  Then I fell on an old desktop pc into a garage sale today. About $ 50 with screen 24 '' and relatively new keyboard and logitech wireless mouse. A good deal, I thought. Get it home, recovered it and want to know what makes it tick. Learn a few online on the card, but it does not say if it is a 64-bit or 32-bit system. While it says 1 GB memory max (and 1gig there) it has 4 slots and should be able to read at least 2 GB of memory with a 32-bit system (I suspect that it is).
  Can someone give me some hard answers, and maybe I could save this oldtimer and it give a new life as a presenter of media for my flat screen :-)

  Yes, it only a 32-bit computer (very hard to find computer 64 bits, 12 years ago). Confirm the following statement:

  Drawback: As SR1000 line is intended for the general public users, you will not see the configuration options for a second hard drive or the latest and greatest graphics card. Also, while some of the AMD Athlon 64 processors have flowed down into the mainstream, HP offers only 32-bit Athlon XP chips on SR1000Z models. Your choice for group a monitor is similarly limited, with LCDs or available in sizes of greater than 17-inch CRT screen.

  I spend more money to upgrade this machine especially for the presentation of the flat screen.  Keep the keyboard and screen, then Chuck in a locker.

  Hi can anyone help? I have a (HP) Compaq Presario SR1000 and its failure to start. Worked perfectly since I bought it a few years ago. Close last night and does not properly start this morning.

  Problem is that push the button of power as usuall and fans start emits light at the front of the computer, but there is no noise readers activation and does not raise the monitor to come. It's like a processor or software problem. I was wondering if anyone has had similar problems or know what may be the potential cure.

  Thanks for the suggestion, but it turns out to be the graphics card that failed. If new more powerful graphics card and everything back to normal now. Thanks for the help.

  While this model number does not seem to be complete, the PC scored in this series says he is old enough.  Probably can't boot from USB due to age.  I am cuious why the question, however, as you can start on installing windows 7 DVD.  In addition, a warning - systems that old, it may not work very well with Windows 7.  It should install OK, however.

  Recovery media is usually specific model number, if both PC is the same range of model numbers, so they work.

  I visited the site of Compaq and HP for the drivers but they all list the following computers:

  I tried to download drivers from the SR1000IL for my SR1000, but none worked.

• Compaq Presario SR1150NX: Error, disk Compaq recovery dead

  Hello, I have a desktop Compaq Presario SR1150NX of 2005. Everything works well in it and we emptied dust not for long. But then, one day I went to start it it says a critical system file was missing. I'm confused at first. After half an hour, creating a USB disk only to find it didn't work, I then had to use the Windows XP Recovery Console. Then after I fixed it it still didn't start because it couldint find the file. But when I start the computer, it shows me that, if I press F10, it boots into system recovery mode. OT started and told me that I could boot into windows xp system recovery. But in the middle of this, the computer overheats and shuts down. When I tried to turn it on again it gave me a disc error AND when I boot in recoervy, it's just bluescreens. Now when I turn on the computer, it does nothing.

  Is there any where where I could download a recoervy tool to open the hard drive in order to get the data on the drive and get a new drive? Or get a Windows recovery disc?

  When you connect, Windows will ask your permission to run 'check disk' ('CHKDSK') to review and fix any problem of file system.

  I think that the corrupt currently-system files on the hard drive is causing startup problems you reported.

  Re-connect the desktop "repaired" disk drive, and then try again.

• Video stops or doesn't show even "in power saving Mode" on Presario S4000V

  I have a Presario S4000V with a PNY GeForce FX5500 DDR 128 MB video card. The display does at all when starting or stops anywhere from start up through successful display Windows. When the screen turns off, press any button on the front panel on the monitor to display 'in Power Save Mode press any key on keyboard or move mouse', but none of the measures have no effect.

  Move the video card to a different location or using another monitor makes no difference and I can't find any setting to change in the CMOS Setup or properties which solves the problem of display Windows.

  Any suggestion would be appreciated gratefully.

• Presario stuck in Mode without failure.

  I have a Presario SR5262NX new in November 2007, stuck in safe mode: Intel Pentium Dual Core E2160, 1.80 GHz; Cache L2 1 MB; 2 GB OF RAM; 320 GB DD; Vista Home Premium (32 bit); updated for FSP 550W PSU and GeForce 9600GT video card.

  The PC is not usually online but I packed it and he brought with me on a trip to visit his family, where I have the opportunity to be online for a while and download Windows, drivers, and updates of games.  First thing I did when I'm online was to download and subscribe to Norton 360 Ver.3.  He ran a full scan and did his thing in the background very well for a few weeks.  I left the computer on and online during the night two or three times for big downloads.  Last night, I downloaded and installed an update of Realtek HD audio driver from the HP site.  As I did I noticed that the Norton logo at the top of the sidebar gadget was red and said Fix.  Thought I would look into that as soon as I completed the update of the driver.  As the update is complete, it restarted the PC.  When the start-up has passed BIOS, then the bar travel brands MS and entered the momentary blackout before MS ball logo and the password of the user window, he remained darkened without progressing further.  However, the number lock indicator lit up as he usually does automatically as a convenience to type the password.  That's all.  No response to Ctrl-Esc or Ctrl-Alt-Delete.  Can only stop by pressing the power button.

  Since then I could not initialize in everything except in safe mode.  I think I might have a virus, but Norton doesn't scan in safe mode.  I went to the last recovery point and good recovery nothing is done before that, also without any change in the startup problem.  In PC-Doctor (the hardware bootable diagnostic diskette), the PC passes all tests diagnostic equipment (except the failed on start).  There is no available startup repair.  The OS installation disc is in a hard disk partition.  I tried the command 'bootrec /fixboot' in the command line, but 'bootrec' is not recognized.

  I really want to fix this without doing a system recovery to factory settings.  I've done it before and it's a hassle.  And I'm not sure he would get rid of the virus, if it is the problem.  I'm middle-aged, and what I know about computers, it's just that I learned by bumbling along.  I hope that it is a simpler solution than to start.  Any help will be appreciated.  Thank you.

  Yee Haa!  It works, it works!  Reinstall the RAM sticks did the trick.  Thank you, dmhoo29.  Not sure why it works well.  I guess remove the memory sticks empty the RAM, but isn't he purged whenever the PC is turned off?  In any case, thank you very much.  And thanks for the rest of you for your help.  This site is now in my favorites.  I downloaded the updates of virus definitions and Norton did a full scan as we speak.  Everything is cool.

  Which wireless standard using the ATT solution? Any spare wireless card should work fine, just for the game to the network.
