program files empty after diversion

My computer has been hijacked, all files were hidden. I think I fixed by passing through all the hidden files and unchecked, but now all my programes say they are empty. How can I get them back when I click on programes. I tried the system restore, but it is not one of a bygone era.

Have you run any cleaning temp file? If you run any cleaners then unhide.exe should bring these programs shortcuts to files.

Run Unhide.exe to remove the flags hidden files and folders.

I wrote an article to EA about this infection which hides files and move desktop shortcuts and shortcuts startmenu of the program in the temp\smtmp folder.

Use MalwareBytes if the infection is still active.

It would be good to know how the system restore has failed.

Any registry cleaner worthy of the name should back up the registry or at least to save the made changes so that you could "undo" them.  Try to run to the top and look for an option "Cancel".

Another possible option would be to create a new user on your system.  When a new user is created, the default desktop items are regenerated and this could be a way to get back them.

Other than that, you may have to re-create your icons to find programs in the folder c:\Program Files\ and recreate the shortcuts on your desktop and start menu.

The register is an essential part of Windows and should not be messed with except if you know enough to back up the registry before you do anything about him, and restore the registry when things go wrong.

  • Problems with the opening of attachments when the user has restristed privilege to run executable code from Program Files and Windows folders.

I'm trying to prevent users from running potentially dangerous files. According to the Windows policies so I put. Users can run any application Program Files, files (x 86), windows, and folder to all users of the program office. Users have no permission to write anything in this files. When the user double clicks for example document.doc on his desk - document opens fine with MS Word. But when the user tries to open this document in attachment directly (by selecting open with MS Word, instead of the economy) - he sees an error - "this action is limited by local politics. Ask your system administrator. "(not exact text).

So I want, users able to open attachments from Thunderbird automatically, but not able to run any application or link, except Program Files, Program Files (x86), Windows and all users' desktop folder. How can I get this result?

    Thanks in advance.
    Calvo is serious.

PS Sorry for my bad English. It is not my mother tongue.

    Thanks for responding.
I discovered what was going on.
This strange "bug" affects multiple computers with Windows 7 Ultimate in my case.
When you create a SRP (software restriction policies) it creates two rules by default to run programs: windows folder and the Program Files folder. I manually add "C:\Program Files (x 86)" in places without restriction. BUT Windows and Program Files folder to default rules directly, but through registry keys. And this part seems difficult. You CAN run the executable files of Program Files. You CAN run the Program Files (x 86) executables. But if Thunderbird or Firefox try to run MS Word or excel or editor for.doc or *.odt opening or another file - downloaded files running programs blocked by SRP.
In order to fix this, simply replace the rules for indirect paths like % HKLM/software/microsoft/windows... etc % with direct, for example "C:/Windows" and "C:/Program Files /". After that, everything works fine. Attachments and downloaded files automatically opens without a problem.

  • After the update to 15.0.1 Firefox open from C:\Program Files (x 86) \Mozilla Firefox\updated\firefox.exe

After the 15.0.1 update this afternoon on a machine 64 - bit Windows 7, I restarted Firefox. Immediately liked began to display warnings that firefox.exe was not a recognized program and needed plugin container, the SVC host access and other things. Weird. So I look in the Comodo and Explorer and it says that the process runs from this path:

    C:\Program Files (x 86) \Mozilla Firefox\updated\firefox.exe

But there is no update file. This happens even when clicking on the firefox.exe file in the Mozilla Firefox folder.

Is this normal? It does not seem right.

Too bad. I restarted the computer and everything seems to be back to normal - firewall and the paths are now correct. Then. anyone having this problem - try to restart the machine. Never had that after a Firefox update before so don't think of him.

You can certainly remove the windows.old folder after you have saved your files of it.

Remove you it through disk cleanup.

How to remove programe files that remain in the registry after I uninstalled these programs?
I uninstalled Nero 8 on my system (Windows Vista Edition home premium, 64-bit dell 1737 studio system); but several Nero files are always stuck in my registry. How can I remove them without destabilizing the system? Thank you.

Yes, Nero is a software that I hate. I liked Nero until 6 version, I think, but after the Version 8 and 9, it was pathetic.

2 years ago I had uninstalled a lot of software and there were many many registry entries obsolete - when a search I found that a member of a forum on the Web recommend CCleaner.

Used from 2 years - each time without making registry backups. He never did wrong with my two PC - Windows XP SP3 and Windows 7 SP1 (previously Windows 7 RTM).

    The registry cleaner is fantastic.

In which case you can try it, here's the download link.

WARNING: Installation be sure to uncheck the installation of Google Chrome options.

CCleaner automatically prompts you to create backups of registry before she cleans up the registry. The choice is totally yours.

I don't know what to do with the ownership of an item.

    In the tutorial...

First step is to add Take Ownership option to your context menu.

Two ASEO is to show you how to use it.

    First step is self-explanatory.
Second step is... right click on the file/folder you want to delete > click appropriate > a black and white screen flashes for a second or two and disappear > now do a right click on the folder/file/new > click on delete.

I hope this helps. For the benefits of others looking for answers, please mark as answer suggestion if it solves your problem.

  • Start in > all programs displays of empty program files

Hi - I hope someone can help me. I searched and found others who have had the same problem but no one has released a fix to work for her.

I got a virus last week that hid all the icons on my desktop and in my Start menu in my C: drive. I deleted the virus and was able to restore my desktop icons, drive C: and Menu master boot successfully, but I still have a problem. When I click on "All programs", my program files appear, but they are all empty. Programs are always installed, but for some reason, they do not appear when I click on the folder in the start menu > all programs. I can't do a restore system - the virus deleted my restore points as well. Is there a way I can rebuild my Start menu without having to do a reinstall full? I tried to create a new user profile, but the problem exists in the new profile as well.

I can run programs if I type in the correct .exe file in the search at the bottom of my Start menu bar (for example, iexplore.exe), but if I just type the name of the program, search does not find it. When I click on start > all programs, it seems normal at first, but if I click on a folder (such as Microsoft Office), it just says: (empty) under the name of the folder.

I am running Windows 7 Home Premium. I checked that there is no virus on my computer by running MalwareBytes and SuperAntiSpyware in safe mode, run the Avira rescue disk.

Folder options are checked to show hidden files and folders, so that's not all.

    Thank you!

If you place the cursor over the menu start all the entry of programs then right click & select open and then again to select open all users, shortcuts appear in the files that open upwards [i.e. just are we discussing their appearance in the menu programs all]?

If the shortcuts are here [I'm just a little hesitant about the meaning of what you have written before], then you might just get away with running the System File Checker.

I always agree with well Dissed - that the virus could hide here all the time since the last attack.  If all goes well, there is a good guide to the procedures for removal of malicious software by SpiritX in How to remove spyware from the computer , it will prevent a determine of this infection.

Good luck with this annoying problem.
