Problem automated creation of the pools (linked clone or full clone)

Hi all!

Two or three weeks ago I started to experience a very strange error in my environment. (vCenter and vSphere Horizon are version 6.x)

At the point where I'm trying to create a pool automated , using of linked clone or a full clone, the following error is displayed as follows:

«The selected snapshot is hardware version 7.» Only ESX 4.0 hosts or homogenous groups of hosts running ESX 4.0 can be selected. »

I know that there is a KB ( ) 1028489) reported this error, but it is applied to view 4.X and I'm running the version 6

I first thought it was on an old parent VMs and instant, so I created all parents of virtual machines and snapshot material the most recent help of virtual machine. But the error still there.

Is there any type of troubleshooting for this problem?

Ideas are very much aprecciated.

Thank you.

Best,

Eduardo.

  • Automatic creation of pools (linked Clone) using powerCLI

    Hello

I am using powerCLI to create automatic pool (linked clone). I came across the following cmdlet in theVMware powershell integration white paper:

    Get-ViewVC - serverName < IP/domain FULL name >. Add-AutomaticLinkedClonePool-pool_id

    TestAutomaticLinkedClonePool - namePrefix pad - parentVMPath / < Center > < parentVM > /vm/

    -parentSnapshotPath / < cliché - > vmFolderPath / < Center > /vm - resourcePoolPath

    / /host/ < Center > < ESX > / resources - dataStoreSpecs / < Center > /host/ < ESX > / < datastore >

    -composer_ad_id < id ad composer >

Now, I want to help discover (with an example will be very useful) how you specify and how find you each of the following (as what do I put after each other):

    -parentVMPath

    -parentSnapshotPath

    -vmFolderPath

    -resourcePoolPath

    -dataStoreSpecs

    -composer_ad_id

Please give an example of each if possible.

    Thank you!

OK, I'll give it a try.

The parentVMPath parameter expects the path to the virtual machine that you want to spawn the pool (obviously).

Such a path looks like this: / MyDC/vm/MyVM

Where MyDC is the datacentername, the vm folder is hidden folder that contains the hierarchy of models and virtual computers, and finally the name of the virtual machine itself.

If your master VM is deeper in the structure of folders, just add the folders in the path.

    Ex: / MyDC/vm/Folder1/Folder2/MyVM

The parentSnapshotPath is similar to the previous setting, but obviously needs to point to the snapshot pool should clone.

Alan has a nice feature to recover the snapshotpath Updateand re-view pools calm.

The vmFolderPath is where the virtual machines that are created for the pool to be stored.

Similar to the previous settings, but now for the record once again.

    Ex: / MyDC/vm/PoolFolder

resourcePoolPath must point to a resourcepool.

Such a path will look something like this: / MyDC/host/MyCluster/Resources/MyResourcePool

Note that host and resources are again hidden folders!

datastoreSpecs: this is not the most obvious.

He wants the full path to a data store in a cluster that is specified by a resource pool.

See the function VVGetDatastorePath to determine the paths to vSphere Datastore objects

The composer_ad_id wants that the ID of the AD domain, in which the composer is a member server.

You can get this through to: ComposerDomain-Get | select composer_ad_id

  • Problem with the floating linked clones and Persona

    Hello

    We run a build view Horizon 6.2.0 - 3005368.

Just improved our VMware environment to 6.2 and installing an APEX 2800 PCoIP card on our guests.

I had a pool of office dedicated clone bound for users.

Now, I made a new image of master and made a new Automated Desktop Pool pool who are floating clone related.

With the dedicated bound vmis, we place disc profiles of users etc are located.

With the new pool, I'll use Persona. I followed this guide - http://terenceluk.blogspot.no/2012/10/configuring-roaming-profiles-with.html?showComment=1445933020356 and it works very well indeed, almost.

For users of a trial, I can see that if something I save it to the desktop, it will be saved on the server of file \\fileserver\redirected$\%username%\Desktop

When I use my user and try to even something on the desktop - it c:\%username%\Desktop

I tried to reset, remove my user etc., but it's not. All the settings I made in the GPO - Computer Configuration-> administration-> classic administrative templates (ADM) models-> Configuration of the VMware View Agent-> Persona

    Management-> Folder Redirection

But my users settings are only "local".

    How is it?

This can be caused by an incorrect action or NTFS permissions on the redirection of folder/persona.

She is also due if your user account has a profile on the parent whose linked clone desktops are created.

  • Discover 5.2 recompose pool linked clone - Wait for user to logoff - refresh immediately after logoff - connected on VM never reconstruct after the closing session or refreshment.

Lets say, we have 20 clones related hen who has refresh immediately after logoff. 10 people are connected to VM 1-10. When plan us a restructuring of the entire pool, one would expect that VM 11-20 would recompose afterwards, as the newspaper of people out of 1-10 of Vm, the VM redial for the new replica. Instead, VM 1-10 are refreshing to a control point and recomposing replica ever again. It seems that when refresh after logging has not been defined, recompose work properly. These two elements are mutually exclusive?

    I guess that's what you're talking about?  http://KB.VMware.com/kb/2006707

If so, Yes, this is a known problem, updating of log will cancel and replace a Redial on newspaper.  I raise this issue until I got was blue and you have heard that it will be corrected in a future version

For now, I do it manually reconstructs in the pool > inventory tab > desktops (see composer details) > right-click on desktop > redial.  Usually, I do on a single desktop computer and let the replica to create and lots of then recomposed.  As recompose and selecting force their users to disconnect will do the trick also.

  • Created the Group Linked Clone/pool - now how to connect to / them?

OK, I got the pool group / a linked clone. Now, what should I do to connect with them? I worked off the coast of the "VMware-View4-EvaluatorsGuide" and there is nothing after having created the group/pool? So, how do I connect to this pool? I've created or set it to 5 desktop computers.

Anything will help maaaaannnn... cuz this trial and the guide is just don't do it for me.

    Thank you

OK, don't know if the guide had suggestions on the construction of your model, but you must make sure that the view agent is installed on your VDI machines.   You must also ensure that the client view is installed on the computer that you connect from.    Once entitle those who have been verified a user to use the admin view pool manager.  You can then connect on the vdi client and should be able to access the pool.  Simply specify your connection broker name after you run the client from the view.

  • Sizes of pool linked Clone

We have licenses to run 100 concurrent jobs to one of our branches.  In view of this, I wonder if I should create pools with 50 workstations in each.  My thought is that 50 linked clones will easily run on a LUN (our default size) of 500 GB and it will segment the workstations some in case someone is never something arousing to a pool.  Should I think in that sense, or should I create just a large pool of 200 workstations?

    Thoughts?

I don't see anything wrong with that.  For my part do not use reserves, but it is easily changed if you have problems.   Review you the guide to optimization of Windows 7 provided by VMware?

    Hi @rudraksh,

    Thank you for your response.

Here is a link to the computer does not start and the lights blink or computer beeps that should help you.

After research in the HP forum, I found the post State of the Bluetooth is not compatible with virtualization, and if you turn it off, you are then able to start.

If this is the case, you will need to disable the Bluetooth before enabling virtualization.

Once you leave the virtualization you can then re-enable the Bluetooth if you want.

Please let me know if this is the case, for later use.

If this did not help, I'm sorry, but HP does not support virtualization.

    Good luck!

  • Creation of the new link window with the defined size and change of cursor

    Hello

I seem to have a problem to have a link "hot spot" open a new window and proceed in the way I want that there. I tried a few different ways to go about it, as described below:

The first method to set the hot spot was to use the Properties menu that is provided at the bottom of Dreamweaver when I click on the HotSpot. When I test the page, the cursor turns into a hand and I can open the link in a new window BUT I can not set the width and height of the new window.

The second method was after you set the hotspot, using the behaviors of the Inspector of tags menu. From there, I would like to add a behavior of browser window open by using the onClick event. Here, I can open the new window in predefined width and height, BUT when I test the page, the cursor does not change from a helping hand. There's just the standard arrow.

The question is: How can I set the hotspot to where the mouse will suddenly change hands when I scroll over it, AND when the window opens, this is the width and the height I want to define?

  • Instant and linked clone automated floating pools

I am trying to understand the interaction between the image and the snapshot used to define the pool and pool record itself original.

For example; A snapshot is taken of an optimized image of Win7, call it the image of 'work '. No other changes are made in the image of 'working '. An automated floating pool linked clone is created from this image and the snapshot. In this case, since we use roaming profiles and folder redirection its my understanding that no changes to the workstations are stored on virtual machines. Because it would seem that no change is retained which would be stored in the snapshot, what purpose would serve the snapshot?

My organization takes images of maintaining not optimized as master of the images to install software changes and updates, and then their cloning off to pictures of work. These images of work are used to create our pools. (Should) a picture of work and the other snapshot allows to form several pools of condition there is no difference between the software needs of the different pools? Commissioning several pools is intended to prevent an entire segment of the company to be without a computer something becomes corrupted in one of the pools.

    Thank you in advance.

    H

The latter is used to create a replica that is a read-only copy of the virtual machine.   When your linked clones are created, they are related to the replica.

You can absolutely use snapshot to multiple pools, if you choose.

  • Linked Clone pools with fast and KMS

Here are a few things I'm still not clear on?  (1) what to choose fast as my process for related clones, creating bound within view Admin clone pool?  (2) where point desktop clone related newly updated to point to the KMS server?  (3) therefore to create a pool of related cone that I have to turn off the Parent virtual machine and take a snapshot and then choose this snapshot when I go to the floating pool linked clone process, correct?

When you create the master vm and before taking snapshots, make sure that its using the kms client.  Any machine that uses this key automatically discover host kms on your network and activate.  There is no need to specify in the settings of quickprep.  When I was with sysprep I put the key client kms in customizers, but quickprep just takes what is there and use it.

  • Printer drivers on the linked clones

    Hello

I have a pool Linked-Clone of Windows 7 using persistent discs... I want to configure a user that needs to connect to a printer using the LPR port. The printer drivers are not on the computer Virtual Parent. Stupid question, but are pilots registered with persistent discs? What I want to say, if I deploy the clone and map the printer using the LPR port, it will remain for a refresh/redial?

I know I could just try and see, but I have so many things going on right now, I thought it would be faster to post the question.

    Thank you

    Mike

If you have the drivers to the image of the mother, then the mapping must stay after a refresh or a restructuring.   If you need to add the printer to the clone, then it would be good after a refresh or redial.

  • Linked Clone desktop deployment

OK, this may be a really stupid question, but I can't seem to find something relevant in the Administrator's guide.  I just started to test office automated linked clone pool.  Is there a way to proviosion workstations as needed or all must be provided at the time of the creation of the pool?

    Thank you

    Tony

No, when you create the pool under the automated dimensioning parameters, you will see an article that explains the Advanced Options.  You can use this to set the minimum number of computers in the service, the maximum number of machines for the pool and the number that must always be available.

Thus, a 3 min, 10 total, 2 available would create three virtual computers immediately, as soon as the first two were recorded in a fourth would be created to join the 2 available.  Happen in order until you have reached 10 total workstations in which case you would be complete.

  • Linked clone provisioned storage

I have an image master win7, I am deploying in a linked clone floating pool.  My main image is 32 GB.  When I create pools, each of the reports linked clones in vCenter they have 66 gb is put into service.  What is the origin of the vCenter to think he has 66 s gb available? Administrator-display report data store real used space or report that if all maxed out at 32 GB vm, this amount of space would be absorbed?

    Thanks for any idea

    Hello

This occurs when the virtual machine has a snapshot.

Is total disc space implemented parent parent and child, where everyone can develop in real space specified when the disk was created.

It also adds the swap space necessary for the virtual machine, which is equal to the RAM.

This is a discussion on this

    http://communities.VMware.com/message/1474959

In the case of the space used for the linked clone, you must add replica + OS UDD + disc + other misc files VM file, swap file

  • Linked Clone - need a how to.

    To be at the front, I have never tried this product until now. I was able to follow the procedures in the guide of evaluators found here: http://www.vmware.com/files/pdf/VMware-View4-Evaluators-Guide.pdf?source=web & cd = 1 & ved = 0CBQQFjAA & url = https :// www.vmware.com/go/view4evalguide & rct = j & q = % 20view % 204% 20evaluation % 20guide vmware & ei = pSQhTJDFNJCMnQe4rZhR & usg = AFQjCNGjtWI690tG9MfR-13xp7nf0mLFCw

Now, I was able to get a virtual desktop connection (individual Desktop) and now I'm on page 36, try the linked clone. Screenshots don't coincide with what I get on some images. On Page 36, he says the following...

First create the 10 office pools linked Clone and go through the same new process to create the complete clone - only without checking the checkbox highlighted.

But I have not yet created a linked clone how to 10?

Someone at - it an idiots guide on the implementation of the related clones? I'm just using the trial. I don't know if there's a limitation then if there are, please let me know.

    Thanks in advance.

The parameters of quickprocess is the part of the process that makes the unique clone and he joined the field.   You must specify a user account with permissions to join computers in your domain.

The script of post box where you can specify scripts to run against the clone, once it is built.

The area of the OU gives you the ability to specify that an OU in Active Directory for the virtual computer is to create in.

  • ESXi 3.5 U4 - linked Clone... is it still possible?

    Dear all,

I have been using ESXi 3.5 (free license) for some time and use the script of "linked clone" available here: http://communities.vmware.com/docs/DOC-9202 I understand numerous messages on these forums that VMware have now patched/fixed for access in RCLI writing ability and so the script above no longer works. While it is an understandable gesture of VMware to protect its products, cause us me some questions that I really consider to create a linked clone and therefore very quickly deploy a new virtual machine.

From my own research, I have a workaround, (its not terrible but works), essentially the following script available here http://engineering.ucsb.edu/~duonglt/vmware/ (note not my work) run a clone linked in a few steps (note brief simplified presentation):

    (1) copy the .vmx config files and the master VM .vmxf to the new location.

    (2) change the new configuration .vmx file to point to the virtual hard disk to the VM master.

    (3) save the new virtual machine (essentially adding to the inventory of ESXi).

    (4) create a snapshot (using the new configuration .vmx file), thus creating a new virtual hard disk to store the changes (or differences).

Personally, I think the author of the script deserves a lot of credit because the technique is very neat.

In ESXi 3.5 U4 functions within the RCLI used to perform steps 3 and 4 are no longer available because they require write access. My solution is to run steps 1 and 2 of the script (as before) followed by using the VIX API to register the virtual machine and create a snapshot. This work, however, does not require a running two separate programs. When I looked at using the VIX API, I noticed a function called "VixVM_Clone" which is able to create full clones and related first of all clones, but guess what - Yes it's true that this is not supported in ESX or ESXi.  Note here the VIX API support matrix: http://www.vmware.com/support/developer/vix-api/vix16_reference/supportMatrix.html

I hope that work around it above will help others and please if anyone has a better solution, perhaps they would be kind enough to post...

Yes, the two linked Clones script always works. Scripts do not use the VI API, but the Service Console on ESX classic, and the console Busybox not supported for ESXi, where he won't suffer by the fix introduced with ESXi 3.5u4. This is also true for ESX and ESXi 4.0, a small minor fix will have to turn off checking with vmware - v version has changed slightly with its output, but the fundamentals of the script is exactly the same and still works.

    Glad you're enjoying the script
