Problem update with ESXi 4.0 to ESXi 4.0 U 1

Hello.

This morning I try to update my server ESXi 4.0 to ESXi 4.0 U1 using the host update utility 4.0.0 build 162856.

My hardware: FSC BX620 S5 ground, 4 CPUS, 12 GB RAM, 300 GB HARD drive.

After that the judgment of all the guests I started the maintanance mode. The process of updating teminates with "not enough disk space. The press are 151 GB of available disk space...?  :|

What's not here?

Thanks in advance for your answers.

Best regards.

Dirk Emmermacher

Hello

When you say, 151 GB of available disk space, disk space for VMFS I think, not for VMware. Right?

Check the available disk space on your partition /, / boot, / tmp, / home/var.

You update the server from an older version of ESX, like 3.5?

  • Having problems with ESXi/vSphere Client Network

First of all, I apologize if it's thread is in the wrong section.

I recently installed ESXi v6.0.0 in VMware Workstation 12.0 trying to familiarize myself with ESXi as I recently graduated and I forgot most of what I learned from the class I took.

Then, ESXi installed smoothly and was very painless.

Then, I tried to create a virtual machine. It's when things are messy. I can't understand why, but I don't get any network connectivity after obtaining a DHCP address to all within the virtual machine, in addition to being able to ping the host ESXi itself.

First of all, networking is like so:

    10.10.10.1 router/gateway

10.10.10.254 DHCP, DNS, server, VMware Workstation files 12

    10.10.10.250 ESXi host

And the following then occurs on the ESXi prompt:

I can't really understand what the problem is, or what is happening. Yes, I could set up an internal network of the virtual machine with a firewall and what not, but I was hoping that there would already network connectivity while I wouldn't do. Also, is it possible to make attachments online?

    Thanks for all their help

This could be a problem of permission on the host vmnet adapter, see http://kb.vmware.com/kb/287.

The host runs 36 windows virtual xp with each 1vcpu and 512 MB memory.

given that we have upgraded to esxi 4 almost al my virtual machines are showing the alarm that the memory usage of comments is raw, some off them show same not the warning, but the symbol of the alarm.

In the virtual machine overview comments mem % varies between 90% and 68%.

The host mem is also high, always 537 MB.

The same takes place of issue with the version of virtual machine 4 and 7, vmwaretools is upgraded to version latsest, even with a new installation of a host appaers problem.

On the same host, we tested with esxi 3.5, we have not had any warning to all mem % comments has been between 2 and 18%

  • Update Server ESXi 4 Update 1 in a HA cluster with Update Manager

I have currently a node two, HA on VSphere 4 cluster each host running ESXi 4. I want to update ESXi 4 Update 1 by using Update Manager. My question is, I'd do one host at a time to ensure that the guests stay up? The update to ESXi 4 update 1 requires even the hosts restart? I still have an option to update only one host at a time?

I just want to know if there is a way to update the two nodes in the cluster without interruption of the comments.

    Thank you.

You can do the remidiation at the level of the cluster by using Update Manager

in your case, Manager Update wll start theremidation the first host and repeat the failure of the virtual machine on a second host (hope you have activated the DRS for the VMotion). Once the restoration is complete and host will start, it will do VMotion to improved host and continue sanitation on the second host.

Update Manager also supports remidiating each host in the cluster.

  • PowerEdge Raid700 in RD540 with ESXi Thinkserver

    Hello

    I'll put up a hypverisor 5.5 ESXi update 2 on a lenovo RD540. There is a RAID700 controller.

I use 3 HARD drive in a RAID6 configured with the tool of the bios (Mega RAID LSI)

The server works fine, but I don't see the healthy of the RAID on the ESXi.

I don't see the virtual disk, not the adapter of storage or physical disks. If one lose a disc ESXi does not know, I hear only the PIF from the server.

How can I solve this problem?

If I use the "Lenovo easy start' to install ESXi RAID adapter will be with ESXi?

  • Turn off RSO with ESXi 5 environment?

    Hi all

I have a question about the UC building on NGC with a C210M2 rack server ESXi 5 installed.

I want to know if I still need to disable LRO.

I think I do, but my colleague seems quite sure it would only turn off RSO if in a Vmware 4.0 or 4.1 environment.

Can someone please help me with an answer?

I proveded a link below which I use as my reference on the subject.

The problem started with ESX 4.0 and has been apparently fixed in ESX 4.1 U2 and ESX 5.0 but still, we advise to disable LRO for both versions using UC the UCS.

The question was initially followed by VMware here:

  • Problem installing VMWare ESXi on PowerEdge 1950

Hi - I am trying to install ESXi on a PE1950, with a disk 2 RAID 1, PERC 5i controller config, but when starting ESXi image I get the following error:

"Could not find a device suppored to write the ESX Server 3i 3.5.0 image '"

I tried to get this error with little joy.  This server was not pre-ordered with ESXi embedded - that is the problem?

  • High latency LDAP with ESXi 6

We have Gen9 HP with Emulex 10 GB (driver v10.5.121.7) runs the last 6.0 ESXi and high latency experience above 50ms to 1.5 seconds with LDAP queries between continuous Windows or VM to DC.   However, to move the domain controller to an ESXi 5.5/6.0 with the latency of the network 1 Gb is down to below 50ms.  If you ping just two servers, ping response is < 1ms.

Anyone else having this problem? It seems to happen with ESXi 6.0 with 10 GB Networki.   ESXi 5,5 of 10 GB seems to work very well.

    > 50ms up to 1.8 seconds at the time of the request

ESXi6 DC VM to ESXi DC VM on the same host, 10 Gb DSwitch

ESXi6 DC VM to ESXi DC VMS on different host, 10 Gb DSwitch

    < 50ms

    DC - DC physical physical

    ESXi5.5/6.0 DC ESXi5.5/6.0 DC on 1 GB network VM VM (Ping is < 1ms, copying files is > 100MB / s)

I've checked package drops with esxtop with view network, no packet drops.

I used the following script to the extent that made 10 requests from a user and takes the average time.

    The result is coherent fairy.

  • Storage vMotion possible with ESXi Std Edt or not?

    Hi all

We have two implementations of VMware with ESXi Standard edition licenses installed on the two site. A site has vCenter Server Foundation edition while the other has vCenter Server Standard Edition.

The problem is that the site with vCenter Std and vSphere 5 Std doenst allow storage vMotion (see image below)

    No Storage VMotion.jpg

While, on the other hand, site 5 Stnd vSphere with vCenter Foundation allows storage Vmotion (see image below)

    Storage VMotion.jpg

How is it so that vSphere Stndard this edtion of different characteristics in different places?

I had recorded the call and found the solution... VSphere 5.0 and 5.1 gives really different set of features with the same Std license vSphere.   Take a look at the link for options available with vSphere 5.0 and 51 below.

    1 compare vSphere 5.0 editions

Compare the editions of vSphere VMware for Cloud Computing, server and data center virtualization

    VSphere editions 2 - compare 5.1

Compare VMware vSphere editions: managed Virtualization & amp; Cloud Computing

For a test, I used the same Standard edition server with 5.1 key to it has worked well with Storage vMotion Option available :-)

You must download and install the client on your computer.

You can find in the download section of the website of VMware vSphere.

  • HP DL360 G6 "Noncompliant" with ESXi 5.1

    Hello

I have two DL360 G6 running with ESXi 5.0U1 and I wanted to upgrade to 5.1.

I downloaded die ESXi HP - 5.1.0 - standard-iso and added to the Update Manager, but when I check for an upgrade, I get the error that the servers are "Non-compliant".

The DL360 G6 VMware Compatibility Guide must be supported for ESXi 5.1.

Is it possible to know why it is Non-compliant?

If I'm not mistaken, UM produce generally / alert error "Non-compliant" If ONLY your hosts (ESXi 5.0) do not correspond with your intended base line (5.1 ESXi) when you attach it to the guests. However, once you patch the host with this baseline, it should change to consistent.

    'Inconsistent' should be of concern.
