Purchased separately OEM disk can be reused if Windows replaced version

I bought two licenses from a local retailer, one for Windows 7 32 bit Home Premium and one for Windows 7 64 bit Pro upgrade two XP machines.

Unfortunately, I accidentally installed the 32-bit version on the 64-bit computer and enabled him to be activated.  Since then, I've replaced the 32-bit version for a custom of the 64-bit Pro v7 Setup.

Is it still possible for me to use it to update my second computer using the disk for Home Premium v7 purchased?

It was a simple accident, so I don't see why, just use phone activate if you have problems:

How to activate Windows 7 manually (activate by phone)

1) click Start and in the search for box type: slui.exe 4

(2) press the ENTER"" key.

(3) select your "country" in the list.

(4) choose the option "activate phone".

(5) stay on the phone (do not select/press all options) and wait for a person to help you with the activation.

(6) explain your problem clearly to the support person.

  • Can I reuse my Windows 7 product key if I'm throwing away the old PC?

Hi, the story is that several years ago, I'm building a custom PC. And buy an OEM of Windows 7 key online. Installed Windows 7, keys has been accepted and successfully activated. No problem ever since.

These days, computer has aged well. Some components are pretty obsolete, even hard is only 500 GB, which is surprisingly low to me.

I plan to build a new PC instead of the upgrade of it. It will be sold for parts for computers. My question is about my Windows 7 license. Old PC will never be used again, am I able to use the same product key to activate windows on my new PC? I fear that Microsoft may block the button for "multiple use" reason. Is there a formal procedure to deactivate the license to a PC first before activating it on another?

    Thank you

  • My computer crashed and Vista went; It has been pre-installed so I don't have disks; can I install a Windows 7 upgrade?

I can't find my Vista even though when I type "winver" in the start menu, the computer says my I have Vista. Can I just install an upgrade of Windows 7 instead of buy a start-from-scratch OS? Thank you, Michael Higgins

    Hello

There are different methods to reinstall Vista, without purchase you another license...

There is no Windows Vista downloads available from Microsoft.

You can contact your computer manufacturer and ask them to send you a set of recovery disks.

They should do this for a small fee.

To reinstall Vista using their recovery disk/s, you start from the 1st recovery disk they provide and follow the manufacturer's instructions to reinstall:

You need to change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order:

How to change the Boot order in BIOS:

    http://pcsupport.about.com/od/fixtheproblem/SS/bootorderchange.htm

"How to replace Microsoft software or hardware, order service packs and replace product manuals.

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/326246

And if you have never received a recovery disk when you bought your computer, there should be a recovery Partition on the hard drive to reinstall Vista on how you purchased your computer.

The recovery process can be started by pressing a particular combination of the key or keys at startup. (Power on / start)

    Maybe it's F10, F11, Alt + F10, etc., depending on the manufacturer.

Ask them to the proper key sequence.

Some manufacturers have more available Vista recovery disks.

If this happens, you may need to try this instead:

You can also borrow and use a Microsoft Vista DVD, which contains the files for the different editions of Vista (Home Basic, Home Premium, Business and Ultimate) must be installed. The product key on your computer / Laptop box determines what Edition is installed.

Other manufacturers recovery DVDs are should not be used for this purpose.

And you need to know the version of 'bit' for Vista, as 32-bit and 64-bit editions come on different DVDs

Here's how to do a clean install of Vista using a DVD of Vista from Microsoft:

"How to do a clean install and configure with a full Version of Vista '

    http://www.Vistax64.com/tutorials/117366-clean-install-full-version-Vista.html

And once the operating system is installed, go to your computer manufacturer's website and get the latest drivers for your particular model or laptop computer.

And phone Activation may be necessary when you use the above installation method.

  • Can I reuse my key msdnna on the same computer

I was a student at community college where I received the key to Windows xp msdnna. I installed this key and the operating system on my laptop. Now my laptop is very slow. I want to reinstall new Xp on the same laptop computer.

question 1 > can I use my same XP key old msdnna that I had used the same laptop a few years back.

Question 2 > yes f, what happens if I intend to buy a new hard drive for more capacity for my laptop even and then I can install xp with the same old msdnna key?

The MSDN AA key is only for a PC each time. Are based on the license that you got you might be able to reinstall it in another PC, but you must make sure format you it. You could install it in your PC even if you wish. However, I suggest to discuss this with your campus or contact Microsoft Support to make sure that you follow the licensing policy in your country.

If you buy a new hard drive in the same laptop you can always reuse your Windows XP product key.

  • Running Windows 7 Pro 32 bit from an OEM installation. Can I reuse the license key I have to install Windows 7 Pro 64 bit?

We have several computers at work that use 32-bit versions of Windows 7 Professional. We must move to 64-bit in order to use more memory. If I have a Windows 7 Professional 64 bit disc can I install the 64 bit version and reuse install the license key for the 32 bit version. I was told Yes as long it's the oem disc. I don't know what that means exactly. What is an OEM drive and why I he would have if the oem of Windows versions usually installed when the computer is initially being built. Thanks for the help guys!

Yes, you can use the same product key to activate the 64-bit version. You may need to reactivate but by telephone.

It doesn't have to be an OEM drive. As long as it matches the edition you are installing.

You will need to do a clean install, there is no place on the way to upgrade Windows 7 32 bit to 64 bit.

Using the disk of 64-bit Windows 7, install Windows 7 Windows Easy Transfer Utility from the DVD (to find it, simply navigate to x:\support\migwiz, "x:" is the name of your hard drive. (In this case, you will see a collection of files, the important"that you must search for and double-click is 'migsetup'.) run it and create a DAMP (Windows Easy Transfer file), if you have an external hard drive, you can access it later when you perform a clean install of Windows 7 64-bit disk so you can stored there.

Once you have done this, just do a clean install of Windows 7 64 bit disc. In Windows 7 64 bit disk, start Windows Easy Transfer, follow the wizard screen, tap on which is stored the WET file (external hard drive) and it will restore your personal files and settings. Reinstall the applications needed.

  • New machine with OEM in XP and Vista HP disks - can I install both?

I just bought a HP class business that comes with the Vista professional and XP Pro OEM DVD, XP is preinstalled.

What I would do is to dual-boot Vista and XP. This is not possible, my secondary desire would be to partition the machine at least before reinstalling XP Pro so that I can easily upgrade to Windows 7 later.

When I run just the XP Pro DVD (which, for example on the front that it is for use only with the restore disc), it does not recognize my product key. When I use it in conjunction with the restore disc, my entire drive is automatically repartitioned with 1 large partition, and I don't see any option to configure this.

    What process should I use?

    Thank you!

    Thank you for your response.

These instructions worked, the only difference is something with the product key.

When you start the computer with the Vista DVD, there will be a message that the DVD made part of a Kit of HP restore and put the restore DVD to verify the license. Eject you the Vista DVD, put in the support DVD and press to enter. It will check, and then you put the Vista DVD in.

You follow the steps as written until it asks for your product key. Skip step product key (the key written on the side of my case was not accepted). After that, follow the written procedure. Once it's installed, you'll notice that Vista has a valid OEM product key.

  • My gateway crashed, after using my Dell recovery disk, I can't activate my Windows

I can't activate my windows now. Is there something I can do? Just a note: I bought two of these computers and carry the product numbers.

    Gateway who told me:
"I regret to inform you that we are unable to provide a service of this system, given the age of the system and because of the unavailability of parts."

Is there something I can do?

Original title: my gateway crashed, he even out recovery and I lost my recovery disc. I have a Dell and the recovery disc to install windows xp on it.

    Hello

System which comes preinstalled with the operating system are the unique product key and it is recommended that get you in touch with the manufacturer to get the product key or a recovery disc.
    Note:
You would need a gateway disk or a System Builder copy/retail copy and use the product key provided with the computer to turn on.
    Explanation of SLP
Used by equipment manufacturers (OEM), SLP (Locked) preinstallation system uses the information stored in the computer's BIOS to protect each installation from casual copying. No communication by the end customer to Microsoft is necessary. At the start of the system, the operating system compares the computer BIOS to the SLP information. If it matches, no activation is required.
  • Lack of Firewall Service. How to fix without OEM disks?

Have an old HP Pavilion a161 on office w / Win XP Home edition. I got hit by a virus a month ago & had to pay to have the virus deleted.  I've since upgraded to best antivirus / firewall & deleted MS Security Essentials, which turned out not to be so effective.  I've noticed a few problems to make the Firewall works & determined the Firewall Service file is missing (& who knows what other files?).

It was a OEM pre-installed (without disks) & as it is a system older w / low RAM & aging BONES, I'd rather not invest much more of $ in there.  A new PC (perhaps another HP, as it proved to be a very reliable computer) is definitely in the plans, but a purchase will have to wait a few months.  At the time of the original purchase, I paid Best Buy to make restore disks, but that would mean a destructive complete reinstall.  I did several searches on the web & looked on this Forum without a bit of luck; I even considered upgrade to XP Pro, but it's still more money for an aging system & old BONES...

So without OEM disk (s), how to manage a repair to restore the missing files? I'll check to ask 'the Expert Day'.  Thanks for any help!
