  • Reduce the size of the folder Windows/install in Windows 7

I found many messages touting the benefits of a utility that MS formerly offered to reduce the size of the folder Windows/Installer for earlier versions of Windows called MSIZAP.exe.  Of course, this is not recommended and has been replaced by a FixIt.

My main drive has grown to use 60 GB!  I install most everything I am able to install it on other players.  On the 60 GB, the Windows folder using 23.6 GB.

    Hello

The Installer folder may be located in the folder C:\Windows\Installer. (Folder install is a hidden folder).

We can delete the files in the folder, but they will be required when you try to uninstall some programs that installed with Windows Installer. So after you delete these files, we will need to reinstall or repair a related program if they cannot be uninstalled with error "needs to uninstall previous installation".

However, instead of delete the folder of Windows install, I should delete you them using Disk Cleanup.

  • Reduce the size of the VM disk?

    Hello

I have a client who has an ESXi 4.0. The person who put up, set up with disc 3 x 1 TB, with 1 data store spans 3 discs, without redunancy, raid, or backup. This is my understanding of the functioning of data warehouses, that it is a bad set up.

I want to recreate data warehouses, so there is a 1 store of data per disc, and I've only another 1 TB drive to do this, but one of the two virtual machines is defined with a size of virtual disk of 1 TB and I tried to move it to another disk of 1 TB, and it failed during the process I think because of lack of space. I was going to try to create new virtual discs and clone the readers through, but does not support the previous technology implemented servers with dynamic disks, instead of base and Acronis cloning to dynamic disks.

So I wanted to know if there is another way to reduce the size of the virtual disk of the virtual machines, so I can recreate data warehouses. Or if anyone has any other suggestions for how can I do to recreate data warehouses without losing the servers.

Any suggestions would be helpful and let me know if I need to provide more information, thank you!

Hello and welcome to the communities.

You can use VMware Converter to reduce the size of the ramdisks.

  • Reduced block size but no big change on the disk storage

    Hi all

This is my first post on this forum and I hope that I won't have any rule of Recommendation to report a question completely distinguish...

I need your advice on the disk storage of a BSO cube, here are the details:

Make tests on a cube of OSI, I reduced the size of the block of 76 032' to 11'232 bytes. Then, I was interested to check if the disk storage has been reduced... So, I took the same set of data and loaded into the old structure as well as in the new structure. For both structures, I have applied exactly the same calc script + has not changed any other settings (such as "cache" for example).

When I checked the results, I was really surprised because with the same set of data, it must 13go to the old structure and still 10 GB for the new even if the size of the block is really small... I've heard that "compression" could play a role here, but except for the compression, you have an idea of the reason why the disk storage is not smaller whith the new block size?

Thanks in advance for your different tips and best regards,
    Laurent
P.S: the density is not very good because I tried to do tests on a smaller data set than the real...

^ ^ ^ You just stated that all of the data is not representative and is actually smaller than reality. So that means you load (approximately) the same set of data in large blocks and small blocks. Guess what happens when it is compressed...

To answer your question, the real test would be, for a number of limited but representative of blocks (good luck with that one), blocks of size reduced and complete tests. That will give you real world block size.

BTW, I'm guessing / hoping that you did all members of dense upper level dynamics. There is almost never (well, sometimes, but really very rarely) a reason to store the dense upper limbs at level. A large part of the time forms dense member of lower level can also be set to dynamic.

    Kind regards

  • How to reduce the size of the virtual disks on Fusion 3.1.2 my W7 64 bit

A few months ago, I created a DVD install a virtual machine in Windows 7 64-bit 120 GB. I never checked the disk space until a couple of weeks and now I have two hard files over 160GB with a .vmwarevm. I have never created all the files component snap so I am confused how it happened and how to fix this?  After all, a MacBook Pro's as much disk space

OK it looks like the Virtual Machine on which you have is "/ users/dbaps/Virtual Machines.localized/Springer31.vmwarevm" and it is only using the Springer31.vmdk virtual hard disk that is in the Document Virtual Machine Package, so I can't tell you where both .vhd files of ~ 165GB come so you'll have to deal with this on your own.  You have Parallels installed at a certain time or do you have them created with Windows 7?

If you have VMware Tools installed and no snapshots you can use VMware Tools in the OS invited to shrink the virtual hard drive and it should reduce the size of that Windows Explorer shows how much is used.

Also, you have assigned 4 CPU cores of the Virtual Machine and over the commitment of the processor cores will slow things down so I would attribute no more then two and that you set for 1/2 of RAM to the Virtual Machine host and this of course uses more then what you have assigned, some for the purpose of merger of VMware and some video RAM so you use really ~4.4GB of RAM just for VMware Fusion and the Virtual Machine.

  • Size of the disk for guest Win Server 2008 R2 can be reduced?

I have a thick provisioned 100GB size I want to reduce to 60 GB. The guest operating system is Windows Server 2008 R2. Does anyone have an experience by reducing the size of the disk with this guest operating system?

I saw comments on the use of the converter to reduce the size of the disk, but the last Converter Standalone Client does not seem to support Windows Server 2008 R2.

I tried to convert the virtual machine to a model and then to deploy a new virtual machine for the model too, but if I do that I'm still not able to change the size of the disk.

The guest operating system is Windows Server 2008 R2. Does anyone have an experience by reducing the size of the disk with this guest operating system?

    VM converter can do.

  • Reduce the size of the virtual hard disk

Are there any known issues with the reduction of the size of a virtual hard drive, I have a machine that has been installed with plenty of disk space, but space is not needed now, so I was going to reduce the size in the settings. Any questions?

So I guess you want to reduce the nominal size of the virtual disk. The VMware Converter Standalone user to achieve this. You choose your comments as the source machine and create a new clone of him while reducing the size of the hard.

  • How to reduce the size of the virtual disk

Is it possible to reduce the size of the virtual disk to a virtual machine.  If so, how?  We tried the shrink option in the VMware tools running on the virtual (Win2003) computer, but it didn't reduce the size of the unit at all.

VMware Converter is probably the best option for fret.

  • Reduce the size of the virtual disk RAID 5

I have Windows Server 2003 is installed on a virtual disk PERC H700 RAID-5. Total size of the disk is 5.5 TB. The problem is that WinServer 2003 cannot use the disk due to the MBR 2 TB limit (and I can't convert to GPT without destroy all partitions, which is what I try to avoid). Since 3.5 TB of drive space is unallocated (and reconciliations), is there a way to reduce the size of the virtual disk to remove this space which can not be used anyway? Then, I could by using the remaining capacity to create a new virtual disk that can be set up as GPT and access the space through it (or two new virtual drives 2 TB and 1.5 TB in size). I know that you can expand a virtual disk, but you can a shrink?

No, you can develop most of the virtual drives, but you will not be able to reduce them.

You will have to start on this subject, creating a VD less than 2 TB for boot/OS disk, then the rest can be used in an another VD.

  • Conversion of a file server to reduce the size of disk - things to consider?

    Hi all

This weekend I plan to do a conversion, v2v of our file server to reduce one of the discs of 600 GB to 250 GB and also change the disk type of thin thickness.  I expect it to take quite long time so want to make sure I have to work on my first attempt!

I will warn users that the file server is not available during this period, there is always the danger someone could connect remotely and connect during the conversion process (they have roaming profiles/home folders stored on this server).

My main concern is that if a user connects and modifies a file, etc. in their home folder during the process, it may fail.

My boss has proposed to vcentre server and the server I want to convert in one vlan private during the process, so that no one can connect, but I am a little concerned that the servers may need to communicate with controllers of domain/dns during the process?

Is someone able to provide advice regarding my concerns?  Especially if someone connect/change a file on the server of files during the process.

    Thank you

    Hello

If you really do a v2v conversion, you must stop the machine before the conversion. So nobody will be able to connect (obviously). You seem to plan a p2v (treats converter powered on virtual machines the same as physical devices). I suggest that you consider making a volume based v2v turned off (if it's a Windows machine because it seems to be)

If for some reason, this is not possible, can you consider to stop the 'Server' service during the conversion? Thus, all actions will become unavailable.

Note: You must have a converter agent deployed before that.

  • Why can't I reduce the file size of virtual disk?

Workstation help 8.0.4, why is the file size of virtual disk for my more bigger than the amount of space used within the instance instance?

The instance (Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit) HARD drive is 40 GB... He is currently using 28.6 GB of this space.

But the hard for instance file is 34.5 GB size - it is more than 20% larger.

I defragmented the drive on the instance.

I defragmented and compacted file hard (via the 'vmware-vdiskmanager' command line utility)

    I defragmented the host drive.

Any not really - I'm just curious as to why I can't get it down to a smaller size (mainly to speed up backups)

Narrowing of a virtual disk is done in two steps. Unused disk space must first be cancelled in the comments, what OS, then blocks not null the hard are copied to a new file hard. With VMware Workstation 8, you can start this process in the VMware Tools window (right-click the icon in the system tray)

  • Reduce the size of VM virtual disks?

I have a virtual machine under ESX 3.5 that has two virtual drives from 20 GB and tracks CentOS 5.3.  I would like to reduce the total size of the virtual machine to a handset of 40 GB to about 10 to 20 GB. I have a ton of free space on existing partitions.

    Here's my usage:

1 K-blocks used available use % mounted on file system

    / dev/sdb1 20807184 5767084 13991460 30%.

    / dev/sda2 20807216 1135120 18623456 6% / show

    / dev/sda1 101086 29351 66516 31% / Boot

    tmpfs 1948132 0 1948132 0% / dev/shm

How can I reduce these partitions, then the size of the ramdisks?

I advise to use the free VMware Converter. This is probably the cleanest way and.

    Kind regards

  • Reduce the size of disk server comments

    Hello

I have a Windows Server 2003 on an ESX 3.0.2 guest host.

I need to decrease the amount of space allocated to the comment server.

I tried to change the disk space and click OK... it gives me errors so I guess it worked, but it has never made any changes which it.

Am I missing a step here?

    Thank you!

I have this plugin installed on VCenter but when I run the wizard Reconfig it does not give me the ability to reconfigure a drive.

Number 1, the virtual machine must be off the statement reconfigures.  Second, you can reconfigure a machine for the VM name, etc... but there is no option "reconfigure a player."  Reconfigure means name, CD key, that sort of thing.

To resize the player, you must EXPORT or convert the virtual machine as ANOTHER virtual machine of the size drive you want, which also means that the virtual machine must be turned off.
