Profile Manager: set default browser on managed Mac

Run Server.app on OS X 10.10.5. Things are generally a lot. But there are two elements which, for the life of me, I can't find a .plist to:

  1. Default browser.
  2. Toggle natural scroll.

We use Chrome, often against the guest account, which is annoying to always say the Mac Yes, 'make Chrome my default' over and over again.

And most of my colleagues and students don't like "natural scroll" so I want that it by default.

Google has failed me. Any help is appreciated.

If you use the guest account, you are generating a file on each connection and destroy on every disconnection. Why don't you just customize the template of the user so that it contains the values that you want to push? Otherwise, you generate custom profiles that can be difficult to build.

The default browser setting is stored in:

List of ~/Library/Preferences/com. Apple.LaunchServices/com. Apple.LaunchServices.Secure.p

The syntax of this file is a little funky, I suggest creating the file the way you want and then copy the plist in the model of the user. For example, create an account on a machine. Let's say the account is jeff. You can use this command, once the file is created containing the default browser settings:

sudo cp-r /Users/jeff/Library/Preferences/com.apple.LaunchServices system/library/User\ Template/English.lproj/Library/Preferences/

This copies the entire com.apple.LaunchServices folder in the Preferences of the model folder.

With respect to the direction of travel, it is located in the invisible. GlobalPreferences.plist file. The key is com.apple.swipescrolldirection and you can set this value in the model of the user, allowing all instances of comments to inherit the setting. An example of the command is:

sudo write system/library/User\ Template/English.lproj/Library/Preferences/. GlobalPreferences.plist com.apple.swipescrolldirection - bool FALSE

If I remember, that a value will work for a trackpad and a magic mouse.

I hope this helps.

I made a new profile to use exclusively with an alternate version of Firefox. However, the Profile Manager is only show my new profile. / AppData/Roaming/Mozilla/Firefox/Profiles shows that I have always my fault and my new profile. Put Pei 'default' in the line just target opens the Profile Manager. How to get back to my default profile or if it will appear in the Profile Manager?

When a profile is not displayed in the Profile Manager, then you can register for this profile using Profile Manager to create a new profile.
You can click on the button "Choose a folder" to make Firefox recognizes and uses an already existing profile.

It is best to create a shortcut on the desktop that selects a specific profile (PEI "profile_name") to avoid opening a profile with a bad version of Firefox.

Be sure to select the profile in the browser by default in the Profile Manager, for that is used when you click on a link in an external program.

You can use the - No.-remote command line switch to open another instance of Firefox with its own profile and run multiple instances of Firefox at the same time.

  • Mac Server Profile Manager - settings

I'm on Server 5 on El Capitan and added my devices. I am separated from my carts in class devices. Now, I know that I can go to each group and set restrictions for each group, but I have about 24 groups that need the same restrictions. My question is, is there a way to copy a group that already has a way to download a profile for restrictions Profile Manager or restrictions in place? I'm trying to save time and not set restrictions for each basket of classroom. Thank you in advance.

    Hello!

EDIT: Oh I forgot: you are running PC settings or ProfileManager?

Have you thought about nested groups? Create a group for each unrestricted class and add your users according to your needs.

Then create a new group with the name for example 'world class restrictions', set your restrictions you want to have for all classes here and add your class-groups to this group.

Advantage, if you need a particular restriction to a class, simply set them up directly in class.

    See you soon!

  • Firefox, or the Profile Manager will start. In my task manager, the process uses 50% of my cpu but does nothing. I like browsing with firefox, how do I fix?

I tried to restart my computer, the I tried to uninstall and reinstall uninstall, delete all files of firefox and folders, then reboot and then reinstall. Also, I tried to open the Profile Manager to edit my profile. After you have reinstalled several times and try to open the Profile Manager before launching firef0x, I got the firefox crashed window and the process in the Task Manager always uses 50% of my cpu. The most recent strike and then re - download gives me an error "the file is corrupt" and will not even install the program.

Kill the process that you see, including any plugincontainer.exe, only once firefox has stopped running don't try to update.

Completely unexpected instances of firefox running can sometimes be the result of malware activity.

  • Settings of the proxy in Profile Manager

    Hello

I have a Mac client where already the proxy settings have been entered (including authentication).

Now for this client, I create a custom in OSX Profile Manager setting and push it to that client (push is successful). I also see the profile applied in settings > profile.

But for some reason that the proxy settings are not applied. In the settings > network > and so on the 'old' proxy is always present.

My proxy (with a weird name like blablabla.bla.com) is not, therefore, apply, I would not be able to browse the internet.

How the * does this work?

Is there some good manuals about except "enter proxy here and push it. "Now, little magic and maybe it will work" Apple as 'server administrator manual "?

I want to change the proxy server on all network connections (Ethernet 1/2, Thunderbolt bridge, WiFi,...) on all clients of my Mac without touching the authentication.

    How can I do?

    Thanks for your help!

It does not answer your question, but in general I would say that the best way to get the proxy settings is as follows.

    1. Implement a DHCP 252 option code to set the address of a web server that "serves" a proxy.pac aka. WPAD.dat file
    2. Optionally, define a DNS record for your internal network, this might be a record, but more generally would be a CNAME and would be for wpad.yourdomain.com
    3. Create a proxy.pac aka. WPAD.dat file
    4. Do the proxy.pac aka. WPAD.dat file is available via a web server internal and given 2. above ideally via the address http://wpad.yourdomain.com/wpad.dat

Note: the proxy.pac file contains not only the address of your proxy server, but also rules on websites can bypass the proxy server and sites that can go through the proxy server but bypass authentication.

The foregoing is a network standard called WPAD - discovery automatic Web Proxy which was originally designed by Microsoft and incorporated originally in Internet Explorer. The advantage of this approach is that if you take your laptop out of Office that does not reconfigure not to use your LAN proxy server.

It is found that I got Apple to add support not only to set DHCP option codes in their own DHCP server and thus be able to set the option 252 necessary for this purpose, but also separately I got Apple to add support for OS X to act as a client for WPAD to 'learn' which proxy server to use. Apple calls this "Automatic Proxy Discovery" in their proxies in the network settings tab.

For more information about WPAD, see this article - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_Proxy_Autodiscovery_Protocol

For more information about the current configuration of the leading CAP see - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proxy_auto-config the proxy.pac and wpad.dat files are really exactly the same thing.

Note: The authentication settings are not provided via WPAD. It is possible to not use any authentication at all, or if you do what will happen is that the first time that the user gets asked a dialog box is presented asking the name of user and password and it is then saved in the keychain of connection of users - if your using Safari or other Apple applications. If your using Firefox it stores itself. It is a setting by user to another user, even on the same Mac would ask for their own authentication credentials.

  • How to set the default browser after update 35.0

I've just updated to version 35.0 today. Now, every time I restart my browser that asks me to make Firefox the default browser. I've always said yes and check the box to remember. It does not work. Research help and did what was told to go into Control Panel, then programs and by setting the default value for it. That no longer works. I've never had this problem before. I'm at a loss to know what to do. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

You can check for problems with preferences.

Delete possible user.js and files numbered prefs-# .js and rename (or delete) the file prefs.js to reset all the prefs by default, including the prefs set via user.js and pref which is no longer supported in the current version of Firefox.

You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder currently in use:

  • Firefox does not open and not get Profile Manager.

I'm running Windows 7 Professional. So about two weeks ago, I had suddenly couldn't open Firefox and since then have tried to solve it myself does not. the process of Firefox opens in the Task Manager, however, the browser window does not appear. Trying to open Firefox again, another process opens and the same thing happens. Process just keep opening and that's it. I tried the Profile Manager, but it opens only once and I couldn't so he can reopen. Every once in a while Firefox actually opens when I run it, but when I close it to see if it works once again it does not work. Firefox opens in safe mode with network consecutively without any problem. While he was in safe mode, I ran a full scan of the system with Nortan Antivirus and allowed thirty or threats, but after restart of Firefox will not always open, treated only. I tried to remove the x 86 erased my local path and Mozilla appdata roaming Mozilla, then re installed with 34.0.5. I tried to open Firefox in safe mode, but it will not open at all, only the process again.

It is possible that your security (firewall, antivirus) software blocks or limit Firefox or the process of plugin-container without you inform, possibly after the detection of changes (update) for the Firefox program.

Delete all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container in the permissions list in the firewall and allow your firewall to ask permission to get access full and unrestricted, again to install for Firefox and the plugin-container and the update process.

    See:

Make a check of malware with several malware scanning of programs on the Windows computer.
Please scan with all programs, because each program detects a different malicious program.

Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before scanning.

  • NetInstall vs Profile Manager

    Hello

For years, I am using NetInstall unroll my Mac to my 50ish users. As typical, I created a machine exactly as I want. When I buy a new machine (or decide to reimage an old), I start to restore image, change the name of the account, copy the files, change some applications and settings and done.

I keep reading (and the Apple business team have alluded to) the fact that the Profile Manager is supposed to do something similar, but I am at a loss why I would use rather than what I do. It seems more oriented toward mobile devices and also seems rather complicated to install and manage. Maybe it's me, but it seems to make more sense to implement a customer while I am interested in it if the dock and different options are exactly what I want.

Then, someone actually uses the profile for computers Manager? And what are the benefits on the fair site from scratch and copying users files to a computer newly set up, the way I did?

    Thank you

Profile Manager allows you to set parameters for individual users, for individual computers, user groups, groups of machines, groups of. If you want to change a parameter that takes a few seconds and change is pushed towards the target automagically. You will want to get a copy of Apple Remote Desktop, you can use to install the packages and files.

In comparison, "Re-imaging from scratch" is slow and inflexible.

  • Profile Manager - failed to install the remote access profile in the domain environment & multi-Active Network Directory

    Hi all

I am a COMPUTER administrator for a college and I am trying to fix what seems to be the last hurdle in getting the Profile Manager works correctly.

I worked for a while now trying to get the Profile Manager capable of pushing the device and profiles for Mac in our group network environment. I was able to operate intermittently, but not often. Most of the time I'm unable to install the remote management profile.

When you try to install the remote management profile, I give myself one of the two errors-

    The first error is:

The Installation of the profile failed.

The «TeleManagement (com.apple.config. » profile (Server.FQDN.mdm:GUID) "could not be installed because of an unexpected error < MDMResponseStatus:500 >

(Obviously server.fqdn and GUID are placeholders for their actual values)

    The second mistake is:

The Installation of the profile failed.

Failed to contact the Protocol SCEP server to ""http://server.fqdn: 1640/CEP / "."

The server Mac OS X 10.11.4 works

OS X Server is version 5.1

Client Mac is for most running 10.10.4

Here's a quick run down on the environment and the steps I have already taken to solve the problem.

    • The network is an Active Directory with several networks multi-domain environment. I mainly work with two different networks, each associated with one of the two areas.
    • The Mac server hosting the Profile Manager is a Mac Pro. The two network cards is used, each on one of the two networks. The Mac server is joined to the domain in the primary forest.
    • I opened all the ports and IP ranges for Apple's Push Notification service for two on our firewall and tested networks between the two networks to ensure that the AFN is accessible.
    • I created a static DNS entry for the server in the DNS zone for the main domain. I also have a separate DNS zone for the DNS record for the interface on the secondary network. I also confirmed that Macs see the correct IP address of the Mac server for their network.
    • I tried to change the settings for network access for the Profile Manager. The first error seems to happen when the Profile Manager are restricted to the network the Mac client is not connected. This same error also occurs if I open Manager profile access to "all networks".
    • I have experiemented with the different certificate types. In general, I use the self-signed certificates that are generated automatically. In this scenario, I install the profile Trust first (which works seamlessly regardless of network or domain). I also tried to use a certificate for Code signing signed with our own CA to sign the profile of remote management. The same errors will occur no matter what certificates are used.
    • The second error occurs when the access profile manager is limited to the same network that is connected to the Mac client
    • I ran Wireshark captures on several client computers, as well as on the Mac server interfaces and haven't seen any traffic blocked or rejected that seemed related to the Profile Manager
    • I've deleted and rebuilt my OD master
    • I also scoured newspapers for clues Profile Manager and haven't found much
    • In addition, I have also studied the problem and error codes/etc widely and have not found a lot of useful information
    • I don't know there are any other troubleshooting steps I took as well, but I've been question bout this for awhile and I don't remember everyone.

That's a strange thing - I had it working for Mac on the main network and the domain. However, I discovered that the Mac on the secondary network and the field was unable to download the profile of remote management. This is when I started to change the Profile Manager, access network, which eventually introduce the problem on Macs connected to the primary/field of experimentation network. Change access return settings in Profile Manager does not restore functionality for pimps who worked.

Another thing odd in this test scenario all - Mac on the network high school/area would not install remote profile unless management I temporarily moved it to the main network (I do not untie / reassign to one the main domain on these Macs) I could get the profile of remote management to install and then pushing profiles has worked. Even more strange, it's the Mac that I had to move temporarily secondary network to the main network to allow remote management profile install only works always as long as the Profile Manager are restricted to the secondary network and 'the Mac'. However, Macs in the same room, on the same network in the same field, using the exact image even get the errors described above.

The only thing I have not yet done is delete/reconstruction Profile Manager. I would really like to avoid this if possible. Solutions that involve something like Casper or other software integration AD for Macs are also a non-starter.

I'm happy to elaborate if necessary. I appreciate the help.

Okay, I think I can find the root cause.

Before this discovery, I had completely rebuilt Profile Manager. Now, I managed by pushing the management profile remote for Mac in the two fields/networks. However, many of them still refuse to install remote management profile.

Macs who encounter the problem are all were imaged using NetRestore using an image captured from an another similar iMac. IMac even that was used to build the image has now been reassigned in a test of Mac. I found that when you attempt to register one of the Mac who had received this image it shows already as "registered" when you go to "mydevices" on my Mac server. I also noticed that they all have the serial number of the test Mac when viewing their "register". Among the issues of Macs, I activated the lock of the device from the page "mydevices" for the so-called problematic Mac registered (showing the serial number of the iMac used to create the image) and it locked the iMac used to create the image - not the Mac issue.

This tells me that the CID (or Mac equivalent) is set on the Mac CID used to create the image for all of the Mac said image was deployed to. If it's a Windows box I have a sysprep prior to deployment or could perform a rearm after the fact. I am unaware of how to perform similar functions in OS X.

I tested also since on some Macs that do not have this image, and they are able to register and install the profile of Managing remotely with success.

If anyone has any suggestions on how to reset the CID (the computer ID) under OS X, I'd appreciate it. Thank you.

  • profilemanger 404 not found (Profile Manager)

Today, we finally managed to activate our account VPP! The token in charge and was able to access the Profile Manager Page for a short time, but now do not have access to the Profile Manager page using any browser.

I ran a listening thingy [sudo lsof Pei - n - PICT - sTCP: LISTEN | grep httpd] and its throwing up a couple of odd port 34543 and 34580 when I thought it is recommended to use: 80

I rebooted the server [hardware] and restarted the server [App] and earlier it anyway displays a message saying that the Profile Manager was not yet ready, please try again later, then he returned to the Apache page shown in the image above.

If anyone has had any dealing with this, please let me know as I tried to figure it out for the last 3 hours!

All files appear to be in the right directory:

    /Server/Library/Web/data/sites/default/default.html.en (alias)

    Server.app/Contents/ServerRoot/usr/share/web/locales/en.lproj/profilemanager.htm l

So I guess it's the good ol' ' Open Source ApacheWare which is to blame...
