Possible advantage i7-860 vs i7-930: 16 GB of memory compared to 12 GB?

People,

I'm scary on a new build for CS5. I searched and read post after post and try to avoid cluttering up the jury with redundant threads. I'm quite new here and I would like to do my part by using before messages first. Many thanks to injury for his guides and others also.

My question today does not seem to have been addressed, about the advantage of having 16 GB on the LGA-1156 platform to 12 GB on the LGA-1366. We can skip the intro and go directly to the red text if this post seem you too long.

At this point, I gave up the fight to keep my Phenom X 4 system, especially since I have a Canon T2i which produces files in format AVCHD (thanks to all for the age of enlightenment on this issue). I realize also that other programs in CS5 are not accelerated as a body with its MEP. Therefore, it makes sense to make the jump to Intel for a platform of editing at the moment, if I want to use my AVCHD clips to straight-up without transcoding (which is something I can try a little before I sell my AMD bench). A fan of AMD, or like me a person with an AMD system, is not likely to see the situation change. Even the core 6 AMD 1090 t. does not appear huge gains in the benchmarks at the beginning.

I teach, and what got me on AMD has been the cost of the platform. Card mother and the DDR2 memory for added savings that I put four systems in my math class. A curiosity to try and keep my setup AMD for CS5 has to realize that I could get out my mother DDR2 with 16 GB memory (4 x 4 GB per module slots) max and fill all the slots for the performance memory twin in all modules. He had me wondering if the advantage of more memory could compensate for my slower CPU. Probably not, I now think that I should always empty my Phenom X 4 for Intel platform.

The interesting thing is that this consideration of memory 16/12 GB of the LGA-1156 versus platforms LGA-1366. It seems likely that if harm can live with 12 GB and hit the top of the benchmark with it, 12 GB sounds pretty good to me. But still, it would be nice to have the extra 4 GB.

There may be a compromise that bridges the best of both worlds?

The i7-860 use motherboards with 4 locations of memory. Newegg has the G.Skill DDR3 16 GB memory kit with timings of 7-7-7-18 $600 (good price, good timing). When purchased as part of a combo, you can get a decent LGA SATA 6/USB 3.0 - card mother 1156 for around $100. I love this approach, like paying $200 for a card mother just gripes me. (Which is probably stupid, because I think that if I intend using my CS5 Production Premium and my video equipment at their full capacity, I need to put together a platform that is not a bottleneck.) Why get hung up on the difference of $300 - $400 in platform when I have thousands in the rest of the things?)

On the otherhand, if you're not saving if possible all will crawl out-of-hand quickly...

So, what do you say? A 12 GB i7-930 platform, simply because of the memory? one prefer an i7-860 16 GB On system would see a generalized difference be it? The platform i7-930 has an advantage on the i7-860 in a dimension that could exceed the extra memory? Or don't Pr as a memory ranging from 12 to 16 GB make a noticeable difference in ease of use program, as during treatment, such that small loss in other areas paled in comparison? I could live with slightly longer render times, etc. If additional memory may make the program more accessible. From what I've read here-n-yon, ranging up to 16 GB makes a difference. But what kind of difference? Game change?

I noticed there is no one i7-860 of anywhere near the top of the PPBM chart, which gives me pause. Also, I know about the update of the X 58 ' Gulftown 6 core CPU boards. But I'm going to worrry on this subject after I see how my first rig - I shoot short clips to school and that you don't have to change the length of the films.

Bottom line-anyone here, if the construction of a new rig, would use the i7-860 on the i7-930 simply because the 860 uses a motherboard with 4 memory slots, so granting of the advantage of the 16 vs.12 GB memory? I am not 24GO in x 58 ' on board without worrying, so the choice is firming rather well. Slower platform to 16 GB resisted faster platform with 12 GB of memory.

The nature of Premiere Pro and its needs to answer the question, or the answer fell to General Assembly as render times, etc.? Someone has cause to think that the extra 4 GB will do Pr humming better in some important aspects?

We will relax and consider for a moment what type of disk activities take place during a normal editing session:

1 OS access

2 maintenance tasks made to processes and services

3. access to the files of Tenp

4. access to the Page files

and forget immediately because there is not that you can do about them, apart from the reduction in the number of services and processes, in other words the system setting and increasing memory.

Now what remains during an editing session is:

5. access source material

6. access to the files indexed, consistent and spikes in the media cache

7. access to the files of pointer in the media cache database

8 temp file access

9. access to the preview files

10 PR files access

11. access to the plugin files

12 service Manager access

13. access to the QT service

14 dynamic access Link

15 etc.

And in the meantime internal Windows continues. If the old adage that each disc of modern day is fast enough to stream video, then that in itself is correct, can become incorrect if you have enough video streams, with effects or transitions. The duration of the time line is not really relevant here.

There is no clear cut answer that you are looking for a raid, too much depends on your style of editing and workflow. But in general, I recommend raid when you have only 3 or 4 discs (including start/OS drive) but advise for the raid when you use disks of 5 or more. Adobe forums: no RAID or RAID, this is the...

With a limited number of available disks, raid0 is the only option you have and raid mobo is more than enough. A hardware controller is needed for this.

I suggest try you it with your hardware source on your system without a raid. If you find that you have problems with scrolling through your timeline, quick, movement of ICT, so take a look at raid, otherwise, great, your system is fast enough for your application.

    Hi all!

So, I read in this forum on this subject and have seen mixed results.  I bought this computer a few years ago, generally pretty happy with it but I ran out of space and the battery is dying.  I am trying to decide whether to revise it or buy new.   That's what I want to do:

Add 2nd mSATA SSD in the second slot.  I saw a post like this HD is compatible but that's a post.  Around, I've read that others have had problems by adding a second SSD.  Some people can not access, some people, it shows only a 128 GB extra, in fact, some have a BSOD.   The post I saw replaced the original disc to help one of them and adding a second drive so the two HDs were of the same brand.  Is it a better idea?  Also, all the posts I've seen on this topic were two years old and dealt with Windows 7.  Windows 10 it will make it harder to do?

I have also upgraded the memory of 8 GB and add a new battery.

  • Great clip! What is a microsd card? Is this possible?

I am owner of a clip of 2 GB and I have never had any problems with it. My daughter has the "rocket" of 8 GB and it's cool, but nothing like the video for many reasons.  Is it possible to make a clip with a microsd card expandable memory?  Of course, it would be a new invention from sandisk, with a small player and firmware just curious and shouting the idea if this is possible.

I doubt that SanDisk will add MicroSD card capacity. Yah, it would be nice, but I wouldn't hold your breath waiting.

The good news is that you can get up to a Clip of 8 GB these days. I think that Wal-Mart is still for less than $70. or so.

.. .and I heard talk of a possible model 16 GB.

It will do nothing harmful to your operating system.

The folders and files in the temp/tmp folder are only temporary files and folders created during internet browsing or during the installation of programs.

  • The advantage of using EPMA?

now, I know there are many defects using EPMA if planning is very small. However, what is the advantage of using EPMA, here's what I think: 1. If there is a lot of demand and you want to develop at the centre, EPMA is bettter. 2 EPMA application can use the model and the existing dimensions, and easier to develop a new application, moreover, diemsion library is the reusable dimension please correct me, thank you!

    Hello

I think that you have the correct idea, the advantage is easier to manage hierarchies through a gui advanced compared to the classic, you can share the dimensions across not only the planning applications but HFM and essbase (albeit with essbase when it improves the epma)

  • Details of allocation memory (cRIO vxWorks)

    Hello world

A question about memory allocation when dealing with arrays, strings and string array.

-I have to build and produce log files of the ASCII (LAS 2.0) on a cRIO.  The cRIO already done tons of other operations and avoiding excessive fragmentation of memory and overall memory usage is an important consideration for us, but CPU is also a limited resource... This new requirement is an addition to "everything" the cRIO already, and I know from experience that manages large data and logging as string files are taxing on the CPU, but also memory, so suggestions are welcome.

Worst?) If I build the file whole by concatenation and set up the content of the file as one long string through one shift-register/ring to another, as it goes, more which I think is the worst possible way to do it from a management perspective of memory.

(Better?) If I build the content of the file line by line and create an array of strings where each element of the array corresponds to a single line, it will be better? As each item is a variable length (String), I don't know how the memory manager manages these tables? Ideally, this is a list of pointers, so that each element (of variable length of the string) is its own segment (contiguous) memory vs all elements in the array in a single contiguous block? If so, that would mean that an array of strings would require nearby less memory than the same data represented as a 1 d of U8 array?

An advantage I can think of the approach of the matrix (or line) is when it is time to write the data in the file, I could write each element of the array individually, once again, the idea is that there should be less overhead to manage the lines individually vs a giant stream on the disk memory?  I could then possibly construct/write of the file into blocks so that I'm never content of "whole file" in a row of table...

Better yet? -Anyone have any ideas?

Best? n ' matter who feel that they have completely tamed this beast? Do you want to share?

As a mark of separation, unfortunately, all the data that will eventually be the file do not exist when the file is first created (trace-additional scans are added as soon as they are available throughout the day), and while the raw data itself in the LAS files are in the last section (so new raw data can be just added to the file of string without loading / parsing of the file) , there are some areas in the previous sections that may need to be updated (for example the tag STOP in the ~ section W), I was counting on the manipulation by a number of bytes for the fields that must be updated after the creation of follow-up, but if anyone has experience overview they can share on this subject as well , I am to listen to (in the case otherwise, I'll probably keep these counters in a list of attributes for quick recovery variant and simple because I maintain log files individual person well and therefore need a way a little more organized to follow that just a table or similar).

Like that everyone would just learn to consume newspapers of PDM files we recommend that rather than insisting on all these other formats. :/

(For a similar project (WITSML files), I ended up finding a relatively significant performance gain by building a large part of the ASCI file content as possible from the constant matrix U8, but luxury with this project was so much the structure/content of a static file that it was very, not to mention the WITSML requirement was for a scan/trace by file) , so it was create and forget.  It's been a HUGE calculate time and the difference in CPU usage.  Not sure this makes a real difference as far as its use/allocation of memory went other than constants of course being constant/charge with the VI and possibly optimizations the compiler as a constant U8 is potentially easier to work with than the strings (and string constants?).)

I am logging the data locally on the disk with my different projects cRIO, because Yes, people just can not and will not use the TDMS files. What I do is I pre-allocate my paintings of strings - for example one the point current data to be logged out of the text file is an array of strings of 1 d, 1 item per channel, I have created by first creating an array of fixed size U8 (INIT 1 d array, say 16 bytes), conversion to string and then initialize my array of strings (INIT 1 d array again).

I keep this saved allocated string of 1 d table change. When it comes time to write a new line to my account, I browse the table, using a loop FOR and Place the item Structure (not), new values in connects.

I do everything with CVT or variables shared so I just read the tags by program and do a 'chain of fractional' on them. To write the string in the file I keep a last number of bytes and simply go to the file position and write.

So far I didn't problems with leaks memory or fragmentation - you see the largest continuous block only decrease and then remain constant.  My systems typically run a week to a month between resets.

It sounds like you are already planning to do this: work with arrays of pre-allocated chain. I'd say it's the way to go.

  • Intel 4790 k, 6700 k or k 5820?

I'm building a computer because my old laptop reliable isn't cutting it anymore. I'm torn between 3 transformers. The three processors in that I'm looking are the Intel i7 4790 k, Intel i7 6700 k or Intel i7 5820 k. The problem with the 4790 k is it is a little old and new 6700 k and the better 5820 k will simply be the best dish. I really feel like the 6700 k but all the world has absolutely no idea when the ship and 5820 k its going is a little out of my budget with the x 99 premium. So my question is: can I deal with a k 4790 and build my PC before I risk a drive failure, wait the k of 6700 which would be optimal, or can I throw hearts through the window and spend a ton on the 5820 k and x 99 Council? I'll make the play of light (I know, gaming, xD), 1080 p and future 4 k @ 100mpbs and a decent amout of work After Effects and Photoshop as well. Thank you!

forget the 4790 k, other platforms will be much better. the 99 x i7 - 5820 k will cost around $120 dollars more for the motherboard & cpu on skylake. If you have decided to 4 k, then you should try to get the fastest cpu possible for your budget. x 99 platform has also more memory locations, in order to allow several upgrades memory later. for games, it shouldn't matter much between the CPU of as games are for most drives nowadays GPUs.

the advantage of the i7 - 6700 k is the 4 cores at high clock frequencies. after effects will need a little less ram as there are less than hearts to feed. so if you are tight on the budget from 16 GB of memory, AE would allocate more RAM by thread with the nuclei of 6 4 hearts vs. most of the adobe software has bad programming, which leaves portions of the software impossible to properly multi-thread. so in the programs and situations of the i7 - 6700 k will perform similar or better than the x 99 platform. in some news reports, intel is supposed to be gone a little further with skylake to apply applications not multi-threads between all hearts. This should not be necessary with the 64-bit software, but software as adobe which does not correctly the code, force these types of workarounds to solve software problems. some points of reference I've seen of skylake on a single thread, suggest this new feature does not work or is not really there. so, maybe, these reports are not true, which is too bad.

If you say you have a packaged application that behaves badly, but you do not have the ability to modify the code, what possible benefit could you derive the session tracking. Imagine that find you a session you must trace to see the error. Suppose in addition that the problem is related to the locks. We'll go even further and suppose you can understand which statement is the cause of the error of the track (you won't know what another session holds the lock or what return according to which any other statement filed to acquire the lock so that it's not particularly useful information). We will really go out on a limb and think that you get a brilliant flash of insight to know only the query that was unable to acquire the lock, and suddenly, you understand fully the application, each application behavior and each line of code. What would you do with this magical vision? Your only option would be to wait for the vendor of the application to provide you with a code fix or you say how you have installed or configured incorrectly the application.

And I'm pretty certain that you are going to do this magic idea. And I'm sure if you have installed the incorrect application, it's because you refused to read the documentation of the supplier provided. In this case, you'd be much better read the documentation now rather than go down that particular road.

What possible advantage you would get if you had to solve all your problems tracing?
