Procedure upgrade switch Cisco 6509-E Firmware

Hello

I am eager to deploy QoS on our 6509-E switches. They are running firmware 12.2 (33) SXH and have not been restarted in 7 years. Due to their function in the company, I would rather not restart them where they do not return. The 6509 has two Additional modules are installed. Firmware SXH 12.2 (33) does not display the 'auto qos' command, which makes me wonder how QoS features will have this 7 years old firmware version.

Can I use firmware version 12.2 (33) SXH to implement QoS on the 6500 switch? Maybe I could get the qos "auto" macro that is included in the firmware later releases and run it manually? It is possible to update the firmware without having to reboot the switch uses two modules SUP?

Thank you

It is possible to update the firmware without having to reboot the switch uses two modules SUP?

  • Switch Cisco Nexus 6004 removes more than 300 bytes IP packets

    Hi all

We have a circuit of wave level 3 10 G running between two switches Cisco Nexus 6004. The circuit came online between our two data centers (in the same city) without problem.

When attempting to ping to the remote-end 10G interface, it works very well with packets of 64 bytes. CDP is enabled and that we see the CDP information remote switch. However, if we increase the size of the ping to more than 300 bytes packets, we lose 1 in every 20.

We settings MTU verifed, type of cable of 10G and duplex settings.

Level 3A tested clean and we will move forward with more testing.

Any ideas on the problem? We feel the carrier out and end to test with their testers. But so far, the circuit's own test. I was not sure if it is something related to Cisco. I am at a loss at the moment.

    Thank you.

    Hi Mike,.

There is nothing wrong with your switches or circuit.  NEXUS devices have a default COPP on the control plan that limit the size and the amount of traffic that must be the CPU process.

  • Problem with switch Cisco SG300

    Hi guys,.

I have a problem with switch Cisco SG300-20. After the failure of the switch boots in a kind of mode. It requires

MAC address and serial number to be entered manually for the device. I tried to find information on this mode, but without success.

My question is: what is this mode and how to make the start switch in this mode?

How can I turn on the switch in this mode on purpose if it happens again and I enter the wrong information by accident.

    Thank you

Hi Aegx, this is a rare case where the switch basically forget his identity. Although the switch is recoverable, it is recommended the switch RMA.

If you are certain that you have neither taken under warranty, all the information that is asked is on the bottom of the switch sticker. If the thumbnail is is not present you wouldn't able to do this is correct.

In addition, if you make a typographical error, the switch will have undesirable failures that are permanent, such as the inability to update software.

  • LGS308 Port Trunking Switch Cisco 3650

I have a Cisco 3650 switch I need to connect my Linksys LGS308 again. I have the port trunking install everything on the side of Cisco, however, I'm not very familiar with trunking on the side of Linksys. What should the configuration looks like on the side of Linksys? Currently, I installed port no. 1 port trunking, and all VLAN belong them to this port. Once I have save the configuration, I can access is no longer the switch. Any ideas?

The series of LGS Linksys has the same methodology VLAN that Cisco switches series SG.

Which means a Port marked as port VLAN Trunk will be no marked member (PVID) of a single VLAN and can have several VLAN Tag assigned.

    Example:

Cisco 3650: Port 1 set as a VLAN Trunk; PVID = 1 and tag VLAN 2,3,4

    LGS308: Port 1 set as a VLAN Trunk; PVID = 1 and tag VLAN 2,3,4; Management VLAN = 1,

    Hello!

I'm trying to set up a VLAN in my baskets. I have some knowledge about VLANs, but I still can not configure in my path.

    My situation:

I have PC that contains two virtual machines, which works as a router between three networks: LAN, WAN, LAN2. It's a bit complicated, but I'll try to draw:

                                                     |-------------||----------------------------|                   |           e1|-to-eth1-VM2-----WAN|VirtualMachine 1        eth0|---trunk-VLAN1&2---|g1         e2|-to-eth0-VM2-----LAN2|eth0=VLAN1 eth1=VLAN2       |                   |           e3|-to-eth0-VM2-----LAN2 etc.|                         PC |                   |   SWITCH  e4||VirtualMachine 2            |                   |           e5|-to-eth1-VM1---wire-to-LAN2|eth0=VLAN3 eth1=VLAN4   eth1|---trunk-VLAN3&4---|g2         e6|-to-eth0-VM1-----LAN1|----------------------------|                   |           e7|-to-eth0-VM1-----LAN1 etc.                                                 |-------------|

gX = Gigabit portseX = 100Mbit portsVMX = Virtual machine numberwire-to = patch-cord connection between ports on the switch

Schema of routing and logical visibility:

    LAN1---VM1-----VM2---WAN |LAN2----------|

Important note is that LAN1 and LAN2 must be separated (visible only through routers). WAN must be visible through VM2 to LAN2 and through by VM1 and VM2 to LAN1. It seems easy, but VLAN that I did on this passage seems doesn't work.

    I do it like this:

Step 1: Management of VLANS / create a VLAN...

Creation of VLANS 1, 2, 3, 4 (numbers meters right now - I have now this number 1 is restricted to the switch).

Step 2: Management of VLAN / Port to VLAN...

Setting up VLAN1 with ports g1, e5 (the two labelled or not identified?-I have not seen any difference)

    Implementation VLAN2 with ports g1, e6, e7, etc...

    Implementation VLAN3 with ports g2, e2, e3, etc...

    Setting up VLAN4 with g2, e1 ports

Step 3: Management of VLAN / Port setting...

Implementation of ports e1 to PVID4 (chassis type = all I guess, but with "capture filter"?)

Setting up port e2 at PVID3

    Setting up port PVID3 e3

    etc...

Setting up port e5 for PVID1

Setting up port e6 at PVID2

Setting up port e7 for PVID2

    etc...

Thus, on this configuration and that the switch it does not work for me

I know that the switch is to see Mac since VLAN which is carried out by PC, because when I arrive in "Admin / dynamic address" I see pimps on the correct ports, with good VLAN ID. So the problem is to transmit a VLAN for their ports, then clear frames of ID and let the packets to go (and return: clear packages, add the VLAN ID and send to their Gigabit ports).

Show the configuration is one of the many I tried :/ but I think this one is the best.

Or maybe I don't know VLAN as I think and this scheme is impossible? Please tell me.

    Hi Experts,

I have some confusion with the button Mode with cisco 2960/3560 switches.

I read on many forums and articles, but where things are not clear.

a place given 3 seconds and somewhere is given 7 or 10 seconds.

    A. password recovery (according to my knowledge 3 sec) good or bad?

Configuration of the switch (start + run) would be safe

After the recovery of password? Yes or no

    B. factory default (according to my knowledge 10 dry) good or bad?

I'm afraid, because if I press mode button more than 3 seconds, then

It will delete any configuration of cisco switch. Yes or no

Qus2) I want to recover the catalyst 2960/3560 switch password without

Please tell me how to do this, what will be the time keeping Mode buttom

  • connection of switches cisco and hp with gbic

I have a new Cisco 2960 x and an existing HP 2910al. I am OK with the set up, I have the hp interface and Cisco all the time with copper but this is the first that I had with fiber. I know that Cisco switch will a Cisco gbic (can move only with service not taken into charge-transmitter/receiver) and HP will want a Gbic hp (new Hp operating system only works with HP Gbic).

Or the cards do not work with this configuration and something as the portfast must be disabled or something else activated?

    Hi Eric,.

The 'reliability' don't lie not.  If the cables are not defective, then it would read as "255/255.  To support my theory, counters have been erased "6d20h" and entry errors are incrementing.

What line card is installed on this slot machine?  We could try to perform a TDR on this port:

    1 command: test the interface cable tdr ;

    2. wait for 61 seconds;

3 command: sh interface cable tdr ; and

    4. after exit # 3.

  • The upgrade to Cisco ACS

    Hello.

I would like to upgrade our current ACS NT Terminalserver edition server to a Win2000 server. Since this upgrade requires a fresh installation (since a direct upgrade from NT 4 TS to w2k is not the best thing to do). My question is, do I have to do to ensure that I can keep my user database active? Is replication the answer? And replication will make a copy of all the different users/groups/routers etc etc. In other words, I'll be able to do this upgrade without too much trouble?

I speak here of a replication of the database, do not configure replication between servers ACS.

Here is the doc that will help you to do this

You can go to 5.1. (5) .. minimum required for this upgrade is 5.0 (1) for users of CLI and IDM. This Service Pack includes the update of the Signature S272. With regard to the IDS/IPS devices, its always preferable to run on the latest versions.

    Kind regards
