process control of a host linux in vFoglight

Hello:
I am currently able to monitor the process for my Windows VMS by following these steps:
VmExplorer open
Expand virtual machines under topology
Click the virtual machine, and then click the process tab
Click the Configuration Wizard to host and run the wizard enter the administrator username and password and you sure
Windows is the chosen operating system and ensure the collection of processes enable for this host is checked. Click Next. Make sure that WMI is checked.
And then you click on finish. In about 15 minutes, I am able to see the processes running on the computer, etc.. I don't need to install a
Foglight agent components.

Now when I try and do the same thing with a linux host, that I'm not always able to see one of the running processes. To the linux host I follow these steps:
VmExplorer open
Expand virtual machines under topology
Click the virtual machine, and then click the process tab
Click the Configuration Wizard to host and run the wizard by entering in the root username and password and you sure
Linux is the chosen operating system and ensure the collection of processes enable for this host is checked. Click Next. Make sure that the
SSH port is set to 22. Click Next. And then you click on finish. After waiting for a long time, nothing never appears. I am able to ssh to this virtual machine
of all over my network.

So, it is possible to monitor the process in a Linux VM (without having to install an agent) as I can monitor a Windows VM?

Thank you.

Mark

SSH enabled for the root user?
If you go on the dashboard of the comment process within the vFoglight console (left under Homes Board) see you alarms in the upper right?
If so, say the alarm?
Can solve you the VM name that is presented in the machine vFoglight vFoglight? If the name is larry.mydomain.com in the vFog console, I need to make sure that I can ping and resolve this computer of the machine vFog.

    Hello

Due to a disk failure, I lost the VCSA control 2 guests. Now I manage the VMs entering each host separately.

The backup did not work, so I want to reinstall VCSA 5.1 again.

I read that the first step is to "unpin" the hosts of the VCSA.

Is there a procedure for this operation? I want to reinstall and take control of the hosts and their virtual machines.

Will this affect virtual machines running settings? new device "reads" the current configuration?

I supported the VCSA configuration, but I think that it is not reliable because this time we made changes directly to the guests.

given that the old vCenter isn't available.

and as you said that you are able to connect directly to the two hosts, so there is no locking mode either. nothing should be done 'Dismantling' part of it.

  • HFM process control

Hi all, I have v.11.1.2.1 HFM

I tried to generate custom through the HFM database reports, but I need some help with a few tables, that I have not been able to find.

While in the process control panel, each time I right-click a phase that the "History of process flow" option appears. If I choose what it a pop window with the historical records of this phase are displayed. I was wondering if it was possible to find that exact or tables so that I can manually build a query.

    Any help?

    Thank you guys

I bet they are ID numbers that correspond to a level of process just as there are for different tasks of HFM identification numbers.

I know that in order for me to come up with the associations of the name and the ID number of the task, I went in fact through ASP pages. For example, when you go to the review task page, there a drop down which shows all types of tasks. Guess what... If you look at the source code of this page, there is a list containing the names and identification numbers.

I'd be willing to bet that you can do the same thing to determine the process ID / name of the associations.

While I'm not a super pro on this product, I stayed in a Holiday Inn Express last night and I hope that this opinion is not send you on another goose hunt.

He takes, but you can if you wish. Pages created in Dreamweaver works on both Linux or Windows servers. I develop in Windows, but use a Linux server for my sites.

The only reason for choosing a Windows instead of Linux server is if you want to create sites that use ASP or ASP.NET. If you want to use PHP, it is best to choose Linux. If you don't want to use any language server side, whatever you choose.

My question is, why are there user processes to access data files? I think that it does not match the process architecture defined by Oracle. And most importantly, it does not mean a security leak in the database?

    Hello

There seems to be some confusion, even in the Oracle documentation, in terms of nomenclature.

Think of it this way. There is the client program that connects to Oracle, such as SQL * Plus, Toad, custom, etc. written application. This program runs on the client. This may or may not be on the database server.

Then there's the Oracle database server process. They run always on the database server. These processes are of two types, the USER and the background.

    You can see:

    SQL> select background,count(*) from v$process group by background;

    B COUNT(*)
    - ----------
              65
    1 37

Here are copies of the file binary oracle attach directly to the SGA and interact with database files. The binary oracle works with several different "personalities" based on the different purposes, he is currently serving. The type of background process, are divided into different specific methods for specific purposes.
    Yet once, observe:

    SQL> select pname from v$process where background = 1;

    PNAME
    -----
    PMON
    VKTM
    GEN0
    DIAG
    DBRM
    PING
    PSP0
    ACMS
    DIA0
    LMON
    LMD0

    PNAME
    -----
    LMS0
    LMS1
    RMS0
    LMHB
    MMAN
    DBW0
    DBW1
    LGWR
    CKPT
    SMON
    RECO

    PNAME
    -----
    RBAL
    ASMB
    MMON
    MMNL
    MARK
    LCK0
    RSMN
    GTX0
    SMCO
    W000

    PNAME
    -----
    QMNC
    Q001
    CJQ0
    Q005

    37 rows selected.

Thus, each background process serves a different purpose. For example. DBW0 concerns only to write data from the buffer cache data files and maintaining all data structures associated with it. Each background process above serves a different purpose, I will not go into all. Generally, the background processes start up time of instance startup, even though some may be started on demand, at a certain time after the start of the proceeding.

Now, consider a dedicated server model. When you connect to the database by using SQL * Plus, for example, you run the binary "sqlplus". Assume that you are connected via SQL * Net. In this case, sqlplus connects to the listener, the listener creates an oracle server process, type 'USER '. This process always runs on the database server. It runs under the user 'oracle', and it provides your real and direct interface to the database. This user can interact with the database and read the database files directly.

Mainly, your server processes the USER will read the data from the cache buffers and, in the case of an absence of cache, will read the data in the data files and loading into the buffer cache. In addition, according to the code path, it can directly read or write to the datafiles, bypassing the buffer cache.

So, the bottom line, all server (USER and BOTTOM) processes, interact with the database and associated files. The code of client program (sqlplus, Toad, etc.) NEVER directly interacts with the database.

    Hope that things cleared up.

AFAIK this remote control is designed for use with Win XP and MCE (media center edition).
I think you will not be able to use under Linux, but this is just my personal opinion.

  • You can create a view that filters (ESX host) Linux machines on the view of the Infrastructure?

    Hello

We have recently implemented Foglight and VMware plugin. As part of the VMware plugin, Foglight pulls in all the Linux VM machines including the ESX host. Our team of Linux only manages the running redhat Linux hosts. They fail the ESX VM guest. That said, is there a way to create a view that shows only the hosts running redhat Linux?

For example the view of rail infrastructure below contains 88 Linux machines, but nearly half of them are ESX hosts for our Linux team would not see all these. Is it possible to filter these?

    Any help is appreciated.

    Thank you

    Tony

The easiest way would be to create a personalized, pair it with Infrastructure and then create a dynamic management component.  This will help create you a rule for "All hosts" where you can find just the hosts that are not of the ESX host and run Linux.

    The query would be:

    detail.topologyTypeName! = "VMWESXServer" & os.longName like «% Linux»

  • Oracle DB 11 g 2 controls prerequisites failed - Oracle Linux 6.5

    Hi all

Once again stuck with questions during the installation of 11 GR 2 DB.

    1. Swap size - failed
      Details:
Size of swap - it is a prerequisite to check if sufficient total swap space is available on the system.
Expected value: 7.74 GB (8120228,0 KB)
Real value: 7.7 GB (8077308,0 KB)

      My checks:
      # SH - 4.1 swapon s
Size of the characters in filename used priority
      / dev/DM-1 partition 8077308 0-1
      SH - 4.1 # cat/proc/swaps
Size of the characters in filename used priority
      / dev/DM-1 partition 8077308 0-1
      SH - 4.1 # cat/etc/fstab. grep swap
      / dev/map/vg_vssdbserver-lv_swap swap swap defaults 0 0

I thought that 8 GB of swap space was enough, my system has 8gbRAM.

As a general rule, swap space is usually configured to twice the RAM if you use 8 GB or less and equal to the amount of RAM if you have 16 GB or more. If you have 64 GB of RAM, however, it is useless to have 64 GB of swap space, because the loss of performance so you never need to swap space will be very bad.

However, you probably want to configure your Oracle database to use the kernel Hugepages using EAMA instead of the AMM for optimal performance and efficient use of memory. Hugepages kernel, unlike the POSIX memory shared (/ dev/shm) used by the AMM will be pre-allocate memory to start the system upward and can not use swap space. Don't forget that the swap space is not a substitute for the lack of physical memory (RAM).

On the Oracle database installation, there should be a button to ignore warnings or errors and continue the installation or if you feel more comfortable with it, to meet this control, simply create a temporary swap file to increase your swap space, which later can be removed when you no longer need. It is certainly much easier than to the resize your swap partition.

    For example:

    [root@vm213 ~] # lsb_release d

Description: Oracle Linux Server version 6.5

    [root@vm213 ~] # swapon s

Size of the characters in filename used priority

    / dev/DM-1 partition 2097148 0-1

Create a pagefile of 1 GB in / Home

    [root@vm213 ~] # dd if = \u003d/dev/zero of / home/swapfile bs = 1024 count = 1048576

    1048576 + 0 records in

    1048576 + 0 records out

    1073741824 bytes (1.1 GB) copied, 4.32366 s, 248 MB/s

    [root@vm213 ~] # chmod 600/home/swapfile

    [root@vm213 ~] # ls-l/home/swapfile

    -rw-------. 1 root root 1073741824 28 May 03:07 / home/swapfile

    [root@vm213 ~] # home/mkswap/swapfile

mkswap: / home/swapfile: caution: do not erase the sectors bootbits

all over the disk. Use f to force.

Implementation of version 1 of swapspace, size = 1048572 KiB

    no label, UUID = d26f4d5f-af46-4567-b836-0d5d0b1661cb

    [root@vm213 ~] # home/swapon/swapfile

Size of the characters in filename used priority

    / dev/DM-1 partition 2097148 0-1

  • bottom of flashplayer internal update server hosted Linux apache2 - flashinstall.log errors

    Hello everyone,

I've implemented an internal server update for Flash Player as described in the latest guide admin (v16).

The web server that hosts the files of the last fp_background_update.cab is apache2 on SLES11.

I configured a customer (win7sp1, fully patched) with mms.cfg pointing to the Web server. There v14 drive installed, activex and plug-in.

The client using any browser, I can see and download files from the Web server.

But information update does not install the more recent version, flashinstall.log shows that Web server is contacted and that xml files are processed, but it produdes warning and error codes for which I can't find any documentation, so type in the dark here.

When you look at the Web server logs I can see more of behavior:

-Customer pulls the majorversion.xml and the version.xml for new version (v16) - OK

-The client tries to pull a patch.xml, which does not exist in the fp_background_update.cab. -STRANGE

-Customer pulls the patch.xml (that I've provided manually by downloading it via wget for webserver) - OK

-The client tries to shoot whatever it is and causes webserver error 400, which means generally bad customer demand - BAD

    Lars salvation,

According to your server logs files, only the XML file is retrieved.  The server logs have nothing for the Setup file itself, which is what the mistakes are referring to.

1214 error means that the Setup log file failed to download.  The number of 12152 beside him is a Microsoft error code, which is:

    ERROR_HTTP_INVALID_SERVER_RESPONSE

The response from the server could not be parsed.

Error 1234 means the Update ActiveX failed.  Updates from bottom tent always first Update ActiveX (if installed).  Given that the Setup file can't download, the update is also a failure.

How do you have your server configured?  Please ensure that port 80 is open for HTTP requests (for the Installer).  Since your getting the XML file, it seems that you already have open port 443 for HTTPS requests.

  • How to find the IP address of the virtual machines from the host Linux

    Hello

Y at - it a tool that can resolve the IP address of the linux host running VMS, when using NAT and DHCP networking?

I can find by logging on virtual machines, but I need to retrieve automatically these addresses for the host scripts will not have to be changed manually when IPs change.

    Thank you

    Host: Ubuntu 8.10 64 bit, WS6.5

Probably the easiest solution is to use static IP addresses... Having said that, what I meant was:

Each machine (real and virtual) has a unique MAC address. If I create a file (database type) with the name and the MAC address of each virtual machine, then I could use nmap or arp commands to get the IP address. For example, I create a table and put it in a file like this:

    VMName1 00:14:BF:19:45:61

    VMName2 00:0E:5 C: 1 has: 44:1E

Name of the machine 3. etc.

Then I could run a combination of arp and/or nmap to find the MAC address of active machines and their respective IP addresses. For example, running:

    sudo nmap - sP 10.0.2.0/24

This gives on my local network:

    Starting Nmap 4.76 ( http://nmap.org ) at 2009-08-14 18:09 EDT

Host 10.0.2.1 seems to be upward.

    MAC address: 00:14:BF:19:45:61 (Cisco-Linksys)

Host 10.0.2.99 appears to be upward.

    MAC address: 00:10:83:BB:08:99 (Hewlett-Packard Company)

Host 10.0.2.130 appears to be upward.

    MAC address: 00:0E:5 C: 1 has: 44:1E (Motorola BCS)

Host 10.0.2.134 appears to be upward.

Nmap done: 256 IPS (4 hosts upward) scanned at 3.71 seconds

So, now, I know that the machine VMName1 with MAC 00:14:BF:19:45:61 has IP 10.0.2.1 and is it my Linksys router.

    Just a thought.

  • How to change the network card eth0 eth1 on host (Linux Debian 5 "lenny") til

    Hello

I just installed the server VMWare 2.0.1 for Linux 64 - bit version on my Linux Debian 5 "Lenny".

The host is also my firewall and unfortunately I was a bit quick in accepting the default settings, and this is why I agreed for the network card eth0.

I just installed my first virtual Ubuntu 8.10, but I can't see LAN, the virtual server is hung on the WAN card op.

    How can I change this?

Just re-run the script vmware - config.pl who will take you through the network configuration again. Note to all virtual machines powered off.

  • Citing long lived process control folder?

    Hello

I have to build a long term process that begins when the xml data are filed in a folder.

Once the XML is received, it must be entered in the form and assigned as a task of process management.

Long-term process should be defined with an endpoint Manager task, but using looked the file to invoke the process it's a control folder...

How can I set such a process?

    Thank you, Yan

    Hi Yan,

in fact, the process has no need to have a task manager endpoint. Task Manager endpoint is used only if you want users to start the process from the workspace.

For your process, use a control folder end point. In the process, the first step is surgery Assing task that uses the xml data you deposited in the watched folder (assuming that the xml is in the correct structure for the form you are using).
