discs bluray up to now. This single disc. I report to the person on the phone that I read that this happens to many people (films I've heard about just to name a few-Avatar, Zookeeper, John Carter, etc.) ensuring work my other blurays and the DVD version of the film works. It's the fact that you spend more money on a bluray disc because it's supposed to be better in the long run. They put a lot of goodies from additional film on it as well. Can't watch the extra stuff on bluray today. Can't watch it tomorrow. I have just to sit and wait to see if they will never be firmware update so that it will work. Why should really ever be a problem. Seriously a Sony fan for a long time. I don't know if it's going to be much longer.

Windows Media Player won't play the .zip files. How to see or play these files? I'm 67 and not tech savvy thanks for the help.

    Hello

ZIP files are compressed, so you need to unzip and then play the content if the
content is of type WMP files.

  • DVD player won't play a movie made with movie maker

I downloaded the movie maker and made the movie to mpeg and jpg saved on my computer to my Sony cybershot camera. He burned first to a DVD-R and nothing. So I saved a copy on my computer then burn a copy on a CD - R. Now, when I put the CD or the DVD-R in my Portable DVD player it must play fair? No, it's the 'bad disk '. When I put in another DVD player attached to my TV they return "not found no file supported" for CD - R and the 'bad disc' on the DVD-R. So neither my old portable DVD player or most recent DVD drive attached to the TV will play one of them.  I know the movies is on their as when I stick to the computer, Windows Media Player plays automatically. Even with the DVD-R. So, this is the DVD drive laptop who can not read or what I am doing wrong?

What you were doing only works if you play the CD or DVD on the SAME computer that the movie has been created.

It will NOT pay in another computer, it won't play in any DVD player.

What you need is to burn pictures on a DVD Maker, not a "movie maker".

    Issues related to the:

    1. what type of operating system are you using?

    2. in addition to the #1 question... Why did you have to 'download' a movie maker?

    3. If you want to burn a DVD movie (not), you'll need a DVD Maker, not a Movie Maker.

What you had described, the DVD movie you will play only on the same computer that created the film.

He will not play in another computer.
He won't play in any DVD player.

    For your information...

Vista has Windows Movie Maker included.  Creating Windows DVD is only available for Vista Ultimate and Vista Home Premium.

Windows 7 should install Windows Live Essentials, which provides programs of your choice, i.e. Windows live Movie Maker and Windows Live DVD Maker, among others.

  • My music files have changed in WMA format in Windows Media Player, and now my MP3 player won't play them.

My music files have changed in wma format in windows media player, and now my mp3 player won't play them.  can anyone help please.

    original title: Media Player

Download and install WMA to MP3 Converter, then install it, you can get it here... http://www.WMA-MP3.org/

Then select all the WMA files you want to convert, and then convert them to the MP3 Format.
The reason why they are WMA is because when you ripped the files on the disc to your pc, by default, Windows Media Player is configured to save in the Windows Media Audio (WMA) Format.
This default can be changed by opening Media Player and click on Tools > Options
Then select the Rip music tab
Format: select MP3 from the drop-down list.
    Click apply and OK.
Now the next time you rip a CD on your drive hard it will be automatically saved as an MP3 file.
  • I burned music from my computer to a CD - RW. Now I can play the CD in my computer, but it won't play on my CD player.

I burned music from my computer to a CD - RW.  Now I can play the CD in my computer, but it won't play on my CD player.  Any suggestions?  Is there a problem with the help of a CD - RW on a CD player?  I would like to know what format would be best universally to play in a CD player.

    Any help please!

original title: Burning CD music computer

Some CD players cannot read the CR - RW, especially older. Check the documentation of players for the type of files, it can read.

What you burn as - CD music or data (mp3 files). Yet once, some players older cannot read data discs (mp3).

The best universal format is to burn a music CD.

CD - RW has only need to put in shape if they have already been used and have given written on them.

Everything you do and you choose, always make sure that the disc is finalized IE. do not burn as a multisession. Once more, the older players cannot read a multisession disc.

BTW, here is a better alternative to WMP:

  • Project Windows Movie Maker won't play in Windows Media Player

I created a 'film' in Windows Movie Maker - not a bad little program.  I used to be a professional video tape, and you can do things with Movie Maker and that you can't do with the edition of tape cassette - even in a television station in a big city.

The film plays well in Movie Maker, but he won't play in Windows Media Player (Version 11).  I have Vista Home Version on my computer.

I want to be able to send e-mail to friends and family who do not have Windows Movie Maker - but have Windows Media Player (not sure which versions have all my friends).  Until now, whenever I try to play the movie in Media Player, I get the following message:

Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The player might not support the file type or does not support the codec used to compress the file.

When I click on the "get help from web" button, it takes me to this page:

This page does not give me the solution to the problem and gives me no option to download/install the codec I need.  I don't know what a codec is and don't really care to know.    I just need to know:

    Should which codec I?

    Where can I download it?

What are the two products of Microsoft.  Can they be compatible?  One of the options presented during "editing" the file is to be sent by e-mail.  Not much good if the e-mail recipient is unable to play.

I can also play the movie using Real Player or I-Tunes - but it of okay for me if they work in these players or not, since my friends and family would be no players on their computers.

Maybe you just save the project that creates a .mswmm file.
This file is no longer usable in Movie Maker for re - editing purposes.

Republish the project in the format of video .wmv and you
He can play in Windows Media Player.
