Problems of Windows install.
Windows Installer no longer works, I can not install or uninstall or update anything.
Do you know when this problem started? Try a system restore to a point in timeBEFORE the problem started. Here is the procedure: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/using-windows-vista-system-restore/. Don't forget to check the box to show more than 5 days of restore points. If the first attempt fails, then try an earlier point or two. NOTE: You will need to re - install any software and updates that you have installed between now and the restore point, but you can use Windows Update for updates.
Here is a solution I don't know if this will work in your situation, but it's worth a try, because it seems simple enough:http://devinstall.msiblog.com/2007/12/27/windows-installer-automatic-repair-windows-vista/.
Here is a more complete solution which seems more likely to work (if you have another PC and a network connection, or the flash drive to move a file created:http://www.ehow.com/how_4813669_fix-vista-problems-windows-installer.html.) Because this involves editing the registry, you should first backkup transplant just to be sure. Here's how:http://www.adamsdvds.co.uk/tutorials/vista/regedit/backup.php.
I hope this helps. Please post back and let us know in all cases.
Good luck!

Hello Spankyinc,
Thanks for posting on the Community Forums of Microsoft Vista.
I recommend to create a system manually, Restore Point so that in this case, a problem occurs when performing these steps, you can always perform a system restore.
Try to create a new user profile and try to install Windows update and check if the update works fine.
Create a new user
1. click on start, type Control userpasswords in the start search box, and then click Control userpasswords in the list programs.
2. click on manage another account.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type the password, or click on allow.
3. click on create a new account.
4. in the new account name box, type a name of single-byte characters, click Administrator, and then click on create an account.
5. click on the user account that you created in step 4.
6. click on create a password.
7. in the new password box, type a password, retype the password in the area confirm the new password, type an indication of password in the Type a password hint box, and then click on create password.
Once you have a new user accounts check if you can install updates.

9065 ERROR - PROBLEM WITH WINDOWS INSTALL "INITIALIZE LOGGER IS NOT YET CALLED".
CANNOT INSTALL CA 2010, CONTACTED REP AND THEY SAID IT IS THE SETUP OF WINDOWS. BELARC ADVISOR SAYS I HAVE WINDOWS INSTALL VERSION 4.5.6002.18005. TRIED THE ROAD AUTO, "MICROSOFT FIX IT" FOR AN ERROR 1606 AND IT HAS BEEN IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND MY PRODUCT ID. CANNOT TYPE IN THE PRODUCT ID EITHER. WHICH LED ME TO DISCUSS WITH YOU NICE PEOPLE. ANY INPUT WOULD BE APPRECIATED
Here are the instructions to correct the Error 1606 (that occurs quite frequently as I see here often). It affects Windows Installer before repair.
This problem (Error 1606) occurs because there is incorrect entries in the Shell folder of the user who is logged on to Microsoft Windows. When Windows Installer goes to the sale of Shell folder of the user who is logged on to the computer, Windows Installer cannot locate the correct entry. The solution is in http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/886549.
The steps to correct this problem involve editing the Windows registry. Change the settings of the REGISTRY can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from starting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the REGISTRY settings configuration can be solved. Changes to these settings are at your own risk. I suggest that you first back up your registry as follows: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Back-up-the-registry.
Here are the steps to fix it.
1. click on start, run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.
2. look for the following registry key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell dossiers\
3 remove the entries that show the path that is listed in the error message.
886549 KB http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/886549: Regedit open again. In the left pane, click User Shell Folders, point to new, click expandable string value, type the value name that you want to restore (AppData) and then press ENTER. Right click on this value, click change, type the value in the value data for the value name box, and then click OK. The value data must be: % USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming.
Step 8 KB 886549 suggests that you also check the values in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders. However, by fixing my problem, I had not to change values in the registry key. If this does not work, follow ALL the steps in the referenced article.

You say that you have no protection against viruses on the machine you. It's not good and I suggest STRONGLY that fix you this. Malware can do all kinds of damage to your system which it crashing to the point where the only option is a clean re-installation or even to delete your important files or using your system to send extend to everyone in your contact list who they wouldn't appreciate (and other things as well - but you get the point) and you don't want that. The good thing is that the best answer is FREE! Try Microsoft System Essentials at the: http://www.softpedia.com/progDownload/Microsoft-Security-Essentials-Download-131683.html or Avast at: http://www.avast.com/index. Do not run both at the same time (which can cause all sorts of conflicts and problems) - choose one and give it a try. I use MSE myself and I've never been successfully infected (even if I only used it for a little while - I used Pandasoft before that, but there is no reason to pay for what you can get for free). Once you have your Installer is working again, I suggest that the first thing we do is to download MSE and install it and set it to run automatically in the background and update automatically and check your emails as files and downloaded and existing.
I hope this helps.

Re: Problem with Windows install
Hello
I am runing Windows Vista SP1 on a Toshiba Equium PSAE8E. Unfortunately the Windows Installer Service is a work stoppage. It is impossible to install certain software (Error 1719) and some windows updates.
We know how to fix it this problem?
Best wishes
RamonAnd what is done to you certain software? If you have problems to install it talk with some company and ask for help. They should have enough experience with own products.

I rebuilt a laptop from scratch using XP Home. Currently, no software beyond basic MS core apps. Not even MS Office. I am trying to activate the automatic updates.
The error messages that I get point to Windows Installer and/or MS Download Manager, but these same problems prevent me from deleting/updating install or Download Manager.
If I run FixIt to activate the automatic updates to download SP3, the following error message is returned:
_Windows Installer_
The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed.
This can occur if Windows Installer is not correctly
installed. Contact your support team.If I try to manually download the SP3 (WindowsXP-KB936929-SP3 - x 86 - ENU.exe), the following error is returned:
_Microsoft download Manager_
There was a problem opennig the Microsoft Download Manager.
Update your computer with Windows Service Pack 2 or later version to download
files using the Microsoft Download Manager.I think I'll through in circles. I need SP3 for automatic updates, but impossible to install SP3 since SP3 is not installed. I must be missing something obvious, but I simply cannot get by. I'd appreciate any help - thanks.
OK, I followed the link clicked on download, saved on my desktop, then tried to start the installation. The returned message is:
It is often the result of a corrupted download. Please restart the download. If this fails, you can try download with another browser such as Firefox or Chrome?
Another possibility is malware that you have scanned with your preferred 'egi' software?
Other free malware scanners...

Problems of Windows install, Itunes, XP, SP3
When I try to install Itunes, I get the message that there is a problem with the windows package install. A program required for this install to complete could not be run. Usually, when I click OK, it will be just to restore the installation & a few minutes later, it will install. Tonight he just told me that Itunes has encountered a problem and could not be installed. I tried many times. I disabled my firewall and antivirus protection (N360). Same result. Under XP, SP3. I also used to get the message across with SP2. My music is 'Skip' while reading, because I'm under the old version of Itunes. Help, please.
Here are the usual directions to perform a "clean installation" of iTunes, based on Support of Apple HT1926 article.
Go to control panel > Add/Remove programs
Remove these applications:
1 Apple Software Update
2. Apple Mobile Device Support
3 Hello
4 iPod for Windows (this may or may not exist, be it, it is not necessary, then we can remove it)
5 iTunes
6 QuickTimeOpen my computer > C: > Program Files
Delete this files (if present)
1 iPod
2 iTunes
3 QuickTimeEmpty your temp directory:
Open my computer > C: > Documents & Settings > username > Local Settings and delete the contents of the folder called "Temp".If you don't see the local settings, enable hidden files:
Tools > Folder Options > view tab
Select Show Hidden Files & folder, and then click OKOnce this file is empty, restart the computer
[See note above about the cleanup utility]
Download & install the Windows Installer Cleanup utility:
http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/290301/
Launch the utility: start > programs > Windows Installer Clean Up
Select one of the applications mentioned above and click on removeRestart the computer
Download & reinstall iTunes from here: http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/Kind regards

someone had problems with Windows install on vista, it seems to have disappeared
I seem to not be able to install or uninstall programs because windows installer is no longer available, can help you
Hello
If the Windows Installer service is missing, I suggest you perform the following steps to rebuild the windows service install.
Note: To do: Important This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you proceed with caution. For added protection, back up the registry before you edit it. Then you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click on the number below to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

Problems with Windows install for Win 7
Is there any help out there for Windows Installer for Windows 7?
Mine has stopped working and I can't make it work (I watched some of the fixes recommended by various websites, but they do not seem to work for me). This problem prevents me from installing programs on my PC - Adobe, for example.
I run 32-bit Home Premium version of Winodws 7.
If I can't get the installer works, does anyone know a link to allow me to download and reinstall (I can't find it either!)
Thank you very much!
Ash
