Problem cloning virtual machine using C/C++

Hi I'm trying to clone a Machine virtual usind C/C++ as programming language and appeal of VIX API that is

VixHandle VixVM_Clone (VixHandle vmHandle,

VixHandle snapshotHandle,

VixCloneType cloneType,

const char * destConfigPathName,

int options,

VixHandle propertyListHandle,

VixEventProc * callbackProc,.

void * clientData);

But I get the error code 6 which is VIX_E_NOT_SUPPORTED and the watch 3010 VIX_PROPERTY_JOB_RESULT_HANDLE which is VIX_E_NO_GUEST_OS_INSTALLED.

I first connected to the virtual computer, and then open the virtual machine and then tried to Clone. When you try to clone that I receive the error that is not Supported. The VM I'm trying to Clone does not work that is powerd off the coast of the State.

I also tried to Clone using the vmrun but the same results.

Can you please help me. Thank you very much!

VixVM_Clone() is currently supported only with VMware Workstation. This is not supported when it is used against VMware vSphere server.

Any suggestions?   I need to convert a .iso?  If so, how?

    Thank you.

Theoretically, you can't use restore CD to configure a new virtual machine, because they are technically linked to the computer to which they belong.

Because the virtual hardware for a virtual machine is completely different with the material belonging to the restore CD, I don't expect that it will work well. For the case, it works well, you could face activation problems, due to the completely different (virtual) hardware.

You might need a copy of XP retail to do a clean install of XP.

VCLI orders are mainly used for configurations of the host, although as part of the installation of vCLI, you get also vSphere SDK for utilities Perl - http://www.vmware.com/support/developer/viperltoolkit/viperl41/doc/vsperl_util_index.html that provide additional canned scripts, which allows you to create a single set of virtual machines using the vmcreate.pl script. • deploy multiple virtual machines using vmdk and SID file

    Hello

Need to know if I am correct or miss me something... I deploy many virtual machines using method.

    1. remove the vmdk files a XP.

    2. create new folders and copy the vmdk into this folder.

    3. create virtual machines using existing vmdk files.

4 rename the computer and join it to the domain.

My question is, my VMDK files are an existing xp VM (no longer exist), what is the status of the deployed virtual machines? they still have the same SID or it is changed? I managed to join to the domain, but do not want surprises in the future.

    Note:

I had another option, could have all these automated with new SID using PowerCLi, unfortunately, osCustomization has default, I can't event run the get-OsCustomization command, it keeps failing.

    Thank you.

Yes, Windows writes the SID on disk (virtual disk for virtual machines) or physical disk for physical machines.  The guest operating system has no idea on the vmx file.

  • Problems of establishing a virtual machine using Microsoft SCCM

    Hello

I'm trying to deploy a virtual machine with Microsoft SCCM. It works very well - but only if I create the vm on the local disk on the esx server. After a success of creation, I can then migrate the diskfile of a SAN LUN.

If I try to do the same thing directly in a virtual machine with the diskfiles not on local drives but on the SAN, then the Setup program will fail in most cases. It is not always the same point in the installation program - it can be anywhere in the process of staging by sccm. Seems to be a period of waiting or something and obviously seems to be a problem with the SAN storage...

... then... I'm the expert on LAN, or SCCM expert--while hoping, someone else knows this problem and there are probably certain parameters to change to avoid a timeout or something.

Storage system is HP EVA 4400. ESX is vSphere 4.0.0 208167.

    Best regards

  • Create a virtual machine using the ubuntu (host of W7) partition

I am running Windows 7 and 8 of VMware Workstation.

The disc is actually a raid-0. There are 3 partitions: (Dual-boot)

    -Ubuntu (64-bit)

    -System reserved Windows

    -Windows (64-bit)

I am trying to create a virtual machine under W7 using the Ubuntu partition.

I tried 2 things for step 'select a physical drive:

-Use individual partitions. The problem is at the end, when you click Finish. I get the error: "one of the provided parameters is not valid."

-Disc use whole. The virtual machine is created, but when I turned on, I get the error:

"Could not open the disk ' C:\. [..] \Ubuntu 64 - bit.vmdk' or one of the snapshot disks it depends on.

Reason: the physical disk is already in use. »

Thank you in advance for answering,

    Kind regards.

In my tests I couldn't use a host physical diskwith a Windows 7 without setting the disc 'offline '.
But then you can set the diskette from Windows Startup 'offline '.

Using Linux or 2003, you don't have this problem.

This error is most likely due to a corrupted ISO download.  Try to download it again and see if that corrects the problem.

  • Conversion to a virtual machine using VMware Player?

We have an environment consisting of ESX:

    • vCenter 4.0.0 (build 162856)

    • Runing host ESX 3.5.0 (build 163429)

I have very limited exposure to VMware Player and who has been with the first versions.

We received a request to make an existing virtual machine in Windows 2008 for use with VMware Player.

    1. Is this feasible?

    2. I had user Converter?

    3. I'm confused about the end result and how to deal with operating system licenses and IP information as they proliferate this image in VMplayer?

Looking for some tips and information to help me get started.

I usually copy the complete directory of the virtual machine on ESX to a host with vmplayer and it - just run without any conversion. Just doubleclick vmx-file...

This works even when the virtual machine has snapshots, although I do not recommend.

If I have problems they can usually be cured by a simple modification vmx and vmdk so I amy forget a step here.

Anyway - just try and come back with error messages.

  • Virtual machines using 90% or more of memory comments

I have improved recently (4 guests) two clusters of 3.5u2 ESX ESX 4.

Almost all virtual machines report now that they use a very large amount of comments.

The clusters are identical and have the available 268, whose 135GB is used in one, and 70 GB in another

An example is a Windows 2003 Server (SP2, R2, x 32) VM is no longer used. I have 4 GB assigned and has no service running or anything of your RAM to the virtual machine (it reports 362 MB used in the Task Manager), but in vSphere is recorded as using 4185 MB memory of the host (i.e. more than him), and 98% of the comments in the vSphere client memory. The machine works normally and the consumption of memory continues even after a reboot.

I've updated the VMTools and the VMHardware at 7, and this has not solved.

Why almost all virtual machines (in two groups) are this high memory use, when they were not under ESX 3.5? I have also some identical virtual machines (taken from the same model, similar running tasks) that reports correctly their memory usage. About one-third of the VMS correctly report its use, the rest are incorrectly indicating they use 90% + of memory comments

How can I dagnose and solve this problem?

Just visited this Ko this morning and it is perhaps related to your problem.

  • create a virtual machine using createVM_Task

    Hello

I extracted the configuration information of the VM (VirtualMachineConfigInfo []) and the use of I want to create a virtual machine (essentially wants to fill [VirtualMachineConfigSpec]).

For the property '[of] deviceChange.device"in VirtualMachineConfigSpec, can I directly copy the information from the device of ' harware.device [of] ' VirtualMachineConfigInfo property. Will this work?

    I have two more questions:

1 cant explain peripheral information by default (like PS2Controller/SIO controller, etc.) in VirtualMachineConfigSpec when calling CreateVM_Task()?

    2. is it compulsory for negative values(-ve) values for controller/key relationships?

    Thank you

    -Rambeau

    > For the property '[of] deviceChange.device"in VirtualMachineConfigSpec, can I directly copy the information from the device of ' harware.device [of] ' VirtualMachineConfigInfo property. Will this work?

Lol it can be copied directly to "deviceChange.device" in VirtualMachineConfigSpec. Also, there could be other problems as well, like the support information will be common to both machines. So, at a time, you will be able to use only 1 VM. It will be not as trivial this may seem.

    > 1. Cant explain peripheral information by default (like PS2Controller/SIO controller, etc.) in VirtualMachineConfigSpec when calling CreateVM_Task()?

Yes, you can specify default devices information (like PS2Controller/SIO controller, etc.) in VirtualMachineConfigSpec. The 'deviceChange.device' is a data object "VirtualDevice. This data object is extended by the class 'VirtualController '. It's even wider by the following classes:

'VirtualIDEController', 'VirtualPCIController', 'VirtualPS2Controller', 'VirtualSCSIController', 'VirtualSIOController', 'VirtualUSBController '.

You can implement the foregoing classes, assign it to the 'deviceChange.device' of VirtualMachineConfigSpec property and pass it to the CreateVM_Task.

    > 2. Is it mandatory to get negative values(-ve) values for controller/key relationships?

It is not mandatory to give negative values for the controller and the key. By assigning a negative value, the server assigns self-produced nonnegative unique key for the device. This excludes the possibility to assign a duplicate key, which can cause an error.

    Hope that answers your questions.

  • Devices 6210 USB in a virtual machine using

    Hello

I have a NI 6210 usb device which I want to use in a virtual machine running in Sun's VirtualBox.

The host operating system is Vista, the operating system in the virtual XP machine.

It seems as if between the two OS USB device sharing does not work correctly.

I installed the drivers fpr the 6210 in both the host and the guest operating system.

The device is correctly detected in the host operating system.

What I want to do is use the usb device in the virtual machine only, there no need to be available in the host operating system.

But when I run the virtual machine, it seems as if the usb toggle device between the host and OS invited frequently, i.e. in a second, it appears in the host operating system, in the next second it appears in the guest OS. Is there a way to "turn off" the device usb in the OS, host so that it can be used exclusively by the guest operating system?

I also tried to use Windows7 as the host operating system but with the same result as described above.

    Thank you.

    Hi Christian,

Can you tell me which version of the DAQmx driver you use? I am aware of a case where he helps update version 8.9 the DAQmx. If you have an older version, please upgrade. I hope that you have added a filter to the VirtuaBox mentioned such in support USB in VirtualBox help file section 3.7.9.
