Profiles and presets

1. What is the specific difference between the 2?  Is a profile purely on color? (as the sliders in the profile pane only relate to adjustments of color).

2. a preset can be applied to the import (for example, I am now under a "sharpening capture" preset upon import, registered for different cases and selected in the import menu).  However, a profile applied by default or not, because I can't find an option for it in the import - then it must be applied manually if I wish?  Or 'Adobe Standard' was applied by default, and I have to live with it as a starting point?

Grateful for any thoughts - this seems to be a little wrinkles that has very little discussion 'out there' on it and now is bugging me, as I was tweaking my import process.

Vision of the world,

The profile is specific to your camera. Adobe has created several profiles for each device supported in Lr.

LR selects automatically the profile for your camera.

Apart from this, you can create your own profile for your camera.

Either you do it right "in the eye", that is, you set the sliders in the camera Calibration Panel. See here for more information: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/lightroom/using/WS939594D8-4279-41b4-B8E9-B06BC919EC7C.html

Or you do - more involved, more expensive, but more precise - when taking pictures of a color checker and profile by building a custom for your camera.

See here (post # 11) how to: http://forums.adobe.com/message/5219619#5219619

But I think you're going way overboard with this.

Unless you regularly take photos where color fidelity is an absolute must in a studio under a controlled light you can just go with the profiles that are already provided in Lr.

A profile of the camera is only generated for maximum two specific colors (light temperature). This means that it is OK for these two temperatures of light. In the photography of everyday we meet light temperature light colors that is evolving. If a profile of the camera is not so useful in real life.

What you can do is this: get a map grey (a piece of cardboard with your neutral gray - available in stores for the right photo) and place it on the first picture you take in a certain place at a certain time. Then in Lr, you take the WB eyedropper and click on the visible registration on your photo.

This will adjust your WB at the same temperature and light color present when you took the picture.

But I tell you one thing: often you will not like what you see when you do this. The photo can always 'not good' air, and you will then adjust the WB manually to your liking.

Don't be obsessed with these technical things. A good photo is not obtained by doing the things scientifically. A good photo is one that expresses your vision of the artist.

  • U2413, Confused about ICC profiles and sRGB/ARGB modes

    Hello

I have a question for the calibrated modes (sRGB/ARGB) of U2413.
-I guess that there's no ICC profiles are delivered with the driver for these because they are focused on the LUT calibrations?
-However, when the driver is installed, it installs the native ICC profile. This profile still apply in the calibrated LUT modes? I guess it shouldn't because it is for native mode only, but is it? Or I'll remove it?

    Thank you.

The sRGB and AdobeRGB modes use hardware for calibration LUT in the monitor. If you use these modes you must set at least the standard sRGB or AdobeRGB ICC profiles in your operating system to correctly define color space, in which you are working.

You could actually make calibrations of LUT of additional software stored in a custom ICC profile, and they would act on top of equipment calibration LUT in the monitor.

The 'DELL U2413, D6500 color profile' native ICC profile defines the color space of the monitor, which is actually a bit larger than AdobeRGB in certain colors. Do not use it if you set the monitor the sRGB or AdobeRGB modes. According to me, the native ICC profile corresponds to the color space used in preset 'Standard' of the monitor, but there is not LUT stored in the ICC profile to calibrate the colors accurately.

All IT gurus out there who know Firefox... have lost the passwords saved when FF created a new profile and delete old files key3.dbf and logins.json profile. Any ideas, anyone?

    So it's not a logins.json file?

I see a signons3.txt file and a file signons.sqlite older, if you can try to see if you can import passwords stored in this file.

You can force Firefox to re-import the passwords in the file signons.sqlite and regenerate the file logins.json with the following steps:

    • reset the signon.importedFromSqlite pref on the topic: config page by default via the context menu
    • Delete the logins.json file in the closed Firefox with Firefox profile folder

When you restart Firefox, then you should have the pref signon.importedFromSqlite with the value set to true.
You have passwords that are imported in the password manager, unless there were errors or signons.sqlite signons3.txt.

You can open the topic: config page via the address bar.
You can accept the warning and click on "I'll be careful" to continue.

Some Firefox problems can be solved by performing a clean reinstall. This means that you remove Firefox program files, and then reinstall Firefox and won't lose bookmarks and history. Please follow these steps:

    1. Download the latest version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org office and save the installer to your computer.
    2. Once the download is complete, close all Firefox Windows (click on quit in the file menu or Firefox).
    3. Remove the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
      • Windows:

        • C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
        • C:\Program Files (x 86) \Mozilla Firefox
      • Mac: Delete Firefox in the Applications folder.
      • Linux: If you have installed Firefox with the distribution-based package manager, you must use the same way to uninstall: see Install Firefox on Linux. If you have downloaded and installed the binary package from the Firefox download page, simply remove the folder firefox in your home directory.
    4. Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
      1. Double-click on the downloaded Setup file and go through the steps in the installation wizard.
      2. Once the wizard is completed, click to open Firefox directly after clicking the Finish button.

Please report back to see if this helped you!

  • How to restore the user profile and the content that I deleted.

    Help!

I deleted a user profile and need to know how to restore.

All emails and documents were stored under this profile.

I thought that information was stored on computer for all to access.

    Yikes!

I did a little research on Google and found this: http://forums.getdata.com/computer-data-recovery/978-how-recover-deleted-xp-home-user-profile.html which has a link for it: http://www.recovermyfiles.com/

The person who used it happily replied that it worked very well. It seems that you would need to purchase the software to perform the restore. Note: I have not used it myself and can not say anything good or bad to this topic

Other things I've read, it seems to do a restore of the system to a previous point is a bad idea and makes recovery more difficult.

  • computer may have been hacked. I have 2 eponymous profiles and one is status = backup

I tried to use the following text:

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/555473

The problem is when I search for the profile I want to copy, there are 2 profiles with the same name. We have the following text:

Size = 24 MB Type = Local status = modified backup = 1/17 (several days ago)

    The other reads as follows:

Size = 4 MB Type = Local status = changed Temp = 1/20 (current date)

When I created a new Admin profile and tried to copy the profile (24 MB) more GREAT in the new Admin profile, I get an error of copy... something to do with the cyclic redundancy check.

While I would not lose the files on my machine, if I have to I will eradicate the disk and reinstall everything... even though I would have preferred to be able to get the largest profile off backup status so I can get it all back.

What is the full error message that you receive?

    (a) you can run a check disk full on your machine.
