PowerCLI download guest OS version reported by VMware tools set up versus when VM created or altered.

in my inventory and what RV tools scripts out I get the version of the OS that is selected for the virtual machine to change settings - options - version.  I would also like to produce a list of the version of the OS that signal the VMware tools in order to find those with poorly chosen OS and fix them.  I tried to. ExtensionData.config.Tools and I do not see the operating system listed there, anyone know where it is?

aside, where can note I find a resource that shows what options are available for each command get, such as get-host and get - vm?  I learn a lot about what I can find in powercli by running this command and explore those who returns VMware.Vim..., but would allow me to save a lot of time to be able to just go get him.

  • Intall the guest operating system updates or VMware Tools first?

I have the OS (Windows 2000 Professional), which comes with all the major updates to release all the way until 2010. Goes for the installation order, do I install the first updates (requires Direct X 9.0 c as well), or the first VMware tools?

    Thank you for all responses.

I'm not aware of a formal recommendation. I usually install VMware Tools after the installation of the guest OS and never encountered any problems with this approach to date.

  • How to install VMware tools on RHEL server when it is running only on virtual cnsole (means no graphics system)?

    Hi friends

I have a requirement to install the VMware tools in RHEL6 server to synchronize the time with the host ESXi5.1. but the RHEL6 server is running on the Virtual Console, this means that I have not installed any graphics packages, installed with packages only, database server as we do in production servers.

When I try to install the VMware tools on this system, I get the error like this:

How can I do? is there an alternative way to achieve the requirements?

  • VMware Tools Core Service crashes when monitor_control.restrict_backdoor is enabled

    Installation program:

    VMware Workstation 7.0.1 build 227600

    Host: Vista x 64

    Comments: XP x 32 SP3

    monitor_control.restrict_backdoor = 'TRUE '.

VMware Tools Core Service blocks all the minutes. Installation of comments is a new clean install with VMware tools installed.

Looks like a problem of VMware tools on XP because it works fine with Vista as guest OS.

Is there a fix for this bug?

    Mash says:

It's strange because VMware Workstation still tells me to install VMware Tools when this setting is enabled.

You must ignore it.  The monitor_control.restrict_backdoor option is not supported and can lead to inconsistencies.  I recommend that you not install VMware Tools in a virtual machine that uses this option.

  • Prevent installation of the vmware tools

    Hello!

Is it possible to prevent the installation of VMWare tools when creating a new machine in the Workstation 6.5.1?

I want to test the OS which is absolutely clean and it seems that VMWare tools are installed automatically when you create the virtual OS ISO. This is quite annoying, because after installing the tools is no longer a "clean" image

As continuum wrote, under normal circumstances, the tools will get installed automaticall if you create a guest (some people like exactly that, and it is often asked here how to achieve this).

Source of your guests? Are they have cloned, installed costs or...?

  • How to install VMware Tools in Ubuntu guest with no Internet connectivity?

I need to install VMware Tools in a Guest Ubuntu (10.04) running in VMware Player.

The machine on which it is running has no internet access; It is part of an isolated network.

I know there are a LOT of instructions on how to do it, and it seems that they all begin with "mount your ISO file...". ' or "click"Install VMware Tools..."."

Of course, I have not and cannot find a file ISO of VMware tools for Ubuntu.  I admit that I can be looked in the wrong place, but I watched several times and have spent many hours on it.   I tried Open VM Tools as well and followed the instructions included, but orders did not produce the responses described.

When I click on "Install VMware Tools" the machine just made several attempts to connect to a server that will never happen.

Although it does not prove that I know what I'm doing, I installed VMware Tools on several hosts of Windows XP.  For some reason, I was able to find many versions of VMware Tools for Windows ISO.  The installation worked everytime with very little hair loss.

Thanks for any help on this eternal question.

You will need to download the ISO images for the VMware Tools installation media at least once, on a computer with internet access.  Player menu--> File--> Preferences of the player.  Click on the button download now all components.  Once complete, there will be 6 ISO files in the folder of the player.  You can copy them to the same location on the PC that you are currently underway.  Then, you can follow the instructions to install VMware Tools in a Linux Guest, located in the help file.

  • AutoFit Guest stopped working after update the VMWare Tools

I've updated Workstation version 8 to 10.  I had several virtual machines of Windows 7 x 64 I then updated with the latest VMWare tools (v9.6.1.1378637).  Now, one of the virtual machines will not automatically resize correctly.  (Three other virtual machines with the same o/s resize correctly and with Windows Server 2008 resizes correctly.)  Workstation is set to Autosize > Autofit guest.  The resized correctly VM before VMWare Tools has been updated.  In other words, the auto resizing feature worked for the virtual machine within the 10 workstation when the previous version of VMWare Tools was installed.  Upgrade VMWare Tools triggered behavior.  When I use the 'Fit Guest Now' view of the virtual machine command flashes but does not resize.  When the my computer window is resized, the prompt is not resized.

    I tried the following:

    • Uninstalled and reinstalled VMWare tools.
    • Confirmed VMWare Tools (vmtoolsd.exe) is set to start automatically and runs.
    • Changed the display of the virtual machine settings to a custom resolution and then to 'host to use setting for monitors '.
    • Attempted to change the resolution of the guest, but he won't go high 1920 x 1440 (it should be set to 2556 x 1496 based on the resolution of the other virtual machines that resize correctly).

    Thanks for your suggestions!

Update of material compatibility on the virtual machine to which auto resize has stopped working has helped auto resize again.  Hardware compatibility was 6, 5-7.x.  I've updated to be compatible with 10.

The question remains as to why three other similar virtual machines (with the same compatibility level of 6, 5-7.x) should not be updated so that the automatic resizing to work.

I didn't want to answer my own question but hope this helps people who have encountered this particular problem.

  • What is the VMware Tools version / build number in ESXi 4.1U2?

    Hello world

As far as I know, the version/version number of "VMware Tools" in ESXi 4.1U1 ("4.1 Update 1") is "Version 8.3.7, build-341836" (at least for Windows virtual machines). "

Can someone tell me if the version/version number of "VMware Tools" in 4.1U2 ("4.1 Update 2") ESXi is different? I read the "Release Notes" for vCenter Server 4.1 update ESXi 4.1 Update 2 - http://www.vmware.com/support/vsphere4/doc/vsp_esxi41_u2_rel_notes.html - and 2 - http://www.vmware.com/support/vsphere4/doc/vsp_vc41_u2_rel_notes.html - but I did find the information on this subject.

  • "VMWare Tools: unmanaged" is displayed on the summary VI Client.

    Hello

I'm building a Virtual Appliance using VMWare Studio 2.0, with Ubuntu 8.04 - 1 as the guest operating system. This unit will be certified 'VMWare Ready'... If all goes well...

The problem is the VMWare tools are reported as "Not run" in the client summary VI. Anyone know if this is acceptable? What are the downsides to it being 'unmanaged '? VMWare tools that were installed were the default values for this particular os guest, who are the open-vmware-tools.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

As the author of the test VRVAP matrix / guidelines, I am happy to answer:

"Unmanaged" is a valid state for VMware Tools and indicates that some other mechanisms that the classic "interactive/scriptable" VMware Tools installer engine is responsible for maintaining components ' tools '.

It's what I expected to see most of the new virtual appliances, subject to the evaluation/validation via the ready program virtual VMware.

Usually the State "unmanaged" is triggered by one of the three cases:

    • Open VM tools

    • VMware Studio 2 supplied with OSP

The salient bit is at the end of the TC 2570 VMware Tools - General.

The basic set of operating system components invited side feature called "VMware Tools" MUST be present, activated and functioning properly. Additional information defining this requirement are covered in case of test 2571 by 2579. The version number and compilation VMware specific ABI to use Tools are not prescribed.

Je would like to know What packages are needed for a correct installation et configuration of these Tools.

Also, I have would like to know If there is a Ubuntu repository where to download and install the latest version of these Tools.

    Thank you

    Good bye

What is the difference between VMware Tools and Open Virtual Machine Tools?

Copy and paste this question into Google!

By chance, you have your repository in order to always download the latest version?

I use only VMware tools and always uninstall first Open Virtual Machine Tools and also use - clobber-kernel-modules = if necessary when installing the VMware Tools on the distributions that have Open Virtual Machine Tools installed.
