Problems MCE Remote in Media Center of Windows 8

It seems as if the remote MCE (standard transceiver eHome Infrared driver) is not fully functional in Windows 8 Media Center.  Just some buttons do not appear to be handled by the operating system.  The buttons Stop, back, SkipForward, and SkipBackward do absolutely not work.  Arrows, Ok, Play Pause, etc. buttons don't seem to work.  I'm having one hard time with a few others, but I confess that I have a complete list of what works and what does not.  I know at least someone else having this problem.

The MCE remote to have the same functionality in Windows 7 MC as in Windows 8 MC?  If so, I think that maybe it's a bug.

Thank you
John

Hi Suki69,

try to uninstall the drivers and reinstall them. That's all I can think about.

see you soon

There is no such thing as a download of MCE to XP Pro or home.

You may be able to find an upgrade, if you search the Web.

Operating system upgrades are not a good way to go, always better to have the full version.

Since MCE is an older version, you can find now a lot cheaper than it used to be.

    Hello texanbelle,

Thank you for using the Microsoft answers Forum.

I am including instructions below a scan to help repair the system files related to some components of Windows, including Windows Media Center, and Windows Media Player.

Repair Windows Vista Media Center files

You can use the following steps to repair files that are part of Windows Vista Media Center:

    1. click on the Start menu, choose all programs, then Accessories, then right-click on the item to the command prompt and select run as administrator

    2. click on continue to allow it to open a prompt with administrator privileges

    3. run this command in the cmd prompt: sfc/scannow

    4. the cmd prompt should list text stating "start system analysis. This process will take time. »

    5. wait for the scan to complete (this may take several minutes, so be patient).  This command will scan all protected system files and attempt to replace the incorrect versions by appropriate Microsoft versions

    6. once the analysis is complete, the SFC tool will indicate whether or not it found no problems and whether or not he was able to correct

    7. If any errors are reported that SFC could not resolve, there are steps in this knowledge base article which explain how to locate and attempt to correct errors

    8. after fixing errors that are found, try to use Windows Vista Media Center again.

Fix Windows Vista Media Center registry entries

Unfortunately, there is no easy way to fix key/registry values that are installed by Windows Vista, as there are files.  If you want to try to repair the registry values/keys that are part of Windows Vista Media Center, you will need to re-run the installer of Windows Vista operating system and repair the operating system.

Try this and tell us if it helps with your question.

  • my media center to windows took over my computer

I accidentally downloaded the wrong thing and now I can not get windows media center to stop it took on my desktop all

From what you have stated above, I think that the file association for LNK files has been given misdirection to the Media Center. I've seen this happen when opening a program via a shortcut (for example. LNK file), you are asked what type of program to open it with. After selecting the Windows Media Center (or another program) via the Select a program from a list of programs installedand check always use the selected program to open this type of file (circled in red below), the document or program referenced by the shortcut of origin opens in Windows Media Center as it should.

The problem is that now all shortcuts (for example. LNK files) on the desktop or in the browser will want to be opened by Windows Media Center and Windows Media Center icon to view the shortcut no matter what shortcut was originally intentioned to open. This is known as a file association and the default icon. The same condition can occur if you have performed these actions 'Open with' on one. JPG or even a. EXE, but the. LNK explanation is much more likely for the items on the desktop.

The good news is that a small free utility was written to cancel the. LNK file association was created. There is also a registry hack to achieve, but I recommend the utility unAssoc for its ease of use. I used to send people on another site to download this utility, but this site has become confused with all the ads and fake download links. I put a copy on by SkyDrive own here.

Just download, then use the utility to unassociate the. LNK files for the user or globally delete the file type and let windows rebuild a new default.

2 How long have you had this problem?

It is not possible to permanently remove the Media Center, however, you can turn it off and allow him to return every time as needed.

Follow the steps below to reinstall the Media center:

    a. open the control panel in the start menu.

    b. open programs and features in Control Panel.

    (c) Note: If the programs and features are not available, change the view to large icons at the top right of the control panel.

    d. Select Turn Windows features on or off in the left column of the window programs and features.

    e. uncheck Windows Media Center, and then click OK.

    f. click on restart now to restart the computer.

    g. re-enable Media center of the control panel again.

    h. try running Media center.

  • Cannot play movies/recorded shows in Windows Media Center on Windows 7

Three years ago I bought a Sony laptop with Vista and an external tuner ATI so that with a CableCARD, I could use Windows Media Center to record shows/movies. I recently bought a new PC with Windows 7 and found that the Windows 7 PC cannot read the 500 films/shows that have been saved and the new Windows 7 recorded shows can be played by the Vista laptop. Is any way to convert or run natively these shows that have been saved under the WMC?

    Hi RalphGreenlee,

Thanks for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

If I understand correctly, you are unable to play back movies recorded in windows media center.

Looks like the file cannot not supported by Media Center or you need a codec to right.
What type of video file format?
Also check the videos if there are other formats to the choice other than the one you have now.

    Method 1:
    Step 1:
Indicate the file types supported by Windows Media Center:
Types of files supported by Windows Media Center:
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/file-types-supported-by-Windows-Media-Center
    Step 2:
Try using a good set of codecs and then try to burn video files.

  • How can I reinstall Windows Media Center in Windows 8 again after its removal via Add/remove features?

System - Windows 8 with Windows Media center feature added.
NB - no usable restore points are available.
The link which initially allowed me to install WMC in Windows 8 is no longer available for use.

Unfortunately, this is between the owners of content/broadcasters and

No doubt about it. Knowing how strong the support of Media Center is between the testers of the preliminary version, we still have to do to ensure quality and compatibility with supplements is what you expect still in pre-release (as for any version of Windows, compatibility is an important effort, and when we work on the underlying video engine (for example, make sure that the features that push these areas receive adequate coverage).
