problem copying photo

I am not able to copy some pictures in my files. I have always done the copy and paste or save picture as option and have been able to copy photos also and save them in my photo files. Now I can not do. Can I copy a file to another. I can even copy from an outside source, if I put it in a word doc. But I can't copy also and save it in my files. I have not changed the settings or anything like that. Any suggestions?

There are two approaches you can take.

One solution: you can copy files into smaller "chunks" until you identify the file that causes the error, and then try to find out what is the problem with this file.

Another solution is to download the program "Robust copy" (Robocopy) to Microsoft and it allows to copy your files.  You download and install in the Windows 2003 Resource Kit (works fine on XP).

    Windows Server 2003 Resource Kit:

Once installed, you can open a command prompt window (start-> Run-> "cmd") and enter the command:
    Robocopy "C:\photos" 'E:\photos' /R:5 / s
Where "C:\photos" will be replaced by the source directory, and the 'E:\photos' is the destination directory.  the "/ S" option will copy the subdirectories and the R:5 option retries 5 times on error before moving on to the next file.  Errors should be displayed on the screen and I found errors of command line to be more descriptive than GUI errors.  There are a lot more options, but this should help you get started.

  • What does the option "copy photos to the photo library?

I explore this now app Photos (worst name ever) and I wanted to import photos in Photos. The problem for me is I want to let the pictures where they already are. I'm not interested in a database or the system that hides the pictures of me in the finder. I want to be able to right click and reveal in finder - "export image" is a terrible choice.

So, I see an option to check in the preferences. It reads: "Copy pictures to the photo library" but has no explanation as to what that means or does. This is what it will move my photos if I select copy? (their disappearance from the original file)? It will resume photos - clutter up my drive? If we make a copy and I update the original in Photoshop - it will reflect this change in the Photo?

So many questions and I can not find an answer to any place. Even the help files had nothing that I could find.

Default is 'Copy photos to the photo library' enabled.  Then the pictures will do exactly that. Any Photo that you import pictures is copied in the photo library and managed by pictures. You can remove the original outside the library after you have verified that it imported properly.

If you disable the option, pictures reference the file in its original location and does not copy it.

This configuration is not recommended because you have to manage photos on your own. If you delete photos of Photos, you must delete the original outside yourself. You cannot use iCloud photo library with referenced files and if dot nee restore you from a backup library will need films to another drive, you will need to manually reconnect all originals. It is subject to errors.

If we make a copy and I update the original in Photoshop - it will reflect this change in the Photo?

It will not work. Two Photos will ignore changes to Photosho or lose the connection to the original file. To use an external editor in pictures use extensions to change Photos photo editing panel. Let the pics to send the original to the external editor.

  • Import: Copy Photos as Digital Negative (DNG) and add to the catalog

I am importing existing (on disk) Camera RAW (.) CR2) photos in Lightroom.

I read that it is a good idea to convert Camera RAW files to DNG, so I chose the option copy Photos as Digital Negative (DNG) and add to the catalog.  I also chose to backup the files when you import on an external drive.  DNG files that are created are copied into the new central repository on my hard drive where I keep all my photos that are managed by Lightroom.  The original. CR2 files are left where they were originally.

    I have two questions:

    1. is there a justification to keep the original. Cr2 files in the old file once I converted to DNG in the new central repository?

    2. When does the backup import Lightroom backup of the original. CR2, DNG format files on my external hard drive. Does make sense?  If the disk containing my. How can DNG photos breaks down, I use the container backup. CR2 files if Lightroom is expected to make them. DNG ones?

    Thanks for the ideas!

    acresofgreen,

Of course, it is a matter of opinion, but once you've decided to switch to DNG, and you converted your CR2 files, I would empty the original CR2 on DVD files, I hope never to be looked at again.  Then include your DNG in a normal backup routine that includes an external hard drive on the spot and online, the off-site source as well. The backup in place when importing is not intended to save the newly created, just DNG the imported the files themselves.  In rare cases, the conversion of the DNG format has a little problem and until you have a chance to look at each image, keep the original CR2s somewhere, but not necessarily easily accessible, is logical. My backup, comments also to point 1 above.

Simple solution is to copy the files in folders.

There is a limit to the number of files that can be added to
the root directory on a memory card.
(this number varies depending on the type and the capacity of the card)

  • Problem copy with Dos command

I have a Windows Vista laptop that wasn't signing in Windows & browsing the trunk upwards. He tried to solve the problem but could not.  I replaced the laptop for now and try to restore all the old data.  Unfortunately a very important file is not in the original backup.  I was able to get into the back of command on the old laptop and found the file I want to restore.  I have a USB key that I can add & delete on it but I am having some problems copying the files on it.  I hope that there is someone here who could help refresh my memory to make it work.  I really need this file.

I have 2 separate files in the following directory for backups of my product of the emails:

    Backup directory: c:\users\Linda\Documents\Incredimail

    File Names:                                                                  File Size:

    2011 11-23-IncrediBackup - Linda M.ibk 26,253,299,746

    2011 12-16-IncrediBackup - Linda M.ibk 28,204,879,070

    That's what I tried:

    backup c:\users\Linda\documents\incredimail > copy *.ibk f:

Error message: the parameter is incorrect.

    c:\users\Linda\documents\incredimail backup\2011-12-16-IncrediBackup - f: Linda M.ibk

The system cannot find the specified file

    f:\copy c:\users\Linda\documents\Incredimail Backup\ * .ibk

The system cannot find the specified file

    Can anyone help with this?

    Thank you

OK - this is great, this post more later for me (we) do know how things are going...

I was surprised by the error message (error: the parameter is incorrect.), usually, you can see the error - not enough free space on the disk (device).

If you use flash with computers disks, you can format all the drives to NTFS flash. Format NTFS is WIndows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 and of course you know WIndows 8. Older Windows (such as Windows 98, Windows 95) knows that FAT32.

The maximum NTFS file size is about 16 TB (of 16 000 GB).

Perhaps mean you - why is the default to FAT32 ?

Some modern TV, VCR (DVD) or the satellite receiver USB input and you can Plug the flash drive into this devices - you can see the pictures on TV, that are saved on the flash drive, or you can record a TV show on the flash drive, which is plugged into the TV (or VCR (DVD) or the satellite receiver) , but this devices know only FAT32 format.
