  What is a model supported by your version of Windows? You could just plug it in and see if Windows recognizes
  and they get the drivers off of the internet. Although it is recognized that you should always check the manufacturer's website

  You can see the disk manager in Control Panel.  If there is a hidden D: drive, it will display here.  My guess is the drive letter is not assigned or assigned to the next letter somewhere down the line.   If Vista was preinstalled on your computer, read this information:

  There are several methods to reinstall Vista.

  There is no Windows Vista downloads available from Microsoft.

  You can contact your computer manufacturer and ask them to send you a set of recovery disks.
