Problem with mail from a Time Machine backup

Hello

After I restored my wife with Time Machine MBP, it tried to start "Mail" and she gets a message:

«Mail must import your messages (etc.)...» »

So when I click on 'continue' it shows a # 52 847 ridiculously high message and he gets up to 981 photos and videos, then she stays there for hours. If I cancel, next time I try, it happens to 980, then next time 979 and so on, leaving fall 1 number every time and it hangs still for hours, until I turn it off.

If I try to restore messaging of the backup, I get a message:

"Mail can not be changed or deleted because it is required by Mac OS x."

So essentially, she cannot open her e-mail software.

What can I do to get the operational e-mail program?

Well, problem solved.

I did a reinstall TM on a backup earlier and got the same result with mail, so I just him to run the import as long as she could.

Problem disappeared.

Thanks in any case

Thank you, that's good ideas! But my problem has proved to be different and much simpler kind of thing I expected and your solution would solve. My Mac not TOTALLY restore backup. Technology on the Apple store recommended re - install the operating system to a new version and then all my software and files from my time machine. If that's what I did. I don't remember that Mavericks does not include Java runtime, and I never realized that some of my Adobe products require it. Download and install Java and now my Adobe products work as expected.

  • Restored HD from a Time Machine backup of my old iMac (stolen) from my new MacBook Pro.  Not all the files have been restored.

My iMac 27 "(2011) so my wife 13 '' MacBook Pro (2011) were recently stolen after our House was robbed.  My wife got a new MacBook Pro and I restored it successfully its data (selected "backup restore Time Machine" during the installation of its new MacBook Pro).  However, I also got a new 15 "MacBook Pro in lieu of the iMac 27".  I have, once again, selected "Restore from Time Machine backup" (selected the iMac as the backup source) when installing my new MacBook Pro.  When it was finally over, I told Time Machine to inherit from the backup.  Unfortunately, none of the files in the My Documents folder or the photos in my photo library have been restored.  Was it a bad idea to try to use the backup of the iMac as a source for the MacBook Pro (both running El Capitan)?

is it possible that your documents are stored on another drive which was not part of the backup plan? or is the HD in the big enough MBP to inherent the old backup.

  • FTP settings can be retrieved from a Time Machine backup?

I had to nuke my Mac and reload the OS, but I did not export the managed sites and FTP of Dreamweaver settings before you do; However, I have a Time Machine backup of the computer before I wiped the drive. Anyone know if I can recover the backup settings and copy them into the new installation? Two copies of the DW are the same and have been installed since the creative cloud. The only difference is the operating system where the old machine has the new El Capitan and Yosemite.

I'm not an expert by any stretch of the imagination, Mac, so a little extra detail on explanations will be very appreciated. Thanks for any help provided.

Yes, they can.  In your time machine backup, you will need to go to the library: Application Support: Adobe: commune: {Version}: Sites.  Just take this file 'Site' Time Machine to restore and you should be good to go.

  • File not found error when opening a virtual machine (from No-Time Machine backup)

    Hello world

I have a problem with my installation of Fusion 2.0.6 on my iMac to Snow Leopard related to a "file not found".  I did my best to analyze the positions of the community to see if anyone has experienced this before.  I found several posts and tried the suggestions in these posts, but I have not been able to solve.

I'm trying to restore from a full backup of my XP VM. It's not a backup Time Machine; just a straight backup of VM together using SuperDuper (part of my nightly backup routine).  To restore, I copied:

    -> BACKUP/users/John/Documents/Virtual Machines/Windows XP Home Edition.vmwarevm

    for -> MacHD/users/John/Documents/Virtual Machines/Windows XP Home Edition.vmwarevm

Merge, I opened the Windows XP Home Edition VM, only to get the error:

«File not found: Windows XP Home Edition-000005 - s001.vmdk.» This file is required to power on this virtual machine.  If this file has been moved, please provide its new location. »

I find the file hard (what is there) and get the same error message several times.

Interestingly, when I try to open the same VM from the backup location, I also get the same error.

Really stuck now and don't know what to do.  Any help that can be provided would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

    John

It seems that the latest files are missing. The virtual disk which I guess has a size 5-6 GB provisioned consists of 3 files, of which 2 are missing for snapshot 000005 (Windows XP Home Edition-000005 - s002.vmdk and Windows XP Home Edition-000005 - s003.vmdk). Unless you have some backup, your options are limited and you will need to go back to the last instant whis is dated March 2012.

Windows XP Home Edition - 000005.vmdk descriptor file (text file) will show the files that make up the virtual disk (the Flash disk in this case).

  • The merger with Time Machine backups

I fear I know the answer to that, but would like confirmation.

I am running Fusion 2.0.4 and have Mac OS 10.5.6.

As part of support to replace a faulty card from the airport on my MBP, Apple did a new install of the OS and erased my disk. When I started the laptop I told it to restore from a Time Machine backup. He restored all the files under the My Documents folder, except for my virtual machines. He has even restored a text file I had in the 'Virtual Machines' folder, but not the virtual machines themselves. Looking back through the external drive for Time Machine, I don't see the virtual machines to any previous backup.

I guess I'm watered at this point, although I'm hoping the actual VMs are located elsewhere, and under 'Virtual Machines' files are just links. Does anyone have an idea what I can try, or why the virtual machines are not saved?

    Thank you.

    Jeff

If your virtual machines were in the "Virtual Machines" folder, where they are. Although it is possible to create a configuration where this isn't quite the case (for example, the link hard to another directory or volume), the simplest and explanation of the default value is that your virtual machines were either not stored (in this case I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news) or in the first place never were in this folder (you can check your drive to backup files/folders - virtual machines tend to be big so should stand out).

As to why it is, Time Machine in the first versions of Leopard would cause a deadlock (and hang the Mac) in certain circumstances, one of them was a virtual machine. To work around this problem, Fusion told Time Machine to exclude virtual machines. Apple has fixed the bug of Time Machine and deleted merge the exclusion of Time Machine, but it is possible to get into situations where virtual machines are still excluded.

In general, we do not recommend the use of Time Machine to back up virtual machines - the short version is that it will go quickly through space and that it still does not produce a viable backup. Instead, we recommend that you back up files in the comments (or their mirror to the host and let Time Machine pick them up there), or manually back up virtual machines when they are not running.

  • error - 36 on Time Machine backup

Help! I went on vacation for a week of my iMac running that yosemite was working fine when I left him. I left it turned on on my back, he had frozen, and disk utility showed that the player needed repair but it was irreparable. So I started from a system disk and deleted from my drive, hoping to restore from my Time Machine backup which was connected all the time. (I also have a Clone of Carbon Copy backup). But the Time machine backup restores, showing me "error-36". I'm quite familiar with the operations of Terminal "dot_clean", but when I try it tells me that the command is unknown. And, of course, the problem is with the Time Machine backup, not with my hard drive. is it possible to repair the Time Machine backup in my situation? I can't restore my backup CCC because my iMac can't see, had no installed system. I'm about to try to completely install the original Snow Leopard system from the boot disk and then either try to restore from time Machine, or migrate it again.

    Can anyone offer advice please?

  • Wireless shared time Machine backup with Airport Express?

    Hi all

I looked around lately for a solution to this issue and who struggle to get by.

I'm a musician, and at home, I have an iMac that I work on. Everything is there, basically. I have a Time Machine backup to an external drive.

I also have my old MacBook that I use to play concerts. I have what I need for it there: especially Max/MSP patches, odd live recording and a few samples. I don't have a backup of it right now. Max patches are the only files not on my iMac.

So far, all the files I need for two computers, I have sync with DropBox and OneDrive. I'm getting a little tired of copy things more, re-upload, forgetting where something is and having things scattered everywhere. Ideally I'd like a shared folder of a certain type that is always up-to-date on both computers. This folder will contain Max patches, live recordings and the weird thing I do away from home.

I would also be able to save more flexible:

    • the iMac backup
    • Backup of MacBook Pro
    • Shared folder backup

I've been looking around a bit and I'm not sure how best to do so. A kind of home server would be an option? I have not used one drop/airport/Time Capsule of Apple stuff before, so I'm not sure how they differ from each other.

I like Time Machine, because I can't think to save things. If I could have three backups separated like the ones I mentioned (for the security and because my brain can deal with it better if it is presented that way), that upward with Time Machine or something similar, to some central place automatically.

I looked at the airport in Time Capsule and it looks great, but I can't afford it right now. I also saw contradictory information on AirPort Express can be plugged into an external drive for backup, so if Time Machine can be used with wireless at all.

I hope that what I am asking is logical. I would like the simplest solution to back up two computers and have a shared location for the common files needed on both.

    Thank you!

    Phil.

An option here would be to get a device connected to the network (SIN). This unit can store all the required files and be accessible to one of your computers on your home network. A number of these devices is also available remotely, when necessary. Here is an example.

I would also be able to save more flexible:

    • the iMac backup
    • Backup of MacBook Pro
    • Shared folder backup

To the extent not "have to think about backup things', Time Machine (TM) would be a solution that is easily available to you now. It would create separate for each Mac backups. In addition to using an external hard drive as you do now, other TM backup destinations could be:

    • A time Capsule
    • A 802.11ac AirPort Extreme with a connected USB hard drive. In this configuration, Apple calls the drive and the drive from the airport.
    • A NAS

In the last item in the list, you see that a NAS could offer solutions for each of your goals. However, if you are on a tight budget, likely the most expensive company to undertake, as the physical drive of NAS enclosure can run around $400-600 only, without any installed readers. This is where the time Capsule can work out cheaper for you.
