Hi, I'm about to upgrade processor. Running Windows XP Home, will it take new drivers and are there any changes to the OS, I need to know.

The mobo is a GA - 7R GIBABYTE, I hope, last update of the bios. CPU is an AMD ATHLON 2100XP, changing to an AMD ATHLON 2600XP. Gigabyte has confirmed this processor is compatible with the motherboard.
It's an old system (10 years) but works perfectly well in our modern world.

  • Question about processor and Windows. need to answer accrdingly to discription below. ?

I use windows xp. on cpu 2.4, 1 gb ram and 256 of the hard drive. and I am aware of two pins in my processor is broken by the heat of combustion. the system still works fine. but the only problem that I face is that it takes 3 x the normal time to copy the data from the drive usb or vice versa...  This is: it is because of the processor broken pins to copy slow. and is there a way to solve via software system say avoid those specifice pins or some how? ?   Hopefully the issue is understandable. answer please...

Pins broken on a processor and things still work, and your concern is slow copy?

What is "thermal burning?  You can expand on how these pins really broken?

There is no software (that I know) to "move" broken material as you describe.  You would be better to spend a little money to find a replacement processor or a replacement processor and motherboard that will accept your current memory, etc. MY HUMBLE OPINION.

Is * only * the cause of your slow copy - questionable.  Save more explanation of what happened to the pins of the processor - I suspect there is other damage suffered by the system, you don't even know of which could cause slow best USB.  Something with the motherboard, possibly.  Specifically the same USB ports.

I mean - you could back up everything, perform a clean installation of the operating system and see if it works better after loading the latest drivers form the manufacturers of hardware components in your machine costs and clean...  Otherwise - shot in the dark so that blindfolded and ignoring obvious cries of "stop, don't shoot."  * smile *.

Side also - comment - if there is something wrong * everything * and you declare it here, the system * not * "are still working fine.  * smile *.

I assume you have Windows 8.0 64-bit and try to install Windows 8.1 64-bit which has high system requirements. Its not known why Microsoft did this for a service pack.

In this case, you must install Windows 8.1 32 bit that does not have high demands. Theres no advantage to 64-bit on this system as there probably 4 GB of RAM or less.

The best way to do it is to install Windows 7 32 bit without a product key using a .iso from Digital River:

Hi Vishal, zig - zag is right with the WPT toolkit, however if you are not experienced with the resolution of the problems, you might want to first try a few simple tools:

    1. use the built in Windows tool "Resource monitor" to check the process/applications that use resources on your system - it shows more detail than the single task manager.

    2. Sysinternals provides a powerful set of tools, the first to try is "Process Explorer": https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653

  • Increase of processors in Windows Server 2008 R2 VM

    Hello

I currently have a Windows Server 2008 R2 VM (Citrix Xenapp server desktop) which currently has 2 assigned CPUs, but I would like to pass this to 4. Y at - it any advantage or disadvantage of assignment 4 processors or increasing to 2 CPU cores? Someone at - it a preference?

The virtual machine is a host that is allowed with a permit from 2012 for 2 Sockets data center. I guess this does not limit the virtual machines to have only 2 CPUs assigned to them and this effect forcing me down the core option? Y at - it traps other any license with giving the VM 4 processor rather than by increasing the carrots?

    Thanks for help.

Although I'm not completely clear on the NUMA nodes. I guess as I have a 6 core (x 2) with hyperthreading processor that if I need the vCPUs per VM is less than or equal to 6 then wide and flat are not really necessary, but it's a security rule to apply.

    As long as

    (a) your biggest VM by vCPU County fits in a single NUMA (number of physical heart) node

    OR

    (b) you do not exceed 8 (read: at least 9) vCPUs for a single virtual machine

Then there is no reason to worry about the planning of NUMA (v).

So the license that applies to the host by CPU sockets is relevant for the host and does not affect the amount of vCPUs I can apply to the virtual machines, it is only affected by what is supported by this operating system.

Yes, in the case of Windows, it's a hard limit by installed server edition. In addition, the operating system has no way of knowing what license assign you logically to physical processors in the host.

  • 4 processors on Windows 7 VM

    Hello

I would put 4 processors on a virtual Windows 7 computer, but the VM is only seen 2 CPUs.  My understanding is that Windows 7 can see an unlimited number of hearts, but he can't see that 2 physical processors.

For this reason, I believe that the Windows 7 VM to view the virtual processors that physical, not as carrots.  For this reason the virtual machine will never see more than 2 CPUs.

Can someone confirm this for me?

    Operating system is Windows Server 2008 standard x 64 SP2 and I use VMware-server - 2.0.1 - 156745

On the Bios, I enabled HyperThreading, virtualization technology...

    On "Windows Task Manager - Performance" I see 16 CPU (2 processors * 4 cores * hyperhtreading).

On the VMWare Server 2 documentation, they said this support for VMWare Server 2:

    Standard x 86 or x 86-64-compatible server with up to 16 processors.

Hosts with processors of 32-bit IA - 32 and IA-32 with 64-bit extensions processors are

  • High utilization of the processor and Windows without end research update

I worked with computers for my whole life.  I'm 7 courses away from completing my bachelor's degree in ITM to include coming soon obtaining of Certifications.  This problem, on one of the computers in my own office, cause me endless frustrations as well as the fact that me, unable to find and implement a solution helps me feel completely incompetent.  Me reaching out to everyone here is a terrible blow for I feel on my own knowledge base because it seems as if the fix can be easy, and I feel as if I am missing something obvious.  That being said here is the issue I am running in:

On my Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit, I have no intention of upgrading for various reasons, I notice that my CPU usage and the physical memory usage vary from 60% to almost 100% when I run no applications, which is a more recent symptom and severely hampers my system.  After having reduced the problem of the use to only one of the "svchost.exe" process and the "wuauserv" Service within this process labeled as Windows Update, I confirmed that it was this Service initially at least the question of the use of the CPU by arresting him, I went ahead and ran a manual update of Windows only to find out he's looking for new updates constantly.  The ever green status bar stops moving, or it never gets past that point.  First of all, I advanced and erased the C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution folder, after you stop the Services, than to have the same problem.  I have never received any type of error on the part of Windows Update code he has yet to reach a point of not not looking for updates.  I also have the chance to try to remove some updates recently installed in an effort to clear all possible corrupt files so that they can be reinstalled to no effect.  The same problem persists.  I am confident, it is a problem of Windows Update and also confident, it's a registry problem, but I struggle to trust one of the edition of solutions that I met in my quest for answers to the registry.  Also, I noticed that after having messed around with patches previously indicated, that my Documents Word from Microsoft do not open when I double-click on it, however, I am still able to open Word and open an existing document to the program itself.  This is a very new symptom, and I'm not sure if it's related.  It is my hope that a new installation of Windows won't be necessary.

Please let me know diagnostic programs I might need to run to narrow down the issue.  Thanks in advance for all the help I can get on this.

    Hi Llysanth:

If your initial "check for updates..." Windows Update crashes during long periods without raising an error, this is a widespread problem currently affecting many SP2 of Vista and Win 7 SP1 users.  On my Vista 32 bit system, I see a constant consumption of ~ 50% of my CPU by Windows Update (wuauserv) service which runs under the svchost.exe process (i.e., the saturation full of one of my two hearts) during thecheck for updates...'and Sysinternals Process Explorer shows that the Windows Update Agent (c:\windows\system32\wuaueng.dll) consumes all CPU - to see my images in Kayla77 thread processes in the Manager during updates tasks to day in the VistaForums.

Some users find 'verification of the updates... ' will be held eventually in the end if you let it run for several hours, but there is also a workaround solution posted on the page Web of Dalai to http://wu.krelay.de/en/ that accelerates the Windows Update for the affected users. Of workaround requires users to install the updated Windows kernel mode driver (Win32K.sys) listed on this webpage so one is missing from your system before running Windows Update.  I used Dalai for the latest Patch workaround three Tuesdays (the second Tuesday of each month) and has reduced my search for 'check for updates...' updates available for 6 or 7 hours up to approx. 25 min.

The step by step instructions Posted June 16, 2016 wire m #l's updates works do not, he has been looking for updates to the hours are based on workaround of Dalai and will guide you through the installation process of packages update stand-alone (.msu files) for your updates Win32K.sys missing.

As of today page is Web (August 31, 2016) the current list of updates Win32K.sys on Dalai: KB3078601 (rel. 18 August 2015); KB3109094 (rel. 7 December 2015); KB3145739 (rel. 12 April 2016); KB3164033 (rel. June 14, 2016); KB3168965 (rel. July 12, 2016); KB3177725 (rel. 9 August 2016). Just install updates are missing from your system, so if you have been fully patched at the end of July 2016 you need to manually install the latest KB3177725 (MS16-098: a security update for the Windows Kernel-Mode drivers: 9 August 2016) before you run Windows Update to install your remaining August 2016 Patch Tuesday updates.

Dalai has posted General information that explains why the Windows Update Agent is currently suspended during the "checking for updates..." Windows Update.

    EDIT:

My apologies to Volume Z.  I don't see your post on KB3177725 until I submitted my response.

  • processor host Windows stopped working and was closed

Vista still 'works' but at a snails pace.

    Hi MarkForker,

    1. When you receive the error message?
    2. Did you the latest changes on the computer?
    3. When was the last time it was working fine?

It is possible that some third-party programs installed on the computer is causing the problem.

I suggest that you put the computer in a clean boot state and check.

To help resolve the error and other messages, you can start Windows Vista or Windows 7 by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot". A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

See the link below to learn more about how to clean boot.

How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929135

Reset the computer to start as usual

When you are finished troubleshooting, follow these steps to reset the computer to start as usual:

    (a) click Start, type msconfig in the search box and press ENTER.

    (b) If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password or click on continue.

    (c) under the general tab, click the Normal startup option, and then click OK.

    (d) when you are prompted to restart the computer, click on restart.

So again, you get the error message, then view the event viewer to find out the cause of the error and the message comes back with the details.
