Primary lost FF8 bookmarks left with old-fashioned imported to FF 4 years ago
Running Mac OS x. A large collection of my current bookmarks have disappeared. Backup files of bookmark of restoration since the days preceding the loss also lack the very large collection of current bookmarks. I checked the Firefox profile folder - there is only one profile on my system.
Also many flavicon for old bookmarks that are still in the library are now dotted boxes blank. It is also a new circumstance in history.
Time Machine saved me. I returned to a saved Nov 10 Firefox file 'Profile' to restore all of my favorites. I tried three times in Firefox 8 and whenever the bookmarks will begin to disappear. I finally uninstalled reinstalled FF7, FF8, asked Time Machine to return to the registered 'profile', and I am once more together. I'll add my voice to the many users who are frustrated with the numerous towers Firefox which in my case has led to 8 + hours of struggles of system I didn't have the time.

I'm very angry. This requirement came recently and I have not messed with windows live for some time after the release of the xbox. When I looked at my live ID, he said it was my former work email: * e-mail address is removed from the privacy *. I haven't worked at whole foods for ovr, five years and that e-mail is no longer active. I need to retrieve my content and I'm ready to share any information (it is POSSIBLE FIND, of course) to prove I'm ME, but I don't have an old map of flow rate 10 years ago... YOU DO? I have f you do, you are a fool. I don't think I should be punished for signing up so early, it's RIDICULOUS. I'm not some stupid nerd trying to steal someone's NICO BELLIK... I am a CUSTOMER and should be treated as such. I got him a lot of money into this product and I EXPECT to USE!
It is a forum for peer-to-peer users like you. So all this DO YOU, you're a fool, etc. is useless. In all cases, you must take your rant on forums proper... This isn't it.

My profile on my old laptop has become corrupted and I can't log in with my regular account (admin). I would like to add and merge bookmarks former firefox to another laptop, which already has existing bookmarks. I can not simply copy and paste the profile folder as this would crush my existing bookmarks and settings. Unfortunately, I have not set up the sync on this browser feature.
Unfortunately, Firefox doesn't have good tools to merge and dédupliquant bookmarks. I will propose a roundabout way to do. Here's an overview:
(1) create a new profile Virgin (#3) in your current Firefox (see details at the end)
(2) while using the #3 profile, restore a file in JSON format to backup your old (#1 profile) system (see restore bookmarks from a backup or move them to another computer)
(3) export bookmarks restored to an HTML element in a perfect location, with a file name unique format (see Export Firefox bookmarks to an HTML file for backup or transfer bookmarks)
(4) exit Firefox and is reactivated in your normal profile (profile #2)
(5) file bookmarks import as HTML (see import bookmarks in HTML file)
(6) create a backup in case something is not going to step 7 (see restore bookmarks from a backup or move them to another computer)
(7) rearrange bookmarks in the folder of imported bookmarks (see https://support.mozilla.org/kb/use-bookmarks-to-save-and-organize-w...), possibly using an add-on deduplicating
Create a new Firefox profile
A new profile will be your plugins installed by system (for example, Flash) and extensions (e.g., security suite toolbars), but no themes, other extensions or other customizations. It should also have databases of completely fresh settings and cool a cache folder.
Out of Firefox and start in the profile using Start Manager > Search box (or run):
firefox.exe -P
Do not delete anything here. Any time want to switch profiles, exit Firefox and return to this dialog box.
Click on the button to create a profile, give it a name like OldBookmarks and skip the option to change the folder. Then launch Firefox in the new profile that you have created.
You are ready to return to the new profile and create export to HTML format.
When you return to the Profile Manager, you might be tempted to use the button to delete the profile. It's a little too easy to accidentally delete your 'real' profile, so I recommend you to resist the temptation. If you don't want to clean up later, I suggest to make a backup of all your profiles first in case something go wrong.

Upgrade windows 8 to 8.1 FF24 - lost all bookmarks. Help!
With the help of FF24 for several days with windows 8. Today, after having "upgraded" to Windows 8.1, I lost all bookmarks. Interestingly, I also lost all my email in Thunderbird.
I tried to import Firefox bookmarks from a windows vista without success machine. Try as a JSON file and HTML file.
Before you go all bookmarks manually, I hope there is an easy solution.
Thank you
JR
The Windows 8.1 update create a backup folder called C:\Windows.old? If so, your data can probably be found here:
C:\Windows.old\Users\yourusername\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles
These items can help with exploration and the recovery process:

A system restore to see if that could solve the problem with registration to Xbox games. It corrects this problem, but firefox would not work. So I downloaded again, but now lost all bookmarks. Is it possible to recover?
Chas65 said
I don't see the restore function.
Hmm, when you are in the dialog box (Ctrl + Shift + b) library, you have the menu "import and backup"? Restoration is expected to be in this menu.

Find Firefox bookmarks on the old hard drive to transfer HD again?
I had to replace my motherboard and install a new operating system on a new hard drive. Windows 7.
The former hard drive windows 7 OEM and wouldn't start with the new MB.
I need to retrieve the bookmarks from the old HD which is connected to the new MB.
I can access the folders. I just can't find the bookmarks.
I need them to be complete, because I used advice in bookmarks so you can connect to some sites that I don't remember.
Help please!
Hi wertach, in JSON files are "restored" instead of "any". Please visit: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/1024626#answer-638819

After I updated to FF 8.0.1 I lost my bookmarks toolbar. Every time I open FF, the toolbar is missing; only the stars and "Bookmarks" will appear on the line, but everything else is missing. Can I get back if I uncheck it and then save in the options.
Not only that, but now, when I open FF, it automatically opens two tabs, instead of one.
I tried to uninstall and reinstall, I tried to reset my toolbars and opening in safe mode, but none of this has worked.
Create a new profile as a test to see if your profile is the source of the problems.
See "basic troubleshooting: a new profile:
There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "tools > Modules > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.
If this new profile works then you can transfer files from the old profile to the new profile, but make sure not to copy corrupted files.

Hi, someone started to play with my lap top prog running vista and now I can't have my original startup icon back, I tried everything I know by clicking on properties of the start menu and try Classic view but im still left with a white bar and a very small start of old style icon help!
Restore point:
http://www.howtogeek.com/HOWTO/Windows-Vista/using-Windows-Vista-system-restore/
Do Safe Mode system restore, if it is impossible to do in Normal Mode.
Try typing F8 at startup and in the list of Boot selections, select Mode safe using ARROW top to go there > and then press ENTER.
Try a restore of the system once, to choose a Restore Point prior to your problem...
Click Start > programs > Accessories > system tools > system restore > choose another time > next > etc.

If the above does not solve the problem, repost in the desktop and personalization Forum; the link below:

I don't like the slide show feature. I'd rather see my attachments separately as before.
The slide show can be disabled and allow me to view attachments the old-fashioned way?
@Paul7177
Windows Live Mail 2011 doesn't have an option to turn off the slide show mode (it is part of the program).
You can click on the image to see (which will open in whatever program is associated with that type of file images) or save (or all of them) and open later in a program of your choice.

Links for adobe reader to download old fashion http
Why can't Adobe just old fashion http download links for the software adobe reader here... http://get.Adobe.com/reader/?promoid=BUIGO
I don't want to use a download manager. I'm on a browser or a pc with the settings that prevent the start automatically downloads on the next page. AND I DON'T WANT A GOOGLE TOOLBAR!
Adobe, Microsoft and many others have this horrible habit of trying to make things "easier". THIS MARKET EVER! If you want to get fancy and have a fancy treats download is fine. Have a link at the bottom for those of us who want it simple. -
Old installation of Windows and where winning FF stopped working. Have reinstalled on the new drive win and FF and import bookmarks from the old install on the old disk. The files are always accessible. None of the listed options explain another FF FF import that create a new profile that will not work in this case.
Just as a reference, when you explore your old hard drive, will seek you:
E:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles
(the drive letter may vary)
If Windows hides the AppData folder on the old disk, you can disable hide files and folders: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/show-hidden-files
Then you can get off and find the folder bookmarkbackups containing .jsonlz4 files.

How can I restore my favorites with old Firefox Sync?
I have sync key and password of the old Firefox Sync. And I want to restore my favorites.
Three years ago, I use Firefox sync, but as I put t use.You must connect to the synchronization using a 29 pre-Firefox version to re-establish a connection to the server and attempt to recover your data. Then follow the instructions to update your sync for Firefox 29 account. See this KB article - synchronize your bookmarks from Firefox, history, passwords, etc.
Firefox 29 + uses a hidden recovery key and no way to get into the old "key".
Three years of inactivity? Your data may not be there, Sync was not intended to be a cloud of data storage. It was created to keep synchronized multiple installations of Firefox.
